Big music business problems in my town, but today was good day, if you care, in any way about Live, Outdoor Music in Austin, Tx, during SxSW in 2010 - http://www.google.com/search...
The City is committed to fixing a problem that is just now manifesting itself, as a result of Amendments to the local Code, earlier this year. Now, the Noise and Sound Ordinance needs further tweaking, because the process is proving to be very problematic for music businesses and outdoor music fans.
- Gary Etie
I love that Bret, Paul, and Kevin checked in. They probably are looking at their screens and asking "what do we do now?" how about ship some new features before Facebook overlords take you off to do bigger things?
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
I feel sorry for all you addicts. My use of it is purely social.
- Bruce Lewis
I do like FF and use it almost every day. Wouldn't it be great if FB either left it alone so we can continue to use it as "professionals," or somehow incorporate it into a more "mature" version of FB that didn't have all the annoying, time-wasting apps, games, etc. I'd much prefer a totally customizable FF "wall."
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I think FFundercats HO!!!!! would have worked but I'm here anyways.
- Jimminy Fuller
Actively fighting addiction to anything on a daily basis, but I'm still a FriendFeed fan! (I'd have been here sooner but I've been staring at Phoebe Cates pics for longer than I realized.)
- Mark "Godt Nyt Ǻr"
Thank you Robert Scoble to be here. :) BTW is this looks interesting for FF replacement? : http://streamy.com/ ? May be... I'll try it to see. :)
- Claude LaFrenière
Why should I? Whats in it for me? You doing some sort of survey of people to send out the police to do a "Safety Check" on when the site is shutdown?
- CW™
here. anecdote: a friend of mine just signed up for FF this evening. apparently the FriendFeed hype of the last 24 hours pushed him over the top. leaves me wondering whether FF has actually gained users today?it would be a crafty way of marketing the service. I'll wake up tomorrow to discover that there was a problem with the paperwork and the FriendFeed team have had a change of heart.

Count me in even though I was just starting to get hooked. I guess it's time to find a rehab and get all sobered up until the next relapse with some other new addiction. Isn't life grand?

++Jay. I was going to do the same thing yesterday but I didn't want to pay the money.
- David Cook - 2010!!!
David -- this was a $9.95 session but you can get them for $7.95 and there are also 25% off coupons if you do online check-in prior to your Delta flight. That's an incentive for folks to use that service and offload kiosk use at the terminals. Very savvy marketing by the folks at GoGo and Delta combined.
- Jay Cuthrell
well, it's 12:12 a.m. and I'm perusing FF from my iPhone via BuddyFeed before turning in. so yeah, I guess I count. "Here!" (raises hand)
- Don Faulkner
from BuddyFeed
I recommend FF to some of my clients, and there are some companies and nonprofits with presences here—not like Twitter, but I'll be curious how that will be affected when FB takes over more. Most have FB fan pages, groups and/or causes, too.
- Cathryn Hrudicka
Yeah, me too. I just saw the request to have a comment link at the bottom of the comments from one of your friends just yesterday and here it is. I'd say they are listening. Thanks FF.

Hi, I'm Bette... I don't know if I'm an addict, but I can't stay away... I keep checking, just to see if something's new... and I cry if I get no responses to a post. Is that addictive behavior? :D
- Bette Cooper
Yup, I have blocked all the impersonators now. You will still see them, but I don't see them and they no longer can comment on any of my items.
- Robert Scoble
@scobleizer As far as I can see you have blocked not only the impersonators (who renamed themselves back the moment they found out you have a problem with this) but most of the folks who chatted there.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@meatreach yes, see next thread. Scobble becomes anti-Russian.
- Never Impersonate You
Maxatma: well, that's just too bad. I speak English. Sorry. People who don't speak English really don't have any business commenting on one of my items, except in rare cases.
- Robert Scoble
Why you, Robert Scoble, don't block users from Spain or Italy? China or arabic countries? Those users that comments on non-English languages?
- Never Impersonate You
@Robert, in fact they do speak English. But they also do make fun of Friendfeed and everything that's going on there. You can block them or take part in this fun. ;)
- Махатма Бугоганди
I prefer FF over twitter and facebook, but all my friends are on twitter and/or facebook. Maybe facebook will get it right this time now that it has acquired FF. If they simplify it a bit more without removing functionality. Then I would spend a bit more time on FB. Lets hope all goes well with the merger. If not I'm jumping ship and going over to Google Wave. oh wait, I'm going to go with Google Wave regardless! ;-)

@scobleizer i can speak english and i beg you to remove bann from all russian friendfeeders, because we are all from it-community, working in internet companies and we came with peace, you asked for feedback from friendfeed addicts — we show you how really it is being frf addicts, we change names, we chat, we making things that are not serious. Why so serious? Unlock people, they are not bots, they just playing the game of real addicts and have fun. Common.

