Carrie getting some much deserved attention. "Ms. Grimes is an Internet-age statistician, one of many who are changing the image of the profession as a place for dronish number nerds. They are finding themselves increasingly in demand — and even cool. “I keep saying that the sexy job in the next 10 years will be statisticians,” said Hal Varian, chief economist at Google. “And I’m not kidding.”"

Great article, but it left out that statisticians need some CS muscle to effectively operate on large scale data. It's the combination that make Carrie -- and others like her -- 'Internet-age' statisticians.

"Two weeks ago, we launched version 2 of the FriendFeed API in beta. Since then, we've watched how developers have been using the API and collected a lot of their feedback. We've implemented some changes, and now, we're ready to remove the beta label!"

A two weeks beta in the 2.0 era sounds almost blasphem! Congrats!
- Simone Ruffilli
Congrats to Ben and Gary for all their hard work getting this out the door. And thanks to all the developers who have been sending us great feedback the past couple weeks.
- Bret Taylor
You already knew this. :p I'm pretty sure they're not all in there, either - I haven't gone all the way through my list to make sure they're ranked (or even in Flickchart's database). But some of the ones I do have ranked are shorts, which I don't count along with features on my personal lists. Though I'm thinking I should start.
- Jandy
We're just about to hit 25,000 total films in our database. There aren't too many relatively popular/available films we're still missing.
- Nathan Chase
Yeah, the ones I have left aren't popular/readily available.

Blade Runner, Alien, Jaws, Bananas, Frankenstein Junior, The Breakfast Club, All the President's Men, 3 Days of the Condor are the first off the top of my head

The Women, The World of Suzie Wong, SLC Punk, The Sweet Hereafter, It Happened One Night, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Going to try to export my Netflix ratings history and post the link

I need to work on an actual list, but add "Man On Fire" to whatever list you have.
- Ha3rvey #teamMonique
I agree with Eivind. But Casablanca's great. I love Master and Commander, Motorcycle Diaries, and Contact. Godfather is great.
- Christopher Galtenberg
Dark Knight, Scarface, Godfather, Inception, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List
- AJ Batac
I've never understood Dark Knight. It's still Top 10 on IMDB. What was the magic there? I thought it was a Spielberg-wanna-be utter mess.
- Christopher Galtenberg
Dark Knight is the darkest Batman film ever shown. If you are a Batman comic book nerd, you'd understand.
- AJ Batac
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, A Clockwork Orange, Doctor Strangelove and Apocalypse Now.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Clearly the masses aren't Batman nerds, so it's something else. 'Dark' isn't really a qualitative value for a film. So still wondering...
- Christopher Galtenberg
'Dark' is a qualitative value for a film. Without it, there'd be no horror and violence on them.
- AJ Batac
I knew you would debate the term, shouldn't have written. It's not qualitative, objectively, because it's subjective. It wouldn't be dark at all to many horror film fans. The film wasn't dark at all in my mind, just cartoony nonsense. Don't take that personally. I'm just trying to find out why you found it to be a mandatory movie.
- Christopher Galtenberg
Personally, I found Batman Begins to be a much better movie.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
:) I'm just interested in seeing the film with different eyes, wondering where you found magic... Because I think of ton of people found it as well.
- Christopher Galtenberg
Some were already mentioned here, but here are a few directors' body of work....Stanley Kubrick (Clockwork Orange, 2001, Dr Strangelove) , Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa, Tootsie, The Interpreter), John Hughes (16 Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off) , Frank Capra (Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Meet John Doe, It's A Wonderful Life), and Akira Kurosowa (The Seven Samurai, Ran, After the Rain )
- CarlC, spelling expert
Good list, Thomas. Depressing how few films appear from the last 20 years.
- Christopher Galtenberg
I think that movies mostly have to withstand the test of time to be considered for a list like this and in my case, I chose 3 movies that weren't already listed and only 3 to give other people space to add more.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Since nobody mentioned them yet, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars: A New Hope.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Full metal jacket, American pycho, Gone with the Wind, Platoon,Force10 from Novarone, Great Escape,
- Peter Dawson
Woody Allen, Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Scorsese movies
- Sepi ⌘ سپی
Shine, Monty Python Search for the Holy Grail, Raiders of Lost Ark, The Killing Fields,
- SteVe C
If it had just been the first half of the film, it would be within the 200s spot for me. That last half is disgusting. Out of nowhere it turns from a jaded superhero flick (interesting) to a crap love story (uninteresting). Two different movies here, and the result is just plain not good.
- Jonathan Hardesty
No one's mentioned Inception, but I assume you've seen it.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Not a movie, but there was a BBC show called Hustle about a group of con artists. Each episode was a different con. As a fellow lover of heist movies I recommend it.
- Corinne L
I've seen a lot of these but thank you for the suggestions. I've never seen Takers. The Town was great.
- James Ferguson
The original Italian Job. Big Deal on Madonna Street. Topkapi. And I second Rififi. And The Great Escape isn't a heist movie, but it plays like one in reverse.
- Jandy
I'm watching Maroc 7. It's Bondesque cheese, so far, I like it. I haven't gotten to the heist part yet. I should finish it tonight. I'll let you know, then.
- Anika
Nice. I'm going to look these up. Thanks Flickchart!
- James Ferguson
Finished Maroc 7 the other day and watched Asphalt Jungle tonight. I think I prefer the former. Jungle was good, but the acting was so overwrought. Maroc 7 was fun and had great lines.

