Two days away & i come back to the acquisition news. Don't know if this has already been discussed but what do you really think is going to happen to FF. I haven't been here long & i already value what i get from FF a lot. Are people seriously looking at alternatives or planning to stick around to see what happens in the near future?
Thats what i've been reading ... and i don't think i like it. i have no idea what that means for people like me who aren't on Facebook :( .... does this mean that i'll have to finally give in and create a Facebook account and build up what i have so far on friendfeed?
- Bhowmik Shah
FF will die a slow and painful death. I'm trying to decide where I should go next. Like many others here on FF, I don't like the close nature of Facebook.
- Edward Craddock
Edward: exactly what i feel .. i don't see the value i can get from Facebook (at the moment) and i am not a big fan of its closed nature.
- Bhowmik Shah
I think FF will become useless before facebook will kill it. In others words alternatives will be obvious at this time... hopefully ;)
- Stanislas Jourdan
I hope so too Stanislaus :) and the good news is that after the acquisition and the initial reaction FF is looking like its back to normal for the moment

Stampin' Up!? I Know You're Reading; Can We Reason Together? {I'm betting on a BIG LOSS for this backwards thinking Direct Sales Company} - http://cynthiaewer.com/stampin...
"I prefer to see something else happen: that Stampin' Up! go back to the drawing board and craft a careful, thoughtful policy that extends only to those areas where you have a legitimate business interest. I am talking about "subject matter", not mode of technology. Sure, I get it--you guys had your meetings, and it's no secret you're not exactly riding tech trends at the head of the pack. Letting the lawyers or the workshop-based sellers who are afraid of Internet competition set the tone, you decided to clamp down on EVERYTHING. And your interpretation is, you want to control ALL online presence, regardless of subject matter."

That's your mistake. By focusing on closing loopholes according to communication method--listing e-mail, message board posts, Twitter feeds and any other tech innovation or mode of communication--you ignored the fact that for most of us, "online communication" is used in many more arenas than just our Stampin' Up! side businesses. Now there's a firestorm of controversy. You didn't see...

"Why and How to Rank in Image Searches One aspect of search that doesn't get discussed often enough is image search. It's such a huge part of search and the daily habits of web surfers all over the world, it's amazing how little attention is actually paid to it when it comes to marketing and optimization."

"Leverage LinkedIn as part of your unified brand strategy When it comes to your personal brand, LinkedIn is only one piece of the puzzle. You’ll want to supplement LinkedIn with profiles on Facebook and Twitter, in addition to your own blog or website and profiles on industry specific social networks. Your LinkedIn profile should be consistent with your online presence, which means you should be using the same avatar, your full name and your personal branding statement."

"I was squinting at Friendfeed today, and I realized that it could really work nicely as a business collaboration tool in a few different ways. Between all the various aggregation points, and the “rooms” function, I think the platform has everyone one would need to cook up a collaboration environment. Here’s what I mean."

"Most people use this as a way to share a more enriched experience with friends and colleagues. But I think there’s a business opportunity in using the tool for collaborative business. Remember, Friendfeed can collect your status information, your presence, media from several sources, your bookmarks. There are many ways to use that. Here’s one set of use cases to consider for that purpose."

How to use Friendfeed in your social media strategy - 3) FriendFeed as peripheral vision - see what someone Stumbles, tags in Flickr, etc. - http://johnhaydon.com/2009...
Much of a blogger’s life is, well… their blog. FriendFeed allows you to catch the content a blogger creates on the periphery of their blog. For example, in addition to reading Chris Garrett’s blog (which I subscribe to by email), I can also see what Chris Stumbles, or tags in Flickr.

The FriendFeed Notifier is a desktop application that allows you to view your friends activity without having to visit FriendFeed.com. The moment a friend of yours bookmarks an article in Delicious, or reviews content in Stumbleupon, the FriendFeed desktop notifier window pops up. You can view, like and comment directly from the notification window - instantly.

Anybody know anything about MerchantCircle.com? I'm having some confusion and uncertainty about how that company deals with their member accounts. I'd like Feedback & chat with someone other than a company Rep.
I wish I can help you - I don't even know what it is. Anyone else?

