- Robert Scoble
But how can they afford an office, with no revenue? I thought everyone worked in a barn in Kentucky.
- Paul Holmes
laurasweet: that's Mark Zuckerberg's new parking spot. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Shoot. I was going to say "Because penguins are going to come over for a house party sponsored by MTV, Bud Light and Jack Daniels". Partying Penguins can Produce a Predicament.
- geekazine
Scoble, why don't you buy a winnebago and ask if you can park in their parking spot?
- Ahmed
Paul: Facebook has a lot of revenue. Not sure where you got that they have no revenue.

LOL is this the address? 131 Lytton Avenue Palo Alto, California 94301

Alan: when I travel around the world people are enamored of Facebook. In Israel kids were giddy over Facebook. To them Zuckerberg is a new hero and they'd love to visit Facebook's headquarters. Will that last? I don't know, but it's definitely true now.

Mo: Because Twitter is changing EVERYTHING about business and search.
- Robert Scoble
I agree, though I don't think it'll destroy MS.
- Mo Kargas
truth is, of course google is trying to buy them. if not, they are dumb. and, they are not dumb. same with MS. question is, will they sell? i bet the price has reached youtube proportions. and, it should. twitter is gold.
- lew
Mo: Which part? Core to Google is owning search. Everything they do is about collecting data. Twitter is an emerging piece of the real-time search puzzle. Go get a job as janitor or whatever you can get at Twitter. One of these guys is going to overpay handsomely.
- Christian Anderson
@Christian Yes I understand Google's interest in keeping search and hence twitter, but I fail to see the MS link. MS's search experiments have always been small potatoes. Has Google ever seen MS as a solid search competitor?
- Mo Kargas
The problems Microsoft has have little to do with what twitter does or could do for them.
- Beau Giles
Blah Blah Blah... Microsoft has stock in Facebook. WAY more powerful than twitter if it was retooled a bit.
- geekazine
from twhirl
Mo: Ah, the MS part. MS wants to be a player in search in a very big way. MS desperately wants to grow share. We saw that with the Yahoo mess. MS missed the horizontal bus, but wants vertical/real-time/semantic to catch up to Google -- playing a slightly different game.
- Christian Anderson
You just had to watch Mike's body language during the event tonight to see something was up. He is far too visible to make something up out of whole cloth. I believe his sources are correct.
- Louis Gray
Louis: Mike is usually right and I'm usually wrong when it comes to rumors. He has good sources. I do note that he updated his post later to note that they are "early" in process, rather than late.
- Robert Scoble
I still don't buy the idea that 'real time' microblog search is all that valuable. If they buy them, it'll be for other reasons. Then again, like with Digg, GOOG might decide it's not worth it. There is value in getting all those addicted users, but the search part, I just don't see it.
- Ray Cromwell
I really hope the term "microblog" dies this year. We're really just talking about conversations. "Real time search" is just the ability to find conversations related to the topics you're interested in while they're going on, rather than after the fact after the party's over.
- Ken Sheppardson
Google acquiring Twitter would simply be for branding purposes. Twitter is supplementary. Period. Plus, Microsoft has a share in Facebook. Tit for tat.
- Mona Nomura
I enjoy the fact that you don't like the word microblogging either. I've disliked the term for a while.
- Richard A.
Mona: or Google would buy it to keep it out of Microsoft's hands. But there is SOME value in the search for Google.
- Robert Scoble
Hmmm...like Google meshing Twitter trends, with Google trends and integrating that into news, blog search, and even Google analytics. I wonder if that would just contribute to the echo though. Interesting.
- Mona Nomura
I think that there are 2 things that are interesting for google with regard to twitter. Getting his hands on the real time data and protect against anyone using that to change the search game but also access to a powerful brand they can grow like they did with youtube. I think that twitter+youtube could lead into very interesting experiments. The risk is that they got blogger and were not really able to do anything interesting. Wordpress is kicking their butt.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Because it's better to have smaller companies working independently rather than one behemoth. Plurk has some interesting features that I would like to see on more popular websites. I especially like the "Mute" function where you mute single threads
- Richard A.
Surprised there aren't cynics chiming in to say that google would buy Twitter to kill real time search (or at least control / hamstring it) "do no evil" is holding up?
- Christian Anderson
We already know Google likes to be as fast as possible. No point in the "kill realtime search" conspiracies.
- Richard A.
If I were Steve Ballmer, I'd buy Twitter and tightly integrate it into the Windows and Windows Mobile operating systems - well, if the U.S. government and the EU would let me (and they might, if other OS users could access Twitter in the current way, or if Microsoft struck a deal with SUSE, etc.). Imagine microblogging incorporated into the OS...very social.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
Christian - look what Twitter is and think about what it's used for.
- Mona Nomura
The problem with the idea of searching twitter conversations, is there for the most part, they're a vastly inferior source of information compared to other channels. The timeliness cuts both ways, because the instant chatter and 140 character limit probably leads to statements with a higher error rate and less relevance, compared to someone composing a blog post or email. Can someone post a URL to a twitter search that actually returns something more useful than what I can already find on Google?
- Ray Cromwell
That's the best thing that can happen to us. Forcing common sense and critical thinking to assess and draw your own conclusions. Personally, I'm all for it.
- Mona Nomura
Ray, one advantage of a tweet's length is that it is almost guaranteed to be topical. I can write a blog post about Iran, and possibly wander through half a dozen other topics. If I tweet about Iran, there's more of a chance that the tweet will focus on Iran.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
I just tried searching for 'iran' on Twitter vs Google News and Google Blog Search. The results for Twitter were not encouraging. Everytime a Twitter search story pops up on TC, I go and try Twitter search again, and every time, I fail to find anything of use compared to numerous other resources. I understand the argument, I just think the people who write thoughtful tweets are few and far between, lost in the noise.
- Ray Cromwell
During Microsoft's recent Mix09 conference Twitter was by far the number one channel of real-time conversation. I see quite a few Microsoft employees on Twitter too. Move Twitter to the Google column and Microsoft collectively will have to rethink its use of Twitter.
- Loren Heiny
Ken Sheppardson, there is a difference between "microblogging" and "conversations". With microblogging, no one considers you weird if you're talking to no one in particular, which is what a lot of microblogging is. With a conversation, if you're talking to no one in particular, you're talking to yourself, and people avoid you on the bus.
- Andy Bakun
microsoft is already f***ed, I am actually worried about twitter
- Jayavasanthan J
would this be the same friend who called Chrome "nothing less than a full on desktop operating system that will compete head on with Windows" etc. ad nauseam?
- Karim
The supposition here is that Microsoft is somehow dependant on the web here. MSFT is a viable SOFTWARE company first, and a web platform/search/cloud/whatever company SECOND. The suggestion that Google would kill MSFT is insane. MSFT cannot hope to beat Google at search. Google has won and the games are closed. Twitter is just the icing on the cake and, ergo, has no impact on MSFT.
- Roberto Bonini
also, is this the same Microsoft with $60 billion in revenues, 28% profit margin, $20 billion dollars in the bank, the one that's still paying a dividend while companies like GM and AIG go insolvent? *That* Microsoft? Or is there a more fucked Microsoft out there? :-D

I'd like to say "jesus Dave, not everything is a business model" -- except, well, look at what JoVE is being forced to do. I worry about the future of FriendFeed because I like it so much.

