Re: Scripting News: Notes about blog comments - http://scripting.com/stories...
"Tumblr has a nice feature/gimmick whereby when the blogger writes a question (ie. includes a question mark), they automatically enable a reply feature (with a very tight character limit) and display a 'Let people answer this' checkbox to disable the replies. You may like something similar." - Foomandoonian
Re: Scripting News: I now see Stallman's logic - http://scripting.com/stories...
"I think Disqus serves commenters first, and blog owners second. As a commenter, I get the ability to comment in loads of places in a frictionless way, and some social perks. As a blogger, you get more comments then you (perhaps) would otherwise. Your feature would serve you, but do nothing for the commenter. I would still like to see them add it." - Foomandoonian
Re: Scripting News: Advancing the art of web writing - http://scripting.com/stories...
"Re: Altering your own content embedded on my blog. Nice in principle, but I don't want to make some point on my blog referencing a point you made, only to have you edit your post and make me look like an idiot. Instead, the quote should remain fixed but perhaps a note is appended, saying 'Original author has revised this text, click here to update'." - Foomandoonian

"I just embedded a tweet and then deleted the original - and it continued to display. So deleted tweets will remain embedded, for a few minutes at least." - Foomandoonian

"Do not want. Personally, I'd like to see them try to draw inspiration from other classic episodes. I bet The Doomsday Machine would make an amazing film." - Foomandoonian

Re: Doctor In Distress - http://littlestorping.co.uk/2011...
"I seem to remember that there was a lot of fear and negativity surrounding the news of what would become the 2005 series. My 'fear' about this new movie is that a rebooted Doctor Who could be an amazing thing to behold, but there are countless ways it could be done badly. Of course, even if it's truly excellent, there will still be those who hate it. Putting the BBC show on pause strikes me as a distinct possibility. I have no insider knowledge on this, but I think ratings may be in decline. Certainly, the show doesn't seem to have the influence it once did: The Christmas specials used to be epic two-parters, but now they are single episodes; the Children in Need specials were magnificent little stories in their own right, but the last one was reduced to a raffle. My theory is that the show has become too smart for a mass audience. A break may be a good thing." - Foomandoonian
Re: Scripting News: I love my Kindle Fire - http://scripting.com/stories...
"I'm wondering if some Fires are duds. Some reviews say the performance is fine while others say it's poor. Or maybe there are two classes of consumers: Those who don't notice or care when the interface stutters, and those who declare it a lemon if the scrolling sticks for even a nano second. Would be interesting to get your response to Marco Arment's review: http://www.marco.org/2011/11/1..." - Foomandoonian
Re: WEBSITE OF THE DAY: Evolution of the Web - http://www.pocket-lint.com/news...
"Although I enjoyed seeing the browser screenshots, I think this infographic is ultimately an example of style over substance. Worse, it’s positively misleading. If you just glance at it you develop the idea that somehow all web technologies have been leading up to Google Chrome, which then re-ignites the fires of innovation. With a little more consideration, you realise that the motions of the colourful wavy lines mean absolutely nothing. It’s not information, it’s marketing. I have a more detailed rant on my blog. I’m sad to see poor infographics are still producing so much undeserved positive PR on the web." - Foomandoonian
Re: Meet Scroll, a new tool that wants to de-templatize the news web - http://www.niemanlab.org/2011...
"By responsive, I mean a design that uses CSS media queries to deliver the most appropriate layout to each device (mobile, tablet, desktop etc.), like the new Boston Globe design.  And by accessible, I mean designs that are accessible to all types of disabled users (can your text size be changed, colours be altered, can it be read properly by an audio browser, does all non-text content have appropriate metadata, etc.) I agree that semantic data can be bolted on afterwards. The fact that you consider it a lower priority than cosmetic design is unsurprising. I'm sure Scroll will appeal to many designers and journalists (and readers) more comfortable with paper media." - Foomandoonian
Re: Scripting News: Who would play Steve Jobs? - http://scripting.com/stories...
"I'd strongly second Noah Wyle. He was great as Jobs in The Pirates of Silicon Valley. They could make a new film a kind of sequel. Anthony Michael Hall was fun as Gates too, and John 'Bender' Di Maggio would still make a great Ballmer." - Foomandoonian
Re: Meet Scroll, a new tool that wants to de-templatize the news web - http://www.niemanlab.org/2011...
"This feels like a backward step to me. News online would be far better served innovating responsive, accessible and semantically meaningful designs. Play to the strengths of the internet." - Foomandoonian
