El. Oh. El. You gotta be some sort of stupid to friend your boss before your probation period is up. Fired in front of friends and family? PRICELESS.
- Admiral Anika
She's a f*ing idiot. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine at an ad agency, who accidentally texted "my boss is a fucking cunt" ... to her boss. She didn't get fired or reprimanded, but she freaked out about it.
- LANjackal
It floors me how much people openly vent about their jobs on public feeds like FriendFeed. Even if your boss isn't a direct contact, how are people so sure that a boss or co-worker won't stumble across it?
- Mike Doeff
from iPhone
If I have complaints about work, I try to mask them as much as possible or make them more about me personally than the job itself. At the same time, I really try to stay mum about any job I have..
- Jon, the Chilled Beartato
Mike and how are you so sure that other people don't know who you are talking about? There's a person here on FriendFeed who complains about their coworker. Even though I live in a different city, I know that coworker.
- Admiral Anika
+1 Anika. I generally refrain from talking bad about my employer/coworkers ANYWHERE online. Even on anonymous accounts. You just never know who might freak out and file an unmasking court order. It's happened before.
- LANjackal
from IM
It also doesn't matter if anyone sees it when you write it, because The Google sees it and records it for anyone looking for it years from now.
- Trish R
Maybe the more general rule that comes into play here is to never say anything about someone you wouldn't tell them to their face.
- Ken Sheppardson
What an idiot... When people claim we don't need guidelines for employees using social media, I just have to point out cases of extreme stupidity like this...
- Badger Gravling
Ouch! Hope she learned the lesson. And +1 Ken, this is the simplest rule not to forget at any point.
- lelapin
Well someone has to make room for other people! From the sounds of it, she was probably already canned anyway.
- Robert Fisher
Well that was a bit dumb. The thing about social media is it's just so much a part of our lives. We are encouraged to pour our views and feelings into it but we have to remember who is going to be reading it. In the end we have to censor ourselves so as a result our lifestream is a watered down stream. There are no directors cuts.
- Parvez Halim
Interestingly, every time I consider complaining about my job via any social media platform, I stop and think "how can I make my job better? how can I improve myself?" and then end up writing about that instead. It has made me a much happier person. Really.
- mike fabio
.. and that's why I'm private. I'm pretty good about not talking about work, but never know when I may say something completely stupid
- Rodfather
I think there is a serious point here: Your on-line social network pals will be supportive of you regardless of whether you are right or wrong. That's what friends are for, kind of. All the boss does is let in a bit of reality.
- sjjh
Maybe she wanted to be fired by her boss? Just questioning...
- Torsten Eckert
Splendid. Too bad the story isn't real. OR IS IT...?
- Francesco Balducci
I do so love the false sense of anonymity the Internet instills in people.
- matthew john ernisse
Where did you get this? I'm trying to verify that it is actually a real event. Looks too 'perfect' and to generate this much hype I believe it is just two friends that wanted to laugh about how stupid the world is...

I need serious help with FF. For an idiot like me this isn't so intuitive really. Help section is nice but I need someone to hold my hand ..bleeech. Don't get me wrong I am sorry I was reluctant to try FF before

I blame Scoble. It's always his fault :-)
- Keith Barrett
but how am I going to tell the world I need a cup of tea???? nooooooo
- Rachel Clarke
Giorgio - I'm seeing some activity through the Twitter API, too (that's what TweetDeck uses, I believe); not a lot, but some
- Robert J Taylor
I thought it was just my connection. ;-) I'm also having problems with Facebook today.
- Timothy Federwitz
yeah, it seems the web interface is down but the api is working..
- Giorgio
I think the social media experts are going to spend the next hour talking about Twitter being down
- Keith Barrett
Scoble's followers where the glue keeping Twitter together! now that he's 'pulled the pin' and released them all, Twitter has fallen down and can't get up.

Seems to me like some sort of an (DDoS) attack on Twitter and Facebook.

I'm so lost this morning without my cup-o-Twitter

You broke it Bob! All this follow/unfollow madness.
- ZuDfunck
They'll comment on it, much like I just did.
- Marlin Forbes
Yiorgas: read a book for a change? I do that anyway, but only about 10/month. need more twitter time to balance it out
- Rachel Clarke
Facebook is copying twitter too closely...even to going down at the same time
- Robert Littlejohn
Does Twitter have what it takes to be a big player? We've been working with their API on a project and every time there is something out of whack. Anyone else have the same issues?
- Chris Nadeau
twitter is really down, I think twitter itself should have a site that tweets when it's down :)
- Ata İsmet Özçelik
They will use FF to inform their friend that twitter is down
- Didier Girard
This is very interesting that it is impacting more than one social network ... can't even speculate what the cause is yet. Not getting much work done today I'm afraid, going to be following these conversations..