My #1 will *always* be Coyote Ugly. It made me want to go on a rampage through Hollywood. #2 would be Hollywood Homicide #3 is 50 First Dates tied with Spanglish.

I like The Ninth Gate, but didn't like Event Horizon at all (too graphic etc). One movie I couldn't finish was Fair Game: http://www.imdb.com/title...

Ever is a bit of a big call, but I'd say the "Ghost Rider" with Nicholas Cage was possibly the WORST movie I've seen recently. OH, and Lions for Lambs with Tom Cruise and Merryl Streep was also a HUGE waste of my time. Normally I have a pretty good premonition that a movie will be crap, and am able to avoid it. Oh, and I loved Coyote Ugly. Trick is watch it with the sound muted. Problem Solved.
- Will Higgins™
No, I'm a not Adam 'Look at me do Drama" Sandler Fan. I loved Happy Gilmore and the Wedding Singer. But 50 First Dates gave me the heebie-jeebies and Spanglish was just all around stupid.
- Admiral Anika
Embee, I can't hate on White Chicks only because of that scene in the car when the football player guy started singing that song. Otherwise yes, it's 98% awful.
- Admiral Anika
Anika, I once watched Weekend at Bernie's in Sweden subtitled in Swedish. The Ethiopians I was hanging with, kept looking at me and my friend like we were to blame that mess. They kept pausing the movie to ask about references. It was shameful.
- Admiral Anika
hahaha...I liked Weekend at Bernie's. Finally, I found someone who hates Spanglish as much as I do!

Toss up of either Rock N Roll Mom, or Surf Nazi's Must Die. Although the 30 minutes I actually watched The Love Guru may trump them both.

Highlander 3 (note i did not see Highlander 1 or 2, but no matter what the case there's no way this wasn't the worst movie ever.)

@Steve Trust me, Highlander 2 was worse than 3. In 2 they made him a freakin ALIEN. WTH?!
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
There have been three or four movies in the last year that I couldn't make past the first 10 minutes or so, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Superbad.
- Mistletoe Glen
"Used Cars". Grossly overboard 1980 film, so of course it went on the become a TV series that lasted three or four episodes. When you really need to be assured that your life could be worse, watch this film. http://www.imdb.com/title... Oh yeah, Grandpa Al Lewis was in it too.
- Mark Edwards
Yikes, I like a lot of you guyses worst movies. Especially the Ninth Gate. I can't say worst of all time because it fluctuates, but Titanic, Wizard of Oz and Cloverfield all sprang to mind immediately. But for various reasons. "Oz" I don't consider a terrible movie it just doesn't work for me at all. The other two are pants.
- Joe Pierce
By far, and not even with a close second comes Ishtar.
- Mike Seidle
The Stupids, only movie that I felt like leaving half-way through.
- Rui Pereira
Knocked Up and Starsky & Hutch were also godawful movies. At least from S&H, we got, "Hey! You! Do it!"

One of the worst movies ever has to be "Leonard Pt. 6" w/Bill Cosby. It was so bad, even HE went on TV telling everyone not to go see it :)

Worst movie? The Addams Family. I walked out halfway through - and I'm a big fan of Addams' New Yorker cartoons. The movie was awful. I was surprised that I liked the sequel - Addams Family Values - as much as I did.

Joe vs. The Volcano. Instead of dying when jumping into a pit a lava.. he's spit out into the sea... where his luggage is floating?????

Batman & Robin, for sure. Unless it's Harvard Man, a horrible piece of tripe that forever cured me of watching every film that Buffy alumni were in. Of course, if you want to get into movies that are so bad they're good, I gotta start with Troll 2 and Plan 9 from Outer Space, which are simultaneously the worst and awesomest films I've ever seen.

Oh I got another one, but I don't remember the name. I think it was Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu....something & Ecks. Something vs Ecks? Whatever, it sucked balls.
- Admiral Anika
@Anika, that would be "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever" Never saw it, either. Looked as if it would be ball-sucky to me from the previews.
- Joey Gibson
That you, Joey. My husband was not going to let the opportunity of seeing Liu in skintight clohting pass him by. He thought Banderas would be a draw for me. Wrong.
- Admiral Anika
@Anika: I like Who's That Girl as a "So Bad It's Good" movie. :) It's one of the movies I watched because it was repeated on HBO so much. My brother and I both liked watching it, but I'm sure if I watched it again now (which I considered doing recently!) it would be pretty awful story-wise. :) As for worst movies I've seen in recent memory, I'd have to list In the Cut, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil 2 (forgot the name of it). I liked RE1 and thought RE3 was much better than 2.
- Cheryl Jones
"Zombie Strippers!" Yes... it's real. Yes, I watched it. Why? Well... I like strippers and I like zombies, but who could have guessed it would make such an awful combo?

this does not surprise me. i have spent a lot of time in industrial companies and email is the most advanced tech that has traction. can't even get secure sharepoint sites to get traction with execs!

I just can't believe it. Do these people live under a rock?
- Happy
It would have been a surprise if they had. Good job Robert is on hand to spread the word.

There was a seminar on social media and communications in Toronto last night and a few people had never heard of Twitter, either. Is it really surprising or are we just to immersed in it?
- Bonnie Dean
It took me years to get around to wanting to use Twitter. I read about it regularly at Coding Horror (ex: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog...) for at least a year but I just didn't see the point. I finally registered because I wanted to reply to a friend's tweet. I think for a lot of people it's more of a reticence to join social networks than plain technophobia.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
This is not surprising. Recall that John McCain does not even use email. And I am sure most, if not all, of these "top" executives are part of McCain's generation.
- Joe Lima
I haven't touched Qik/Seesmic/Kyte because I can't work out the difference. Not surprised most won't have heard of them or Twitter

