The dreaded un-upgradable fare bucket. How much to buy-up to the u/g fare (if offered)?

You know, they wouldn't even tell me because I'd have to do it day-of at the counter. I'm starting to wonder what good are miles or status if you can't even use them?

"In the 24 hours after JetBlue's first Tweet on Wednesday, clicks to the airline's online route-map spiked a whopping 861% by Thursday evening -- presumably coming from would-be customers seeing where they might be able to fly if they bought a $599 flight pass."

"Republic Airways Holdings chief executive officer Bryan Bedford sits down with coffee in hand at the company's headquarters in Indianapolis after arriving back into town in the early hours from Milwaukee. Today the company is closing on its purchase of Midwest Airlines, which now makes Bedford the chief of Milwaukee's hometown airline. Through this and other acquisitions - including a bid for Denver's low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines- this near-invisible US regional player is firmly staking its claim in the country's domestic market upheaval."

"The problems haven't caused injuries or crashes of widely used Embraer 170 and 190 aircraft, which are built in Brazil, but regulators cite significant safety issues in mandating enhanced inspections, modifications or overhaul of suspect parts. The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday proposed to mandate inspections and fixes to ensure that aft and forward cargo doors on the jets don't open during flight, which the agency said "could result in reduced structural integrity" and possibly rapid decompression. The FAA said there had been reports of two planes being dispatched with open cargo doors, but without any cockpit warning alerting pilots about the problem. The proposal indicates more than 150 aircraft operated by U.S. airlines would be affected."

Looks as though NWA commissioned the ad to publicize the introduction of the 787, which was supposed to be delivered to the airline (now Delta) in the summer of 2008.

Another really impressive display of the fly by wire A320 philosophy. What becomes abundantly clear is the virtues of both the Boeing and Airbus approaches to pilot control. I tend to think they're both right.

Sometime in the 4th quarter of this year DOT data will begin to flesh out the state of the US side of this competition between Delta and United on the US-Australia routes. The older 747-400 is operated by United between LAX and SYD and Delta is using a new 777-200LR on the route. It will be very interesting to see how the planes stack up against one another in terms of hourly operating costs and fuel burn per seat. The results (2 engines vs. 4) won't likely be surprising, but it will establish an interesting guide for measuring a per-seat fuel burn baseline against the A380 and 777-300ER which are flown by Australian carriers QANTAS and V Australia, respectively.

This is AOG work at its finest. It's also an interesting illustration of exactly how they put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Notice the two fresh upper panels in the 43 sections and the lower panels on the 41 section.

I think the small scale of it really allows for this. You can be standing in front of the exhibition hall and be no more than 5 min from the farthest point away. Paris, Farnborough are almost too big. The fact that it's still an emerging market really helps too.

This is fascinating. 10-abreast A350 XWB seating in a 1-2+2|2+2-1 configuration. If they can get a 16g certification, then this interior could be the biggest evolution in seating the industry has ever seen.

Definitely going to expand on this concept with a little Photoshop action of my own. Now all I need to do is find a solid cross sectional diagram of the A350 and I can get this show on the road.

I really like the fact that I'm not limited by 140 characters. It allows for more conversation and discussion. I guess in my mind I see the three different blogging platforms looking something like this: twitter --> friendfeed --> flightglobal. Essentially an ever growing hierarchy of content creation. Friendfeed is going woefully under utilized on my part.

Well, that answers that question. Air Force One - SAM 29000 - has spent the last few weeks at PAE for upgrades and repainting. Every Presidential flight requires two aircraft for backup, the 757 is subbing in for the second 747 until it returns to the Presidential Squadron.

An American blogger recently put online a confidential report by European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. It is not just any report – the subject of this secret Airbus document is the forthcoming plane of its American competitor, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. In total, the report’s 46 pages show that Airbus has an impressive knowledge of the B787 and in particular the technical problems met by Boeing during the development of its flagship carrier. Several questions arise from reading this report. How did Airbus get such detailed information? Can we talk about industrial espionage? And how valuable is this secret document? To try to answer these questions, FRANCE 24 began by meeting Jon Ostrower, the blogger who unveiled the report.
