"I’ve been thinking a little bit about the syndication formats for microblogs lately, and I’m wondering if we might all agree upon some very simple conventions to integrate the various providers. Nothing profound here, just some simple ideas about how to get an easy win with existing technologies. Taking FriendFeed as the best current example of an aggregation site, I notice that the FriendFeed team has hand-coded various content providers, but they don’t have the same richness enabled for generic feeds." - DeWitt Clinton from Bookmarklet
Really interesting. I'm working on a post right now that illustrates this. Another thing they should pick up on are the outbound links from blog posts. Granted they're buried in the description of my post, but they don't have to be. These formats can evolve if we all decide to talk to each other and listen with respect, something that we haven't so far been willing to do. Just saying. Your post is a good step in the right direction. - Dave Winer
100% agreed that this should be implemented in friendfeed - Trent Olson
Well thought out and presented. It seems strange that audio files can be pulled in, but not images or videos. - Chris Nixon
FYI, we do pull out images and videos for entries that use Media RSS, but those tend to be video and photo sites (the spirit of the Media RSS format is that the post *is* a photo, as opposed to the use case highlighted here, where the picture is simply a thumbnail or accompanying a larger post). - Bret Taylor
@Bret - cool. I noted that on the post now. Thanks! - DeWitt Clinton
