"Keep getting to slammed for not switching off the mains or unplugging your gadgets? It’s not that people are reckless or unconcerned about the environment, but sometimes simple and easy things like this becomes too much of an effort. So should we mop around for allowing Stand-By Power to contribute to almost 11% of our monthly electricity bill? No ways, we should endorse cool innovations like the “Power Socket SWITCH” and live happily ever after!"

"First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

While the fall foliage in North America and East Asia takes on a fiery red hue, perplexingly, autumn leaves in Europe are mostly yellow in color. Gorgeous shot. The colors could also stem from the acidity of the soil. If you take the train from London to Edinburgh, it is startling to see how intensely lime-green the foliage is. I recall thinking, "so green and lifelike" as it had this surreal aspect to it.
- Fossil Huntress
One of the reasons that plant life in Scotland is so green is the amount of rain. The soil is almost always wet. I noticed the difference in leaf colors when I moved from Edinburgh to the States, but I'd just assumed it came down to different varieties of trees.

If we follow the line of reasoning where the current government must apologize for all previous governments then it eventually reaches the point of absurdity. Besides how meaningful is an apology on behalf of someone else?
- Adewale Oshineye
Ok, I was being a bit silly about Wilde (there are plenty of things the Victorians could apologize for). But Turing was abused by what could be argued to be the "current" government (or at least political system), and that we still think of as the "good guys" (for wont of a better term) in WWII. Now we have every type of status update under the sun (Twitter, Facebook), do we have anything left to talk about in long form conversation? The great thing I love about catching up with people is discovering what they have been up to and events that have happened in their life. But, frankly, with a lot of my friends that I see and speak to, I pretty much know the full contents of their life from the point of our last meeting. The long flowing catch up has been replaced with 'oh yeah, I read that on your Facebook page'. Even on FriendFeed, while the conversation thrives on the back and forth, it's in a very structured, your statement - think and type reply - review other contributions fashion. The cut and thrust, the inflections and charisma of a great intellectual debate may loose some of it's jazz in text form. Is the quantity and the saturation of real-time information spoiling the quality and art of the conversation?
- Johnny Worthington
from email
I think it's a matter of distinction. I can certainly FOLLOW a person's life through status updates and photos, but the opportunity for gaining depth comes through conversation. Even if that conversation is IM, it helps because there's a two way which allows for better understanding and communication that static broadcasts offered in mediums such as Twitter and Facebook are not capable of reproducing (even which replies, comments and retweets).
- Mike Nayyar
I WISH I could wrap up my conversations in 140 minutes. :p
- Josh Haley
The quantity and saturation of real-time information only competes with the information-sharing part of conversation. I think keeping up online serves to help the better parts of real-life conversation start sooner whenever you do get together.

"This breathtaking picture captures the seconds before a daring surfer is engulfed by a monster wave. The spectacular shot was taken by surfer-turned-photographer Clark Little, who captured the incredible scene on Ke Iki beach, in Hawaii. The massive shorebreak was more than 8ft tall but luckily the surfer survived unscathed. Such shorebreaks, caused when a wave hits the shallow water at the sand, are powerful enough to drag down unsuspecting surfers and have been known to cause neck and back injuries as it breaks. But Mr Little, from Oahu, Hawaii, is not afraid to jump into the water to capture the incredible power of the ocean on camera. The 40-year-old, who has been a photographer for just two years, leans on his 35 years' surfing experience to knows when to be in the right place at the right time "

@Robert RE "I have enough noise in my life. I don't need to have more" - isn't it a lot of noise having 26K subscriptions and 46K subscribers on your frf account? When something strange and unusual happens around you, you can either try to stop it or try to see what it can develop into. You choose to stop - and it stopped. Until I get a Wave invite, I'm considering Google Reader (which has notes, tags, likes, follows) + Google Profile + Posterous (which duplicates FF's autoposting).
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Considering rolling my own. PubSubHubbub is merely infrastructure; Wave isn't ready; Google Reader is more like digg/reddit, needs more ability to host its own content in addition to discussion; posterous and tumblr are really blogs, and are still kind of isolating; The real problem would be getting people to use a federated, distributed setup: there's a usability and consistency aspect to a having a single destination website where people can congreate; that, and I'm kind of lacking time.
- Andy Bakun
+1 Andy. FriendFeed is a very unique amalgam of features, that once you come to appreciate them, are glaringly lacking on most other social platforms. Agreed that distributed would be a good idea to avoid the cost and control issues we have seen play out yesterday. Who knows, maybe Zuckerberg will surprise us all by making FF (by whatever name) an open building block in the FB ecosystem...

Am i right in thinking you can't edit the rooms you share into after you've shared an item? And if so...heck why not?? :) Would really help with managing duplicates...
I believe you have to delete your thread from everywhere it's shared to, rather than saying, "Delete it from room X, but not from my feed or from rooms Y and Z." This would be a helpful feature, though, in editing one's own posts.
- Ladybug Heather
There should be a nice edit/delete feature for FF entries that gives you the ability to add/remove the feeds you've posted it to, the ability to add/remove the images/media posted with the entry and the ability to edit the link.
- Kol Tregaskes
it would avoid Duplicates AND fragmented conversations. It makes it REALLY hard to embed a FF entry as a comment block when it can be SOOO easily fragmented!! If you import a service into various groups/rooms it will start as a duplicate.