Make a list of top execs who do know about social media.
- stefan hyttfors
Not Surprising, I'd consider myself fairly Tech savvy and although i've been registered for ages i only just started Tweeting. Although given the publicity it's had in the last few weeks i'm slightly surprised.
- Jamie Vidamour
but i guess they know about Facebook ? well, i think twitter is more for more tech people
- Junal Rahman
Do you think their assistants know about those technologies? My understanding of CEO responsibility is that they have to think on a super broad and strategic level. Many of those technologies are about integrating tiny pieces of information into something bigger. Since that's not really their job, I would think those services would be off the CEO's radar until they have an impact at that high level. Right?
- David Wynn
from fftogo
Our CMO @BestBuyCMO relayed a similar experience at a CMO dinner he was one or two of 10+ who knew about the tools and he certainly was the top user of them.
- Ben Hedrington
It's not surprising, if you think about it, but it's still unfortunate. Top executives are hardly "the mainstream" and if they're not in tech or marketing, those types of communication are not foremost in their minds. I know one chief exec. of a Fortune 1000 company who still has his "important" emails (as determined by his assistant) printed out and put on his desk every day.
- Robert Clockedile
from twhirl
This does not surprise me in the least. Yes, awareness is growing but anyone who assumes that our social media world has "made it' to mainstream is unclear on the concept.
- Cathy Brooks
from twhirl
I've never expected top executives to have a clue about anything. They're just a figure head for the company. They pay others around them to do the grunt work.
- Chris Luckhardt
What a surprise!! Here in Brazil I've asked to my friends and coworkers and nobody knew about Twitter. Well, some of my friends don't even check e-mails account daily...
- Flavio Knopp
it goes to show that twitter, kyte, friendfeed, etc... haven't really hit the mainstream yet... user adoption will always be a problem no matter what platform or software is out there.
- Dejim Juang
What is the point of Twitter, Kyte etc when hundreds of thousands of people are losing their jobs and we are in global economic crisis? Don't these top execs have bigger issues at hand? Are we drinking too much social media coolade in these times?
- Andy Oliver
Dejim: I would not consider 30 executives not knowing about Twitter to equate to these services not being in the mainstream. It you ever worked with "top" executives, you'd be amazed by how much "mainstream" knowledge they really lack.
- Joe Lima
That's not suprising. I still have to ask "Do you know what Twitter is?"
- geekazine

I'm doing a Social Media 101 seminar in a few weeks for entrepreneurs who haven't touched linkedin.com, facebook, or twitter. Seminar is full. We'll likely do 2 or 3 more. I'm not surprised at your group's ignorance.
- Shelley Cadamy
I'm a publisher in medical technology market data and I continue to be stunned at how much behind the tech curve my audience of medtech companies is. Their rate of adoption of social media, like their adoption of new information technologies, lags at the same rate as physicians, who are traditionally slow to adopt any new technologies other than medical technologies.
- Patrick Driscoll
Top *executives*? No surprise there, unless they're *tech* executives. Gates or Dell not knowing would be worrying, but should a boss at Exxon or Rolls-Royce (the aero engine company) know or care any more than we'd know or care about distillate refining or FADEC aero engine controllers?
- James
I don't think we are drunk on social media when we say that in spite of the downturn and maybe because of it, we need to look at the enormous possibilities of social media at the very least as a brand loyalty mechanism(ie I am more apt to subscribe to products from companies/ people that I have a more intimate relationship with).
- Phillip
The other issue with non tech executives not tuned in is their reluctance to accept ideas that don't have a direct and obvious connection to ROI. I have to admit (and I'm not blowing my horn) that during the pre-internet heydey, I felt like Tom Hanks in "Big" raising my hand to say, "I don't get it". Then, I couldn't understand why website traffic mattered more than revenue.
- Patrick Driscoll
Recently, I spoke with a colleague of mine, a university professor of linguistics known as geek. I asked if someone is studying tweets' peculiar language and style from a scientific point of view. "Twitter?" he said, "Microblogging? never heard before". A geek, they say. Well...
- PaperDoll
There's a whole tendency in social media toward rapidly accepting what's at the front edge of development, while at the back end, product managers, sales/marketing and other grunts are just struggling to hit their numbers. They don't live and breathe the latest info tool -- they live and breathe their own product.
- Patrick Driscoll
OK, I'm hogging the airwaves, but one last point. When I look at new medical technologies emerging in the market, I have to bring in two very important perspectives: the opinion-leading early adopters (docs at universities or highly visible MD-consultants to industry) and the regular practicing physician working in the trenches of daily care. Social media evangelists would have me pay much more attention (I'm simplifying a bit) to the opinion-leaders.
- Patrick Driscoll
I can understand that they don't know about Qik or Kyte, even I don't and I spend a lot of time on Twitter and FriendFeed...
- Odi Kosmatos
I don't think that social media is so important that everyone MUST take part in it. If I had more of a life (was a busy doctor or exec.), twitter and friendfeed would be the last thing that I would do in my spare time -especially twitter.
- BEX
Ok, twitter might be something they need to know, but Kyte? Qik? Far too early for both of them to be at executive level of a non-tech company.

I can belive Qik and Kyte. But Twitter. That is tough. Of course my CEO doesn't know what SEO is.
- John Flynn
Robert, that does seem strange. But then I see smaller co's. and non-profits jumping into Twitter, FB,etc. faster. My theory is because start-ups and NP's are open to the pool of university student volunteer workers, interns, and beginners out there who are more saavy in this area.

Non-tech CEOs is not surprising. However, depending on the kind of executive not knowing at least 1 like Twitteer may be troubling. For example if they are media companies or telecom companies then that is a more troubling thought than say the executive for a manufacturing company. Ultimately the lack of knowledge is a reflection of the type of talent they recruit and how that impacts their corporate culture now and in the future.