This kind of reminds me of a line from Office Space: "I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. Shit. I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail."

Could this mean that CNBC was right??? Nooooooooooo!
- Travis Koger
I was planning to unfollow a bunch of followers due to Twitter's follow limit rule kicking in at the ~#2000 user level. I have to wait with that then... ;)
- Martin Lindeskog
Twitter being down is a a relief to me this morning! Now I can stay OFF it rather than fitting it into every 30 second change of task! n
- Arleen Anderson
at this rate they will have to start sending out junk mail via the post office again... oh the humanity

was afraid for a moment that out IT blocked all social networks or something horrible like that. Thank god FF came back up quickly. This might have gotten me to use FF more. I often neglect it.
- Ryan Cummins
Wondered why tweetdeck wasn't loading anything. actually got some programming work done. lol
- Justin Long
twits will move, but only until twitter is back online, then there will be a mass exodus. Remember during all of the 2007/2008 fail whales users still flocked back to it regardless.

I think this is bigger than Twitter and FB... I think it's some interweb routes or something. - Phil Harrison
What will the blackhat SEO experts, the SM spammers, and the social media experts do during a widespread outage? The answer is obvious: While sitting out the crisis they're fine-tuning their methodology. Seriously, your question offends me. There's a gazillion of SEO experts out there who do not abuse social media.
- Sebastian
Sebastian there can't be a gazillion SEO experts! What's 10,000 keywords times 20?? (and that's being generous!)
- Arleen Anderson
Would a social media expert consider it to be a crisis? If they rely so heavily on just one or two tools that it's enough to throw them into a tizzy, their expert status would seem to me to be ... questionable, at best.
- Gord McLeod
Arleen, 10,000 keyword phrases times 20 is a tiny fraction of the search terms that are worth optimizing for. Think of the long tail. Also, consider lots of webmasters and even publishers / site owners / bloggers / Web developers ... SEO experts who are able to optimize their stuff quite successfully but don't sell or publish their expertise. Many of them, and even many SEO consultants, do make sensible use of social media, as plain users.
- Sebastian
Gord, in a social media spammer's book 2 hours of outage, IOW 2 hours w/o sales from sneakily distributed links to questionable sales pitches, can sum up to way more than a good day's beer money. ;) However, "crisis" might be a term too strong for this potential loss.
- Sebastian
Arleen: yes, reading this is fun. Sebastien SEO types are so easy to wind up. ;-)
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Gotta love it... @RobCairns says "come to Friend Feed? Not" and then his page shows ONE POST from Twitter in the past 18 hours! And that one talks about how Twitter seems to be slowing down again! (Sorry Rob, but that's just too good to let pass!)
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Robert, admit it, you broke Twitter by massively unfollowing people. The DDoS attack reports have just been a ruse to cover up the fact that you were the backbone of Twitter all this time.
- Louis Trapani
Keep running into the wall a few times then find alternate outlets such as ff, linkedIn, etc...
- Kirsten Mitchell
from iPhone
Looks like the devious plan to move everyone to FF is working well. LOL :)
- Geer
Ha! The whole Facebook Twitter slowdown may have been just people clicking on spam (not a DDoS botnet). How funny! Manual DDoS. See Bill Woodcock's theory at CNet, AP, SF Gate, and The Register http://ff.im/6gLmO
- Mitchell Tsai
There you go again implying the only ones that use twitter is SEO experts, the celebrities, the spammers, the bots, and the social media experts - This is definitely SPIN. Perhaps you should join CNN also LOL
- RetiredTeacherD
Ironic, given your status as a celebrity social media expert who constantly spams about bots... :-P

Can't access Twitter in NL either. Over to Friendfeed!
- Samuel Driessen
@Sydney I rather like FriendFeed, there's just more people on Twitter for me, it drives WAY more traffic, and it's RARE good discussions evolve here from anyone other than POWER users.
- Ryan Stephens
love how we all pop over here when twitter is down ;)
- Kate
Ryan: how do you have discussions on twitter? I'll agree that they are rare.
- Johnny
Johnny: I have more discussions b/c my friends engage more there...of course harder to follow and usually include only 2-4 people. I LOVE the threaded comments here, provided a group of intelligent people were chatting, but how often does that happen? Sometimes with people like Scoble, Owyang and Louis Gray? (that's been my experience anyway.)
- Ryan Stephens
Ryan: I don't think it's fair to assume that there is a lack of intelligent conversation on friendfeed, especially with your 12 comments and 2 likes which tells me you've never really tried it out.
- Johnny
I was not fully awake trying to bring up the Twitter page. Good to know it wasn't just me.
- RuthNH
Ryan: I'd be happy to build you a list of friendfeed users and send them to you later today

