She's a f*ing idiot. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine at an ad agency, who accidentally texted "my boss is a fucking cunt" ... to her boss. She didn't get fired or reprimanded, but she freaked out about it.

It floors me how much people openly vent about their jobs on public feeds like FriendFeed. Even if your boss isn't a direct contact, how are people so sure that a boss or co-worker won't stumble across it?

If I have complaints about work, I try to mask them as much as possible or make them more about me personally than the job itself. At the same time, I really try to stay mum about any job I have..

+1 Anika. I generally refrain from talking bad about my employer/coworkers ANYWHERE online. Even on anonymous accounts. You just never know who might freak out and file an unmasking court order. It's happened before.

Well that was a bit dumb. The thing about social media is it's just so much a part of our lives. We are encouraged to pour our views and feelings into it but we have to remember who is going to be reading it. In the end we have to censor ourselves so as a result our lifestream is a watered down stream. There are no directors cuts.

Interestingly, every time I consider complaining about my job via any social media platform, I stop and think "how can I make my job better? how can I improve myself?" and then end up writing about that instead. It has made me a much happier person. Really.

I think there is a serious point here: Your on-line social network pals will be supportive of you regardless of whether you are right or wrong. That's what friends are for, kind of. All the boss does is let in a bit of reality.

Arleen, 10,000 keyword phrases times 20 is a tiny fraction of the search terms that are worth optimizing for. Think of the long tail. Also, consider lots of webmasters and even publishers / site owners / bloggers / Web developers ... SEO experts who are able to optimize their stuff quite successfully but don't sell or publish their expertise. Many of them, and even many SEO consultants, do make sensible use of social media, as plain users.

Gord, in a social media spammer's book 2 hours of outage, IOW 2 hours w/o sales from sneakily distributed links to questionable sales pitches, can sum up to way more than a good day's beer money. ;) However, "crisis" might be a term too strong for this potential loss.

I'm not kosher, but I'm serious about the difference with kosher chicken... we have a shortage of kosher meat in upstate new york. We were always buying bel and evans chicken when the kosher stuff was gone. we just started ordering our kosher chickens to the house. I can't tell you why... it makes no sense at all... but kosher chicken just makes better chicken soup. it is that salt probably. but I'm not sure. I know I sound elitist when I say it... but I'm not asking you to be kosher... just taste test

I think Google Docs is the most straightforward, and integrates with my Google Apps. They need CRM and project management components, though. Zoho has a decent CRM but email integration has been promised but not delivered for a long, long time. Although much maligned, I still gravitate back to Entourage's project center for linking email, calendar events, tasks, files, etc. Will Office or Google add online CRM and project management first?

Zoho is a real mixture of styles around a central theme, gproducts tend to do the same thing but its a lesser impact theme - definitely a google style to the apps and products. Zoho seems to try to achieve more style and miss, google is minimal but i suppose they can if part of the brand is the simplicity - whitespace as a brand guideline

Holden: I was merely referring to the design aspect. If you compare a few of Zoho's offerings on one side and Google Docs and Microsoft Office on the other, I think you might get the picture then. You are right that Zoho has done a lot with Google Gears than Google itself has, and that is something I already commended them for earlier, but my point is that there isn't much innovation from the UI part to enhance user experience, which is where Zoho lacks.

@scobleizer is there any way you can convince the friendfeed guys to create a simple replies feature (so I know when someone replies to a post) and/or threading (which I realize is significantly more complex than a simple reply view). This is a huge part of why people use and stick with Twitter. I doubt the shortcode/SMS is still a major factor.

imho, threading is the way to go. Just like Jaiku does it and has always done it. Dunno why this is still missing from FF. And please don't bash Leo, Jaiku has been better made than Twitter, more features (but all made sense, no useless crap) and the threading. It just worked, and there was nothing big missing UI/UX-wise. Until google decided it doesn't care about microblogging, that is.

The idea of science is to continually examine theories as new facts come to light, reinforcing or contradicting the existing theory, and proposing new theories or alterations that fit the new and existing facts. Darwin's theory is no different than Newton, Einstein et al in this respect.

Okay, I'm gonna be the voice of dissension here and tell you that I hope Digsby never gets released for Mac OS X. It looks like dog shit on Windows (and please, don't bring up the craptacular skins). I don't think design is a part of their ethos. There's little wrong with Adium, or Pidgin / Miranda for Windows.
