The whole side of "photos" on Facebook sucks actually which is why I've never really used it. Limiting albums to 200 photos for instance is lame. My neon set on Flickr has almost 3,000 photos in it. Also a lot of my photos from my Canon 5D M2 are above their 15MB file size limit. I just tried to upload a photo to facebook and it didn't work.

I mean for me to enjoy them and for others to enjoy them. The thumbnails are so super super tiny. It's hard to see what's even in them vs. the big bold photos that you can attach to a FF post or that the large group of thumbnails that come in from a Flickr upload or a Flickr fav-a-thon.

It's a shame FaceBook can't just link to pictures from other sites and then let you tag and sort them (or preserve the sorting from the other site). They already publish Flickr updates to your stream (if you let them) so really it shouldn't be all that hard to create a Photo object that transclusions a remote image, allowing local metadata like tags, likes, comments to be applied. This would be a HUGE feature for me, IMHO.

@Thomas I'd say that they should strive for continual improvement so someone else doesn't come by and steal away their user base (sorta why Google isn't really all that hurt by the daily turn up of new search engines), but I think the sarcasm works better. ;) Also I'm sure FaceBook would want Flickr to pay them for the traffic....

Looks great! Am I just seeing things or is that a standard USB B port at the bottom as well? Useful for just charging with more available cables and other secondary charging sources. Amazing if it enables syncing via that port as well!

@Jamie I believe the port either charges the battery or syncs. There is a button on the case that you hold for a few seconds. After that, the data is passed through.

I held it today at the Apple store in SF. It's extremely light and has a good fit and finish but it does add a noticeable thickness to the phone that I'm not sure I want in my standard front pocket carrying location.

I could NOT use my iPhone without this; otherwise, with all of my "pushing" and surfing and music-ing, my phone did not last past 5PM, and that is no exaggeration. Thus, when I saw this and some positive reviews, it was a no-brainer. Now, I run my phone in the same way I did before but with the brightness cranked to the top, the wireless on at all times and at 5PM I'm usually still at 100% battery. Fantastic product (although I did see some pictures of new, thinner ones out or coming out...)!

Tested the device on the 3GS and it works fine. Actually it will work on all three generations. Prior to OS 3.0, I used to get a message on the 2G when connected 'not made for this device' or something, but haven't seen it again since upgrading to 3.0. However it doesn't really fit the 2G design, as it is really made for the 3G/3GS forma factor, but it will work in a pinch!

I love Google Reader, but given the number of users and feeds it has and the smarts of the team it should be able to: 1) Tell me what other items in my feeds link to the same story: help me manage my attention. 2) Support smart folders: Outlook and Newsgator have 'em. Gmail (via Quick Links) does too. Why not Reader? 3) Search unread items: you can search read items now, but not unread. I want to be able to say search for all items about X and mark them as read. What else?

I would like it to de-duplicate posts that somebody shares which I am already subscribed to. They should mention "this has been shared by ...." on one instnace of the post instead of showing me the post N number of times.

Steve already mentioned it. But filtering items linking to the same story would be great. I'm getting annoyed when there is one story going around and every blog or website seems to write a post on it. But I know new other reader which is able to do this. Would be really a time saver.

I love Google Reader. I would like to be able to choose my page view. When I click to read an article the page is adapted for mobile phone, I would like to view in HTML. I know of no way to change this. It would be nice to be able to choose.

I also love reader, but I would *love* to be able to setup rules to mark feeds with certain tags read once they become so old. For instance, I have feeds tagged as news and news-slow. Anything in news is stale after about 6 hours, anything in news-slow after about 2 days. I want to setup those preferences in Reader and have it mark those items as read for me, because going through yesterday's breaking news is a pain in the neck.

My guess is that google has hired the founder of delicious to try to do something big and consistent around tagging and bookmarking. Something that could tie together Chrome, Android, Google Bookmarks, Google Reader. At least this is what I am hoping. The fragmentation is pretty painful for the end user.

greader and gmail should merge. Both emails and feeds are easy to manage and access with the help of filters and labels. Email is a good tool to share with a wide variety of social networks.

the shared items doesn't have the proper rss feed format. Can't use it elsewhere without it getting all monkeyed up.. Also a mark as unread option. Themes seems a direction it should soon incorporate. A piping feature like Yahoo Pipes offers.

one of my most desired options is to be able to sort my feeds by unread count, regardless of what folders they're in... so I get just a big list of all the feeds I'm subscribed to in order from feeds with 1 or 2 unread stories all the way to the feeds with 1000+ unread - I mentioned this to Edwin at Feedly and he seems keen to add into their product soon: http://getsatisfaction.com/feedly... - It's amazing to me that Google Reader doesn't offer that option already.

