I am a pretty big fan of President Obama, but I do not get the Nobel Peace Prize thing. Surely there are many, many other people around the world more deserving...
FYI, the deadline for nominations was February 1st, so Obama was nominated for all that he accomplished during his first 11 days in office (unless he had some "extraordinary efforts in international diplomacy" before then).
- Glen Campbell, esq.
Once again it's another suck up to the "world" community organizer. If he deserves a prize on accomplishments, maybe it's for continual double-digit unemployment.
- Spencer
I just totally don't get it. It's going to shift the already insane tone of the Tea Baggers even MORE insane. We won't hear the end of this for a long time. sigh
- Tad
See - Spencer is showing a pretty tame example of what I don't want to deal with for the next year or two.
- Tad
I agree Tad, no one wants to deal with double-digit unemployment and exploding deficits. And just to cut you off at the pass, I didn't agree with the much-less-but-still-exploding deficits when President Bush was in office either.
- Craig Eddy
Oy - I'm not saying that criticism is bad or that it's wrong to say he shouldn't have won. I don't think he should have won the Peace Prize either. My point is that it's going to bring the criticism of the president up to a more fevered pitch. It's already unbearable for lots of us and it's going to get a lot worse.
- Tad
I'm saying this with a bit of humor, but find it funny that 8 years of ruthless insults and complaints against Bush was OK, but it seems the ones who dished it out certainly can't take it. :)
- Spencer
Ah, so sorry Tad. "It's already undbearable for lots of us"? <-- gets my vote for post of the year
- Craig Eddy
Let's face it. The people who will never be okay with Obama as president, don't need any excuse to go off on him. For the record, I don't think he should have gotten the award either. For as much as the Nobel committee is reminding people that the prize is also given for potential deeds, it's a bit of a stretch to give it to him. I'm jaded enough to feel like this was a political move to retroactively reprimand the Bush administration. Which is a bad reason for this, for sure.
- pea
Yep, it's all about the man not his policies. He's half black so I certainly can't accept him </sarcasm>
- Craig Eddy
Craig, if that was directed at me, I'd like to please note that I did not bring the president's race into my statement.
- pea
The fact that people are so quick to jump to "Oh I must be a racist" is hilarious. A++ best thread I've read this morning.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Pea: not specifically, but then neither did most of the people who oppose his policies, and yet usually "The people who will never be okay with Obama as president" is coupled with "because he's black"
- Craig Eddy
What the Thinker thinks, the Prover proves. This is gonna be proving a lot for a lot of Thinkers...
- Tad
We can only hope that Obama is truly a bit humbled by it and gets motivated to live up to it. Otherwise, it won't matter much for anything.
- LogEx
"He did write two books. Maybe next year he'll get the Nobel Prize for Literature." This an other reactions on the right http://pajamasmedia.com/instapu... Some are actually kind of funny. “Today the Nobel Committee announced a posthumous Peace Prize for Neville Chamberlain.” “Why not the Cy Young Award, too?” “Let’s be fair . . . he did pull off the Beer Summit.”
- Andrew Leyden
Just found out why we (they) gave it to him. It's a trade off : "NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim October 9, 2009, as Leif Erikson Day, and I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs to honor our country's rich Nordic-American heritage." http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_pre...
- Eivind
I wonder if he gets to keep the money or if he has to donate it (i.e. the law on gifts to a President). It's a million plus change.

I still don't totally by the analogy with MS, because open source is open source. The best analogy I can come up with is IBM's attempt to undermine Sun with SWT/Eclipse which kinda semi-forked Java. Still, years later, no one is calling IBM evil on it, and they haven't been able to parlay it into unreasonable control over the market.

Another way I see it is, Google has 20,000 employees and lots of cash, they can't all work on search and ads, without going crazy with boredom, so perhaps most of all these things Google is doing is just a result of employees working on whatever interests them, and Google deciding to productize a percentage of them. It's not much different than IBM AlphaWorks, except IBM doesn't have a...

He can't hear anything. Only the lobe has been enlarged, and it's hollow. The top is now mostly blocked by another piercing. Can probably smell better though ;P

Hope he's independently wealthy, because he'll never get a job (well, any kind of mainstream job anyway).
- Ken Gidley
Well I'm glad that my choice of career isn't as stuck up as "the mainstream"... Im sure they'd hire this guy if he were good at what he does. (I'm a software developer, and yes, I know of the existance of those scary, big, "everyone wears suits" houses, but I don't count them =p)
- Daniel Bruce
Though, something tells me he isn't interested in a "mainstream" job anyway =)
- Daniel Bruce
that is a dear friend of mine. he's a sweetheart!
- Head Ov Metal
All he needs is a well trained small rodent and he could be the "Americas Got Talent" winner. If that doesn't happen maybe Ozzie would take him on as either a stage act or a roadie.

