Yet another great post on this issue from Tara Hunt. Be sure to check out the comments as well; there's a great counterpoint by Kathy Sierra.

This was passed along to me by a co-worker, who has never tried this vegetable. After reading this, I must admit I am curious to give it a try myself!

"The Steel City Robotic Art Project (SCRAP) is a nascent festival centered around robotic art in Pittsburgh, PA. For 2009/2010 it takes its first incarnation – SCRAP Satellites – a festival formed from a constellation of mini-festivals each in orbit around a larger Pittsburgh festival."

While a sound argument can be made that the bulk of small businesses in the Burgh are mom & pop's, I think the article's statement about it does a disservice to all of the awesome non-nepotistic startups that are here.

I just attended a Pgh Tech Council breakfast & forum at which Eric Schmidt was the keynote speaker a few weeks ago. Jeremiah and Charlene's analysis jives pretty well with a lot of what was said (and not said). Velly interesting!

gist of the story? Two blokes decided to walk 450 km from Ísafjördur to Reykjavík for the purpose of buying ice cream. The story got picked up by the media and gentlemen were then treated to a tour of the ice cream place by the CEO as well as treated to a special breakfast at a local gril once word got out where they wanted to eat. I wonder what would happen if I decided to walk 450km for ice cream some time.

So nice to see vindication from Seth for our business model. We might not be the biggest fish in the sea since we're competing against free portfolio sites with a different mode of revenue generation, but we know that the artists who stick with us are with us in a purposeful way. (We think that our minimal barrier to entry improves the quality of the art as well, but of course, we might be biased toward our awesome customers.)