nonsurprising.. some of my teammates don't know about twitter. none of them know about qik. and i never heard of kyte!
- Ihar Mahaniok
in a nutshell, yes, its taking attention to satisfaction away from blogging, its an easier, low cost to entry way to your mind out on the web
- Dan Rockwell
from twhirl
Blogging is, and always has been, just cheap and easy content creation and management which is pretty different to Twitter. Twitter basically replaces the role of blogs for some of the things that people used to use blogs for when they first appeared - dashing off quick links, status updates, and so on. And disagreeing with Robert, i think it's worth thinking of the two things as separate - they'll play different roles in communications in the future.
- Ian Betteridge
Twitter is microblogging, Twitter enhances blogging and Twitter can be used separately from a blogging platform for many specific tasks, including blogging. Sure, they are separate, but they work together and reinforce each other.
- Chris Loft
I don't think this is a competition, it's quite hard to resume a blog post in a couple of twitter messages and, at the same time, be relevant ... especially when people following you are already following tens, hundreds, <number here> of people!
- Lucian Nicolescu
Twitter is Blogging for the ADD crowd - 140 characters and in 2 days you forget what was said
- geekazine
from twhirl
Agree with Rutger. Friendfeed is more of a blog killer...
- Håkan Dahlström
No, not really: Can I write a 500 word post on FriendFeed? FF is a blog *comment* killer, but that's only part of the story with blogging.
- Ian Betteridge
from twhirl
Ian, it all depends what you want to achieve. If you want to create a discussion or debate I think you can bring it on Friendfeed directly instead of a blog with disqus. The author of the FF-post can if necessary post additional comments to further develop a statement. This is something you see Scoble doing more and more these days.
- Rutger Blom
Rutger, good point. As I mentioned, blogging is really "just" cheap, easy content creation/management. The discussion element is, to my mind secondary - not in the sense of being unimportant, but not really at the core of what defines it. And, of course, what you're describing is basically a freeform discussion forum :)
- Ian Betteridge
from twhirl
Ian, that's true. I agree with you that as things are now Friendfeed is a bigger threat to Disqus/Intense Debate than to blogging platforms, but I can see how that can change just by adding one or two more features to Friendfeed.
- Rutger Blom
Twitter is nothing more than IRC, sure a lot of people think it's microblogging but that's only because they use it five minutes a day. Blogging is more interesting than ever now. Friendfeed and the way it's used show how interesting blogging is at this moment. Show me a person that uses twitter as passionately and I may believe twitter is killing blogs.
- Richard A.
Yes: FriendFeed could evolve into a really interesting blogging platform, if that's the direction they want to take - or, of course, offer better integration to existing platforms.
- Ian Betteridge
from twhirl
No, it's helping. Link sharing is the de facto way to be a good community member. The 140 character field is a perfect teaser, and the link is perfect to extend the conversation. FriendFeed is a wonderful enhancement to this process as well.
- timedalkat
from twhirl
Why are we still having this discussion? Microblogging is here to stay. Twitter and Friendfeed *can* make you smarter bloggers. But so can any time you spend away from your own blog and focus on *others* and their work. Seriously.
- Barbara K. Baker
It is killing link blogs and "superficial" blog uses, so overall probably helping in terms of substance and quality.
- Randy Holloway
from twhirl
@randy, so it's keeping those that shouldn't blog too busy to post ;-)
- Richard A.
Both Twitter and FriendFeed are sources for information. If you know how to use them, it can enhance your blog. So I don't think Twitter nor FriendFeed are blog killers. I'd say it's the opposite.
- Umit Namli
I don't think so. Two very different media encouraging different types of interface. I think they are complimentary rather than antagonistic.
- Martha
For me FF did (Twitter not so much) -- I used blogging as a catharsis and found FF fufilled that need so I stopped blogging - http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Brian Sullivan
twitter enhances blogging it creates conversations , it stimulates ideas , people share knowledge
- johnpiercy
Umit: it's always worth remembering that media doesn't just serve as source of information, but also engagement through entertainment. People like commenting, because it entertains.
- Ian Betteridge
from twhirl
True Ian.Guess it all depends on how you use Twitter and FriendFeed. But if you'd ask me "Is Twitter killing blogs and blogging", my answer would be "No".
- Umit Namli
Robert - Twitter is a Micro Blog and it gets people talking. This is good for society. I don't believe Twitter hurts blogging - it just enhances it.
- Rob Cairns
Doesn't this depend on how people are using this? I liken this to CNN Headline News vs. The Newshour with Jim Leher...if you want the quick hit of info. to share and/or discover, Twitter is a great platform; alternatively, if you want to dive into a deeper conversation, research, experience, blogs play that role.
- Christian
Robert, Madagascar is going through troubles now. So many people are awaiting for news but events are feeding too fast: Malagasy people is discovering Twitter and FriendFeed's power as writing blog articles take long time and you need to find many infos in ONE page. You can visit http://twitter.com/Madagas... and http://friendfeed.com/rooms...
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
I usually don't have time to maintain my old blog, but I think twitter allows me to share to the community anyway. Combining twitter with sites that allow for comments and discussions give me more value than posting a blog that hardly anyone reads...
- Frode Stenstrøm
I post my tweets on my blog so I see it as an adjunct.
- Phil Boiarski
so twitter as blogging is therefore committing suicide ~ ie this person's next blog post. Ie. someone missed the mark by a long shot.
- sofarsoShawn
I think that it is. It has killed my blogs. Twitter is a lot more interactive and fun.
- Adam Jackson
Twitter is interactive live blogging but I won't say it's killing blogging. Twitter is to blogging what a video clip is to a feature film.
- Donald Townsend
from twhirl
Killing blogging, no way. I personally think its taking blogging to an all new level. Not only can you promote blogs on twitter, the readers can now interact with you in a entirely new way. Twitter fills the cracks that the blog leaves behind.
- Sloan Bowman
I've dabbled with "full-blown" blogging but most days don't have the time to write "essays". Or anything to say that's worth that number of words. I like Twitter for its immediacy and the way it makes you express the thought succinctly. Equally I like FF for being somewhere between the two. "Medium" blogging rather than full blown or micro. It's a mood thing yanno.
- CdL Creative
Twitter is blogging -- just 140 chars per chunk.
- David Feng
If we agree that the predominant consumption of blogs is via RSS (as opposed to visiting the site) - then blogs are indeed being superceded (by all the tools that allow you to share media - whether Twitter, Digg, Youtube or Seesmic). They all end up being posts in an RSS feed mashed and consumed in increasingly sophisticated ways.
- Jim
the one evolution that social networking services like FriendFeed and Twitter have over blogs is that we really can't see who's interested in our stuff. we can track RSS views, but we've no idea who they are.
- Jason Salas
from IM
Jason very true.. no easy way to monetize and measure. Athough I think Friendfeed has the right idea with its stats feature and this may be a the next step for Google Analytics/Feedburner. Perhaps this is why the growth and popularity of social network is proportional to the richness and openness of the their APIs.
- Jim
Jim - the closer we get the traditional media demographic data, coupled with the new metrics, the real value of social apps will really shine through
- Jason Salas
The days of stand-alone blogs as a primary revenue source are over
- Bob Sonin
Gotta stick with HNC even without milk (or cows)... incidentally they make great alarm systems if you disperse them properly about the defense perimeter, though may not work on smoke monsters.
- Adrian
I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but you're all wrong. Alpen is the correct answer.
- Chris Nixon
I'd have "Get me the hell out of here-O's" or Weetbix. Not because Weetbix is good to eat, but I'm pretty sure you could make a raft out of it.
- Will Higgins™
My favorite cereals are the Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the Resse Peanut Butter Cup cereal. God, those are sugary.

Happy birthday Robert, have a wonderul weekend!
- Ginger Kenney

Have a great birthday, Robert. Saw it on Facebook, and was just in GMail where I saw your status. But it makes the most sense to say so here!
- Louis Gray
Thanks to @scoble for winning the award for FF
- Admiral70
There was a Scoble Puppet on the Live Ustream of Crunchies. It said it was him, said funny stuff about the nominees not being based on primary colors in their logo, tweets by employees, it was cute.
- mandyvan

- Robert Scoble

- Robert Scoble
What kind of wine goes with bribe? Did you ask GaryVee while in Vegas?
- Dave Cadoff
9. Talk shit about that Scoble dude. Yeah, me. Sometimes it gets a link and a follow. Especially if you teach me something while you are calling me an idiot.
- Robert Scoble
LOL *hands Robert a bottle of wine* Please add the "don't pout or make a twitter fuss when you notice someone drops you. Insecurity isn't a attraction"
- Sprite
10. Be interesting. Craig Newmark got hundreds of follows in first evening (I was the first to follow him) after I tweeted about him. Why? Because he was interesting already.
- Robert Scoble
Remember it's not about the followers - it's about the relationships. Your purpose of having many followers should be so you can build relationships with as many of them as possible.
- Jesse Stay
11. Do something sensational like tatoo your twitter address onto your face.
- Robert Scoble
BTW, (real-life) relationships then bring more followers
- Jesse Stay

- Robert Scoble
Liked for the 'talk shit about Scoble'. Also, Scoble, do you accept Mead?
- Will Higgins™
12. Hang out with Jesse Stay. Better yet, bring him to Twitter's headquarters for an interview (that's what I did and it worked).

