These are not spam, these people are not bots, they are decent friendfeed users, they just comment on friend's friend's posts to spread the word about the censorship in their country, which is for a good cause and not to sell puppies or direct to a page to earn some hit points. There is a difference.
- bluretina
it becomes spam when it crosses the line that resides in a grey area -- in my humble opinion some of it is comment spam (maybe most) but others may beg to differ
- Chris Heath
I think and support that posting comments redirecting to different and very unrelated subject and doing that on 100s of messages is definately spam.
- DenizEdincik [bluesign]
Agreed with Deniz. They support a honorable cause, but that doesnt make their spam messages acceptible.

http://friendfeed.com/fun-stu... that isn't a perfectly fine use of the content in question, but it's good enough for me to not consider spam... however, if you're posting it as a comment in an unrelated thread (even if the owner of the thread doesn't mind) it will be considered comment spam by onlookers and passers-by. maybe you don't care what other people think, but i think you should
- Chris Heath
interestingly (as you may have noticed) that was posted to the 'fun stuff' group - i'm guessing it was posted there for a wider audience than that persons subscribers only (which is kind of a spammy tactic, but i'll probably let that slide
- Chris Heath
I know that you are not a spammer, but your actions in regards to this turkey incident are the actions of a spammer.... so with respect to this one issue you are spamming - and i know you're trying to spread the word about this situation since it is important to you, but it makes you look like a spammer because you're acting like one
- Chris Heath
I also observed that as a spamming action by posting advertising comments under unrelated entries and reported it. http://ff.im/8nWWc
- whoea
Firat and lock, I totally understand your side - i'm trying to help you understand that you're harming your cause with these types of actions... there are many ways to get the word out, but some will turn people away -- please understand our side as well
- Chris Heath
deniztan, you turn people away is all i'm saying... i'm trying to help you be more effective with your 'activism' since to me it just seems like spam and i'm sure that i'm not the only one
- Chris Heath
obviously it's easier for me to not care about last.fm and myspace since i don't use either of them and i'm not turkish, but i obviously do care since i'm taking my time to try and help you not piss people off and turn them away from your cause (which you seem to be doing)
- Chris Heath
I agree that this was spam but YOBAZ, He wanted to tell you about an important issue in TR, WHAT THE HELL WILL YOU DO WHEN FRIENDFEED GETS BLOCKED BY SOME SoBS in TR?
- Triple C
friendfeed was blocked in iran during the election protests - there's alway proxies BY THE WAY (which is what you turks should be looking into)
- Chris Heath
Don't say me proxies or another handy thingies, WE WANT UNBLOCK! And this report is officially a Traitorism (Vatan Hainliği)!
- Triple C
There are nearly 1500 Turkish FF users. There is only ten people who thinks that this action is a spam (I counted!). It looks like a spam, but ti is definitely not. There is a content there. An obvious content. This is a political action focused on internet censorship. We just use social media to defend the essence of this media. We defend our community and it is a fundamental right. Nobody can define this action as a spam. Please be respectful to the essential culture of the Net. I hope not, but with this HADOPI winds, one day, you can need this kind of action too.
- Ozgur Uckan
I will block the owner of this report. Then I will not post another comment here. I hope, you guys will respect our fundamental rights. Respects.
- Ozgur Uckan
Last thing: I've just "report" this feed to my subscribers (http://ff.im/8oA0I). We will see what they think...
- Ozgur Uckan
Chris I completely understand your side. And I see how this looks. I even think that maybe the postings did go a bit far. But there are couple of things we need explain. First of all Turkey has a horrible history of banning websites. Unlike what happened in Iran, bannings are not short term but have been going on for years. Some of the banned sites are Youtube, Blogger, Google groups, Wordpress, Blogspot and there was talk to ban Facebook and Google as well. There are more than 3700 banned websites in Turkey. So, you can understand that it is no longer about proxies. It's a civil rights movement. These people were trying to get the message out there, and apparently they annoyed some people on the way. But, a small detail is that the person who cried spam, has in the past fought with the people he is complaining about. I don't personally know anyone here, and can only follow what they say on friendfeed, and it actually makes me sad to see how, instead of working for they're own good, people choose to attack others they have personal problems with. I also think that, instead of getting mad, the Turkish community should help the friendfeed team help them. I deeply hope that none of the accounts cited here get banned, and I hope that you can understand how passionate people are about this cause, and they, now and then can go a bit overboard. I don't think this was a case of spamming.

For my side, (as a owner of the http://friendfeed.com/sunipey... post) its not a spam. She is friend of me . She has every rights to write in my post as a comment.
- sunipeyk
OBVIOUSLY the blocking of websites by governments is wrong and i don't agree with it, ever. Is there some sort of solidarity action that you would request people can do to help your cause? Isn't Turkey a democracy as well, so in theory the solution would be to vote in new government, right?
- Chris Heath
@Chris What do you mean as new government? If the Prime Minister of the Turkey Republic says he can access a website blocked by his ministry and posted a video to there like http://www.youtube.com/watch... , THAT IS OXYMORON!
- Triple C
i'm not trying to argue with these guys ... i'm trying to figure out how their cause can be forwarded - and trying to help them realize that what happened here today is not the way to go about it (at least in my eyes) --- if the prime minister is on 'their side' & can't fix the problem then how can this problem be solved? what is this ministry? is it not democratic? can the turkish people not vote this ministry out?
- Chris Heath
Chris, we can't wait 2 years for shut the bulb down.