@robert yes they (we will) stay here, I think tat the migration process will take time and after reading @Paul Bucheit, I think that what we all are trying to get even if we don't say it explicitly is to preserve a kind of intimacy (beeing a part of the Huge faceBook community) don't mean that FF community will preserve their intimacy, why should a community be a plan one, (let imagine a community as a set of sub-community) that all.
- abdellah
Wow!! So many likes and comments; is it a record Rob?
- میر «عرفان» موسوی
@scobleizer thank you, for understanding. be cool, guys we just want have fun here a little. Take care.
- ideali
@Robert RE "I have enough noise in my life. I don't need to have more" - isn't it a lot of noise having 26K subscriptions and 46K subscribers on your frf account? I'm kind of surprised - you create a community that large around yourself, yet when you see a new and unusual activity you just block it right away.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@Robert, patience? Who's talking about patience? It's about curiosity, not patience. When something strange and unusual happens around you, you can either try to stop it or try to see what it can develop into. You choose to stop - and it stopped. Well, not stopped - just moved to some other place. And do you really know what it was and what it was about to bring you?
- Махатма Бугоганди
I'm here all the way from South Africa! I dig this service and I'm not quite ready to give it up. Regardless of the news about the acquisition, this remains an awesome service.

I'm sure this is part of Scoble's plot to poll all the people who really read his posts, and unfollow the rest. So I raise my hand.

Just a wannabe. Not an addict (yet).
- Carole Hicks
It might also be a way for me to filter down my "following" count (diff (my followers, scoble)) are the only people I really need to follow. Those that scoble follows, I can safely unfollow and use Scoble as my social media filter :)
- Shivanand Velmurugan
pardon the arrogance but it really sucks this great forum of sharing will turn into a myspace humdrum. Now I have to find another SM where first adopters and well informed techies won't haft to compete with general "noise"

I just mention the 1500 mark since it was such an iconic query to see... that and the 500 Likes club of FF posts. It's pretty exclusive stuff... but it's also sobering to note that the subject matter required to get to these levels isn't always a uniform mix of cares/concerns.

New here, but learning. Tips for best use?
- Barbara Langham
@bdlangam From my perspective the #1 tip in this category is: Explore and define "best use" for yourself. Despite potential "finishing" impression of some productive consolidations in this collective-collaborative cognition space, the emergent #cognosphere is still WAY too nascent to assert anything other than initial impressions. March to the beat of your own drum; build your own...

I think Android-based phones will eventually be the dominate mobile OS. And it's only a matter of time until it rivals the iPhone in aesthetics and functionality.
- Justin Davey
I agree with you--for now. But I think we'll start to see rapid upwards growth in not only Android OS development but app development as well. We just have to get a few more phones out there. It's UI isn't perfect, but we're already starting to see Android UI's that look iPhone-like. Newer apps will hopefully keep up with the changes.
- Justin Davey
Not to be a stick in the mud, but the Android had no apps at all in January and Iphone had over 65,000 it is not surprising that the number of new apps are dropping off on the Iphone and growing on Android,
- Kim Landwehr
So, iPhone app development has already been out for over a year. Then a new platform is released and everyone starts developing for that. So does anyone know if this chart includes apps already designed for the iPhone and now are being ported over to Android?
- Johnny Worthington
Apple is headed down the same path it took in the desktop market. Proprietary and closed is ultimately going to shoot them in the foot. As soon as the hardware becomes a commodity and the "Platonic ideal" for a mobile device is solidified (basically the iPhone form factor and features), Apple is in trouble. Remember Windows was much uglier than Mac OS, but Windows prevailed because it was available for ALL hardware configurations.
- Miles
My wife is in England, where her iPhone is useless for telephone service, without running up a $4,000 bill. On the other hand, my Android G1 is integrated with most of my other current "tools of my trade", the moment I sign in to my Gmail account, to activate the phone, and Google Voice solves that pesky roaming problem, if I travel.
- Gary Etie
But I carry my iPod Touch, so I don't lack use of most of the iPhone Apps
- Gary Etie
I agree with Miles. You can't compare Android and the iPhone OS as if they're built from the same baseline. It's natural that Android came out of the gate slower because it wasn't even a commercial product. Apple had 'perfected' the iPhone by launch. But Android will likely reach a critical mass of developers that will help it reach the tipping point of leadership. It's only a matter of time.

