literally brilliant way to push people to use gmail... ;)
- Marc Mulhern
its ugly as sin but it is a point. I would love to have a bit of text control and layout control and colour control.

Of course I've got a Glue account, but can't say I use it a lot. I occasionally hit the 'I like this' button, but that's about it.
- Irma Vermaat
@Holden Well, I've talked to them about that and they have told me that as soon as Google opens up Chrome to add-ons they are ready to go.
- Mathew™ aka Youngblood
@Holden, Mathew is spot on - we'll have a Chrome add-on when Google enables add-ons for Chrome. In the meantime you can start building up your taste profile at GetGlue.com :)
- Fraser
Agree on the whole. I always find these categories a little artificial: Really "Forrester-speak". :) I think the recommendations are the most interesting. I'd make a separate post out of that.
- Meryn Stol
You say it yourself: "What’s interesting isn’t this vision for the future, but what it holds in store for brands, " . I'd like these recommendations to be fleshed out with concrete first steps to take. Doesn't have to be more than links to relevant resources.
- Meryn Stol
Meryn The recommendations are fleshed out in the actual reports. Our clients (brands) have access to see them.
- Jeremiah Owyang
Hmm ok... Then I'll need to get the details elsewhere I guess. :)
- Meryn Stol
There will be a give and take between communities and brands. The thing is, Facebook doesn't have a competitive alternative that users could go to. In my report, we suggest that active communities could define specs for products, and bid MULTIPLE companies to build it.
- Jeremiah Owyang
good stuff Jeremiah, enjoyed and some good thought provokers there for the future
- Richard Binhammer
Nice paper but really expensive for young people. $750 means $41 for page.
- Alp
Great information, understanding the future's potential is more important than ever on the social web.
- Maria Reyes-McDavis
Interesting, but very general and hard to apply. I see companies more as å provide of tools/stage for conversation, aka the gold rush mining vs selling tools
- Anders Dahlberg
Alp, Many of Forrester's clients are large brands who have a subscription. We're still sharing a great deal on this blog, and have given the report to bloggers to cover, so there's value to be had there.
- Jeremiah Owyang
Jeremiah (and the team), a great piece of work and, I imagine, a labour of both love and loathing at times! I have been very interested in this area as I have looked at the shift in skills to deliver social media activity changes from one of basic coding knowledge to much more human, interactive skills.
- Paul Fabretti
Fantastic article! I found it SO intriguing that I've even printed it out!
- J. D. Ebberly
"How Brands Should Prepare" is a great bit of information. Jeremiah, it would be nice (i'd be reading) if you expanded in future blog posts about the "How Brands Should Prepare".
- frank barry
That's likely to be a research report I'm thinking about writing Frank
- Jeremiah Owyang
Probably correct in assuming that most online social networks will neither spawn nor solidify to the point of being considered ‘affinity groups’ with the level of cohesion, unified budgetary authority or organized implementation capability of NGOs, churches, or employee aggregations. Even in the era of social commerce. I hope I’m wrong.
- A Mitchell
Great post, understanding the future's potential is more important than ever on the social web.
- Vlad Hrouda
I not only agree with Sarah's method, but I'm also a cheez it tosser myself.
- drew olanoff
It's not as fun to eat them unless you're surrounded by them!
- Tamara
It only gets better from here:) Are they walking yet?
- Michael Fidler
Drew, Ken and Tamara, you have good taste. Michael, they both stand. Matthew took 4 steps in a row today, but it still makes him nervous. Sarah has taken one or two in a row. We don't believe it counts until there is video, and you'll get it here first.
- Louis Gray
tap...tap...tap...we're waiting for that video!
- Anne Bouey
They're steps in the right direction. I'm looking forward to the video.
- Michael Fidler
I'm with Sarah. I like to do this kind of thing myself. Like squeezing all the toothpaste out of a giant sized tube or getting a new box of Kleenix and pulling them all out one by one. Maybe I should go buy some Cheez-Its. Naw, it'd have to be Cheese Nips. Cheez-Its are too good to waste.
- Dawn
Yup. That sounds about right. The old tried and true floor food consuming method. Both our kids mastered it. Luckily, they have moved on passed sofa food and straight on to carry it wherever I go food.
- Paul Puri
why not when so young don't have the limits :) To just have fun while you can, nice set of pictures.

Yahoo may have email solutions better than Gmail (e.g. I like Zimbra), but the advantage of Gmail is that it's an hub to access to all the other Google integrated services
- Roberto
Hope Yahoo sticks around for you, Allen!
- Lindsay
While I agree the features make it definitely the most ideal and functional way, there are issues with security. When employees come and go, Gmail is too universally accessible. A removed employee can easily go and perhaps cause problems with access to such an instant "hub." At Crocs, we have one internal email that has shared control and, for the most part, different passwords with...

