I have lost nearly all faith in Friendfeed. The original beta was perfect. Today I came back and everything was screwed up. Menu tiny and on the wrong side for reading. Post box hidden as in FF 1.0. Double tall top bar. Seriously, you guys are off your game.
@Vezquex then go back to original mode. Perhaps they can look at user preferences for navigation on the roadmap for future release. Cut the devs some slack. They are doing an amazing job helping us drink out of a fire hose...
- tagami
I love the way people complain that this is not working, that is screwed. It's a beta and we're 'testing' it. They are called bugs and FF will fix them. :-) If you don't want to use something that isn't complete then don't use anything that is beta. :-D
- Kol Tregaskes
Please remember it is also completely reasonable that people comment on the beta. It's part of the reason for providing beta.
- ·[▪_▪]·
Yeah, but to lose faith in the FF devs because they made a change you don't like? Seems pretty silly.
- Jordan Hofker
On the surface it does seem a little silly. Though after i read some of the reasons for the decisions, i was discouraged too. A relatively drastic UI change to accommodate new users? How long are they going to be new? I understand the need to help new users quickly. Is there a better way? Claims of wide-screen usability issues? I have wide screens and loved the prior beta versus the new. It seems like their priorities are out of sync with mine so i'm not confident FF with be changing in ways i'll enjoy.
- ·[▪_▪]·
And the April 2009 beta fixes all of these problems!
- Vezquex: God of FF
We were just debating that today. We will likely start a new room so the conversations remain separate (and old messages don't look confusing). We will rename this one to reflect that it is "old."
- Bret Taylor
Anyone else seeing this? Everytime I add one person to a group, I have to delete these two.
- Mitchell Tsai
Bump [Thursday 8/28/08] Still seeing these two everytime I add someone to a group. Please help...
- Mitchell Tsai
Yup just found them in my one of my groups too. I swear I didn't add them myself. Something fishy going on here. The first thing I'm going to do is change my FF remote key.
- Andrew Perry
The realtime feed adds new entries and instantaneously shifts the older entries down. This is jarring, makes it difficult to read as new data flows by. Could this be animated to be smoother? I believe jQuery, for example, has ways to do a smooth transition animation.
What browser are you using, Denton? It should be a smooth transition, but we may have a bug in your browser version.
- Bret Taylor
Safari 3.1.2 on MacOS X 10.5.5, on a PowerPC mac (4 years old and very slow, if you disable the animation on machines incapable of handling it).
- DGentry
When I go into realtime mode the "New entries and comments appear in real time as they are posted" notification smoothly transitions the rest of the entries down. However the actual updates (feed items, likes/comments, etc) just abruptly jump the older items downward.
- DGentry
I only have the option to Hide All RSS (and now Custom RSS) feeds from a particular user. I generally only want to hide one specific feed. For example, one friend imports an RSS feed of subversion commits, which I want to hide, and his blog which I want to see.
When I edit a comment to a tweet, could there be a little note under it of whether the comment was also sent as a tweet? I realize it is impossible to go edit the already-sent tweet, I just forget whether I clicked the box to tweet it or not.
I would like a way to mark certain posts so they do not appear in my Public Feed. I don't mind having a public feed but just want not display certain posts to non-subscribers... OK, I don't wanna get my ass kicked for doing Memes at work :)
how would this work, exactly? like you could designate which of your subscribers would see public vs. private stuff? Or just that people who weren't on friendfeed at all couldn't see your private stuff?
- Laura Norvig
I set up a room to put things in that I don't want everyone to see. It asks every time you share something where you'd like to share it. If you're talking about individual automatic feeds, I guess there's no control. I can't see a way to make control over those, either. Just either put them in a feed or don't.
- Kamilah Gill
Maybe there should be a memes room ....
- Laura Norvig
I can't import my flickr account some reason. Because I add correct nickname and email everytime and it doesn't work! Is there problems in FF or is that just me? Is this problem cause that I have noting in my account..?
Did anyone already address the issue of logging onto two separate FriendFeed accounts at the same time? Useful for those of us with split personalities...
You can do that with Firefox. Download the IE Tab extension. Open one tab as Firefox and login to one account. Open another tab as an IE tab and login to the other account. I do this with another website and it works great.
- Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle. I do that as well with Safari. But when I switch to the other tab with the second account and try to add/edit/paste/link something on the tab with the original account, it takes me to the login screen... I'd like to be able to reshare links for example and do not want to make the two accounts friends of each other... so I have to do it manually
- Metin
Rochelle... Duh!!! I just got your point!! Log in under 2 separate operating systems... lol
- Metin
I don't think I'll run out and grab Boot Camp so I can do this... ;)
- Anthony Citrano
I think this will work if you want to stay with Firefox not IE. Run Firefox with "firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote", create a new profile and start, log in. With this, you must have two Firefox windows.
- Yu-Jie Lin
oh wow, that's a great suggestion rochelle! i never thought of that.
- Anika
Conversational request: don't make items die off so quickly. I hate that I can get involved in some really great conversations but then they are just summarily banished to the back room by your secret time-out filters. :)
I'd like to request that when I have hidden entries at the bottom of my page and I open it up to see what is hidden, there's a line that says *why* something was hidden. For example, "This is hidden because you're hiding all last.fm posts from User X" etc.
I'll often go look at hidden stuff and see something that is hidden down there and be confused as heck why something is hidden. This would help!
- Rochelle
Other than making your feed private, is there a way for (non-friends) to not be able to view the public feeds of your friends. Shoudn't they be my friend first?
I'd like to be able to hide posts from a user's specific blog, but see another. For example, if Bob has two blogs, I'd like to be able to hide all posts from Bob's First Blog but not hide entries from Bob's Second Blog.
Would it be possible to (1) time stamp and/or (2) number the comments? I would personally find that useful for tracking and discussing things. Just my two cents...
Hover your mouse over the comment bubble icon to view the timestamp
- Benjamin Golub
I am aware of that, but I was wondering if it was possible to have that information displayed "automatically" instead of hovering over it.
- Wobbler
And since I am throwing out some cents anyway: Would it also be possible to increase the character limit per comment BUT after the standard amount of characters, provide a "...more" feature so FF-ers have the option expand the comment if they think it is interesting enough? Might encourage some better/deeper discussions, which increases the attractiveness of FF? :)
- Wobbler
If the new item-posting dialogue is going to prepopulate the "http://" then for god's sake erase it when I focus the field. Nobody types into this field, everybody pastes, and the clipboard already includes the URL protocol.
hahahaha Peter, apt and succinct. But yes I disagree on both. I'd like to check out AJ Barac's cleaner friend feed but I only use Chrome now.
- Toby Graham
Clearly, all opinions are valid, they are opinions after all... but can you state your reasons why you don't like these?
- LogEx
Yup sorry bout that, there is already an icon next to each post. And RE the scrolling, you would prefer a cluttered and busy friend feed?
- Toby Graham
I can grok an avatar faster than I can grok a textual name - two little icons would tell me Who and What instantly. Plus, yes, I'd give up some white space for higher information density. For me, it's all about efficiency of scanning the feed.
- LogEx
I'm quite happy the way it is. To have an option to use the full width of your window would be nice but it's not a biggie.
- Kol Tregaskes
and they shouldn't appear more than once as we browse the pages
- Waldir
and also we should know how many pages there are, how many reccomendations, in which page are we, have links to the next and previous and first and last pages, be able to choose the number of items per page, etc.
- Waldir
