This has been a request for a while. Personally, I think regardless of who has commented, we should be able to edit. If commenters are allowed to edit and delete any of their comments as they please, then the person writing the message should, too. - Mattie Kenny

But people can edit/delete their comments whenever they'd like even if it refers to another comment. I've had a situation where someone deleted all of their comments, so any made by me referring to that person's comments made no sense. It doesn't matter. Big deal, someone referenced a typo or a miscommunication in your message and then you edited it out. If someone's going to abuse the edit function, then they're probably a troll and you shouldn't follow them. Being able to edit things is not unfair to anyone. - Mattie Kenny

It doesn't matter. You should be able to edit whatever/however you like. If someone actually abuses that option, they're probably a troll. That distinction is up to each of us. This going into a meta conversation that isn't necessary. We should be able to edit our posts. Period. - Mattie Kenny
