This is good to know. I've been putting off updating since they said updating quicktime and iTunes made everything harder. Now i can take the step to 10.5.7 and get everything else up to date :)

I far prefer Friendfeed's own iPhone-compatible web page. You can do likes in place, you see comments inline, it just works better than BuddyFeed.

I got BuddyFeed a few days ago, but have found myself using the /iphone web interface instead just because it requires fewer taps, etc. Neither of them have the equivalent of "My discussions", which is a bummer.

I agree with Brett. I took my touch to Europe and conducted 3 weeks worth of business and personal stuff, including blogging, with no issues. The more you use the soft keyboard, the better you'll get.

I prefer the BuddyFeed interface to Nambu, and since I'm sticking to Tweetie for my Twitter stuff, I'll probably shelve Nambu for now. Yes, the mobile web interface for FF is pretty good, but I really like BuddyFeed's implementation. Certainly don't regret dropping $3 for it. Like most iPhone apps of this kind, I'll use it until it frustrates me or something better comes along. Me likey.

Track to me always seemed like a one trick pony, a short-lived novel feature for the gtalk client with track topics polluted by the rest of the stream. twitter search has the latent unpolluted track stream but not available in the gtalk client. The internet was built on the concept of good enough so it is with track, of course in a few weeks...

track in the web client is not track. there is no Twitter track except for TwitterSpy and other similarly rate limited 3rd party unsupported and crippled products. gtalk is only the most useful of the released track clients to date, but as with api access doesn't exist. if you want to find out how important track is, just ask Twitter execs when it will be back. The answer: when it's provided by a strong competitor.

Jim: What client you use is not important. I use Adium to talk to twitterspy. Your favorite twitter client vendor could ride on twitterspy's infrastructure and present the matches however they see fit. Seesmic did this a while ago with twhirl and identispy.

The problem with this real time feed is the same with Twitter. You have to constantly monitor, and when you're not looking content is gone. The 'pause' button, and "best of day" will be critical in ensuring you're not missing content.

Filters organize. They don't help for when you step away from your screen for hours or even a day. RSS readers are superb at this. What you need is a product that can offer you the real-time information while you're present but then allow you to totally pause the flow, mark your spot, and start tracking in an "archive" or "offline" mode, allow you to then catch up in a Google Reader/RSS fashion and then resume real-time activities.

It's very interesting how "bro" means so many different things. Haven't done my research, but I think it's an example of slang that was mostly used by blacks and has now been adopted by other cultures. So much so that I can't even imagine anyone I know seriously using it. Maybe if they were talking about their actual brother. Probably depends on where you live, though.

Every person I show my Projector+MacMini+Boxee setup to is totally blown away. I strongly believe this is where daily lean-back media consumption is going. The quality is incredible. AOL Radio has kicked ass for a good year now, even as it transitioned away from XM stations and picked up CBS stations. I've been telling friends, and always have to say "Yeah, I know it's AOL. Trust me. This is a good project." I'm glad it's finally getting its due.

Not sure about AOL, but I just went driving and used Pandora over Edge on my 1st Gen iPhone. Short delay to start, but worked fine thereafter.

The AOL app works quite nicely on both wi-fi and 2G/Edge. I did note that the CNN Radio feed appears to either not be on the air or was dead for some reason. No programming at 1900 PT. Otherwise, it really rocks. Excellent audio and a very nice selection of the normal AOL stations as well as CBS Radio O&Os. Cool.

I keep my WinMob phone on 2.5G (GPRS) day to day which gets me a few days of battery (and is fine for my push email). If I want to surf, I just switch it into 3G mode and back when I'm done. Can you force the iPhone into 2.5G mode as that would be the clincher for me?

@critics: Identi.ca is worth supporting, because it is open source. The very reason means that it has the potential of attracting third-party developers that create plug-ins, improve the platform or simply host their own Identi.ca-installations. That's a huge thing. Think about Firefox: It is based on Mozilla/Netscape's code, which was created. AOL didn't do anything with it, but others came and created Firefox (and Flock, Sunbird, Songbird, etc.) because it is open. That's Identi.ca's biggest feature.

So if we wildly extrapolate identi.ca's usability increase, it could potentially surpass Twitter in 3 months and Friendfeed in 6. The question then is: will users migrate and become critical mass on the new service? By now we know that critical mass is more important than QoS, as evidenced by the bird and the whale.
