I saw. I'm watching in my waking hours in between posting hot fudge sundaes on FF. I need a few minutes break here and there. :) Hey, just heard John Ghazvinian http://ff.im/4jcMC on Keith Olbermann..brilliant scholar on Iran said it would be the 'kiss of death' if Obama helps Iranian protesters even in his rhetoric. Now we know(well some of us knew) why Obama is utterly careful with his words, never mind actions.

@Scoble: Kyra Phillips got it right on CNN this afternoon when she compared the Basiji to "SS thugs". Good for her. Also, she had a phone interview with an anonymous young Iranian woman inside Iran that was very inspiring. Responding to a question by Kyra about women taking to the streets, the young woman said she believed women were more fierce on the streets than Iranian men. That elicited a very audible round of applause from the techies in the control room. It was a beautiful moment.

Robert, that's what I think but some people who are in pain(Iranians) for their friends and family think he should organize EU nations to 'do something'. It appears to them that he's taking it lightly when people are dying in the streets. I read some tweets that people are angry at him that he took his daughters out for ice cream today while people are getting killed in Iran.

Shandiz, you don't have to convince me..you're preaching to the choir here but some Iranians would like to see a stronger reaction from him. I say its just that he has a balanced non emotional affect when he speaks and it looks to some like he doesn't care. I know he does.

Obama has played this crisis like a chess master, Myrna, and beating the Persians at the game they invented. The regime is itching to pin this on American meddling. In order for the Iranian Army and some elements of the IRGC to side with the opposition It's absolutely necessary it not appear as if America is taking advantage of Iran's chaos.

I want Obama out. His word is a trigger to label these people. On one hand Mousavi is asking people to use "god is great" as slogans, and use relgious flags. We don't want any approval or sympathy from US or Western Countries. If you can get Turky's muslim government to say something pleae do so, but not US with a dark history in Iran

Obama's involvement would be lethal, but the rational given by his press secretary today was horrific. Massive human rights violations by a regime chalked up as "problem in Iran between Iranians." That is a statement for open ended abuse, in all nations. He needs to push the UN.

Agreed Ben. A lot of people are observing what's going on in Iran as a surprise, but those who have followed international news are not really surprised. Aside from being visceral, the really exciting thing here is that the government of Iran can't stop every citizen from using social networks to report what's happening.

I'm definitely not saying the social media/conversation part is not crucial, but it is part of an ecosystem...I still find myself going back to more traditional sources for context and analysis -- and, most importantly, to see discussion about the most important issues. Social media's main concern in its coverage, censorship, is not as interesting to me here (the Supreme Council wants to maintain stability, after all) as why it would back Ahmadinejad again, since it continually has to rein him in.

@Robert No, I turned off my ff altogether. A couple of days later, I have ff updates running on my profile page and the home page. The only thing I could do was to completely disconnect them again. Kinda of strange!

1.2 million complaints on a service that is adding multiple millions a month seems to me to be a drop in the bucket. Zukerberg might just be right to ignore the complainers. What do you think?

I think they should differentiate between the complaints. Asking for a return of the previous filter controls is very different from changing the layout of the page. And more control = more better, right?

To parrot the first comment in the article: People have complained about every single Facebook change, up until they embrace them. Certain things warrant the careful eye of consumers (eg: the ToS debacle, etc) but in terms of GUI, FB has proven every single time to be ahead of the consumer curve (eg: the Wall). Honestly, boiled down, the people are complaining that Facebook gave them more control over their feed? Clearly, it's an education issue. The controls are now more robust, which is A Good Thing (tm).

And yes, Dave, I entirely agree on your point. I think Zuckerberg and Co. are right to ignore them. Sure, take input from those who have constructive criticisms, but the "hate it cuz it's change" folk are right to be ignored.

Chieze - How are the controls more robust? They seem more absolute to me. I used to be able to say that I want less of a particularly noisey person or more of my girlfriend. Now I have the option of none of the noisey person or their natural output and the same for my girfeiend. That is less control, in my book.

While it's possible to reach too far on this, for now I'm actually encouraged to see a company willing to go out on a limb to fulfill its vision, whether I like every detail or not, as long as its still willing to heed constructive criticism. Too much in popular culture over the past couple of decades has been determined by marketing surveys before the fact, which means the comfortable, the familiar, and the timid always get the nod.

Andrew, you can set up lists now, which is a different type of way of organizing the feed that didn't exist/wasn't nearly as easy before, and you can still do the slider adjustment here: http://www.facebook.com/feed_pr... (Though, I dunno why they obscured the link in their new layout). Redesigns are an imperfect process, but I personally like where they are going.

Is this a bug or a new feature? Facebook's FriendFeed application is now feeding all my FriendFeed content into the status stream. Had to turn off FriendFeed posting to my wall to keep it out of status stream.
