i found a site by an author who has turned off comments on his site while he's writing his next book... and says so at the bottom of each post on his site
- Chris Heath
Jackson: You can click the timestamp on http://beta.friendfeed.com to get here. Like under Leo's post, it will say 19 minutes ago, click that :)
- Jay Neff
as bad as Twitter is, it's getting more people into the web instead of looking at the web
- Matthew
Gunny, linguistics is interested in description (and theory/modeling, etc) not prescription...
- Christopher A Carr
I like facebook, but for crying out loud don't send me an easter egg or fling poo at me or ask me to be in your fracking Mafia
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Exactly. And listen; you can't read and hear everything. Stop trying to be on top of everything. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with everything.
- Jackson Pollock
yeah Bwana, I love his commentary and cranky geek style
- Jay Neff
Back to TECH - what kind of Blackberry did she lose?? :-)
- Chris Dickens
Can someone post a link to that story Leo just mentioned about being cut off facebook?
- Keith Barrett
I remember when you criticized digg for having two guys drinking on stage. Bad messagewas the impression. I'm not saying what's right. I'm having some wine right now.You have a very family friendly feed here.Moderators trying to respect deceny. Drinking was not appropriate if I recall. Where are you coming from? You guys are certainly under the influence.Have you changed your tune????
- Newell Unfried
They should pour themselves a big glass of "Tech News"
- Matthew
I believe those guys that got nipped for Pirate Bay only got their limited convictions because the governments are wanting to change rules so that their activity is illegal, but realize that what laws at the time were not against them. Therefore, it's like saying "Sorry guys, we don't want you to do that in the future and we have to convict you to create precedent going forward."
- Chris Dickens
I hope they get around to talking about Android.
- Stephen Heron
Perahps Gunny. However it could look like Gary's wine sponsorship has changed a shift in attitude. My sense that that's not Leo but it is all about perceptions isn't it.
- Newell Unfried
this show didn't jump the shark, it fell off the ball
- Rodzilla
I like it when there's a lot of people in the room all drinking & eating.
- Keith Barrett
Gunny Got to tell you I just don't think This Week in Fun is fun.. Like Sarah. Just don't care for Martin.Just don't think it's worth my time. Hope they do well.
- Newell Unfried
JCD is fillibustering twitter this show...
- Chris Heath
who cares, she wasn't signed. she's going to be a star if she wants to be. It's no more faked than American Idol, which is the biggest SHAM on TV
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Is that an Angels logo on the back of JCD's laptop?
- Tom Langston
Tech pundits are quick to declare something dead
- Bwana ☠
Gunny. What's really interesting about this show is with alcohol they really let their guard down. I'm not sure they would make the comments they do otherwise.Agree?
- Newell Unfried
are any of them watching the friendfeed stream? their just talking away about non tech
- scott
viral videos merit a mention and a clip i guess, if they're good
- Chris Heath
leo checks it scott, I'm pretty sure
- Chris Heath
Wonder if Simon owns part of the recording company
- Greg
Paul Potts is the real deal! Susan Boyle is a flash in the pan.
- Chip Duford
this is true Newell and I think my disgust with this comes from having alcoholic parents and dealing with them. I don't do well with lots of drunkeness
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Mrs. Doubtfire is so, so funny. Robin Williams is one of my most favorite comedians.
- Chris Dickens
Leo - where are you getting all these knockout intelligent women in tech? They weren't around when I was growing up
- Keith Barrett
Gunny -Agree. Ditto with drunk parents and friends. Maybe they should youtube the Andrew Johnston youtube singing Pie Jesu. Now that's inspiring.
- Newell Unfried
Keith: Did Fred send you free schwag and give you a month free?
- Jay Neff
customer support via twitter should be a beneficial add on to customers that companies should be aware of but not focus on... I think companies should monitor twitter for mentions of their company to realise the actual state of the way their company is perceived and then work on fixing it
- Iain
Bwana, try one of the different IRC channels, like #unfiltered
- Matthew
none of this matters. no one but Leo cares.
- jccalhoun
The fact that companies are responding to users on Twitter better than their normal support channels tells me that they're afraid of advanced Internet users. We spend a lot of money on their products, and we also happen to have the squeekiest wheels when we get so completely ticked off when they screw up.
- Chris Dickens
alcohol, Dvorak twitter blocks, canadians - it's a Trifecta
- Steve Gillmor
She's bold though.... for a first time TWiTter (see how I did that?) she's doing a lot of talking
- Bwana ☠
It's always annoying when people do real work, and early adopters help clean it up, and then main stream takes credit for the discovery
- Keith Barrett
Sam - It's the equivalent of airing dirty laundry in public. When the response is public, all B.S. seems to go away and words are chosen carefully...
- Chris Dickens
Is it a hardware issue that prevents iPhone from having a bar code scanning app?
- Christopher A Carr
Okay, so here's my soupbox -- iPhone OS (iPhone and iPod Touch) is so so cool, but I have to say that it's not "right" for a phone. BlackBerry is so much better. The iPod Touch is a perfect companion where I can do random other stuff when I'm close to WiFI and "communicate" with my phone from anywhere in the world. :-)
- Chris Dickens
No auto focus I believe is what is stopping it.
- Stephen Heron
Sorry for the self-promo, but it's relevant; here's a very brief comparison of app switching in Android and Web OS: www.cacarr.com
- Christopher A Carr
The N95 battery life has been hugely improved with firmware updates
- Iain
Gunny: you get to keep for non-irc usage of /me
- Bwana ☠
"Geeks" are neophiles with a more-or-less narrow set of technical skills. Geeks often have at least average social aptitude, but have interests that aren't mainstream. "Nerds" might be geeky, but the label is a pejorative in that it connotes an individual who is nearly pathologically deficient in social capabilities.