Zee - this is an very thoughtful and complete review. Thanks for taking time to write such a good one. With support like this we'll be able to realize our potential!
- Fraser
@Mohomed Abdullahi - it's the first time it's been done like this. Glue uses semantics to connect you to friends around a common object regardless of the website you visit. Example: if you visit The Hangover on IMDB and I visit it on RottenTomatos, we're connected and able to read one another's review. Much different and more powerful than anything else out there.
- Fraser
I don't like this concept much; cause it decreases the viewable area of the web page on my screen
- Özkan Altuner
Isn't this the same company that had...oh, what was it called. Blue Dot? Something like that. For bookmarking that was semantically smart? I liked it, but I never spent enough time with it to really make it powerful. Is that still around?
- Jandy
Brain: Calling out is great but thats not the same is building one right. Is there an existing successful tagging standard that you are referring to?
- Kiran Patchigolla
Lovely screenshot: Services that help you FreeBase. I think those services are: 1 candle holder and 1 spoon holder.
- Frank Jonen
Understood Kiran. What about RDFa and uM? Are they good enough? I don't know. Is there something better that could be developed and "standardized"? Maybe. To be fair, I have yet to dig deeper into Common Tag and I will do just that when I get some free time. As an old standards wonk, I'm skeptical of any grassroots standards initiative. What ever happened to DataPortability?
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Frank: Keepin' it classy. =) It's what we all do best. So, what's wrong with the screenshot? Also, clearly you've not got much experience in freebasing, which counts as a point in your favor. Candle stick holder? Like, freebasing in Dickensian literature?
- Jolie O'Dell
Now that I've actually read the entire post and dug into "Common Tag" a bit deeper, I see that it does indeed rely on RDFa. I'm still skeptical. Where's IBM, Microsoft, Oracle? If they aren't behind it, then it can't be a real standard right? Sorry, the old standards cynic in me tends to rear its head every so often. To this day, I'm still haunted by old posts like this:...

- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Hmm, I can see a lot of usage on consumer content. how do you see enterprise adoption of this will help?
- Kiran Patchigolla
Common Tag is primarily aimed at consumer content, not so much for internal enterprise use, albeit I can see ways how to use it there too. But the point is that the web-exposed data becomes standardized.
- Andraž Tori
And if your in Times Square and want to see a killer view, swing by the Six Flags office. I'll get you some free tickets you can use at the SanFran or LA parks.
- sean andersen
You should go to Winnipeg. Lunch and dinner on me. ;)
- AJ Batac :)
Going to Israel anytime? I want you to visit EZchip (EZCH). Also, Netlogic (NETL) in Mountain View, CA

I wish my startup is in the US. Worked hard for 10 months, and just launched my site for public testing. Check it out if you could: http://65amp.com/alekkus

SesameVault, a start-up B2B web-based video platform is next to Grand Central and Dorthy.com, a start-up media company that's part search, part social network, part media portal is on Wall Street. Holler!
- ari
Tumblr would be cool... FogCreek is cool too!!
- nickgs
Yes, 65amp is a flash-based mashup application that let everyone mashup their contents. The page is fully customizable, with drag-drop features, rotating, resizing stuffs and changing the styles. The first time you load will take a little while, but subsequent loads will be fast.
- Alekkus
How long are you in New York for? I'll be there Friday night, it's be awesome to grab a drink with Scoble! Also, check out Connected Ventures, the people behind Vimeo and College Humor. Ask them about their TOS.

Robert - we (AdaptiveBlue) are in New York and would love to have you to our office to demo you the new version of Glue (you liked Jeremiah O's review of it yesterday :)
- Fraser
I second Fraser's suggestion of visiting AdaptiveBlue to see Glue. It has come a long way since we first showed it to you (back when it was called BlueOrganizer).
- Andy Roth
Hey Robert, I posted your question on the Gildertech board and George Gilder responded "My two favorite New York companies are Gerson Lehrman (the private Google of consultants rather than URLs) and Boliven, a spinoff that makes finding, creating, and comparing patents and intellectual property simple and lawyer free." - George Gilder
- Stephen Pickering
Oh, Robert, one member of the board, who is a funny guy, said humorously, "Your first question to him is, why would you leave Half Moon bay to go to NYC?........................flop" hehehehehe. I'm not sure what he meant. Just trying to be funny I guess.
- Stephen Pickering
Yes! You should meet with Triton media, they are in NY next week too. They are a one-stop shop for radio stations that offers tools to help them build their digital engagement and drive revenues. Mobile platforms, local search, etc.
- Maya Benyehuda
Are you stopping by at the http://www.web3event.com on T/W by any chance? I'm on the program. All about Semantics. Several Semantic-related companies there.
