"Daniel Russell stood in front of a crowd of investigative journalists in Boston last week and showed us this picture of a random skyscraper in an unknown city: Russell posed a riddle: What’s the phone number of the office where this picture was snapped? Let that sink in. He wasn’t asking for a phone number for the skyscraper in the picture, which sounds hard enough. He wanted the phone number of the precise office where the photographer was standing when the picture was taken."

"Nothing in that office was even in the photo. Yet in a few minutes, Russell, a research scientist at Google, revealed the answer by paying attention to small details and walking us through a series of smart Google searches. "Note: our entire series of posts about the Oatmeal v. Funnyjunk situation is now complied under the Oatmeal v. Funnyjunk tag. Background: our previous coverage of the epic and (epically ridiculous) battle between FunnyJunk attorney Charles Carreon and The Oatmeal can be found here: Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV. A few days ago I discussed a report — which proved true — that FunnyJunk's attorney Charles Carreon had sued Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal, IndieGoGo, and two charities in a fit of what can only be described as unbalanced, from-Hell's-heart-I-stab-at-thee pique."

Second, I'm not going to do anything that might help Charles Carreon, whose behavior in this matter is contemptible. So: you'll have to wait for motion practice to see the defendants' approach to issues of jurisdiction, standing, California's anti-SLAPP statute, and a...

Nope, Lnor. I'm going to keep going. I still have things to prove to myself - for myself, and also to know I' can be the person I want to be for him.

Having wowed much of the Eastern Hemisphere for years, 80-year-old world-renowned classical pianist (who is nearly deaf) Fuzjko Hemming has returned to the U.S. for a tour. Fuzjko (Ingrid Fuzjko Hemming) was born in Berlin to a Japanese pianist mother and a Swedish father. When Fuzjko was a child, her family relocated to Tokyo. By 16, she was hailed a child prodigy and made her concert debut at 17. She won numerous prestigious competitions and prizes. A portion of the proceeds from the 'Arigato Charity Concert' will go to the 2011 Japan Relief Fund for the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.

Mates of State is the organ and drums, vocal-laden duo of Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel. Starting in 1997, the duo relocated from the midwest to San Francisco, playing everywhere from Oakland parties to venues up and down the west coast. They've toured the US, Europe and Japan and by the looks of it, won't stop any time soon.

Amongst the other instruments he plays, singer/songwriter Andrew Bird is a concert-trained violinist who reveres the jazz masters, but does not imitate them. He explores various styles but will not noodle. Too modern to be classic, too classic to be modern, he produces a tight, early swing sound with saucy lyrics. His latest effort is 'Lonely Beast.'

"Thanks to my shamefully pathetic memory, I quickly forgot all of what I saw on the Serious Eats list and promptly started my own. It took all of two minutes to compile. And I sat and thought, and thought and thought, and I felt pretty happy with what I came up with; I truly can rattle off my 13 top favorites quite quickly. After looking back at the Serious Eats list, there was only one style of cheese that I think I missed on the list, and that'd be some sort of bloomy-rinded, brie-style cheese. Whoops. Think of this as a sort of CliffsNotes, a starting point for where to begin if you want to learn more about cheese. It's what I'd consider my desert island cheese list, that is, the not-to-be-missed essentials. (Though a desert island with a whopping selection of 13 cheeses sounds like anything but a desperate situation.) And take the list with a grain of salt. It's my for-what-it's-worth compilation of favorites after seven years of working with cheese. They're some of the cheeses...

Okay, FFers, I'm telling this social network first because I'm not ready to tell others yet. Anyway, due to many reasons, especially the fact that I'm stuck in my life and need to find a career path, I'm moving back to Norther VA at the end of July. I see it as a regrouping and it's temporary. This has been a hard decision, but it needed to happen.
It's taken me months to get to this point. I've lived here for 8 years. I survived a massive bipolar episode last year and got back to work. This is my decision. I can't keep living on stop-gap jobs. I'm 31 and need to figure out a plan and I can't financially do that here. I'm very conflicted about it and I've cried a lot. This is my home, where my friends are, where I've found a...

My one fear is that my friends are here and I HATE making new friends. I have a plane-full of baggage and I'm scared of new relationships.

I'm sorry, Lis. New beginnings can he hard. Can you email any theatres in the area you're moving to and see if you can make any connections in advance of you arriving? You may be able to get career leads and make friends in advance, that may be less scary because you share a common passion right off the bat.

good luck Lis hope everythig works out in your favor.

All change can be overwhelming. It takes some of us longer to get to where we want to be but if you stop thinking about years in advance and just take care of yourself now, it'll work out. Hang in there!

I can appreciate what you have been going through. Uprooting yourself is very difficult, especially with the health issues that you and I share. It takes courage to confront the fact that your current situation isn't healthy for you in the long run, because complacency and inertia are pernicious. They can become our worst enemies. Good for you, and good luck.