@johnny I'd love to see that list, I'm going to sit down with friendfeed this weekend and figure it out
- Sydney Owen
Well, you mean in general or just the current outage? ;)
- Mads Kristiansen
Sydney: Subscribe to Kol (http://friendfeed.com/koltreg...) He is a very active user on friendfeed and already has a recommendation list. I'd be happy to create an additional one for you as well.
- Johnny
.. Scoble must have run his script again, I guess.. ;)
- Mads Kristiansen
Johnny: That's completely fair. I've lurked a lot & have read a lot of Louis Gray's, Scoble's and Valeria Maltoni's insights with respect to FriendFeed. You're right, maybe I'm not following the right people. And I didn't necessarily mean to imply there was a lack of intelligent conversation. It's just rare that I've seen these discussions develop from anyone's comments aside from a few power users. I'd be grateful for a list of users.
- Ryan Stephens
I heard from someone that Twitter doesn't even know why it's down.
- Paul Chaney
Ryan: I'll subscribe to you and get you a list in the near future. This conversation that you are engaging in right now happens with the majority of users (not just power users).
- Johnny
Yep, Twitter is still not working out here on the east coast @ 10:07am.
- Dion Hinchcliffe
Facebook and Twitter are getting slammed. But internetpulse.net indicates the Internet is humming along.

I'm blaming Jeff Elder for breaking the Twitterz in the Charlotte area, because he wrote a column about how it was good for listening for businesses. http://bit.ly/ospIC
- Andria Krewson

Johnny: But how often does it start from someone's message that's not a 'power user' ? How often does someone following 100, have a 100 followers end up with conversations like this off of one of there comments?

Baby Link (Legend of Zelda) outfit! This is pretty damn cool. Visit Craftster to check out more pics of the outfit and a totally rad baby blanket with the Tri-force on it. More geekery for the future kids… (via Joystiq) - http://agentmlovestacos.tumblr.com/post...
I'm not kosher, but I'm serious about the difference with kosher chicken... we have a shortage of kosher meat in upstate new york. We were always buying bel and evans chicken when the kosher stuff was gone. we just started ordering our kosher chickens to the house. I can't tell you why... it makes no sense at all... but kosher chicken just makes better chicken soup. it is that salt probably. but I'm not sure. I know I sound elitist when I say it... but I'm not asking you to be kosher... just taste test
- Noah David Simon
It is happening again, and it has got to stop this instant! I am making an effort to eat more sensibly to lose a few pounds. I realize there are different time zones involved, but most every evening after I've eaten my dinner, I sit here to have some chill time, and I get bombarded with food pics, which then get discussed. I then head for the refrigerator around 10pm for late evening snacks. It's all YOUR fault, do you hear?
- Ian May
jlt, this particular recipe actually calls for a little bit of vinegar. You might want to check it out, the link's above. Noah, when I make soup I only use Kosher salt and sea salt. And you're right, it definitely makes a difference.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, I posted the recipe in the low carb room - it fits low carb criteria...I am an awful soup maker but will try this as it looks so darn good!
- Janet
my best friend is a Yemenite Jew. in Yemen they add Tumeric and a bit of curry to the soup. (also makes it more yellow which is appealing to the eyes)... it is yummy!
- Noah David Simon
Tumeric is great for adding color (works to dye paper too). I don't have any, but I do have some sweet curry. Might have to make some soup and try it. Thanks!
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
*putting back of hand on monitor to check its temperature* There, there, FF.

Julio, that looks yummy!!! Sometimes I go to a restaurant here for a chicken & rice soup that looks like a cross between our two posts: chicken broth, rice, chicken, pico de gallo, and sliced avocado with lime juice squeezed on top.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
*bump* FF is feeling poorly again today, so I'm reoffering the chicken soup and hot toddie from November. Get well soon, FF!!