Getting the duplicate stories out will be a little tough - especially if the feed you subscribe to doesn't link back to their source - but it can definitely be done... would just have to do some regex/fuzzy logic-type querying of post title, content, and outbound links on the page to determine a percentage of similarity. You could then have a similarity threshold slider to adjust your "duplicate filter".

Duplicates within Reader are annoying. There is a script that helps with this but it's not great. It's certainly one problem with GR that needs looking at.

@mcwflint if you are a firefox user and install the feedly extension, you can configure feedly mini to mark articles as read in Google Reader when you visit websites directly.

This one would be useful: "search for all items about X and mark them as read." I like the search feature in Google Reader. When I notice an interesting news about a subject, I immediately search for it to read what has been said about it in my other feeds. 2 or 3 articles are usually more than enough to know more about it, so it would be really useful to be able to mark all the others as read.

I'm loving Feedly so far. The fact that it is a plugin is very beneficial when you are generally surfing (not reading RSS), and you auto-discover the relevant conversations to join in on. Obviously Google will do something soon that will take me back to Reader, but for now I'm going to use Feedly

Feedly's picture grid view is awesome, but the fact that I can't mark items as unread keeps me from using it fulltime. Some innovation in the way feeds are displayed would add a lot to Google Reader. Here's some idea - picture grid (ala feedly), timeline, contextual view (grouped by content like videos, links, etc)

I don't think that desk gets a computer. There is a private office off the main room. But really, what do we think he does all day, type bills in Word and surf Wikipedia? He is constantly moving and shaking. Information is looked up for him and placed on his desk at his request. I'll be suprised to see a computer on that desk.

i was excited when i saw that tweetie actually had a RT function... but then I tried retweeting... forget that. i sometimes see people on blip.fm do it that way (via @username), but it is still done manually. In fact, the Reblip button duplicates the message and adds the link (reblip) to the end of the message, (linking back to original blip). However the reblip button doesn't include the name of the original blipper, so some people add (via @user). Very strange.

By the way, before retweeting was "Popular", Twhirl was one of the first clients to integrate it and it defaulted to "via @name". There's more than one way to retweet. I sincerely hope we don't bring up Twitter "standards" since it's a madhouse on there now.

Heh. Eric, I've been wanting to do something similar with 52clix.com for a while. That is, tie an existing photo sharing/printing service with my community product. Photographers could then have an easy way to sell prints/books/etc. seamlessly through the site. It's odd to me that entrenched community and print sales haven't bumped into one another yet, as it seems like such an obvious play in the photo space. Every site out there seems to focus on either or.

I had this problem with Plurk, being on it 24/7. What I've learned and love about Twitter, even with its flaws, is that you don't owe anyone anything. Update at your leisure. Twitter has the one thing many other services don't have: mobility. That's what keeps me on it.

A must read if you have been 'on twitter' too much lately. Funny thing is the coincidence that I also started to use FriendFeed (& check SocialMedian) a couple of days ago for the same reasons. My conclusion is to push messages to t. but to microblog in a personal way on identi.ca/markusmerz and to follow and comment on FF. Twitter just doesn't taste good anymore.

For 2009 I am going to try to go the whole year using Safari. It's fast. I am using its RSS more for some feeds. Plus the snapback rocks.

@Rob I find the extensions add unnecessary load and 9x out of 10 I can do what I need to with bookmarkets. Less is more. But to each his/her own. The rendering engine in Safari is better.

FF hung a lot on my old 512MB PC. No problems now on a 4GB notebook. Chrome badly needs RSS and better bookmarking. I use it mainly for monitoring social networking sites and FF as the work horse.

Thanks, Steve. I am going to do the same. The "productivity" add-ons I started using Firefox for are not optimal for me. Because FF takes so long to load sometimes, I'm waiting longer to use an add-on than it would take me to go to another app, input my data and move to my next task/activity.