Wow, that Zii EGG Plaszma is pretty sweet. Hmm... are they for sale anywhere yet??
- Sam Harrelson
from IM
Apostol: Oh wow, yeah the Zii EGG Paszma is drool-worthy! Apple _should_ immediately license the iPhone OS to other phone manufacturers. Unfortunately they can't because all their profits come from the sale of devices and they learned back in the 90's that allowing "generic" Macs destroyed both the allure/beauty of Apple as a brand AND cannibalized their own device sales. They're in a...

Rob, I am sure you switched on various twitter clients, and make them tweet together to chime with this wonderful music :). Looks like you guys had fun.

Ruchit: it was an awesome party. One of the best I've ever attended. I'm posting another video from the party shortly.

The California ABC stuff is also crazy. "Not enough Mexican food on the menu to qualify as a Mexican restaurant" (paraphrased) - since when is that up to the State ABC?

Yeah. If I were to guess (without any data to back my claim), I'd say that the ABC has been taken over by MADD and/or religious nutjobs.

My vote goes to @leolaporte. He gets to do all day what I can only do on the weekends... netcast. He also gets the cool product reviews that I can't quite manage yet.

Robert's job is long hours and hard work. I don't want it.
- Jason Nunnelley
Gianfranco: Well, I work in a beerstore. So you can't drink them there (although I am allowed to do that). You have to buy the bottles at de Bierkoning (just behind the Palace) to take them to your hotelroom & drink them there.