- Christopher A Carr
A geek is someone that can CREATE a hacking instruction, not follow one
- Keith Barrett
I'm hating the diggbar sorry, why didn't they just improve the Firefox addon?
- robby
First place I saw the JS was Daring Fireball, which posted the message basically saying "F you"
- Patrick Sullivan
Daring Fireball made the diggbar his white whale. He talks about diggbar more than leo talks about twitter
- jccalhoun
Gee. What will their software look like when alcohol is introduced? It doesn't work now.
- Keith Barrett
I stopped watching Leo and TwiT when he started his infatuation with Lisa Bettany... oh look another conversation about Lisa's boobs, but lets not be sexist here.
- Charlieray
To suggest that any of the hosts have anything intelligent to say would be a stretch. What a shame. Think I'll rethink my podcast choices and go listen to an Audible book.
- Newell Unfried
TWiT 191 - Nuking the Jumped Shark in a Fridge
- Chris Heath
Ashton is not bigger than the Pirate Bay verdict
- jccalhoun
I think TWiT is finally wrapping up.
- Nolan Alston
This is the freakiest show i've ever seen on twit live.
- J.R. Luppold
Sorry Leo, but this really was a pretty boring episode. Guests weren't near tech-related enough (aside from Dvorak), so neither was the conversation. Plus, too much wine, and too much talking over one another (from Shira especially). I might have to finally pull out the "worst TWiT ever" card. Still looking forward to next week, though!
- Staticharge
i would say only lightly edit it ... there's probably 20 or more small edits that could be made
- Chris Heath
This makes me yearn for the good old days of the Yellow Lasers episode...
- jccalhoun
jccalhoun woz episodes were always good
- Chris Heath
Light editing would be ideal. Cut out the jumbled parts with everyone talking over each other.
- Michele
I definitely want to see another episode with Becky Worley and Dvorak. They're great guests, and you can actually discuss tech with them.
- Staticharge
DON'T LET THE LISTENERS CONTROL THE CONTENT!!!
- Chip Duford
As an avid listener to the pod cast, I find the live feed rather disappointing. You are committing the unforgivable sin of being boring.
- Andrew Thall
TWiT 191: The Twitter Episode (for real this time)
- Mathias Jost
Leo - TWIT 191 "Wine, Women, and Song"
- Keith Dishman
Leo, I can see how busy you are, but could you give us a quick status update on UGM please? :)
- Gabe
I think it was the This Week in Shira Lazar show. All I heard was ME ME ME TALK ABOUT ME
- Max Strzelecki
I must be in the minority. I really loved this episodes, but that's why I like TWiT... its great variability and personalities. Also, Grumpy Lisa is awesome and we need more Mostly Grumpy Lisa :D
- Bob M. Montgomery
Leo, you should have a new show TWiSM (this week in social media) and put all these social media personalities there (or have them on net@nite). The last few shows 188/189 were great, its always been about your (& guests) opinion on tech stories but this show (191) really went downhill rapidly with hardly any meaningful discussion of any tech stories.
- Jayesh
wow new low for twit wtf was Shira Lazar doing on this show? calling herself a "New Media Maven" and being a "pioneer" I just threw up in my mouth.
- adolfo foronda
Unfortunately I'll never get that 1 hour 33 minutes and 54 seconds of my life back (I know, my fault, no-one *made* me listen to the bitter end). I don't think adding the wine to TWiT these past several weeks has been a good idea.
- Steve
Yes I'm not so sure about the wine thing as well. If John would spend less time arguing about covering twitter news and just let Leo get on with it, the twitter news would pass much more quickly rather than being hampered on
- Andy
I completely agree, Andrew. The wine is getting old and JCD complaining about Twitter talk is getting worse than the Twitter talk.
- Joel R
Less models and more real journalists with interesting opinions. Becky Worley hit it out of the park and Molly is good as well.
- Techboy2000
Joined just to comment. Love TWIT, but NO more more Shira please, ever. So full of BS and meaningless words. Can't she let anyone else talk, ever? Ugh. Hated it. Will listen again but actively avoid shows with her on it.
- Ian
I mirror Ian's statement. Shira was intolerable. I have listen to just about every single TWiT and this is the first one I have stopped before finishing. I made it about 30 minutes in before stopping in disgust. I will not tune in if she is on. Leo, I know you take our advice with a grain of salt, but please don't ask her back on again.
- Will Szczepaniak
best infotainment show since i started watching ;) <3
- skyjumpy
Can all this "eye candy" commentary cease? It's sexists and insulting. Clearly, if that's your assessment, you weren't paying attention. Lisa Bettany has a master's in linquistics, which means in all likelihood she's brighter than any of us on this thread in a dozen different ways. She's also a talent photographer, gadget lover, solid writer and just happens to have done some modeling,...
- Bob M. Montgomery
from twhirl
Leo: I've listened to TWiT since episode 1. I'm getting sick and tired of the Twitter talk. Please, please, please, please(enough please) of the Twitter talk!!
- Kevin Adair
The question to ask is, "how are people (the people I need to reach, interact with and tell stories to) going to use this new power and how can I help them achieve their goals?"
- Gavin
The new rule seems to be that if you're going to spend the time and the money to see someone face to face, be in their face. Interact or stay home!
- Gavin
