FriendFeed and Twitter both need unfollower notifications.
no mike i dont want them to know when i have cut them off for not reciprocating. those i care about and/or interest me i stick with. those that cut me off, well...we shouldnt have been kool with eachother in the first place. - Carlos Ayala
and have my feelings crushed everytime I open my inbox? No thank you :P - Tim Hoeck
nah. For a while FF was mysteriously dropping lots of my contacts through what I assume was some sort of system glitch. I'd hate for those people to think I was dropping them for other reasons. I just went through all 4,000 of my contacts or so and reciprocated all of them back as the new beta makes it easier to add people 1,000 at a time. - Thomas Hawk
Nope. We should be on top of our follower list and not need notification. - Sally Robinson
I would enjoy getting notified when folks drop. Then could maybe find out why. - Todd Jordan
I haven't tried this but Tweeple Twak (I hate that name) will tell you who has unfollowed you on Twitter... http://tweepletwak.com - Mike Doeff
Adding unfollower notifications adds a whole new set of headaches in the popularity contest. Why did they unfollow you? Was it what you just posted? Or was it for something you said 4 weeks ago? Or was it because of a non-personal reason? Without knowing why they unfollowed you, it's just useless data that makes people less likely to handle their subscriptions in the way they want because they don't want to have to deal with the headaches of possibly having to explain to a person scorned why they unsubscribed from them. - Mark Trapp
Disagree. That will bring nothing but heartburn. - Vinay | विनय
...and 96 other people hated this. ;) - Josh Haley
Let anon unfollow alone. I'd get unfollow notifications with every 80s track I sent from Blip.fm to Twitter. - Bernie Goldbach
Carlos & Mark, I do see both sides of it. I personally would not care much if some one unsubscribed from me. The reasoning would not bother me at all. I do want to know though, this way I can unsubscribe back if need be. This is more of a dilemma for me on Twitter then on FF. - Mike Fruchter
@Mike, signed up for the beta. I am looking forward to testing it out. - Mike Fruchter
I have used Felix's FriendFeed venn to trim some subs on FF. I did not take it personal, I simply unsubscribed back :) - Mike Fruchter
I disagree as well since the word 'friend' is still being seen as being a friend, and letting someone know you're no longer interested in reading their tweets or notable links tends to sting some people. It causes drama not unlike LiveJournal. If someone doesn't want to follow me and they want me to know, they can tell me, but unless you're sucking on the SEO teat, it's not important to know when someone drops you. - brian alexander gray
Recently using Felix's script, I found 2-3 people that unsubscribed from me. I asked myself briefly what made them do it? Then I realized, who cares. I simply unsubscribed back. I should not need a tool for this, an email would be suffice. - Mike Fruchter
If people received an immediate notice everytime they lost followers, they may use that feedback to increase the quality of their postings over time. - Mike Fruchter
Or, the loss of followers may discourage them from posting at all. Not good for those new to the space. - Sally Robinson
See, I don't get this sort of stuff. Why would I care if someone unsubscribed from me? I am not a brand, or a product, I'm a person. If someone disagrees with my opinion, or otherwise finds my content dull, let them unsubscribe. More power to them. I don't need to know it, because I don't care. - Evan Sims