Steve: all I can say is it has stuff Apple doesn't yet do.
- Robert Scoble
Robin: I have a bag with wheels for my Mac so my shoulder is OK. The photo was taken tonight.
- Robert Scoble
Microsoft Bing: We did not find any results for "tell you why I am dumping my Mac when this comes out but this is the first Dell" ~ giggle
- Don Strickland
I'm glad you have a wheelie bag, now you can buy it with impunity and wheel it through airports all over the world, feeling happy about your awesome laptop. :-) (How much does it weigh?)
- RobinDotNet
@Robert "Steve: all I can say is it has stuff Apple doesn't yet do...." TBH, there has been a lot of things the Macbook line hasn't been up to par feature wise for a long time. This isn't nothing new. My 1yr old XPS has eSATA, "F/W", "ExpressCard", 10in1 MMC, Biometrics, HDMI, Blu Ray, 4USB and integrated 3G all of which would be 'show stoppers' if Apple announced them. So its all relative.
- Adi
Adi, those features would become "amazing" and "new" were they announced by Apple -- much the same way that video is suddenly an amazing new feature of iPhones.
- Christopher A Carr
"has stuff Apple doesn't yet do" ... hmmm ... when placed on a Microsoft Surface it transforms into a puck for Microsoft Surface Hockey, played by waving your hands at the built-in Natal controllers.
- Don Strickland
Will it run Pro Tools. It seems as if I need to use it for digital editing of raw audio.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
Mathew: I would imagine it would, but I don't have it to try that, so will have to wait to tell you definitively.
- Robert Scoble
Thanks, Robert. Being out of the music & video biz since '97 has me playing catch up. The KDHX studios where I will be working are a mac house.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
Since it looks like a shell.. I will assume its the touchscreen with MS Surface on Windows 7 :)
- Tim Hoeck
looks like old black macbook to me! nothing new at least not in image! whats so special?
- matjeka
To back Robert up, I got to try this bad boy right after him. And I can agree, this will make me switch too (after 25 solid years of Mac OS) Holy crap, Dell must have a secret time machine in the basement if 1/2 of these "special" features are true. WOW WOW WOW, and price...WOW!!!
- sean andersen
Robert, Honestly I am not really impressed by the picture, as some mentioned before it most likely is not Mac OS X, is it? And what about battery life, does it match the MBP 17 inch battery life time?
- Peter Simoons
If this feels better to use than a mac, then it will do well. A shopping list of new features won't matter if it doesn't do the core things that make people love Macs.
- Sam
from twhirl
I don't believe you :) Let's revisit this thread when it comes out and see if you follow through
- Bwana ☠
So this is going to bring beleaguered Dell out of the doldrums? Apple did that, but I'll not hold my breath because of Dell's basic build-em-cheap philosophy.
- Rick Cogley
there's claims it is sporting a Mobile Intel GMA 4500MHD, Series 4 for video.. if so, that's one giant missed opportunity!
- alphaxion
touch screen would be great, there is a big need in netbooks because of the improvement of usable input area
- Mike Chelen
ok, I'm also intrigued. I can't figure out what is so special about this new notebook.
- timepilot
Robert: Can have your Mac when you're done with it? :)
- John Fox
Hmmm ... I am thinking Dell beat Crunchpad to market with a touchscreen running Win7... If so, Yay for Dell, way to go!!! I will definitely want a Z if so!! *Looks around for @RichardatDELL* :)
- Susan Beebe
The way things are going my mom will never get her new computer. I keep telling her something better is just around the corner.
- ChiliMac
I'm assuming it's windows 7 multi touch and gestural support. The surface code that's now part of windows 7...
- mikepk
mikepk: there are more features than that that Apple doesn't yet have. Gotta wait, though, I promised not to leak.
- Robert Scoble
Dont throw it away! Im sure there are plenty of people that would love to have your old mac!
- James Hague
If it doesn't run OS X it's pointless.
- Peter Kruit
Peter: it runs it, but you can't buy OSX legally for use on non Apple computers. I totally disagree with your thesis, though. I'm running Windows 7 right now on my Mac and it works VERY NICELY.
- Robert Scoble
I'm sure Windows 7 is working nicely, but Windows just doesn't compare to OS X. Mind you, I've only been using OS X for a year now. Before that I was a Windows/DOS user.
- Peter Kruit
Peter: again, I totally disagree. It's clear you haven't tried Windows 7 out on your Mac yet. There are many things in it that are nicer than Apple has. Especially the toolbar and especially Google Chrome.
- Robert Scoble
I have tried Windows 7. It's the same registry and DLL hell that it's always been.
- Peter Kruit
Agree with Scoble... Win7 has many things nicer than OSX.
- Adnan
Peter: I haven't had a problem with DLL hell and the registry for years. I guess you still trying to run VB 2.0 apps? ;-)
- Robert Scoble
1. Never put anything into the registery unless it will affect another part of the system. 2. DLL hell ended in Win98. WinXP/2000 added a way to solve all DLL problems with no rebooting, but the coders have been lazy/ignorant (see #1).
- xero
Yes, case in point- and that's a deal breaker for just about any Mac user.
- Dean Kakridas
from email
I switched to Macs 3 years ago but I have to say Windows 7 will make me rethink that decision. It is much more than a "Vista Service Pack".
- Steve de Mena
My husband has a Dell laptop and it's really nice, so I am definitely gonna check the Z out...
- Susan Beebe
Peter: It is possible to install MAC OSX on your Dell thanks to the OSx86 Project: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki... Although it may not be entirely legal this is still going to happen and Apple should roll with it and embrace the hacker culture. If this Dell can run Boot Camp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...), and give users the option of running either Mac or Vista that would be awesome!
- Garin Kilpatrick
Garin: that's possibly the ultimate manifestation of "lipstick on a pig"!
- Dean Kakridas
from email
Dean: No way, Sarah Palin is the ultimate lipstick pig and Mac OSX on a Dell is cool!
- Garin Kilpatrick
Garin: that she is and might be the ultimate candidate for a Dell actually.
- Dean Kakridas