They offer I guess an online presence for businesses where a business can have a website, offer coupons and such. They have "free" account options but it doesn't seem to be really "free" if that makes sense..
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
However, it's catching my attention because I'm noticing how a few people who are NOT active online in social media (like twitter, friendfeed, etc.) but only have a MerchantCircle website and one person in particular is ranked #1 in Google search results. So, I'm confused...

How to use Friendfeed in your social media strategy - 5) As a “pre-filtered” content source, and 6) As a relationship organizer - http://johnhaydon.com/2009...
Another way to enhance your professional and personal relationships is be a source of fresh and valuable information. FriendFeed’s cornerstone feature is that it allows folks to receive fresh content from the people that they know and trust. If Darren Rowse shares an interesting article on Photography, I know that that will be valuable content because he’s a trusted professional. In other words, social proof is built right in to the FriendFeed platform.

"STEP 1 (5 Minutes) Set Plan for Day. Before turning on your computer, sit down with a blank piece of paper and decide what will make this day highly successful. What can you realistically accomplish that will further your goals and allow you to leave at the end of the day feeling like you've been productive and successful? Write those things down. Now, most importantly, take your calendar and schedule those things into time slots, placing the hardest and most important items at the beginning of the day. And by the beginning of the day I mean, if possible, before even checking your email. If your entire list does not fit into your calendar, reprioritize your list. There is tremendous power in deciding when and where you are going to do something. In their book The Power of Full Engagement, Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz describe a study in which a group of women agreed to do a breast self-exam during a period of 30 days. 100% of those who said where and when they were going to do it...

STEP 2 (1 minute every hour) Refocus. Set your watch, phone, or computer to ring every hour. When it rings, take a deep breath, look at your list and ask yourself if you spent your last hour productively. Then look at your calendar and deliberately recommit to how you are going to use the next hour. Manage your day hour by hour. Don't let the hours manage you.
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
STEP 3 (5 minutes) Review. Shut off your computer and review your day. What worked? Where did you focus? Where did you get distracted? What did you learn that will help you be more productive tomorrow? The power of rituals is their predictability. You do the same thing in the same way over and over again. And so the outcome of a ritual is predictable too. If you choose your focus deliberately and wisely and consistently remind yourself of that focus, you will stay focused. It's simple."

I'm putting together this "video showcase" and would like to know if you think this is a good idea or bad idea. I'm not sure the music part of it "fits". I'm picking from Animoto's music collection. Not sure I know which would be a fitting music selection. I've made several videos with different music selections. The problem is that I can't find anybody to critique it and tell me what they think.

If there is no way of measuring the results from the advert, How do you know you are not just chucking your money away
- Guy McLaren
@Guy that's my point. I am writing an ebook on how tradition business, not using e-stuff, throw many away because they ignore measurements. Online we can measure. But off line, I get the feeling, that business advertise because they feel it's the right thing to do. What I want is for people like you to tell me why advertisers should measure ;-)

QUESTION: If I have a public group room that I want to show up in Google search results when someone types in the search term, how do I facilitate that happening? Do I post a lot of content and be active by posting or blogging in that group room every day?? (I don't know anything about seo and all those type of things).
Or maybe I should just ask - why or how do some pages or sites show up but not others?
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
I think if your keyword is part of the permalink (hover over the timestamp) then there's a greater chance it will be picked up. So it should occur within the first ... 10 words ?

"According to Wikipedia, coworking is an emerging trend for a new pattern for working. Typically work-at-home professionals or independent contractors or people who travel frequently end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space."

I'm trying to get team members to join FriendFeed as the MAIN collaboration and communication platform for us to use to run our Independent businesses, but I'm just not having luck getting the people here who would benefit tremendously by being here. Any ideas on how I can overcome this obstacle?
Not sure if you got the answer you were looking for but my business partners and I at the Secret Women's Business Network ( http://www.swbnetwork.com/blog... ) use FriendFeed as a collaboration tool as we are on three different continents. We have a private room where we do our collaboration and a public one http://friendfeed.com/swbnetw... where we share bits and pieces to the world. It really is fantastic as a communication and collaboration tool.

I'm in the same position. I have friends on my Yahoo Groups mailing list that would benefit being on FF (if any for the email features) but they are not interested. I'd prefer it as it will kick down my emails even more, ah well.

Jannifer I really believe we need (or rather I need) to stop trying to sell friendfeed or twitter or anything that's not email. We need to sell the concept.