No matter how many new features Zoho adds to its products, I will never use it because its the ugliest of all web office suites. Agree or disagree? http://www.zoho.com/index.html
GE chose Zoho. Draw your own conclusions. Prefer MSO on this end, but that's just me
- LANjackal
Disagree. I agree it doesn't look very sexy, but it works and is free.
- Rutger Blom
Totally disagree. It's clean looking to me. And way better at integration that Google Docs. I can do so much more with Zoho. Best part? If you have a problem, it's usually fixed within a day. I'm *still* waiting for someone from Google to respond to an issue from 2 years ago.
- Admiral Anika
No that would be unfair since no one has gotten their hands on it yet. In any case, MS says the UI should be the same as Office's desktop apps. If that's the case, it's got my vote for sure
- LANjackal
from IM
... if they can pull it off while keeping the app responsive and snappy, that is
- LANjackal
from IM
wow, i completely disagree with you guys regarding microsoft office online...I feel like Microsoft have still not got the desktop version right, we're going to be years off anything half decent for the web app versions.
- Zee.
i just think its still full of bugs, hard to get what you actually want done done...if you check out Apple's iwork, that's much closer to a decent word processing app
- Zee.
I used to love Zoho, but then it started acting up a little -- some mysterious bugs, some revisions disappearing, some trouble accessing data -- and I gave up on it. This was probably a year and a half ago. Sounds like maybe those problems are fixed.
- Nathan Rein
Yeah, same @Chris, but i agree its not the prettiest of apps
- Zee.
Zee: You definitely don't have to like MS Office, use what you want. But I'm curious as to exactly what "bugs" you're referring to. There are many criticisms of MS Office, but "buggy" isn't usually one of them. Could you elaborate?
- LANjackal
from IM
I vote for Office Web - don't write off almost 20 years of UI learnings too quickly.
- Daniel Lizio-Katzen
LAN sure, but am on my iPhone at the moment. Will respond properly when back on my comp

from iPhone
can someone name an ATTRACTIVE online office suite?I use Google Docs just by default. I admit Office 2010 intirigues but I don't expect much from MS.
- Leo Laporte
from BuddyFeed
I give GDocs props for its simple interface, at least
- LANjackal
from IM
Agree. Buzzword is nice, but has no desktop version.
- Zachary TG
I prefer ThinkFree to either ZoHo or GoogleDocs. Better roundtrip w/MSFT, smarter featureset.
- Merredith Branscombe
I think Google Docs is the most straightforward, and integrates with my Google Apps. They need CRM and project management components, though. Zoho has a decent CRM but email integration has been promised but not delivered for a long, long time. Although much maligned, I still gravitate back to Entourage's project center for linking email, calendar events, tasks, files, etc. Will Office or Google add online CRM and project management first?
- Steve Wright
I like Zoho--it's good and fast for certain specific tasks. Makes it incredibly easy to deploy a simple db online quickly, for instance. I'm a fan.
- Kathy Fitch
I think the children's builiding blocks image is . . .. childish. Google Apps . . . stark.
- Jim Adams
Zoho is a real mixture of styles around a central theme, gproducts tend to do the same thing but its a lesser impact theme - definitely a google style to the apps and products. Zoho seems to try to achieve more style and miss, google is minimal but i suppose they can if part of the brand is the simplicity - whitespace as a brand guideline
- pjeedai
I wouldn't call Zoho ugly, or even cluttered. It feels like you are using Office imo. Can't wait for the upcoming Google Docs redesign though!
- Tomy Thomson
Damn! You hit the hammer right on the spot. Zoho is like a big rip-off of Google products. Although, I do have to say that it has been technically implemented well.
- Rohit
Zee - I happen to disagree. BUT, that's just me. That said, I'd love to hear your thoughts about how do you think it'd look better. Rodrigo / Zoho
- Rodrigo Vaca
Disagree!!! and disagree more. GDocs is amateur as far as UI is concerned; Zoho might not be "IT" but is it waaay better and have nice and more features than any other web-tools with this level of elegance
- Ashish Tiwari
If Zoho is the ugliest, what web office suite looks better? Definitely not Google Docs.
- Dusty Edenfield
@Dusty, i definitely think Google Docs looks better...but yeah, above all is Buzzword.com
- Zee.
Ok. Forgot about Buzzword. They've got it as far as design. How about features though? Last I checked they were behind Zoho.
- Dusty Edenfield
I prefer Zoho to all other office suites.
- Ivan Pavlov
Strongly Agree. ..though I've only used the 'Notes' feature.
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
disagree. I uses google docs because it's well connected with gmail. but I don't think Zoho is ugly.
- Orli Yakuel
I am used to using Google Docs, so I find that Zoho does not feel right to me. I almost think it is too cluttered. If I wanted all that I would just use Word (which I do regularly). Offisync really helps for a combo Word/gDocs user.
- Sean Brady
@Steve Wright, We just announced the Zoho CRM-Mail integration - http://bit.ly/1AS0th. Arvind / Zoho
- Arvind
Holden: I was merely referring to the design aspect. If you compare a few of Zoho's offerings on one side and Google Docs and Microsoft Office on the other, I think you might get the picture then. You are right that Zoho has done a lot with Google Gears than Google itself has, and that is something I already commended them for earlier, but my point is that there isn't much innovation from the UI part to enhance user experience, which is where Zoho lacks.
- Rohit
Totally disagree, Zoho is by far better than its competitors, Not only its brilliant interface, but also its various applications are amazing.
- Tardid
Everybody Knows: You can't be all things to all people. You can't do all things at once. You can't do all things equally well. You can't do all things better than everyone else. "You" applies to Zoho as well. Continue rocking "You"....
- Francis.K.Ruben
this is what you see when you login at zoho.com "You are logged into Zoho. You can select the service you need from the list below, or visit https://personal.zoho.com to start." what i understood/expected after looking at personal.zoho.com is a page like iGoogle or netvibes kinda page but the link redirected me to business,zoho.com which is nothing but viewing whole app in an iframe and...
- naveen
I really didn't like the Zoho.com page it looks really amateur and i haven't seen a site where block heading center aligned and in a serif font, smaller than contents. Looks like some school kid designed the site. Blue ball like bullet points really SUCKS!!! Twitter and Facebook logos are as big as company logo and untitled press/customer testimonial column. Different fonts and very early 90's look
- naveen
LMAO @Naveen. Those products most certainly do not do the same thing as evidenced by their names. Planner is entirely different that Projects. That's like saying Notepad is the same as PowerPoint.
- Admiral Anika
disagree, Zoho is much better than Google Docs, just doesn't have the PR/name recognition of Google!
- Brian
from BuddyFeed
@LAMO what i'm trying to say is if they integrate all those Almost same but different apps as one it will be a killer and can give options to user to turn-on/off few features.
- naveen
I heard that some developer designed www.zoho.com not a designer though they have a lead designer who don't have any clue whats going on....
- naveen
update: lead designer + manager (who ever reviewed the design) = amateur

