I requested this about a week ago and got a positive response: "this is a good idea, and something we're definitely going to work on, hopefully soon!"
- Chris Anthony
Very nice. Thanks a bunch, Chris. :)

I think the hide function is more versatile, but it would be an improvement to be able to apply it to users.

Let's bring this to the top. We need a way to "hide" particular commentors or something. Don't know what the solution is...but it's starting to become necessary to filter out spammy or off-topic stuff.
- Ginger Makela Riker
@Ginger I agree- not had any problems personally but I'm noticing a few people starting to troll FriendFeed comments, knowing they're difficult to block. I'd like to block them before they sling any insults my way.
- Mike
It has gotten to the point that this is needed. I don't want to see comments by specific people or to enable them to comment on my content.
- Louis Gray
Definitely need granular controls for managing posts, comments and content within feeds, rooms, and whatever other FF features roll out soon. Must include ability to *block* users from a feed (user -or- room feed).

Paul added a block feature minus the UI on June 10; changelog entry: changeset: 99b21e104d14 user: paul date: 2008-06-10 14:09:07 description: blocking, minus ui. Full post: http://friendfeed.com/e...

Does it actually block people? Or just hide their posts and comments? When you click the 'block' link, the popup dialogue says "you won't see any of their posts or comments on FriendFeed and they won't see anything you post." So does that mean they can still post stuff (eg, comments) but you just don't see it any more? If so, this doesn't have much value.
- Neville Hobson
@Neville: I believe it keeps them from seeing your stuff, too, and prevents them from commenting on your items. It also mutually hides comments.
- Voyagerfan5761
@Voyagerfan5761, yes, the vice versa thing. But it's still not clear to me - can someone you've blocked still do things like write comments in your space but you just don't see those comments?
- Neville Hobson
@Neville: I don't know if there's actually a prevention against them commenting on your items. I know they won't see your stuff in the first place. I'm not sure how direct item links are handled. If a user you've blocked is taken directly to an item posted by you via a permalink, can they see it? I honestly haven't figured that one out.
- Voyagerfan5761
@Voyagerfan5761, perhaps it's one and the same: if they can't even see your content, how can they add comments to it? So I might be splitting hairs here. However, not seeing your content doesn't mean they can't leave comments to others' content in your space. What I'm keen to know is does blocking a user stop that user's comments, etc, to any content in your space? I'm wondering purely because I've had an experience with someone this past week who I've now been able to block. But is it really a block?
- Neville Hobson
@Neville: With respect to the blockee's comments, they're just hidden from your view. They can still comment on items from people to whom you've subscribed; you just won't see them.
- Voyagerfan5761
@Voyagerfan5761, thought that might be the case. I think the block feature really should be that: block. Including in Rooms. Maybe it's in the thinking for ongoing development. Hopefully!
- Neville Hobson
It would be nice to have an easy way to reveal any blocked comments in a coversation.

Please add a block link next to the subscribe link on the box that pops up when I mouse over a person's name.
