Did you try with the Air App or with the Web Version? It doesn't work to me on this last one.
- Flavio
Both, I demoed both in manchester last night
- Paul Kinlan
strange. I just tried again and the comment did not post on FF. And shortly after did not show on FD either. Tried on both Firefox 3.5 and Chrome 3.
- Flavio
apparently now the features are back! Don't know if it was some bug or a temporary glitch, but it wirks now. Thanks
- Flavio
When will be available a FriendDeck version like the last TweetDeck? I agree a more customizable interface, with unlimited columns and multi account management
- Roberto
from iPhone
With the "Link" link directing to the original post rather than on the FF post it's not possible to see where the entry is coming from (especially in case of rooms). Can this be changed?
There is still quite a bit to do and clean up. I want to have a skinnable UI so that it doesn't have the dowdy background and moves away from the tweetdeck comparison.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Sounds cool, Paul. :-) Have you seen the new Seesmic Desktop?
- Kol Tregaskes
Paul, do you think you can add Direct messages support? How often does FD refresh? And can we change the format size?
- Kol Tregaskes
If they are available via the api I should be able to however I have not checked the docs since before the beta came out
- Paul Kinlan
Check every minute. Will be looking into the long poll soon.
- Paul Kinlan
If I post a reply to someone's tweet that shows up in the AIR version of FriendDeck, does the reply go out to twitter as well? If not, I'd suggest this as a feature which is one feature on FF I like using.
Frienddeck has definite memory leak problems in a browser. This happens in both FireFox and in Google Chrome. I left it running over the weekend in Google Chrome and it is now using 800MB of memory. Is there any active development on FriendDeck or has Paul moved on to other things?
I have been a bit snowed under recently, but I will be open sourcing the code soon and also activly developing the codebase.

However, agreed it does have memory issues, the browsers don't seem to clear down the memory of DOM elments, that and I keep everything rather than let it drop off.

I am really considering opening up the development of FriendDeck to the world. I have not had a lot of time recently to dedicate to development or support of the application... If you are interested in helping out leave a comment. :)
Unfortunately I have never been able to get the AIR app running on my Macbook. I upgraded just now to 0.3 and it still won't run. A blank window opens, I get the beach ball, and then the app crashes, even after a reboot. Are there any orphan files I can delete, or something else I can try?
I can't isoloate the problem on the Mac, for some people it works fine and others it doesn't. Does tweetdeck work? Paul.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Yes, I am able to run Tweetdeck just fine. I tried to install FriendDeck again, but it still won't run. I'm getting the instant crash again, and I'm not sure what I could do to send you logs or whatever to help debug it.
- Cheryl Jones
from Friend Deck
hmm, I am not sure what it is that is causing the problem. There is a new version of Adobe Air that might help 1.5.1 that might help.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
If I can remember later tonight I'll try to upgrade Air and install FriendDeck again. It's a pity I haven't been able to get it to work since the website looks good. I just would like to have a desktop version to have open separately from my browser.
- Cheryl Jones
Brilliant, let me know how it goes... I am just still waiting for the latest jQuery UI to be released so I can upgrade FriendDecl.
- Paul Kinlan
Finally got around to installing FriendDeck after updating AIR and it seems to work now. Will the window for the shortcuts be fixed in the next release? I have a ton of rooms and I can't see the whole list even if I expand the list to the bottom of my screen.
- Cheryl Jones
Feature Request (or bug?): Please add some memory housekeeping. FriendDeck's memory footprint increases with time until it becomes unusable. Can it, maybe, drop old messages after a user-configurable limit is reached?
It's not a bug, it means that the HTML isn't being properly escaped. That could be <b>bad</b>. Well...I suppose that is a bug, now that I looked at FriendDeck hehe.
- Damon Cortesi
Yes, the web client should be escaping properly. I will check it out and get it fixed.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
The encoding is fixed in the webclient. Will fix it in the desktop client too.

Feature Request: (Air App, I do not think it could be done in the Web App) A configurable notification system. (Similar to TweetDeck) wherein a popup/audible notice would trigger for a room/friend/search term.
When I create a room that aggregates a number of feeds all of the postings to that room appear to come from me rather than from the original author which could be misleading. The room I created is for the Victorian bushfires and I don't want to take undue credit for other people's work. Any ideas?
For example, I've logged into both at the same time and my web version is missing my comments:koltregaskes panel that I have in my Adobe Air version.
- Kol Tregaskes
The settings are shared. You can't login to both at exactly the same time because the system requires access to your frienddeck auth cookie. The auth cookie is only valid for the most recent login so either your app or web client won't technically be logged in.
- Paul Kinlan
OK, but they should still have the same settings, right?
- Kol Tregaskes
they should if you have both open at once only one will take precedence
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Sorry, to clarify, if you have both windows open only the settings from one window will be saved. Normally it will be the last window you have opened.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Feature Request: I would like to see a core set of settings common to all clients and another set specific to each. I like to think of them as complementary, not either/or.
- Alexandros Georgiadis
Everything should be in both versions. The only thing that differs is the timing of the releases.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
OK, I have both windows open (not important) but the tabs were different. I set the tabs a while back so both versions should be the same. Will have another place tomorrow. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Feature request: Drop down at the start of the command line with the available commands. It will serve as reference and as a point and shoot method. Optionally, of course.
The release of v0.4 is taking a little longer than expected (mainly because I have been working on it in my off work time until 12:30 am most nights) and I have been trying to catch up on some sleep.
Paul, we certainly understand. We appreciate all the work you have put into FriendDeck in your spare time. However long it takes, I'm sure v0.4 will be worth waiting for!
- Seth Greenblatt
from Friend Deck
Hey, who gave Paul permission to sleep?? ;) j/k Love the work you are doing :)
- Robert Couture
from Friend Deck
Gosh, don't worry about it Paul. Don't kill yourself doing it. We can all wait for something good. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
hehe, the main thing I am waiting for is jQuery UI 1.6 now.... that and I have been working a bit on www.twe2.com as well.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
It is pretty hard to sync the versions completly. Most often I will update the web app first as it won't annoy people like the auto-updater might. If there is breaking change both will be updated at the same time.
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Even the ability to show a version number in the Air app and the web app (even if different) is a helpful bit of info.
- Robert Couture
Paul, 0.3 looks really good. It gives me a lot of the flexibility I need. One thing that either I am missing, or isn't available is the ability to change the text size. Some people with eagle eyesight might want it shrink the text to make more fit on a page, but I would like the text larger, so that I can see without straining. Thanks, and keep up...
Both of these features are a great (+100) idea :)
- Robert Couture
Re-sizing the boxes for each is the only thing I'm waiting for atm. ;-) I'm hoping to use FriendDeck as a replacement for Twhirl (of which I'm getting tired of waiting for then to fix the jumping up ad down refresh bug), so one panel taking up the whole window would be great for me. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I am toying around with different layout styles so I will take this in to consideration :)
- Paul Kinlan
from Friend Deck
Is it possible that you can auto-fit the panels to fit the window size? I have FD on my second monitor and the 6th panel is just going on the screen. First second is larger and the 7th panel is cut off too.
- Kol Tregaskes
I will look into it. I need to make the views ace so it might be an option
- Paul Kinlan
Or an option for one panel like Twhirl.
- Kol Tregaskes
