"You do realize, I hope, why seat belts aren't necessary? Think about it -- what is the purpose of seat belts in cars? Is it not to keep you from going through the windshield in a head-on collision? (yes, it is, because the belts lock up when they are advanced out too quickly, as would happen when a body moves forward.) Having gained that knowledge, ask yourself what difference a seat belt would make in a school bus when the seatbacks are already tall enough to prevent that kind of forward motion. It's a little trick called compartmentalization."

"how do you propose to pay them what you think they are worth? raise property taxes so high that nobody can pay them? Neither I nor you nor anyone that I know thinks that teachers don't deserve a monetary reward proportional to their importance and output (which are substantial), but the problem is that higher wages are not that easy to dole out. Futhermore, multiple instances I've heard of across the country prove that the quality of education at a given school has very little to do with the amount of money thrown at said school. There are cases where one of the poorest districts in an area can have the highest quality of education. I could go on for hours about what is wrong with our education system, but suffice it to say that in most instances it is not in the child's best interest to entrust their education to the state (and more and more, the federal government, even though the Constitution gives them no say in the matter)."

"Actually, it's either "outweighs" or "out-weighs". Two words standing alone must both have their own meaning; if one does not, and only exists to change the meaning of the other, often the words need to be combined in some way. (I hope that made sense.)"

"except for this thing i'll refer to as "black culture" (because I know you know what I mean by it). A large portion of the black population buys into this lifestyle epitomized in rap music (among other things), but there are people of other races that do too. I bestow the highest praise on the remaining 20-30% of the negro population (yes, negro is really the correct term) that see fit to rise above the stereotypes... people like Bill Cosby. He is awesome in my book."

"well, the phonetic spellings would have to be made from the so-called General American Dialect -- that's the flavor used by people like TV news anchors. and as far as I can tell, such changes wouldn't be drastic. just a few words with pointless spelling (such as ANYTHING ending in -ough) would change."

"i have come to love this program because it makes computing so much easier on the eyes when you're on it into the wee hours. Today I've been on this thing for a good while, and short while ago, I realized that my eyes were feeling fatigued and that they'd probably feel better if the screen wasn't so bright. Then I remembered that little program I installed on my laptop called F.lux! Installed it, and ... instant comfort."

"@Urrelles: yep, the New Testament is absolutely littered with other commands and examples than just those 3 things. however, the New Law was not made to be followed as a checklist. That's how the Old Law was made, and no human could follow it perfectly until Jesus came along. He did follow it perfectly so he became a sinless sacrifice. He knows us humans can't be perfect - he just wants us to try our absolute best to live so as to fit His example, and to do what He asks of us. He wants our hearts. Our minds. Our attitudes. So when we slip up, we can ask for forgiveness from an honest heart, and He says we will be forgiven. and yes, mass "Christianity" should stop lying to people and tell them what the Bible really says instead of what they want it to say, or what feels good."

"@j0en: as a matter of fact, I do take all of those to heart that are from the New Testament, but the Old Law was done away with when Jesus died."

"true. but do you know why MSNBC keeps Olbermann on? because he *does* draw a certain crowd of viewers which seems to be sizable enough for them to put up with him basically bossing his bosses around. (Ever read "An Inconvenient Book"? It's in there. Olbermann demanded an office door without a window in it, or else he wouldn't do his show one night. To anyone else, his superiors would likely have said "fine, don't do your show"... but rather, for Olbermann, they made it happen to keep him happy.)"

Very informative - talks about the 5 different types of government (monarchy, oligarchy, democracy, republic, and anarchy) and explains why there are really only 2: oligarchy and republic. We had better choose to be the Republic that we are before it is too late.

garrett, that's easy. jeff has FOAF feeds that are really interesting. you did good.
- AJ Batac
I love when that happens. You have to wonder how they find you. I was on one list with Scoble, Arrington and Calacanis. With that much traffic, there is no way they could have seen anything from me.

an excellent sermon by Lawrence Kelley at a gospel meeting at Reel Rd. church of Christ, with some good things to think about, especially following an election night like we had 2 days ago.