OUCH! The So You Think You Can Dance auditions are always good for at least a couple of these. :) I need to find out when that's starting up again...or I could just calculate based on how many more weeks of American Idol there are, I guess.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Makes it look like he never practiced at all! At least he'll get his 15 minutes of fame, though I'm imagining he didn't want that kind.
- Michael Turner
Trying to figure out how to get animated gifs in my feed so I can get rid of all those pesky followers.
- Hayes Haugen
Nothing better then an animated faceplant
- Will Higgins™
ouch ! :-/ do you know what happened after ? did he break his face? well... that would have been an appropriate move for "break" dance =P lol
- AyDi şeker
I hate watching these videos because I keep wondering what happened after, what was the damage!!.. Damn it there is no point in watching if you dont know the result.
- denizoktar
I think the battle of what service is "better" has effectively already concluded. Now, Twitter can use its mass muscle and do whatever they like. What a blunder.
- Louis Gray
I'm hoping this kind of nonsense will bring more people over to FF.
- Michael McKean
annoys me that I might have to get used to using friendfeed. I know you love it scoble but I have long preferred twitter
- Clint
Twitter's response: http://twitter.com/dougw... and http://twitter.com/al3x... (at least that's what I think the last one is about).I replied to @dougw: What they're really saying is "i don't know about this OR i don't understand this OR i don't need this." hence the @techcrunch piece. maybe "i don't understand this" is a good reason for taking the feature away (i disagree), but that is @jasonkincaid's point, no?
- Guan Yang
Andrew: except that friendfeed has FAR better friend management. FAR better search. FAR better feature set (wait until you start using feeds and saved searches). And a FAR better community (very little spam and almost no assholes except for me. Heheh).
- Robert Scoble
Ev's just replied they're considering alternatives. That was quick.
- Sameer
@Robert Scoble: +5 You scored a bounty with that last comment
- David Damore
I really dug seeing my friends interact with other people. I'm really irritated that the feature is gone just because people "might" not understand it. Sounds like the retards I contract with at the moment.
- Jon, the Chilled Beartato
They should just have left it the way it was: let the user decide if he wants to view those @s or not. There is no need to be "considering alternatives".
- 321
Robert I just posted on my blog about this http://bit.ly/NbBFs ... I agree it probably helps friendfeed but I would like to see Twitter handle this snafu with a little more grace than facebook has handled similar situations. It gives Twitter the opportunity to shine in a way. They can shine by listening.
- Jesse Newhart
@Jesse Newhart: Did you see the last tweet from @ev? "Reading people's thoughts on the replies issue. We're considering alternatives. Thanks for your feedback." http://twitter.com/ev
- David Damore
321 has a good point. This feature wasn't broke to begin with. They gave users the choice to change the @reply options and explained it well when you tried to figure it out.
- Jon, the Chilled Beartato
Scoble, step away from the ff coolaid! Do you want to repeat the great Leo laporte jaiku debarcle?
- Darryl Adams
from Nambu
David aka admore yes I saw that thanks. Doesn't mean we should stop posting about it just because Ev is 'considering alternatives'. :p
- Jesse Newhart
Don't piss off the Twitter community.
- Adam Reyher
Friendfeed seems much more friendly to me! Love the conversations. Way easier to follow threads. Think I'll start hanging out here with y'all.
- Ruth Helfinstein
321 hit is on the head... maybe he should change is name to 123 cause of how simple of a solution that would have been for the boys down and Twitterless. And where were they getting their data from that this was something users desired? I can't see too many people other than the really fickle or those that don't "get" twitter needing to remove replies?! Perfect push I needed to come to the friendlier feeds :)
- iamkhayyam
Twitter execs just borrowed the Facebook asshat and firmly donned it for themselves.
- Scott Schablow
