Being the only distribution channel for iphone apps means Apple's App Store is missing out on a exponentially growing revenue opportunity. Whether app developers should market their products seems beside the point, because I'd argue they'd have to do it anyway. There are basic steps Apple could take to improve app search, discovery and sharing that would go a long way of addressing this issue and capturing this untapped potential. I have highlighted these steps in some <a href="http://phc.clouin.com/post...">recent</a> and <a href="http://clouin.com/2008...">older</a> posts. Most of these apps are either games or <a href="http://phc.clouin.com/post...>books</a>, which will only exacerbate the lackluster user experience and depressed long tail, we're seeing in appsfire's chart.
