"Poking. Friending. De-friending. Messaging. Posting. Tagging. Liking. Ignoring. frog Senior Interaction Designer Kevin Hutchinson confesses that our social power is evolving due to our presence on online social networks because we are able to find, reach, and communicate with people at a greater speed. But with this new amplified social connectivity comes a new set of expectations for increased engagement. Social networking etiquette is still evolving and it can be difficult to decipher what is appropriate in this hyper-social online space. Hutchinson believes that, we as social creatures, should take some cues from other forms of communication. You wouldn’t text, call, or knock on someone’s door several times a day to tell them how much you enjoyed what they were reading, doing, or saying, so why comment or “like”, everything they post on their Facebook wall. Right? How does one create social boundaries on their networks and how do we not take it so, er, personally when someone does...

On August 10th, 2009 Facebook did something that thousands of people now hate them (or hate them more) for. Facebook bought Friendfeed for $55 million. Thus assuring the end to the best social networking site to date.

I created this group on Facebook for everyone who is on Facebook and is either sad or disgusted by the news that came out today about Facebook taking over Friendfeed. I know that it won't matter and we can't stop it, but at least we can have a place on Facebook to maybe make a stance and complain away from Friendfeed.

Just to let everyone know I plan on also using this group to chronological keep track from this day forward with whatever happens regrading all this.

Useful to inquiry some stats or show relationships, but not to discover content

they probably just crawl the database on a certain schedule. What is that schedule ffholic-ers?
- Laura Norvig
Are we talking about the user stats, and especially subscriber and subscription counts?
- Baris Seker
There are over 330k users to crawl and ff has API bandwidth restrictions, so we can't open up the flood gates all the way. We give precedence to higher ranked users, because their entries climb the charts much quicker. Currently, we're updating about 40k users in a day. On top of that, we're following 20k rooms, and the public feed.

“How many times a week do you check your stats on FFholic? Me personally, I do so usually once a day. I just like to see where it says I'm at activity wise.” - http://friendfeed.com/e...
I just logged on and hadn't visited in months. Lot of really neat folks are subscribed to me. More interested in who I am subscribed to. Not sure what activity points are though.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
activity points have to do with how often you like and comment. Very useful when you're looking at the "most popular" users, http://ffholic.com/Users... You can see that some of them, like Kevin Rose, are very inactive here - they just happen to have a lot of followers.
- Laura Norvig
Hmm, this thread was way back in October. I'm now the 960th most active user.

See Building43 later and see if you like how we embedded the friendfeed widget into wordpress. I also have done that over at http://scobleizer.com -- let me know if I can help.

Still trying to find my way around here. Just curious...does anyone reading this have MS? I do and would love to chat with others who may have this horrid disease.
How to give Admin rights? Hi fellows : I've got a question : I've created a (private) group to "chat" with friends. I'm the only administrator of that group, but I'd like some of those friends to be admin, as well. I'm pretty sure I've seen someday, somewhere that this action was possible... Could you show me the way back to this magic link? Thks!
