The story: 26 yo bride-to-be wants the women in the wedding party, including the moms, to have French manicures. She's paying for it. The younger ones 16 and 19 are balking as are the 34, 37 and 41 yo. They all agree it's slutty. The 21, 24 and 29 yo. And the bride's mom, think they're classy.

I say slutty. For me, the guys I grew up with and hung around with always looked at a girl's nails. They were convinced that girls with French manicures were whores. That's exactly what the teens said. They said, "French manicure = internet porn", which amuses me. But it's the 10 year divide that is more interesting.

I don't think so, at least, for nails that aren't excessively long. My mom usually gets an "American," which doesn't make the tips quite as white as a French. I think it does look a little classier, but not a huge difference.

I'd go with a nice sheer pink or white. French manicures do have a reputation of being "stripper nails" or porn nails, at least to some people. I'm in my 30s and I had that feeling too. It's like too much pastel, too much lip gloss, french tips=stripper. If half the bridal party hates them, why not just go with something else?

As long as they are done well, not overly long or squared, too shiny, too bold, etc., I think they look classy. But the line can be easily crossed into trashy looking.

There is a long and well-respected tradition that the bride gets to make her bridal party wear things they would otherwise not be caught dead in, and people humor her because it's Her Day. So, I say let the bride have her dang day, and just hope she doesn't make everyone wear chartreuse spandex dresses and lucite high heels with 'em.

I can see the association between french tips and porn. But as a few people already said, it depends on the length and the style. I've had french manicures before and always felt happy about the look. to me it look classy but then i don't tend to have the long evil looking nails.

I had a friend who got a French manicure on her toes for a weekend trip to Vegas. I gave her so much crap about that, that by time she got to Vegas, she got them redone. She said, "I know you wouldn't have let up, especially by the pool." She's right.

I say french tips aren't slutty... hooker nails, to me, are the long ones with designs and sparkles in them. French manicures have always seemed classy to me, and most brides I've known have had them done. Including me, both times. :p Then again... I've been known to carry off the 'lady on the street, whore in the bedroom' routine pretty well. So maybe the nails fit... Always preferred f**k me red polish on my toes, though. But, that's just me.

they just look ugly to me. Kinda makes me think they've trapped their finger in a door and you get that white flek if you've banged it hard enough. For the record, I'm 24, so I fit the age group you mentioned liking the style. Also, yeah, I'm the girl who walks around for a week with all her nail polish worn off except for the bits in the middle. I never have time to take the polish off, but I only ever get them done for occasions. Actually the French manicure has stood up to the hell my nails go through at work much better than a classic manicure. And I've never had fake nails.

I used to get them regularly, because my nails were rather brittle. Since I couldn't grow them naturally, I did it the fake way. French, natural, red, a nice beige for work, loved them all. Learned how to type with longer nails, had no problems doing anything. Once I've mastered the art of small talk in danish, I'll be getting them again. :D Love my fake nails, personally. They also keep me from scratching myself silly. Now, fake nails on the toes weird me out a bit...

I've never liked the look of a French manicure. It always looks tacky and gross to me. Same with decals, gems, designs, etc. I don't understand what's wrong with nice clean manicured nails with one color or even just a bit of clearcoat on them. Doesn't anyone do that anymore? *sigh*

Yeah - I mean, follower count is really meaningless if tweets do die. It's about who is engaged (Monday mornings ROCK as far as click through is concerned). Lately, I've been taking tweets of friends that I want to retweet and waiting to retweet them for like 30 minutes. I seems like it helps spread to new eyeballs better since most of the more active twitter users follow very similar users bases.

In life, if something is important, you bring it up again when it's appropriate - ie new audience. Over doing it can be an issue - just like friends you spend a lot time with might get sick of hearing about your new business endeavor - but ultimately, if done right - it's very effective.

When I get a new follow and I go to see their recent tweets and it looks like the person is constantly re-tweeting their own stuff, I don't follow them back. Also, if it looks like ALL they do is retweet other people, and never really post anything original, I don't follow back.
