Heavy pc and crt, ok, but the subwoofer too? You know how heavy those things are? This would work in space maybe.

And I wonder where it's getting powered from. Is there an extension cord behind him, or maybe he's got a generator attached to his feet?
- Costa Walcott
But which way would it point? Or should there be two, one aimed at his face, and one on the visor of his hat, to see what he can see?

It's a 'Trojan Horse'!! The hollowed out tower contains 8 Macbook Airs, 25 iPhones, a G1™[product placement by Google] and a handful of Newtons - just waiting to be deployed!

There is a distinct lack of cup holder.

True... where does the Mountain Dew go? Or coffee or Jolt Cola or whatever caffeinated substance he drinks?

"SCIENTISTS claim the giant atom-smashing Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is being jinxed from the future to save the world. In a bizarre sci-fi theory, Danish physicist Dr Holger Bech Nielsen and Dr Masao Ninomiya from Japan claim the LHC startup has been delayed due to nature trying to prevent it from finding the elusive Higgs boson, or "God particle"."

Dear Scientists... If I was from the future and had the power to effect things in the past... I would probably sabotage the thing before they started.... NOT FRIGGIN ONCE THEY FARKING FINISHED BUILDING IT.!!!
- Johnny Worthington
yes but in the future they are far more subtle and elusive so nothing overt like messing with the concrete...
- WarLord
Might want to check these guys for drugs. Clearly on the laffy taffy.
- Mo Kargas
LOL I don't think drugs would make a difference for Holger Bech Nielsen. His thinking is so far out that not many can really follow him. He's super intelligent but also very awkward. Try and look up the name on youtube :-)
- Rasmus Lauridsen
Reminds me of my second quantum physics lecturer in uni a few years ago. Brilliant, but a few really really oddball ideas
- Mo Kargas
Yeah, I'm still reading it as Hardon Collider... *sigh*
- Mellissa
Aaah but Johnny, who knows if there is a purpose behind the subtle sabotage. Maybe what the future geeks are trying to do is make the present day geeks work harder and 'solve' the riddle themselves, rather than make out like they have affected the timeline. Maybe we are meant to have the Large Hardon Collider (@Melissa), but its purpose is actually different from what the present day...
- Travis Koger
I am sure there was a film about this... something like the only way they could communicate with the past was to make really subtle changes that made the present day people think more about the issue. If there wasn't a film, there must have been a Star Trek episode about it (pick any series, NG, Enterprise, Voyager, DS9)
- Travis Koger
Although I am sure that Will Wheaton must have been in it. =P
- Travis Koger
That sounds like a brilliant Big Bang Theory episode :)

This sounds like an episode of Fringe. Are there any mutilated dead bodies lying around in the basement?

Boy, how did these guys pass their psych tests before being let loose on that thing...

eh ? Angels and Demons story .. same shit different Collider !!

“This image illustrates the California vowel shift. The vowel space of the image is a cross-section (as if looking at the interior of a mouth from a side profile perspective); it is a rough approximation of the space in a human mouth where the tongue is located in articulating certain vowel sounds (the left is the front of the mouth closer to the teeth, the right side of the chart being the back of the mouth). As with other vowel shifts, several vowels may be seen moving in a chain shift around the mouth. As one vowel encroaches upon the space of another, the adjacent vowel in turn experiences a movement in order to maximize phonemic differentiation.”

Yeah, I can't quite get the secure one to work.

I've been running Twitter Gadget for Gmail for two weeks. Suddenly, yesterday, I started getting "Your session is expired, please reload Gmail." The only thing that gets it back is to restart my computer.

"Cities grow organically, and while some areas thrive and prosper, others parts undoubtedly deteriorate over time as industry evolves, social dynamics shift and economies fluctuate. Many accomplished urban designers look at the multi-dimensionality of any city within which they work regardless of where a project is sited."

"'POSIT: Ferris Bueller does not, as such, exist; the movie is actually about Cameron's day off and his unresolved crush on his best friend Sloane, and the parts where Cameron is not onscreen are merely the products of his imagination as Ferris, the perfect human being, does all the things Cameron could not or never do, until Cameron snaps and decides to live his life for himself.' And as Bird notes, when Cameron decides to live his own life, Ferris' luck runs out. This isn't Bird's own theory, mind you, it's been around for some time -- spreading through the internet like an unwanted virus. But what do you think? Is Ferris nothing more than a less jaded version of the narrator's Tyler Durden? Or are people just out to ruin one of the greatest teen comedies of all time?"

I like that it can work either way... to great effect, to the much the same effect.
- Michael W. May
I guess that puts me in the minority as I don't see that it ruins anything to speculate about it. Cameron is the only one who can ruin it :P
- Michael W. May
MWM, nah. I love speculating about things like this. It doesn't ruin anything - just gives a different perspective on it. But I come from an English lit background that has no problem accepting multiple, even contradictory interpretations as valid. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
As long as Sloane exists, I'm happy. I still have a crush on her.
- Mark "Godt Nyt Ǻr"
I love when people overanalyse stuff in this way - it creates some fascinating concepts.
- Slappy Line
Good storytelling + nailing that usually elusive zeitgeist + strong nostalgia because we (me anyway) saw it as a teen = ripe for seeing layers of meaning. Love the over-analysis *and* the face value just shut up and have a good time experience =)
- Micah Wittman
Cameron *was* the character that was transformed in the story, not Ferris.
- MikeAmundsen
No Dice. Ferris is a fictional character so he's allowed to be perfect. And it's OK to have an unresolved crush Sloane, every guy who watched it does. And remember......"Ahhhhhhhhhh(low) Ahhhhhhhhhh(higher) Ahhhhhhhhhh(higher) Ahhhhhhhhhhh(high)"
- Toby Graham
Toby, that argument only reinforces that the traditional reading remains valid...not that the "figment of Cameron's imagination" interpretation couldn't also be a valid reading.

this is interesting. I wonder if John Hughes has ever weighed in on this theory. I've listened to his commentary on the DVD and nothing remotely like this ever came up. I do like that it holds up though.
