Derrick
Do you have any tattoos?
Yes. EDIT: Definitely plan on more - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Nope, but plan on it. - Brendon Wadey
No and never will. - BeeLing
I just can't imagine anything being so important I'd want it on my body forever. - teh Dork Knight aka Kenny
Yep. And I want more! - Lainie
no. i want one (well, actually 6). just need some $$$ and to get over my fear of pain. - Admiral Anika
no, wanted one when I was younger, but never got around to it. - jamar78
No; I've never understood self-mutilation (incl. piercings). - Mistletoe Glen
I'm with Glen on this one. - Ian May
I started small and now have nearly two full sleeves and I don't see it as self mutilation as I do my own personal one of a kind wearable art. The pain really isn't that painful. *shrug* - Derrick
Nope, but I plan on getting one eventually. Something with cherry blossoms, I think. Still deciding. - Carmen
If you can't take it off at night, it's not "wearable." :) - Mistletoe Glen
Mutilation is cutting off your twin's arm and attaching it to your side. Piercings and tattoos are just a little body-modification. - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Whenever I can get an animated tattoo maybe I'll think about it. I like tattoos, but I'm not really interested in having any myself. - Chrimmus Tad
LOL. Ok, Glen. - Derrick
No tattoos for me ever. I like tehKenny's take on it. - Janet
Nope...no tattoos...and no piercings, other than double pierced ears that haven't seen any jewelry in them in about 10 years. - April Russo (app103)
Thank you Rahsheen...I'm like, "Mutilation? WTF???" - Admiral Anika
nope - RAPatton
Yes. One. - Jason Toney
yup. 5. - Jack Lhasa
No and definitely never will. - Rochelle
5. - David Cook
Hmmm. Wondering why the polarization. Do people look down harshly on those with ink? I'm still the same lovable Derrick on the inside. :( - Derrick
Derrick, as someone strongly on the "no" side, it's 100% personal for me. In other words, I don't look down on it or on people who choose to have tattoos. It's just definitely not for me and something I won't ever change my mind on. But if you want one or 100, go for it! - Rochelle
nope - Valley
Of course, Derrick. Tats and piercings are not really acceptable in our society. That's why you have to cover/remove them at most jobs. They don't want to offend anyone, dontcha know. - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
No, I understand, Rochelle. And a long sleeve shirt on me and you'd never know. Rah, I work at an art college; ink is almost a pre-req. ;) - Derrick
No I don't. But oddly, I always go through this back and forth about it. I even designed one with the notion that if I ever got one, THAT would be the one I'd get. I think I continue to hesitate for two main reasons. 1) Body image. I can't seem to find a place on my body that I feel would represent the tattoo and my body, well. 2) It's almost unusual to not have one anymore...and I kind of like that. I'll probably never do it. But I don't like never. - Cheryl
I agree with Rochelle and add, young skin is a wonderful canvas. Someday the expensive forms of art are just going to be buried in wrinkles. Tramp stamps can hinder a person from getting an epidural and some self inking contains materials that won't allow for MRI. I don't have aversion to artwork on someone other than myself. - Janet
Rahsheen, matters where you live. In Seattle, it's far more acceptable than it is in, say, Omaha. If you throw a rock in Seattle, you're likely to hit someone with a tattoo somewhere. Me? I'll never, ever have one. Sure, I've seen a few that I've liked but, for the most part, it's just a rotating parade of meaningless Celtic knots, Chinese characters, butterflies, fairies, and astrology symbols. If it's a form of self-expression, I guess a lot of people don't have anything original to express. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva is totally correct. The same is true in San Francisco; tatoos are pretty commonplace. My favorite quote is by Brian Setzer, I believe, who said to never have a tatoo where a judge can see it. :-) - Kenley Neufeld
For myself, my tattoos came about after going through a really rough and difficult part of my life. My mother had died, then my grandmother; people I was extremely close to. Each piece tells a story. Like a tree and their rings. - Derrick
Yes, and would like more. - Nurse Katie
Several. - Nine
No, and don't plan to. I think the human body is a work of art in and of itself, and any artificial human alteration is a conceptual "mutilation" of perfection. that said, what i don't understand about people with tatts is this notion that it's 'art.' every tattoo I've ever seen just looks butt-ugly--to me--of course it's all in the eye of the beholder, and i suppose some ink has personal meaning which only the owner will appreciate. to each his own. - .LAG liked that
the other thing: if you get a tattoo on your back, or butt, or anywhere on your body were you can't easily see it, is it really 'personal' art, or are you doing it for other people to see? i mean if you can't see it, in all it's glory, what's the point? - .LAG liked that
yes, a small blue lobster a designed myself. it has a lot of personal meaning. - Trent Olson
Bad tattoos suck. Mine happen to be the most awesome ever affixed to skin. So there. :) - Derrick
Derrick - pics please? - Janet
jlt - I'm on my iPhone but I posted some in my feed way back when. Anyone have any of my pics showing some skin? - Derrick
I have 2. People still tell me that they don't think I'm a tattoo person. "Doesn't the fact that I have two make me a tattoo person?" I ask. Apparently the answer is no. Whatever that means. I've never regretted the decision to permanently mark my body. And I specifically chose locations where I could see the tattoos anytime I like because, yes, they are for me and no one else. - ♥patricia♥
Yes. An owl. It was a 59th birthday gift. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
nope - Susan Beebe
Yes. 3. Plan on more. - Lynne d Johnson
One very pretty, tiny heart. Somewhere. ;) - MLx
