FriendFeeders... how would you help Cyndy understand why you use FriendFeed? (Send comments as replies if you want to hit Twitter)
- Louis Gray
It takes a while to get into, and it's still more promise than actuality for me.
- Ian Betteridge
It didn't make sense to me either until I started using Alert Thingy. Also, making an imaginary for each person you follow on other services but who don't have FF accounts is essential.
- Akiva Moskovitz
You need to be involved in conversations and be into sharing things in Google Reader and the like to enjoy FriendFeed fully.
- Brandon Titus
I use FriendFeed because it's a great hub. Its like having an integrated twitter/RSS client.
- engtech
I would start with a list of people you know personally and those you dont but share interests with you. Then begin to interact with them on topics of shared interest. If you aren't intersted in new relationships / sources of insight .... It will be rather dull ... Its like a virtual watercooler. Louisgray has a post of solid ff players you should consider. Could be your follow list is too small.
- Tim Bauer
every 10 mins, as I set it up in twhirl, FF gets me an instant picture of what's going on around that realy matters to me
- julian_marain
+ FF = right balance of content focused / people focused
- julian_marain
Comment comment comment, that's my advice. Like-minded people appear pretty quickly. I've made so many new friends on FF!
- Carla Thompson
Cyndy, my favorite things about FriendFeed: (1) Discovery - FriendFeed is a distributed human filtering app. The most interesting stuff is shared by people with similar interests to you. (2) Comments - as others mention, this is a really great aspect of FriendFeed. (3) Research - I'm finding really good information via FriendFeed. I have an ongoing search for 'enterprise 2.0' to see what people are saying about that.
- Hutch Carpenter
Kool-Aid? Oh yeah!!!! (as I come bursting through the walls)
- Chris Reed
I have nothing to add to the reasons I use FF, I agree with most of the guys here. I just want to recommend to filter by service sometimes, it makes the reading easier.
- Alejandro
@Akiva See, the problem for me with that is that now I'm duplicating effort unless I'm putting all my eggs in the basket of FF. Too much to switch!
- Cyndy
@bjtitus I don't use Google Reader at all. I use endo on Mac, and have been slowly moving to the @Profy reader for sharing items. So meh.
- Cyndy
@carlat You, chica, put the nail in the coffin for me. You commented on this, but didn't Tweet it, and if @louisgray hadn't sent me the link I'd have missed it. ;)
- Cyndy
Ohhhhh. So this is what that half-conversation on Twitter was about?
- James P
I use FriendFeed for memetic masturbation: I post things and other people ignore them, so I figure I'm "flying solo". I started using it instead of emailing my wife dozens of links to web sites she never checked out.
- Kelly Fox
If you're sharing at all, you'll positively appreciate Friendfeed more. If you're not, you should.
- Charlie Anzman
Will someone please subscribe to and comment on my husband's links? But seriously, "cool links" were piling up in my inbox and this is a much more interesting way to share stuff. I've enjoyed taking my RW friendship with Carla here and have met new people through her feed. I've also trolled the everyone feed to find new friends with similar interests. There's a great collection of links every time I log in.
- Shellee
I view FriendFeed as being a very broad Twitter plus aggregation.