- Robert Scoble
22. get on Leo Laporte's show and have him order his listeners to follow you. He did this last Sunday to my son and you should have seen the followers roll in. That dude has POWER!!!

- Robert Scoble
Quit Twitter, come back after 2 months
- Jesse Stay
All bloggers are wrong at least every few posts. Especially me! :D
- MarkCarras
30. Follow more interesting people. That's why I've said for a year now it's most important who you follow, not who is following you. What I really was trying to say there is if you want better followers you've got to follow better people.
- Robert Scoble
lol Jesse. Twitter? What's that? I thought I was learning how to sell a shamwow
- Erin @queenofspain
What kind of wine are we talking here?
- Chris Poirier

32. Invite Louis Gray over for dinner. Make sure he brings his twins. Take pictures. 1000 extra points if you bring shirts for the twins with your Twitter address on them.
- Robert Scoble
34. Chris Saad is right. Speaking of Chris, if you party with him in Amsterdam you'll get more followers. Oh, and if you are the guy who wrote http://www.twittervision.com you'll get more followers.

I buy dinner for anyone who comes to my area and contacts me through Twitter...and is following me. :D
- MarkCarras
I find that not following people back increases the rate at which I gain followers
- Simon T Small
Simon: being Robert Scoble is pretty hard. You've gotta keep coming up with new ways to find followers. It's easier to call him an asshole on twitter. Even better, call him, TechCrunch, 1938media, JasonCalacanis, Guy Kawasaki, and a few other people assholes.
- Robert Scoble
37. Jeremiah Owyang found this one: stop Twittering.
- Robert Scoble
I'm amazed I don't get called an asshole more often. I think this should be my New Years Resolution. :D
- MarkCarras
38. Follow someone, then when they don't follow you back, call them out on it and say they are lame.
- Robert Scoble
39. Come up with a new Twitter game. Get it retweeted by Chris Brogan.

- Ian D. Nock
40. Pay Magpie to spam everyone with your Twitter address.
- Robert Scoble
Oh don't tell people to talk shit about you. It's kinda sad to see people talking crap about you, then when you're some place they are, they turn all fanboy.

Robert: wait, not change in plans, I don't hate those people, damn it!
- Simon T Small

44. Come up with a new set of rules for Twitter behavior.
- Robert Scoble
Oh boy, Mr. Scoble. I hope you are not Tweeting while getting drunk and having sex... Poor Mommy and son... Some things need to stay sacred. Do you really want the world at large to know what you are doing at all times? Quit goofing and send us more tech info we enjoy. Great videos from CES by the way. - Mona Nomura
Chris: Influence is gold, like it, am tuned

This post alone lets me see the value of FriendFeed over Twitter for conversations. Glad the list above isn't documentation of your personal twitter conquest, but a record of some of the looneyness of Twitter follower greediness
- Paul Povolni
52. Move to SF and go to every. single. Tweet-up! YAY HOW FUN!
- Mona Nomura
Scott: I don't know that this list helped me that much. But, how about a list of things that will get rid of followers? I bet that one would work better.
- Robert Scoble
53. Set text alerts for Brightkite and follow all the huge Tweeter's comings and goings - show up and SUBTLY introduce yourself so you'll be name dropped. Keyword = SUBTLY

54. Go to every single conference and shamelessly pass out your Twitter in lieu of email!
- Mona Nomura
Streak at the Supebowl with your twitter name on your front and back(side)

- Robert Scoble
Name drop as much as you can and do whatever it takes to get written up on ValleyWag (wow, I've learned a lot in six months!)

- Chris Saad
Mona, Facebook and Flickr tag them as well
- Jesse Stay
Always respond to people with an "@" ie: @scobelizer WOW this thread RULES - since you never know what Google's indexing!
- Mona Nomura
Dieter: Huh? If anything this post would be sponsored by Seagate. You can follow them at http://friendfeed.com/seagate (Seagate sponsors my video show, not my friendfeed account).
- Robert Scoble
Mona: 'post famous pictures' Love it. Works a charm on facebook.
- Simon T Small
i have a new one: use Browser bugs to greet your blogvisitors with their twittername http://is.gd/eMdF @andreasklinger

- Jesse Stay
Chris Saad: yer talkin crazy with that last one. Focus on content? Insanity.
- Scott Kingery