I'm going to desperately cling to the notion that this was photoshopped, and that someone did not willingly do all that to their face.

I agree with Kevin Fox .. not only have their killed any present and future job prospects. They most likely won't get laid again for the rest of their lives.

Learned in Planning & Design of Large-Scale Complex Systems: "Optimizing for a sub-system detracts from the larger system." Cross-cultural application: "Accessorizing for a sub-culture really really alienates you from the larger culture."
- Mark "Godt Nyt Ǻr"
Mark, it could, but it depends on other factors as well. I accessorize for a subculture and yet participate fully in larger culture in many ways. It may make certain things more difficult for me to prove, but I haven't really, really alienated myself. Then again, for some people maybe alienation is the goal.

he must scare the shit out of the dentist..does he love pain
- tomartomartini
blue and red is ok but to get really color co-ordinated yellow or amber need to be his next choice....then he would look pretty good.

- tomartomartini
i bet he works in a tattoo shop,at least its recession proof ...but ink is getting pricey, did you know that ink is one off the most expensive liquids ,,more expensive than snake oil ,,or oil ..
- tomartomartini
i bet he doesn't do soup;well,coffee or tea,,,use a straw ...
- tomartomartini
if you saw this guy at night would you make friends with him
- tomartomartini
Man, what does he do when he has a cold? Blowing ones horn is fine but blowing ones nose..ah well. And how many sirens go off when he passes through security at the airports? And lastly, what more piercings does he have planned for the future- still a lot of spare room left for those!!

Unbelievable... a news broadcast from Bolivia's PAT attributes LOST images to a camera on board Air France's doomed flight 447. #FAIL - http://www.canalsur.com/index...
I would've thought the blue sky outside would've been an obvious clue... Reminds me of the time some networks broadcast images from Armageddon as satellite footage of the Shuttle breakup.

“Hey. You. Lady. What kind of camera is that? Huh? Is that the new model. I bet it isn’t. What megapixel you working with? I bet it’s only 3 megapixel. My camera is 4 megapixel. My camera is better. What ISO you shooting in? I bet you don’t even know what ISO is. Look at you. Trying to take a picture. Those people are like 300 yards away. That... - http://thedayhascome.tumblr.com/post...
One thing I have noticed is that in any ovie, v show, etc where anything odd happens, the English are always portrayed as standing in place saying something like "This can't be happening" or some stupid thing like that, when it clearly IS happening. Is this some sort of national trait? I like to think that if, say, the dead rise and turn on the living, I would fight back + run to safety FIRST and worry about the ontological implications after.

Laugh, sure. But your pounds sterling end up in a California bank account. ;-)

My cousin dl'ed the Moron Test and tried to get me to take it. I told him he'd already failed because he was a moron for buying it in the first place. He was unamused. I wasn't.

To be fair, he's kind of a tool, so it's less a reflection of the app and more a reflection of how much I want to throw him off the nearest high-rise.

I notice that the U.S. is no longer a nation of morons -- for the last few days, "The Sims 3" is #1, so we're now a nation of replicants.

got this after my first intelligent use of ff filtered search. populist USA likes to feign ignorance and UK likes to superficial awareness

I'm so verklempt! Yay. Congratulations. A baby born right here on friendfeed. Like that baby born at Woodstock. Or that Dead show. OK, not really, but she'll always be special to all of us.

goddamn - Don't freak me out. I thought you babbyformed your wife again, which blew my mind as she just stated in another thread 2 days ago, that the maid has still not come and made up the room from when the last tenant occupied the space.
- Matthew DeVries
Your phrasing is highly diplomatic, Matthew. Also funny as hell.

Brownies are good. Chocolate chip cookies are good. Chocolate chip cookie dough-topped brownies? Utterly delicious. These brownies take two of the most popular desserts - brownies and chocolate chip cookies - and combine them into one amazing, sinful treat. The bottom is a classic brownie recipe, and the top chocolate chip cookie dough. The combination of flavors is wonderful and the best part is eating them warm from the oven or reheated - the chocolate chips from the cookie layer on top are slightly melted, giving the brownies that great ooey-gooey-ness that can only come from perfectly baked chocolate chip cookies. You’ll want to have a nice tall glass of cold milk ready when you serve these!

I love the face she's making. I look forward to the future months where we can all debate on who she looks like. Congrats!!! Send my love to Rochelle too. I hope she's getting good rest.

We can't debate who she looks like without pics of Akiva. Ergo, she has to look like Rochelle by default.