I have my FF settings to publish all my "likes" and comments to twitter - hoping twitterers who would like to have actual conversations will wake up and come over here.
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
the day i question the @geekadvancement & @shiralazar about treading the fine line of exploiting and /or embracing the geek culture, twitter decides to disable @ replies. @wilw's blog puts it into perspective.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
To remove an option completely is a dimwit thing. #fixreplies
- Jacque
I agree, when I saw that I hopped over to FF again, when you take away flexibility you take away a certain demographic uses the service. I have found more interesting people through replies then really anything else
- J. Doss
This stupid move by Twitter made me wish all the more for a mobile tool for FF that's usable. That's my ONLY issue with FF...it's simply unusable on mobile for me.
- Ken Camp
I was thinking exactly that today when I noticed that I still saw the replies here - brilliant.
- shira
Twitter now says it was a change required by engineering, not by user feature not being used. LOL
- Justin Long
Didn't twitter just remove the setting option, but continue to display @ replies?
- Steve Garfield
I'm contemplating an image of a failwhale shooting itself in the foot...
- Linda Mills
Steve the way Twitter has handled communication about what they did is pathetic and that may ultimately be they're biggest failing.
- Debi Jones
they display replies to YOU, but if your friend (i.e. Scoble, either one) replies to someone you are not following (friend-of-friend) then you won't see THAT reply.
- Justin Long
completely eliminates social discovery. its like going to a party and unless your friends with both people, not being able to hear any of the conversations. your friend's talking to someone you don't know and you can't hear... its like being blind to every conversation. Ridiculous!
- Justin Long
The number of new subscribers I've received on FF has exploded over the last 24 hours. People may be voting with more than their complaints and hashtags. Twitter could redeem itself by leap-frogging @replies and bringing back a more powerful discovery tool and that is of course - TRACK
- Debi Jones
ha i tried "track" only to have it twittered instead of an active command. i wondered what had happened to it.
- Justin Long
@scobleizer is there any way you can convince the friendfeed guys to create a simple replies feature (so I know when someone replies to a post) and/or threading (which I realize is significantly more complex than a simple reply view). This is a huge part of why people use and stick with Twitter. I doubt the shortcode/SMS is still a major factor.
- Jason Nunnelley
imho, threading is the way to go. Just like Jaiku does it and has always done it. Dunno why this is still missing from FF. And please don't bash Leo, Jaiku has been better made than Twitter, more features (but all made sense, no useless crap) and the threading. It just worked, and there was nothing big missing UI/UX-wise. Until google decided it doesn't care about microblogging, that is.
- Vlad Bobleanta
Overnight, I've become a major fan of FriendFeed. Less "silliness" than on Twitter, IMHO.
- Brandon Cox
The Twitter change would help push more traffic FF's way. Looks like Twitter are making changes based on all the -ve feedback though
- Mark Warren
2 is like the least romantic and classes position I've ever seen. You know a guy came up with that one. "Yo baby, I'm gona plow you over the sprinkler now"
- Matthew DeVries
Surfs Up and Rock the Boat seem entirely optimistic if you ask me. Rock the Boat just looks uncomfortable and shagging on a lino...come on...can two people even float on a lino?
- Toby Graham
I'm waiting for a report on each one by someone bendy enough to do these!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
Z: the sixth one is pretty awesome outside of water.
- Steven Perez
Zo, they're all awesome. There's no bendiness involved, really. The pictures make me laugh because yes, I'm picture the guy has like a 3" wang from the way these are drawn.
- Admiral Anika
When will this fall off best of day?
- Russellreno
always the same :-) but in summer or winter or when you want ... that'rocks :-) kama sutra is just the best book ever. you get 135 likes cause everybody love the sunshine :-)