I like how Rubber made your list, even though it didn't. :)

I'd say that was planned....but that would require a reason for things.
- Jonathan Hardesty
Next year I'm definitely going to utilize Flickchart more to keep track of the year's movies. Maybe I'll be better about it than I was this year. :P

Dogville is a better movie, but do I *like* it better? I'd certainly rewatch Moulin Rouge before I'd rewatch Dogville. But...Dogville pretty much broke me when I saw it.
- Jandy

Dogville is simply the better movie. Not only is it ground-breaking but it feels like it was adapted from a short story written in 1850. Moulin Rouge had a lot of swooping camera shots and ridiculous melodrama.
- Akiva
I said Dogville was better! But I have ridiculous love for Moulin Rouge's ridiculous melodrama and swooping camera shots. :p
- Jandy
Well, you are female. IT'S IN YOUR GENES AND/OR JEANS.
- Akiva
I love/hate Moulin Rouge. I don't know if I could watch Dogville again unless I had an IV drip of electrolytes.
- Derrick
I still haven't chosen, by the way. Moulin Rouge is at 111 right now, Dogville at 160. So choosing Dogville would make it jump a lot. MR is probably overranked at 111, but Dogville probably would be, too.
- Jandy
I chose Dogville. I can't explain it, though. It just felt right at the moment I clicked the button.
- Jandy
Looks like I need to add Dogville to the ever-large list of movies I need to see. :P

"Subtonix decided to create a map of the United States by pinpointing the movies which best represent each of the 50 states. For example, New Jersey is Clerks and Kansas is The Wizard of Oz. There will likely be some debate over some of these choices (is Fast Times at Ridgemont High the ultimate representation of California?) but it is an interesting concept none the less. It’s also interesting to note that more Coen Brothers films appear on the map than any other filmmaker."
- James Ferguson

Seems like a "United States of Movies Map as someone from Hollywood Sees It" map. Besides the obvious slants like "Brokeback Mountain" for Wyoming, "Jesus Camp" for Missouri (and North Dakota), and "Deliverance" for Georgia, only people from the west coast would think the whole of New York, or heck, even New York City, is best represented by "Taxi Driver".
- Mark Trapp
awwww. Rocelle ++ , that was a classic !!
- Peter Dawson
RAP, I think they're tossing the Wayne's World thing in there because of the bit about Delaware. I don't think the map is very good, but it's interesting to talk about.

I'd put The Crow over Robocop in Michigan.

As soon as I read that I knew The Departed would be MA.

Fargo for MN of course. Coen Brothers are from MN, I always assumed Fargo was revenge....

Hey, at least we didn't end up with The Ring. Or Assassins. Or Firewall.