Is there some new synchronization feature using Microsoft's Mesh technology or something? Win7 is suppose to have some Mesh tech built-in.
- Jeff Weber
Dean: Haha! Jeff: Mesh is probably windows only syncing, but I have not investigated. I use http://www.getdropbox.com/ for syncing my files between my PC and Mac, and it works great!
- Garin Kilpatrick
interesting! Windows 7 indeed rocks... and yes - i own macs and pcs
- andy brudtkuhl
Damn hype and secrets are eating my brains clock cycles. Raises fist at Robert ;)
- Mark Essel
I hope you won't need to call Tech Support for it.
- Head Ov Metal
Doesn't look all that impressive to me. It's a Dell with Vista. Whoopty-do. *curmudgeon*
- Jason Huebel
Jason: it doesn't have Vista. Thanks for playing.
- Robert Scoble
any idea if this is a joint effort with the alienware talent they acquired?
- Trey Philips
Even so, it's a Dell with Windows. If it's touchscreen, great. Facial recognition? Bleh. Unless it runs on cold fusion and can predict the future, it's still just a Dell with Windows. That said, I love W7. But I love Mac OS X much more.
- Jason Huebel
Jason: let's talk after you see it. You might still be a Mac fan but you will at least pause after you see the secret stuff this does.
- Robert Scoble
I remember when Apple's PowerBooks had that rubbery/leathery black finish. Dell's bringing the PowerBook-y back, evidentally.
- Wade Dorrell
Fair enough. I believe you saw some things that really were impressive, so I suppose I can withhold judgement. I'm just naturally skeptical of "this is a Mac killer" or "this is an iPod killer" comments, since so many have tried and ultimately failed.
- Jason Huebel
Jason: You are right on. And furthermore, many have not even really "tried". Nothing out there that claims to even compete with Apple products have put close to the level of time, resource, and dollar investment in design and software that Apple has. Anyone who has been in the tech industry for the past 10 years now knows that there's Apple and then a bunch of pretenders and bad imitators.
- Dean Kakridas
from email
That's like saying I am throwing away my Mercedes for the new Chrysler. You still get Dell support and service which has forced me to find new vendors. Wish windows server products ran on os x server. Then we could go all mac hardware.
- Dan Douglass
from Nambu
I've never had a single problem with Dell support. Apple's on the other hand is useless. 10 working day repair time for a machine, compared to next business from Dell. Had to repair a failing disk ourselves because Apple wouldn't replace it, if tech tools said it was bad, 'tech tools isn't any good', and when disk utility said it was bad, 'tech tools is more accurate'. Wouldn't put anything important on Apple hardware or support.