- Robert Scoble
56. Don't auto-DM followers just follow them back or RT their next tweet
- Damian Holmes
Find a unique thing that you can help another Twitter user on - the bigger the user, the better. Fix their problem.
- Jesse Stay
So did @HeavyAsHell Oh wait, that's my site. :D
- MarkCarras
57. post a comment to a robert scoble FF feed
- Damian Holmes
Luke: T-shirts are so common. How about shoes? Jeans? Underwear? Don Box used to have his company logo on underwear. Called them "Boxer shorts." I still remember those, even though I've forgotten all the lame Tshirts I've ever gotten.
- Robert Scoble
Only a slut is going to be able to advertise well with branded underwear
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Compete for the most followers on Twitter - didn't Leo and Calacanis do that at one time? (or am I getting the contenders wrong?)
- Jesse Stay
58. write your twitter name on your eyelids then go to a tweetup or large tech conference
- Damian Holmes
MiniMage: not true. Don Box is no slut. He now runs a team at Microsoft.
- Robert Scoble
Be an early adopter - be one of the first, get in early, and build a follow base early
- Jesse Stay
Another one? Take pictures of Twitter users and follow them. They almost always follow back.
- Robert Scoble
I aint never heard of Don Box, and that means I didn't see that underwear! ;). No, seriously, I concede, but I had to make a retort.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
I think a good way to make more friends is to live an interesting life. Life is a journey. You meet people just around every corner. Twitter happens to be one of them.
- Helge V. Keitel
Build up and help out a non-A list, but up-and-coming A or B list Twitter user or blogger. They will be more appreciative (it's those people that like the shirts and swag).
- Jesse Stay
Tweet something like this: "I'm looking for funny people to follow, do you know any?"
- Robert Scoble
Get @gapingvoid to use your twitter address in one of his cartoons (he designed my business cards and you would be amazed how well that works).
- Robert Scoble
@Mona use a hot suggestive silhouette as your avatar - that alwasy helps too
- Chris Saad
Take Louis Gray to a Vodka bar. You might not get any followers, but you will have a good time and he doesn't drink so you'll have a safe drive home, too!
- Robert Scoble
follow A, B, C, D, E, F, X and Z listers
- Damian Holmes
Create a custom T-shirt with "I Love Your Stream" (mine) on front(or your own words) and your Twitter name on back. I did it with @crypticfragment at zazzle.com. Still waiting for it. I didn't put twitter name on back though, should have, but not trying to gain HUGE followers, just the ones that would like to hear about furniture, interior design and eco home stuff! I put: twitter:FTW, on the back.
- Leslie Carothers
Robert, not to mention get on the front of Valleywag
- Jesse Stay
I keep hiding this but it doesn't stay hidden. :(
- Mona Nomura
Follow the Top 500 in your City then Top 500 in your Country that's at least 500 follow backs
- Damian Holmes
Jesse: I find that I get a lot of followers by keeping the A list on the A list. Who wants to deal with those assholes if they fall onto the B list?
- Robert Scoble
I'm with @garyvee & how he encourages us to *execute the best YOU* - don't try to be anyone else but the *best* you... your passionate self. Peeps who resonate with you will follow. And for sure add value, retweet good resources, build peeps up, thank those who comment on your blog & RT you.
- Mari Smith
58. Post to a list to get people to follow you. such as the one explaining how to get people to follow you...
- Sheraz Mahmood
Name drop Hollywood celebrities even if you don't know them.
- Mona Nomura
By the way, I'm following everyone who has participated on this so far. Why? Because only geeks would be online on a Saturday night and I want to follow all the geeks. So, everyone here has at least one follower on friendfeed.
- Robert Scoble
write a dramatic post about a family from Romania with a child with down syndrome and ask people to donate money.

Robert: You'll need to unfollow me, its 6pm Sunday here in Aussieland, so I'm not a commited geek sorry
- Simon T Small
Robert: Gotta do something while Windows 7 downloads :)

60. Get on FriendFeed and Twitter super early and become de facto popular. And yes, #32 is a must.
- Louis Gray
Robert: were not all in Silicon Valley - its 16:30 in China - (awaiting the flames or unfollows - which is worst?)
- Damian Holmes
... and always listen to Scoble! Ha-ha. Robert, we admire you!
- Alan Kodzasov
Another tip: Don't live in Australia nearly NOBODY here is on Twitter
- Simon T Small
Compliment the crap out of "A-listers" and always laugh at all of their jokes. Make sure to add at least seven exclamation points. ie:"LOL!!!!!!!!!!" to stand out from the crowd.
- Mona Nomura
Note: above only works if you participate in every. single. one of their posts on both Twitter and FriendFeed!
- Mona Nomura
Robert: 5:30 pm in Tokyo. I'm pretty much just getting going for the day. :-)
- Ken Brady
Say something that makes a 200 + comment thread ;)
- videopixil
When you send bribes, make sure to research. ie: LG doesn't drink but Robert likes wine. Subtly ask for preferences so they'll get something they actually _like_ <--KEY.
- Mona Nomura
Use Tweetdeck and apply filters to see subjects you are expert in. You'll notice lots of people look for advice in certain fields so you can reply and show your expertise. I notice those people you help are happy and more likely to follow you even if you don't follow them.
- Luca Filigheddu
from fftogo
@videopixil Of course, that applies to most things Scoble says.
- Ken Brady
@tkpleslie says," Ask people like @scobleizer sincere question about whether Nokia's new phone works for people, like me, that wear hearing aids when's he's in Japan in middle of your night at the actual Nokia conference where phone is being intro'd for first time. He did respond, nicely, but did not follow so I guess it doesn't work too well.
- Leslie Carothers
Send Mona lego art wrapped in bacon. Oh wait, that'll get you friendfeed follows.
- Yuvi
This was before I really understood as @marismith says, that true value in twitter for me is having followers and following those people with intersecting paths because, like in real life, that's how interesting real conversations have a chance to develop into fuller, deeper, more lasting relationships.
- Leslie Carothers
Robert, It's Sunday Morning in Loviisa, Finland ;)
- Helge V. Keitel
Leslie: I did follow you here on friendfeed. I still haven't been able to find out if it works well for hearing impaired. I'm sure it does, though. The speaker phone on that device is pretty darn good.
- Robert Scoble
Speak in SAT verbiage at all times to make yourselves sound smarter.
- Mona Nomura
Never admit: ay kin knot reed end rite... :(

- Chris Loft
Post YouTube clips of classical music to make yourself seem more cultured.

- Ryan
mention yourself on Scobles friendfeed (@mattrendo)
- Matt Rendo
Keep up with memes since everyone wants to hear what's been repeated on the web a trillion times without contributing a new opinion. ie: CES looks cool.
- Mona Nomura
All great points. I've always hated requests for follows. I'm only attempting something like it for charity. In that instance, those who do the same should be very clear about WHY they want followers in the first place. Otherwise it looks like you're just in it for yourself.
- Brandon Mendelson
Chris Loft: everything said about me is absolutely true! :-)
- Robert Scoble
So it's true that you have huge... giant... socks?
- Chris Saad
Thanks for the follow here on FriendFeed, Robert. I know this is where you interact. But,because home base for me is Twitter, I never saw your follow here until I went to comment on this thread! It's too much for me to constantly go back and forth and also keep up with work, life, friends and family. How do you guys do it? Thanks, tho, Robert, for letting me know. I learn from you ALL the time.
- Leslie Carothers
I really am not obsessed with more followers. Sure I appreciated them as much as the next person. It is not a popularity contest for my use case. Hence, I will never be a "Top 100" person on Twitter. ;)
- Rodney Rumford
If it's on the Internet, it is ALWAYS true, Robert. ;)

@Jesse I'm incapable of explaining myself out of being a geek. Better to embrace it.

