One of these guys will win #Wimbledon once the other guys arm falls off first... this is an insane match! Loving it!
@salvadorurrea Thanks... glad you like Artists on Twitter list!
As a musician, I don’t want to expend any energy whatsoever preventing people from hearing our music. I think that’s antithetical to the idea of making it. Yes, we streamed it. Basically we set it up so people who felt guilty about stealing our music could donate some money to our favorite charity. - http://gcn.tumblr.com/post...
@marjae Ok.. will do!
@marjae Strange... try again.
@eleetmusic @marjae Great idea… an open-source solutions wiki. It'll be a good way to capture discussions/ideas from all perspectives.
@marjae @eleetmusic There's lots of grandstanding & solutions avoidance/stalling going on… again, that's the gatekeepers role unfortunately.
@eleetmusic @marjae We interact and do business with people we like and respect... it seems some have shifted away from that thinking.
@eleetmusic @marjae Agreed. Artist = an entrepreneur. Many artists are now on their own which albeit liberating… very frightening as well.
@eleetmusic @gcn1 Bands have to provide for themselves what record labels did in the past... a major shift in thinking and doing. Not easy.
@marjae Discusing prob. in the biz gets tiring…conversation should shift to wide range of creative solutions. Won't be a one size fits all.
@eleetmusic But you know what... there won't be any one solution for all. Artists, like any biz, will find creative to monetize their works.
@eleetmusic The casual music fan will listen but isn't compelled to buy.... but may with right fan-artist interaction/marketing.
@eleetmusic One thought... find and focus on core fans. The one's who will buy up everything concert tix, merchandise, ltd edition rel etc.
@marjae I also don't think a long, drawn out "war" is the answer... a waste of talent, money and energy. Need to work at solutions instead.
Dinosaur Jr fans... this is a really long, detailed & interesting timeline of the band's history. -- http://www.exclaim.ca/article...
@cbmam @marjae Thanks. We need to respect artist rights & for music biz/artists to earn fair profits for their work. How to get there?
@marjae Wherever there is big money at stake... there will always be a fight for control. The battle isn't going away anytime soon.
@marjae Yep... I think you nailed it with your last thought. The revolt is against big biz & less so against artists… esp. indie/ermerging.
@marjae Hard to look forward when their heads are stuffed so far back... they are gatekeepers trying to protecting an outdated biz model.
@marjae Now, music biz models, copyrights, & the politics of it all… that's a whole other (ugly) battle. Fans don't care about that stuff!
@marjae It's a shiftl… an evolution. Music will always thrive. Pick up an instrument & play/sing/record anytime. Who is going to stop that?
@marjae Lose that grip & the reaction is obvious. They are slowly being cut out/less relevant thx to new tech. DIY ethic & decentralization.
@marjae Greed, power, control... that's the issue. There is a monopolistic-type mindset that the music biz has enjoyed for years...