FF is great..... :) I'm sure he'll place high on our list now that there's competition ;)
- Kevin A. Burton
Let's face it besides Twitter interest, he just can't figure out how to use it!
- courtney benson
Ben: I did a survey of about 500 of the top technology industry innovators, influencers, and press. About 85% are on friendfeed already. The question is whether other groups will adopt friendfeed too.
- Robert Scoble
Ben: even more interesting is most of the tech people are on all three services and use them for different things.
- Robert Scoble
I wish that it tied in better with existing services.
- Ben Hanten
What if Facebook gets true real time updates? That would be huge.
- Ben Hanten
They might adopt FF but I think most non super users all getting burnt out on the addition/migration to new platforms.
- JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
Ben: I always want more integration too. It's interesting that @ev sees Facebook as Twitter's real competition.
- Robert Scoble
It would be interesting to link FF and Facebook and Twitter accounts
- Kevin A. Burton
I'd like to see Pete Cashmore using it more as well.
- Jesse Stay
Kevin: yup! I wish someone would do that. Lots of desktop clients like TweetDeck, Peoplebrowsr, Seesmic Desktop are getting very close to being able to do that. Interesting too that @ev says he doesn't use a desktop client very often.
- Robert Scoble
Ben - You wish what tied in better with existing services?
- Matthew DeVries
Robert, I'm a bit shocked at how personal Mike Arrington took the whole bitchfest that happened after Leo Laporte's blowup. To be honest, I thought the whole thing, and the second phone call with you guys, was very unprofessional. It was enlightening, but not a professional presentation of any kind. I do the same thing sometimes - blow off steam in a public venue. But, it felt very "Real Life." Arrington should have thicker skin for a guy that throws questions and comments around like he does.
- Jason Nunnelley
There was a study released in Canada last week that 74% of Canadians don't even know what Twitter is. Not that we make a huge impact but it will be some time before FF gets any traction here.
- JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
@Robert 1) Ev should see FB as their real competition. Morin threw down the gauntlet last week. And 2) You may be projecting your twitter SUL anger on Arrington, subconsciously? ;-))
- Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
I try hard to become more cyborg-like, but I'm not very good at it
- Jesse Stay
Jason: it sure was, wasn't it? Arrington once told me he's not a blogger, he's an entertainer. Sometimes he pushes his entertainment too hard and he's surprised when it blows up.
- Robert Scoble
Jesse: me neither. I wear my heart on my sleeve sometimes and I have learned many people don't like that.
- Robert Scoble
Honestly though, if someone suggests they hope I'll die of cancer I'm going to laugh out loud. Nobody but close friends knows me well enough to really hate me. It's silly, and saying something like that is stupid. If someone says "I hope you die," folks need to get over it and move on. I realize a case or two have resulted in real violent acts, but typically most of us are more sound minded or on our meds :)
- Jason Nunnelley
Jason, imagine if hundreds of people were saying that to you daily. I think it would get to me eventually.
- Jesse Stay
just ran tweetstats on @ev , he does use the web interface and text the most and twitterific third. So web interface + cell interface only
- Kashif Khan
Arrington? Argh! Let's see, where did I put my ePitchfork? Gonna lay all kinds of text up on his retinas...gonna be a real whuppin'. ;)
- Christopher A Carr
Duh. He wants to drive traffic to techcrunch.com, where he gets ad revenue. He gets nothing by driving traffic to friendfeed.
- Michelle
Jesse, no it wouldn't. I'd accept it as part of being high profile or I'd get into another line of work. If a close personal friend said something like that I'd consider it more deeply. But, some troll dumbass on FriendFeed wouldn't get my ire up. I'd think it was an immature child and ignore it. But, I can dish it out. I ask for it sometimes. I don't take anything virtual strangers say about or to me personal.
- Jason Nunnelley
Jason well you are doing better at being less-human than I. I wish I were able to take criticism as well as you.
- Jesse Stay
Oh, taking criticism is different Jesse! I just said I don't give a rip what some nobody says about me in cyberspace. It's a value thing. If you're not intelligent enough to express cogent thought I can't be bothered to take notice, let alone close an account or change my behavior due to someone else's mental midgetry.
- Jason Nunnelley
Jesse: For example, I don't think I'd take Leo's FU as lightly if I were working with him. Leo said some pretty rough stuff about Arrington and if I were Arrington I would have needed more than a brief "I lost it." I don't think I'd work with him again. Leo obviously had a lower opinion of Arrington before the conversation started, else it wouldn't have gone that route. Leo made some...
- Jason Nunnelley
I love how he was able to turn the discussion on a dime from his behavior to the comments of others as "the mob". One or two idiots make ridiculous threats and now it's all of Friendfeed that is the problem? That is not true, if anyone was wondering ;)
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
@Robert "Arrington once told me he's not a blogger, he's an entertainer. " Really?!?! Interesting. He's not that entertaining. FAIL. ;-)
- Jim Oxenford
Kevin A. Burton - came in late to this, but if I post a Link on Facebook, I have FB set up to send it to FF, then I have FF set to send it to Twitter. I had to play around with the setting for a while, to not get multiple posting, but I either got it worked out, or the Apps figured it out for me???
- Gary Etie
