Over the past few months, Twitter has experienced explosive growth, attracting celebrity users such as Oprah, and a growing mountain of media and blog coverage. Sysomos Inc., one of the world's leading social media analytics companies, conducted an extensive study to document Twitter's growth and how people are using it.

It is unimaginable to me that we have so many people who have been displaced from their homes and are forced to live in tents or other forms of shelter in public areas. These are not bums... Oprah has brought some public attention to the matter through a recent segment she did. Now what will cities and states do about it to try to help.

Bonuses have become a dirty 4 letter word! Just as new accounting regulations a few years ago changed how companies were granting large pools of stock options, all of this attention to the abuse in C-Suite bonus payouts will most likely change the game again and bonus payouts will shrink for many outside of the C-Suite.

A very cool concept, and one that has served CarPhoneWarehouse well in the U.K. The BBY Mobile stores are well assorted and give you everything mobile all in one spot, as well as a staff specifically trained in mobile devices and accessories. Obviously too soon to tell if this model will work for BBY in the U.S. and Canada. They face stiff competition from Walmart and the carriers.

Can Sony be a legitimate contender to the Kindle or will it be like the many deadpooled attempts to take on the iPod. It is too early to tell, but Sony should be lowering their price to buy share and catch up. It is still early enough in the game to overtake the Kindle if Sony has a good product, but they won't get there offering a similarly priced model. They should do what Lexus did when they wanted to take a leadership position in the U.S. luxury auto market; they flooded the market with low cost luxury cars to get them in the hands of americans, get them road tested and let the word of mouth effect take over from there. Sony, reduce your price, buy share and have a great product. Once you do that, you can win as the switching costs are too high and who would want to.

Obama makes a good showing on Leno. Comes across as calm, cool, collected and under control of the current economic situation. It was probably calming to some, but concerning to me as underneath that calm exterior, Obama is facing the worst economic crisis since the 30s. His staff and policies are coming under attack. Will his external calm and resolve help to ease the concerns and fears of many Americans.

The heads of U.S. banks have been been receiving a significant portion of their annual earnings in performance based compensation. As we have learned over the past year, the pay has not been commensurate with the performance. As this industry gets rewritten and regulated will those who had hoped for big paydays going forward flee to other countries or industries as it no longer appears to be a free lunch.

AIG continues to make the wrong choices in what it does with U.S. taxpayer dollars. Now they are using TARP funds to sue the government, its 80% majority owner, over foreign tax payments. If the government controls 80% of the company, why can't it block such senseless acts!

Obama shows his commitment to small businesses, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Will it be enough, only time will tell. It is, however, a step in the right direction.

AIG to pay over $165m in bonuses because they were promised last year. I am all for bonus payouts, but they should be performance based. Needing a $170b tax payer bailout to stay alive doesn't sound like it constitutes the payout of bonuses. The continued receipt of a paycheck should be bonus enough for those at AIG as tax payers foot the bill. Why is it we can stop some companies from taking delivery of expensive new aircraft and others from hosting lavish parties, but we can't materially impact the payout of AIG bonuses.

an example of doing the wrong things, putting margin ahead of customers. i get that laptops are a lost leader, but you cannot penalize your customers and give them an excuse to go to the competition. in many instances, accounts focus too much on the numbers, not realizing the implications on customer LTV. Hourly associate performance based compensation, coupled with strict mandates from the bean counters can lead you down the path of the dead pool. Wake up Office Depot, don't forget what happened to Circuit City when they fired all of their most experienced sales associates in exchange for cheaper and less experienced bodies.
