Why had I not heard of a "Funnel Cake" until now? - http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe...
Why had I not heard of a "Funnel Cake" until now?
Do they not have funnel cakes down there? - Anika
There probably are some places that sell it, but I've never seen one. - Bryce, Low in Sodium
We do have deep fried Mars Bars in some places though. - Bryce, Low in Sodium
Bryce, they're at traveling carnivals: http://friendfeed.com/micahwi... :) - Micah Wittman
To have never heard of funnel cakes is nearly unfathomable to me. They are like awesome in a humble fattening package. - Wirehead
I'm not much of a carnival person, so I hadn't heard of 'em till a few years ago. - Andrew C
Okay, I don't think I've seen a Mars Bars since '93. They still make those? Anyway, here in the States (at least my experience here in Southern California) funnel cakes are sold at amusement parks, carnivals and fairs. I don't remember a time of not knowing what a funnel cake is. Though I won't eat them, they do smell good. - Anika
I love funnel cakes...unfortunately they mostly do "elephant ears" here. - Alex Scoble
i want a funnel cake :( - Allen Stern
"elephant ears"? - Anne Bouey
Thanks, Alex. Funnel cake appears a bit more appetizing, though! - Anne Bouey
I've paid the entry fee to fairs just to get to the Funnel Cake stand...love em! - Shannon
Anika, they don't have Mars Bars in the US!!! I would not survive for a second - Bryce, Low in Sodium
I don't recall seeing funnel cake until after I moved to the US. I like, but I try to be sane about how often I indulge. (Actually think the only time I've had it so far was at a festival in Pennsylvania in February.) [EDIT: I've seen it for sale since then, though.] - Scott of Two Countries
I've heard of it but never tried it - M F
I've heard of them but never seen one or tried one. Like Alex said, I think we only have elephant ears in our area. - Rochelle
*Googles elephant ears* - Derrick
all things in their time... enjoy - Jim Hearts FF
Elephant ears are awesome. - Michael McKean
Funnel cakes and elephant ears are both good, but I lean more toward elephant ears, especially if they do the hot apple topping. *wipes drool from chin* - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
Love how Wikipedia covers all of these under just one article: Fried Dough. Period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... (I take that back, elephant ears and several others are Fried Dough, but funnel cakes are something separate.) Both funnel cakes and elephant ears are widely available in Indiana at fair times, but I have never had either one. Perhaps partly explained by the fact that I haven't been to the State Fair since I was probably about 6. - Kamilah Gill
I love funnel cakes. Can't believe you hadn't had one! - Nation Hahn
That Wikipedia article sucks. Elephant ears are much more delicious than it makes it sound. - Rochelle
Nation, perhaps I will correct that soon. If I do, you'll surely hear about it here somewhere. All of my little culinary exploits end up on here, whether anyone cares or not. FF is my Facebook. :P Rochelle. Then go in there and type something in the caption for the elephant ears like "noobs u suck. ears RULE! give them a separate article!". Or perhaps a more subtle and nuanced editing job is in order ;) - Kamilah Gill
Elephant ears are sold here, like Ha3rvey said with that tasty apple topping, sometimes they do a chocolate hazelnut & almond thing. The people who will be at our street fair tomorow also has this mango topping that's good. But if I had to choose, funnel cakes are way better than elephant ears. - Anika
/bryce - while the Mars Bar was discontinued in the US, the the same company produces a similar product - the Snickers Almond Bar. I've read the reason for the replacement/renaming is that the Snickers brand is the more popular brand in the US. - Andrew C
You were certainly missing out! - Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
Do you guys have the regular Snickers, with peanut nougat, peanuts and caramel? - Bryce, Low in Sodium
Yes, Bryce. We still have regular Snickers in the US. - Laura B.
Yes Funnel Cakes and Elephant ears are a staple here at every Southern Indiana Fair!!! - Melissa Schaefer
