Despite Shey and Louis Gray talking about writing posts in 20 minutes it always takes me longer. I usually work on posts for days even weeks sometimes.
Not every post I do takes such a short time. The one I just did was closer to 45 minutes. There's nothing wrong with letting it sit while you get more data. - Louis Gray
@Louis - I just wanted to comment that I think it is great you produce such quality so quickly. Did it take any practice or was it just natural to write that fast? - Franklin Pettit
Franklin, they might take 20mins to write, but I can assure you that the prep time can be a lot longer than that. I might only take <20mins, but I can often be reading or playing with the product for a significant time prior to the actual post - Duncan Riley
Thats a good point Duncan the research time is outside of actual writing time. - Franklin Pettit
For me that was a one time event -- I had the post in my head and wanted to write it during my lunch break since I was gonna be busy that night. +1 Duncan. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
I tend to write quickly, but Duncan is right in that there is time in thinking and gathering data. I just did an interview with Eric, the CEO of Gnip, which was 20-30 minutes in itself, and then making sure I got quotes right and links, etc. Also, articles that have more screenshots or are reviews can take longer. The 20 minute ones are more pontificating or observations than thorough product analysis. - Louis Gray
Loius, Shey, Duncan- , but then again, it depends on what type of blogger one is and their style of blogging. Redmonk was one of the first Analyst who described my style well as an " seeing the emergence of thlinking? thought/linking and embedding." details here http://www.redmonk.com/jgovern... - Peter Dawson
and just to set the prospective.. that post was framed way back in 2005 !! - Peter Dawson
I am actually working on a post that I've been writing for several days now. The thing is that I wonder whether or not the blog post will actually be read by people and considered good writing. I'm still not satisfied with it. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I have several posts already in the making -- starting out with just jot notes in my FriendFeed room. That way when I'm ready to write, I have all the points I want to make and I can communicate my message with a logical flow. However, not all of those ideas get published for one reason or another. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Well, that's how most of them are anyway. The Frienderati post was one where I had the points in my head, whereas my rants, I write on the fly. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
If I get on a rant, I tend to write and post pretty quick, but I learned long ago, to be sure to re-read it, as ranting can sometimes sure look silly the next day... - Ian May