61: Add on to a Robert Scoble numbered list with an incrementally interesting item.
- Steve Garfield
back up your success with nothing more than 140 characters
- Sheraz Mahmood
I've noticed that people who start a controversy, especially with a high profile person, get an immediate boost in followers. You'd think it would backfire but it seems to have the opposite effect. Maybe it's the trainwreck factor? People curious what on earth will be said next?
- Liz
Apparently posting on Scoble's Friendfeed works... 6 followers in the last few minutes.
- Matt Rendo
Woah. 278+ comments. Impressive! This is definitely one that will stick on FFholic for a while.
- Phil G
Wondering is anybody will read all these comments. I do believe if twitter doesn't get it together, that a large group will flock out to another destination. ala: Poof!
- Dave
Hey @scobleizer, your post would have been more appropriate on a blog.
- Klaus Alexander Seistrup
Post photos of cute puppies on FriendFeed.
- Amit Morson
To get followers, jump into a Tweetchat "room", get into the convo, follow folks then tell them in the chat room that you are following. For the "Happy09" chat, there were tons of people in there. Better yet, start your own chat/chat meme!
- Jesse P. Luna
@ reply like crazy to let the person know you followed them ie: @Scobleizer HI I FOLLOWED YOU FOLLOW ME BACK repeat until FailWhale/FailRobot shows up.
- Mona Nomura
Well, that's starting to work . . . anyone else getting lots of new friends? . . . and I didn't have to insult anybody. I think I might have to post one of my classical video clips for Mona http://www.youtube.com/watch...
- Chris Loft
Leslie, the N series work v well with the hearing impaired, but the iPhone works even better from my experience FTW!
- Sally Church
One thing that annoys me: people who discuss their follower numbers on twitter. Its just not interesting! I just subscribed to someone and unsubscribed the next day as 4 tweets were about passing 10000 - I'm very glad for you but it is just noise in my feed. Now I understand the feeling - I was amazed the day 100 people followed me (it is all relative :) ) - but it is not necessary to tweet about it.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I was going to send you some Swiss wine Robert, but I was told it doesn't travel well, so drank it myself. Just so you know, it was good :-)

I'm paling up with several here, in spite of what Mr. Scoble says about Saturday night geeks. -Mr. Geek ;-P

Tweet about Windows 7(or something equally as interesting), which I'll be doing a lot of in the coming days, It's installing as I type this!
- Kevin Lloyd
Tweet, but don't tweet too much because people apparently don't want to hear from you (or is it just me! ;)) THAT much! :)
- Christopher Kusek
Paul, what's that about swiss wine not travelling so well? It travels beautifully (but you need to get the good ones). It is so hard to find outside Switzerland because the swiss tend to drink all of it.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Liz, I thought that was really funny cos it's Sunday evening here. I'm not some z-list geek sitting here wasting my time on a Saturday night. -[

RT @scobleizer Robert wow, your post generated so many comments, is this the most number of comments from a single tweet in Twitter history? Can anyone confirm?

Lock Robert Scoble, Mona N, Jesse Stay, Louis Gray, Jason Calacanis and Techcrunch in a room. Only release them when they've retweeted every single of your tweets and told all their followers to follow you!

I am reading this in friendfeed on my iPhone and immediately regretting my decision to tap "read more..." I made it through the first 12 then began skimming and my thumb began sobbing...
- John Reynolds
I don't remember any friendfeed item getting more than 300 comments. I think this is now the new high water mark. Wow!
- Robert Scoble
Or: Post a “If you want more followers on Twitter and friendfeed here's what to do:” tweet :-)

Not being in this comment stream is so embarrassing. Wait, so is BEING in this comment stream!
- Tom Guarriello
i wonder if you did it all wrong, would you really get no followers...

- Brian Roy
patient? I want 1000 followers and I want them now! ;) (actually, I am with Kelly on this one)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
You know... Chris Brogan liked a post of mine and retweeted it letting everyone know... it ended up bringing me about 800 new visitors in the span of 2 hours. There's definitely something to be said about being seen with the right people. :)
- Steven Sanders
Hey Robert, say something positive about each of us today? Really be a boost.

- Gaby K. Slezák
Here's the 401st for good measure! I kinda use Twitter and FF to keep up with new, and record ideas and thoughts for myself, but if some people out there find a common ground with me, that's very cool! I think too much is placed on these online friend / follower counts overall tho... BTW, this comment is probably on the "How NOT to get more followers on Twitter or FF" list. :) Keep feeding me the knowledge Scobs!

The funniest part about all this is that I've gotten a *ton* of followers for posting on this thread. Weird! I think once my programming-related FF activity resumes people will drop from my feed like flies :)
- Eric Florenzano
Too bad I can't tweet the link (yet) -- of this 400+ comment -- I don't know how to call this. Not a Tweetversation by any means. A FFversation? Anyone come out with any sensible terms?
- David Feng
I have some ideas, none of which are usable.
- WorldofHiglet
subscribe to Friendfeeds for Twitter Celebs and read their Twitter hints... Start with Scoble..
- TechMama Beth Blecherman
I see "423 more comments". That's the most I have ever seen so far in FF!
- Winston Teo
TechMama: that will work very well. Of course then you'll only be fed shallow news. The real good stuff is on the K list. They aren't on the bottom, so they have a few followers, but they really don't give a shit so they are very real and teach you stuff. Unfortunately they usually don't stay on the K list very long. They either get moved up pretty fast or they get put in rehab for social media addiction.
- Robert Scoble
What was this thread about? I forgot, AGAIN!
- Jim Bednarz
Jim: me too, it's taken on a life of its own. Oh, yeah, it was about how to make money with friendfeed. Heheheh. Yeah, right!
- Robert Scoble
Quick! Scoble's about to do a 'How to make money on friendfeed' post now. Looking for the hattrick ;~)
- Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
Ed: heheh. how to make money in friendfeed? Get a million followers. The money will come. Or maybe not. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Robert: I guess you could charge for seminars on how to get a million followers ;D
- Seth Greenblatt
Robert - Think you broke your own record with this one. 255 Likes and 437 comments ?! Guess nobody's embracing Friendfeed tonight :)
- Charlie Anzman
Nobody's gonna read this, but I can't help observing that "I've got 10000 followers" is kinda like saying "I have 1000 books on my bookshelf", as if the number, not the content, is the important thing.
- Mr. Gunn
Charlie .. his last one has 300 comments and over 300 likes I believe ... But this thread is 70 people away from reaching every single person on Friendfeed. (Given the 500 like rule)
- Tyler (Chacha)
ChaCha - Ya gotta love it. Now when he reaches everyone on the Internet ... :)
- Charlie Anzman
Susan - Wasn't ignoring you ... just got lost in the middle of this ScobleChaChaMeMeWhateverItIs ... night all :)
- Charlie Anzman
Most importantly, get followed by @scobleizer hope he retweets, likes and/or comments on your posts.
- Christian Anderson
Christian: that's fair. I keep hoping you retweet, like, or comment on mine! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Yikes, I see there are 442 "collapsed" comments that follow Robert Scoble's teaser! (I won't dare to "expand" them - it would take ages to read them all.) The subject clearly preys on people's minds... Scoble has a knack for hitting the right button!
- Yule Heibel
I wonder if Mobile Safari would have such an implosion that the iPhone would shatter in my hands, if I tried to expand that thread.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF

whoa comment frenzy! @FriendFeed can you please build a Comment Quality filter before I attempt to make sense of all this user generated erm "content"? Now there's a question: how do we measure Comment Quality?
- Bob Hitching
I was lucky enough to arrive at his 3rd or 4th point... it was amazing to see it happen on the fly, as I and other people jumped in. It was like a chat room or IM chat.
- Simon T Small
Oh, and by commenting a couple of times on this post, I got 36 new twitter followers and about 6 new friend feed followers in 12 hours
- Simon T Small
omg.. why isn´t there a comment link on the bottom as well ? Especially useful on the iphone. I forgot the witty remark that would ensure me thousands of followers by the time I finger-scrolled to the top and to the bottom again on this insanely long thread. Oh, well, at least my comments are seen sometimes.. hello ?
- Thomas Bøhm
I do like how #1: Stop your bloody begging and whining for followers is still showing though. :-P