I'm guessing the point of Robert's post is that Arrington isn't successful on FriendFeed (and when did the Fs get capitalized?). I buy that. That's logical.
- Jason Nunnelley
Jason: I was beating @techcrunch on Twitter too, before Twitter did the suggested user list. The fact that Twitter put @techcrunch on the list and not me artificially raised him above me on the list. Facebook and friendfeed don't do that and I'm still kicking his ass on those two places. It does bother him, too. He once told me "I like any list I'm on the top of." So do I. ;-)
- Robert Scoble
Jason: sorry, I'm so used to capitalizing company names. It's friendfeed, not FriendFeed.
- Robert Scoble
But why did Arrington fail here? He didn't mistreat the users, he was pretty well engaged in discussion compared to a lot others in the field. He'd like, he'd come into threads unsolicited to post. He wasn't a Scoble, but I certainly considered him FF-functional. I don't like him, how he works, or his attitude, but as far as fulfilling his side of the FF-contract, he did so in spades.
- Matthew DeVries
Robert, no man they changed it. Look at the bottom of the screen :P
- Jason Nunnelley
Matthew: oh, I didn't even notice that friendfeed is now FriendFeed. I guess they got tired of seeing everyone use the wrong capitalization with it.
- Robert Scoble
it's FriendFeed on the <title> but not in the logo ... I think you can stick with friendfeed :-p
- Joel Bennett
Matthew: I do better in social networks than Mike does because 1. I pimp them hard on my blog. 2. I spend a lot more time on them. 3. I follow a lot more people. 4. I interact with users a lot more on them. 5. I don't see them as a threat to my business model. 6. I talk about them all the time at conferences.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, I realize people do things to suit their own interests. But, if Arrington really just hates that he's not performing as well on FriendFeed, he just needs to buckle down and work on it, not puke on the project. It's irresponsible, poor community membership. You are open about why you dis Twitter.
- Jason Nunnelley
This is friendfeed.com? Not friedfeed.com? Damn! I thought something was wrong! All those food posts must have thrown me a curve ball. By the way, did we mention "Because @arrington can't delete all the posts that criticise him or Techcrunch" yet?
- Andy Bold
BTW, you guys talking about Arrington made me just go read techcrunch.com. Great little blip about Hunch.com.
- Jason Nunnelley
Robert - I'm bloody sure you've answered this already somewhere else, just let me know if you have and I'll crawl for it, but you just had a drink with @ev or @biz in the last week haven't you? Did you get a straight (if hard to hear) answer about why you aren't on the SUL?
- Matthew DeVries
Matthew: I didn't ask. Why not? Cause it wasn't the time/place and because I'm a woosie!
- Robert Scoble
Robert: No judging here, just wondering if you asked.
- Matthew DeVries
Robert: I can picture it later, Ev & Biz "Can you believe he didn't ask?" "No! But thank god he didn't! We would have had to give him an answer that makes /sense/!" ;)
- Andy Bold
from email
Andy: there is no answer that makes sense. At the Twitter Conference that Broback hosted you could tell employees were uncomfortable with the suggested user list. That's because it was wrong to do it and they did it to manufacture followers for their own team and favorite people. There's no escaping that and I did joke around with @ev about that on Saturday night. Plus, the damage is done and all it would do by getting in Ev's face about it is mark me as an asshole.
- Robert Scoble
Abby: yeah, companies like having TechCrunch on their testimonials pages. Now that Arrington has deleted his friendfeed account I wonder how long that testimonial will stay.
- Robert Scoble
Not to piss on your list, Robert, but: Barack Obama at 35?!?
- Steven Perez
Steve, surprised that he's only 35 ;) I they need to add something like "if $account == presidentElect then influenceMultiplier =+ 50" :)
- Andy Bold
from email
Here's the deal. Surely Mike got just as many mob attacks via @ replies on Twitter, but did he shut that account down?
- Stephen Pickering
Why Mike Arrington really hates FriendFeed: because you keep sending Tweets or FFing about him hating it, getting him valuable hits on his websites and accounts. There is no such thing as bad publicity when you're in the gossip, I mean, news biz. ;)
- xero
OMG I am that list wow... goose pimples!
- Susan Beebe
Arrington dissed FF during his epic post about Scoble needing "intervention" - he said we "grunt" over here on FF, i defended FF and he apparently never changed his view. Not sure why he doesn't see the value I see in it. Yes, there's a lot of "noise", but there's tons of signal too!! FF does require some skill at constructing lists, searches, filters, etc to properly leverage the db and gleen the goods
- Susan Beebe
xero succinctly nailed it. It looks like a divide and conquer MO to me. TC's standing as a go-to opinion source is significantly affected by the social network/blogging activity orbiting around it. Friendfeed has disturbed that orbit the most, so it gets fired upon the most.
- Micah Wittman
I guess, Micah. Of course, to me, Arrington's opinion and $2 will get me a cup of coffee in the morning, and not much else.
- Steven Perez
from IM
I'm #84! Nice. (oh wait, we're not talking about me, are we)
- Sarah Lane
Oh I SOoooooo participate more in ff than Sarah dammit.
- Matthew DeVries
I'm #4444 so I'll be sticking with my day job for now.
- Jay Cuthrell
I have never seen Mike engage on Twitter and only occasionally on Friendfeed. Surprised that he would feel slighted. As far as 'the mob mentality' issues go, I think that it's likely that anyone who is high profile will draw a crowd. How they manage that crowd is the question, really, and that's a personal decision, not a fault of the service. Before Friendfeed, it was Techmeme 100....