"Blue eyes are typically associated with beauty, or perhaps Frank Sinatra. But to University of Wisconsin anthropologist John Hawks, they represent an evolutionary mystery. For nearly all of human history, everyone in the world had brown eyes. Then, between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago, the first blue-eyed baby was born somewhere near the Black Sea. For some reason, that baby's descendants gained a 5% evolutionary advantage over their brown-eyed competitors, and today the number of people with blue eyes tops half a billion. "What does it mean?" asked Hawks, who studies the forces that have shaped the human species for the last 6 million years. Nobody knows. It is one of the questions about evolution that persist 200 years after the birth of Charles Darwin, whose birthday will be celebrated worldwide Thursday."
- Derrick
from Bookmarklet
Half a billion is still less than 10% though
- Brian Sullivan
The key word in Darwin's Theory of Evolution is, and always has been, "theory".
- Mattb4rd
Sullivan, the fact that it's a recessive gene makes that 10% more relevant than it might seem. [EDIT: trait > gene]
- coldbrew
It's a theory because it is an explanation that fits the facts -- you know in a science sort way.
- Brian Sullivan
Wasn't there something, a couple or five years back saying that in so many years, there wouldn't be anymore people with (natural) blonde hair?
- Derrick
Strangely enough the percentage of blue eyes is roughly the same as left handed individuals.
- Brian Sullivan
Derrick -- Russell Peters does a comedy bit about how in the near future we won't have to worry about black and white because everybody will be brown. So I am guessing that blonde hair will go that route as well.
- Brian Sullivan
"Theory" as used by science, though, Mattb4rd, meaning an well supported explanation for observed evidence. Not "theory" as used in everyday conversation, meaning claim or suggestion. Our explanation for gravity is also a theory, yet few question the reality of gravity. Evolution is a fact, our explanation of the processes involved (theory) could be completely wrong, though no one has shown it to be.
- Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Just to be clear, it is a theory that blue eyes = 5% evolutionary advantage? I agree.
- coldbrew
I was focusing more on the idea that despite being the recessive gene, the "blue eyed gene" is still gaining "market share." Why? TBD. I would guess that it has something to do with superficial perceptions of beauty. Wait until we have "designer babies" where "you select the traits!".
- coldbrew
My mom had an uncle that was the meanest ole dirt farmer in Texas. He told her that blue eyed kids always belonged at the back of the line. She told him blue eyed cats have claws as sharp as brown eyed cats.
- Greg Guitarbuster
I wonder how many left-handed blue-eyed people there are.
- Brian Sullivan
I'm blue eyed and left handed. And awesome. So it must be true!
- Chrimmus Tad
Well I'm blue-eyed so maybe that accounts for half of my awesomeness.
- Nicola Quinn
Not blue-eyed but kinda ambidextrous. Is that from where my awesomeness stems?
- Derrick
The scientific community is starting to examine more closely some of Darwin's theories and suggesting alternatives. I think it's a great idea to question Darwin and evolution as we know it. That's how science evolves :D
- Will Higgins™
no coldbrew. that isn't the theory. the theory is darwin's theory. but they're trying to explain how blue eyes evolved. there are hypotheses for that, but, i don't think they've reached the point of theory just yet.
- tiffany
The idea of science is to continually examine theories as new facts come to light, reinforcing or contradicting the existing theory, and proposing new theories or alterations that fit the new and existing facts. Darwin's theory is no different than Newton, Einstein et al in this respect.
- Brian Sullivan
Depending on the day (and possibly the weather) my eyes can be brown, green, hazel or a very odd yellow. I guess that makes me some kind of alien or mutant... ;-)
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
I finally replaced Trillian Pro with this.. it has gotten stable enough.. there are still some features I miss, but it does the job.
- Tim Hoeck
Digsby is brilliant, I swapped from Trillian to this a while back and not looked back.
- Kol Tregaskes
I've been waiting for a Mac version for ages too. They've said from the get go that it's on the way, but i don't believe them anymore :(
- Chris Dahl
They need to support more then Twitter in able to say they support social networks .. more like social network . .don't like the way it looks anyway
- John Blanton
from twhirl
Does it do Novell Messenger? Both Trillian and Adium.
- Kenley Neufeld
Digsby's quite cool but I still prefer Pidgin because I don't manage my social networks and GMail in my messenger
- Dennis R.
Okay, I'm gonna be the voice of dissension here and tell you that I hope Digsby never gets released for Mac OS X. It looks like dog shit on Windows (and please, don't bring up the craptacular skins). I don't think design is a part of their ethos. There's little wrong with Adium, or Pidgin / Miranda for Windows.
- l0ckergn0me
All Adium needs to add is facebook/myspace and then video chat and it will be the MAC answer to Digsby.
- Amani
Amani, (1) It's Mac OS X, not MAC. It's never been MAC, and it'll never be MAC. (2) Adium already does Facebook and MySpace. Where have you been?
- l0ckergn0me
@ l0ckergn0me I don't agree with you, Digsby is good looking and you can download skins if you want. It has better design then MSN Messenger like a example. And I don't understand why you have to swear like that just for one program :P lol
- Kristian Salonen
Ryo, first look at their privacy policy, the benefit of storing the passes an the servers is, that as soon as you install and login to digsby on another computer all your accounts are connected without having to set them up again and again. I like that feature.
- Dennis R.
from twhirl
Please don't fight with my post, Haha! I didn't want to start a war!
- Didier Lahely
@l0ckergn0me: "it looks like shit, and don't give me anything about skins!" uh what? Isn't that the whole point of skins?
- Chieze Okoye
Chieze: yep ;) And I don't think that always beauty is important.
- Kristian Salonen
I Liked It For AIM But everything else sucks
- nfan12
I keep hearing good things about Digsby, so I'm anxiously awaiting a Mac version
- Seth Greenblatt
@lockergn0me - you knew what I mean by MAC. LOL. How does Adium do Facebook and MySpace? I don't think I knew that. Are you sure?? Tell me how ... :)
- Amani
They do the Facebook chat shit and the MySpace IM
- Outsanity
Yep. I found it. Feel foolish. You can't be on Adium and in facebook at the same time though. Messes up.
- Amani
I tweeted about Digsby in March last year - I like it a lot... It's a great IM tool that does IM, email, facebook, etc.. NOT just IM...very cool! Digsby was created by local students here in Rochester, NY!! http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Susan Beebe
Digsby tries to install CRAPWARE - I know of no other way of telling you that this is just shit, wrapped in shit.
- l0ckergn0me
i installed digsby a few weeks ago, but vetoed all the so-called crapware installs -- thanks lOcknergn0me for that word -- but i've yet to launch it since I already use Thwirl. I think the existence of the c-ware made me wary.
- .LAG liked that
I'll stick to TweetDeck until the Mac version comes out. Then we'll see.
- Don Faulkner
Ryo, I understand your doubts about storing your IM passwords on another company's server but on the other hand people provide ie their twitter password to lots of different web services or grant access to facebook through the api. But I agree that it should not be necessary rather than optional.
- Dennis R.