Re: 18., Tweet from the great beyond. INSANE follow numbers then. ;-p

start asking your friends who they use... Beating the dealership price is going to be easy, finding a mechanic that doesn't give you "that sinking feeling" when you pay him (or her) isn't
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
Actually Ford doesn't want a loan right now. Ford might be the only one left. That cost seems high. I'd get a second opinion.
- Jared B. Luther
The Toyota dealership did the same thing to me only last month. Found a local mechanic who fixed it for $500 not $1500.
- Sally Church
FORD - F&%$ed Up, Rebuilt Dodge, or Fuel Oil Repair Daily
- geekazine
from twhirl
the issue here is that the parts themselves cost the majority of the price. You can't necessarily buy them used, either where they are brakes.
- Jesse Stay
from IM
An emergency brake is just the rear brakes attached to a cable. The same brake pads or shoes that stop the rear wheels when you hit the brake pedal are the same that the e-brake uses. If JUST the e-brake needs work, it's not the brakes per se, but the e-brake mechanism.
- Jared B. Luther
you've got to be kidding me...$1600 bucks no wonder they suck so bad
- Susan Beebe
susan, I've had much higher bills from Japanese cars. Cars are all cars in the end. Brakes all go bad, as do tires, and other parts.
- Jesse Stay
from IM
I guess I wouldn't expect that high of a bill. dang
- Susan Beebe
Get a second opinion and call Click and Clack:-)
- Francine Hardaway
hardaway I already got a second opinion and the only place to get the part is from Ford.
- Jesse Stay
from IM
you're screwed...sell it fast while you can! gees
- Susan Beebe
Jesse, you should ask Ford for a parking brake bailout.
- imabonehead
imabonehead lol - no kidding! I want some of their money! If they get a bailout does that mean my parking brakes are cheaper?
- Jesse Stay
from IM
how about a sit-in at the Ford dealership until they give you a better price on your parking brakes? We can invite Gov. Blagojevich to give a rousing speech. Worked for that company in Chicago
- Brian Watkins
brian, that could be enjoyable. Ford dealerships have free wifi, TV, there's a Hogi Yogi and Teriyaki Sticks in the one I go to, and more. There's even a kids play center so I can take my kids to come play while I sit it out. I doubt they'd even notice I was there though, but I'd get a lot done!
- Jesse Stay
from IM
I had an oil pressure issue with a GM car once. Took it to the dealer who replaced two lots of parts, gages, sender units etc. Telling a friend, he recommended a local mechanic, who did the job in little over an hour, and charged me around $70. The problem - a sump full of crap from the previous owner not getting it serviced in a timely manner. The main dealer should have found this though. They all overcharge just because they're main dealers.
- Ian May
eyebee unfortunately in my case I've taken it to multiple people and they have all said the same thing.
- Jesse Stay
from IM
Jesse I hear you. I know time is money, and parts cost, but I find it difficult to comprehend how anyone can justify $1600 to fix a parking brake!
- Ian May
OMG that is a lot of money! I hope you find a solution. Good luck
- Adriana
IMHO they're taking you for a ride. You can absolutely do better. I'd find out what the parts cost, then look for a mechanic who will put them in for you.
- Ciaoenrico
ciaoenrico the parts cost $720, and that's just for one component of the parts I'll have to get. The price is mostly parts.
- Jesse Stay
from IM
Maybe you could offer Ford the $1600 as your share of their bail-out and tell them not to take any more of your taxes? :/ Just kidding, my empathy is with you. Maybe you should tell them that unless they reduce the cost, they won't get any more of your bail-out money, and they'll lose you as a customer. And the car companies expect us to rescue them after treating customers like that?
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I've now seen it twice. Once in the movie and once on dvd. The dvd had stuff about the making of the sounds and then an interview with movie's creator. Both were excellent segments. Oh the movie was great also!

"To this day, I believe the best thing for Microsoft to do is to buy Yahoo," Yang said Wednesday evening at the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco.

<Yahoo> Make us another offer! <Microsoft> Ok, how about 20% of what we offered last time? Only this time, you have to promise to rewrite everything to run on Windows Azure. ;-)
- Joel Bennett
Yahoo is so yesterday. Microsoft needs to do something forward thinking and big. If they are going to spend money, they should buy up and consolidate all these VoIP companies including Vonage. Then, integrate VoIP into windows, including windows mobile, and create a seamless communications platform that is affordable for everyone worldwide. When it comes to recurring revenue, this might be more profitable than software subscriptions or web based services.
- Mike Thompson
Mike Mike Mike ... you know every anti-trust group would jump all over Microsoft for doing something like that
- John Blanton
from twhirl
Nah, there's plenty of competition for voice service; all the big boys- AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner, Comcast, they all have the triple or quad play now. Integration with windows is competitive advantage, sure, but not anti-competitive.
- Mike Thompson
Well the FriendFeed debate room is full of McCain/Palin bashing. I wouldn't call it a discussion, more like a lynching. They seem to think Obama is Mr. Perfect. That scares me more than Palin.
I think this is were the Internet falls short. Most people would not act this way if they meeting together in person. I have seen debates work well on the Internet when the participants knew each other offline before the debate though. There is just too much anonymity on the 'net that allows people without respect for their fellow man to pour out their hatred without consequence.
- Ed Grant
from fftogo
Because a name makes things have consequences, Ed? It has nothing to do with identity, it's all about respect and educations. You can be a famous, well-known jerk, or OTOH you can also be a generous, a very very highly good anonymous man. Dontcha think? :)
- directeur
I agree about the heavy Obama slant here on FriendFeed. It doesn't frighten me more than Palin as a theoretical president, though.
- Phil G
He's not perfect, but he's a lot better than the competition and will move this country forward into prosperity instead of backwards to the middle ages.
- Alex Scoble
I think you are right. It is not an identity issue but rather a morality issue (ie. Love your neighbor as yourself).
- Ed Grant
If that scares you more than Palin, you got issues. Sorry.

- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Would've been cooler if he would of said Blu-ray was a hot mess or full of FAIL.
- Paul Reynolds
I think it's a way of forcing people to get their HD content from iTunes. Apple has no interest in allowing people to use anything but their own licensed content. They basically said as much in the answer to the question. Plenty of other companies have survived the licensing "complexity" to offer Blue-Ray in their products.
