I think I'll wait for Google Wave to actually come out of its Alpha 'Preview' release status before I drop the hammer on it. You haven't even seen a feature complete version of the product yet! Its pretty ambitious don't you think? I swear that soon you bloggers will want real unicorns delivered with every new app (no matter how many alpha/beta graphics are stamped on it) before you're satisfied. - Martin Koser

Looking Back at Google in 2009 - http://blogoscoped.com/archive...
“It is harder and harder for me to spot an IT sector in which Google does not offer products and services,” Mathias Schindler pondered in the forum, “Can you think of any IT sector where there is no Google product (yet)?” Competition has a tough time, unless they happen to get bought up by Google, not only because of Google’s cross-integration power, but also because it would take mindblowing budget to reproduce Google’s cloud server farm. Google after all arguably owns the world’s biggest super computer, one with an AI that becomes better and better with more data. But the giant is growing taller by the second, and I’m curious if there will be a couple of instances where we’ll see him stumble over his own feet in 2010. - Martin Koser

Tripping Words - The Philosophy of Design - http://www.trippingwords.com/index...
I do agree with you about creativity and design. I do believe that while they are not the same, they are closely related to each other. The dictionary defines creativity as “the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.” Design is “organization or structure of formal elements in a work of art; composition.” - Martin Koser

How to Brainstorm Brilliant Ideas for Your Blog | Copyblogger - http://www.copyblogger.com/brainst...
Brainstorming is one of the most powerful creative techniques ever devised. When used properly, it can produce more and better ideas than any other process. It’s based on the concept that two heads (or three, or four, or more) are better than one. Many would argue that you can’t create by committee. I agree. Writing and other creative acts are best performed by individuals. Creating by committee, well . . . sucks. But brainstorming is not about executing ideas. It’s simply about coming up with ideas. And it is almost always more productive as a group activity. The result of a brainstorming session should be a long list of potential ideas which you can evaluate at a later time, acting only on the best. - Martin Koser

The New Ecology of Things | Blog | design mind - http://designmind.frogdesign.com/blog...
Design thinking is a term — almost a mantra — that has resurfaced a lot lately. It has been especially poignant during this time of financial hardship, during which a number of traditional or conventional processes have been debunked and are being rethought altogether (let’s use it in a sentence: "Mr. Brown thinks that the publishing world could benefit from design thinking.") But others believe that design thinking has no basis unless it recognizes that the process is rooted in design-doing. - Martin Koser

5 Open Source companies that will rule the post-ERP world | MindTouch, Inc Blog - http://www.mindtouch.com/blog...
Proprietary ERP companies make connecting to ERP complex. Like Edison and Tesla, they don’t work well with competing systems. Conversely, open source is about unifying things. While today’s open source ERP systems are good, they haven’t reached the point where replacing your existing SAP or Oracle installation makes sense. Yet, in the next few years, the reduced cost and increased benefit of a cloud enabled open source ERP system will far outweigh the benefits of a closed proprietary system. - Martin Koser

Irving Wladawsky-Berger: Reflections on Surviving Disruptive Innovations - http://blog.irvingwb.com/blog...
As I was writing the blog, my personal experiences at IBM kept flashing through my mind, both our own near-death experience back in the early 1990s, and what we learned a few years later as we embraced the Internet and came up with the e-business market strategy, which played such a key role in helping to transform the business models and culture of the company. IT and media are clearly very different industries, but there are parallels from which perhaps we can learn. Let me discuss three such potential lessons. Lesson 1: If disruptive changes are inevitable, it is critical to start planning for the post-change future and take whatever actions are necessary to survive. - Martin Koser

Kolumne: IT vs BWL – „Zurück in deinen Keller du verstrahlter Nerd“ » t3n News - http://t3n.de/news...
hihi, ... - Martin Koser

Corporate Culture, Not Technology, Drives Online Collaboration - http://webworkerdaily.com/2009...
Culture is key to successful online collaboration and that is an element that is often times hard to capture in reports and surveys. Web workers seeking new opportunities need to seek prospective clients and employers where the corporate culture is more than just four walls and a cubicle farm and there is a strong track record of online collaboration and remote working already in place. - Martin Koser

Shrunken communication in distributed teams (the egg of communication :) — Mathemagenic - http://blog.mathemagenic.com/2009...
. Informal communication is still happens, especially in the goal-oriented space, but the chances for it are lower, because it’s extra taxing (e.g. questions that would be asked in a meeting may not get get asked in email or IM chat). For opportunity-driven communication it’s even worse: lack of shared physical space results in far less triggers that might turn into a conversation: there are not many non-essential activities (no drinking coffee online :), it’s more difficult to observe others and even goal-oriented communication mediated by technology tends to be more “on topic” (from my experience “social talk” at a face-to-face meeting happens much easier than in a phone conference or email exchange). - Martin Koser

Appreciate your observations about the tenor of so many workplaces today (and so short-sighted as that stress is so often self-defeating), and the import of attention to systems. My own observation as an executive coach and organizational consultant, is that the attention to Systems is missing for two prime reasons: 1. Most managers do not think systemically. They have not been trained to do so, and little in their life socialization natively prepares them to think this way. 2. The organizations most managers work in do not encourage a systems orientation. In fact, while some institutional proclamations talk about putting "the company's interest ahead of your own," or "doing the right thing for the team" and other, similar platitudes, their policies are exactly contradictory to this. Individuals are assessed for personal accomplishments, not contributions to the overall success of the organization. They compete for internal resources, rather than work cooperatively to leverage limit - Martin Koser