"On May 26, 1996, Mariana Cook visited Barack and Michelle Obama in Hyde Park as part of a photography project on couples in America. What follows is excerpted from her interviews with them. MICHELLE OBAMA: There is a strong possibility that Barack will pursue a political career, although it’s unclear. There is a little tension with that. I’m very wary of politics. I think he’s too much of a good guy for the kind of brutality, the skepticism. When you are involved in politics, your life is an open book, and people can come in who don’t necessarily have good intent. I’m pretty private, and like to surround myself with people that I trust and love. In politics you’ve got to open yourself to a lot of different people."

This is the second time I've seen this on FF. It's from Mark Hill, a friend of mine. He's one of the few remaining cartoonists who makes a living from his art. He's a great guy. His blog is here, though it looks like he hasn't been active for awhile: http://blog.hillcartoons.com/
- Dawn
FF: "Everyone's welcome, but we recommend you pass this lolRorschach test before proceeding. It's for you're own safety." ;)
- Micah Wittman
Absolutely, the current one never was really good.
- Thomas Bøhm
Yeah...nice. I react to aluminum if I handle it too long. This is a non-starter for me.
- Stephen Pierzchala
I use a wireless MSFT mouse. Works fine for me. Might get a bluetooth mouse with my tax return in the spring. Will make a decision then.
- Stephen Pierzchala
Looks pretty sweet. The mighty mouse is due for a refresh. I'm looking into the arc right now. I need a portable mouse more than anything.
- Brandon Titus
Does this thing still have a scrollwheel/scroll ball?
- Tyson Key
I think the idea is that it´s a multi-touch surface
- Thomas Bøhm
multi-touch mouse? awesome! sign me up!
- Susan Beebe
Cool. I'm ALWAYS trying to do the two finger scroll when at my iMac and then realizing, oh yeah, I'm not on the MBA.
