So, what's all this fuss I keep hearing about my latest article being discarded on Sphinn? I just got an email from a Sphinn mod (mods[at]sphinn[dot]com) telling me my latest article was pulled because "it violates the guidelines about giveaways."

We are looking to be as inclusive as possible with this giveaway, so the rules on creating the video entry are really simple. We ask the contestants to tell us, in video form, what they will do with the money if they win the $100,000. That's pretty much it! We have a couple of other caveats such as, we'd like a mention a LashAllureMD.com in the video and we ask the contestant to tag and title the video in a certain way so we can easily find it, but that's about it. Easy-peasy! Heck, you might even want to look into entering!

While most people simply associate authentication services with a unified method of managing their sign-in activity across several websites, Facebook Connect does much more than simply letting users log in to a site by validating their identity via their Facebook account. When logging in with Facebook Connect, users bring their Facebook profile data with them. This means the website or blog they just logged into can allow them to find their friends who also use the same site. Furthermore, they can share information and experiences using the same features as they would on a Facebook application. With Facebook Connect, almost every feature that you can build with an application on Facebook can be offered through a third-party website or application using the service.

Celebrities, organizations, politicians, and corporate entities are making use of the Facebook Fan Page option in most cases today. Nevertheless, Group pages remain popular in some cases, I believe, because they are easy to set up. No matter what direction you choose, it more important than anything else to simply cultivate your user base and communicate with them.

For cable channel AMC Television, August 26, 2008 was a difficult day. Some fans of the show Mad Men, a property of AMC TV, had taken it upon themselves to establish Twitter accounts in the names of the show's characters. Not only that, but they were twittering in character and had created an alternate world of twittertainment for fans...

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been following the maturation of ZoyBar, a singular platform for developing innovative musical instruments and effects. The platform allows independent developers to use ZoyBar hardware to integrate modular parts. Components can be swapped during a performance or mounted with an array of special effects that can dynamically change what the instrument does with a single touch. Build-your-own instruments are nothing new–Warmoth’s offered a custom guitar parts catalog and assembly instructions for years–but what the designer behind ZoyBar has in mind is unique.

As a big fan of Mad Men and Social Media, I give you… Posted on August 3, 2009 by Jim Gilbert 4 0 Rate This Quantcast OK, so I love the TV show Mad Men. Not since Darren Stevens on Bewitched has the ad industry been portrayed on TV (except for that horrible show on cable last year). Maybe I should write a script about the goings on, in the direct marketing industry. Maybe set it in a DM agency…. hmmm fun possibilities. I usually don’t ramble in my posts, so here is the point. I am loving the way the TV show Mad Men, is using social media to increase their audience. Check out this article on how they are doing it, using Twitter, a webiste (madmenyourself.com) and other social media. Mean time. On Madmenyourself.com, I made my cool 60’s avatar. Check it out… Jim, your author as his 60's counterpart. Kinda hip for his time! Jim, your author as his 60's counterpart. Kinda hip for his time! Cable network AMC kicks off the third season of Mad Men on August 16. How do I know this? It’s not because I saw an ad in a magazine or a commercial on the TV or a billboard on the side of a busy street. It was much more covert, yet fully in my face. Well, fully on my Facebook. While perusing my friends’ status updates on Facebook, I noticed a few of them had posted profile pictures of themselves as cartoon caricatures, avatars really, standing in front of a retro backdrop with martinis and cigarettes in hand. Under each portrait was a link to MadMenYourself.com. So I clicked right over to the microsite and transformed myself into a 60’s character straight out of Mad Men. Well, technically I was a mad woman – martini, cigarette, bouffant and all. I promptly posted my 60’s ad exec fantasy to my Facebook profile, where, along with the fans of Mad Men (or fans of procrastinating), I helped to subtly (or not-so-subtly) promote the new season of Mad Men. While social media can help suppo

B.L. Ochman's blog: AMC's "Mad Men" Social Media Use Sure to Become Legendary. Will It Produce Eyeballs as Well as Buzz? Stay Tuned! - http://www.whatsnextblog.com/archive...
AMC's "Mad Men" Social Media Use Sure to Become Legendary. Will It Produce Eyeballs as Well as Buzz? Stay Tuned! MadMen_yourself.jpg By B.L. Ochman A year ago, AMC was a bumbling cable network sending cease and desist letters to fans of Mad Men who lovingly Tweeted in the names of the show's characters. They demanded the accounts be suspended until someone apparently pointed out that all this adoration of the show was - doh! - good for the show. As season three approaches, (launching August 16th) they've more than wised up; they've embraced social media and its evangelistic ability to create buzz. Will that buzz bring create new Mad Men fans, or just excite the show's existing base? Stay tuned. madmen_me.jpgLast week AMC hit a viral jackpot on Twitter with a new micro-site called Mad Men Yourself, created created by New York digital shop Deep Focus. In the spirit of Office Max's "Elf Yourself," the site lets fans create stylized versions of themselves as the characters on the show.

Mad Men Use Social Media To Promote Old Media by Ron Callari Remember the days of 'push marketing', when the Mad Men of Madison Avenue monopolized what messages were beamed out to the public. Feeding us manageable morsels of propaganda about the brands they represented, they controlled a lot of what we ate, drank, and yes... even what we thought. Ironic that to promote an award-winning TV show about this period of advertising history, that the promoters of Mad Men should select the new medium of social media to cast a wide net for increasing audience viewership. With several Emmy's under its belt and wild acclaim from the critics, Mad Men on AMC has only been able to attract slightly less than 2 million viewers during its second season. So the impetus to embrace social media this season makes a lot of sense. Prompted also by the success of a PR company's unauthorized campaign to tweet as real life characters from the show, several accounts were set up under the names of Don Draper

Whoever built the http://standbykay.com site for Kay Bailey Hutchison needs to explain why the site is loaded with hidden text. I mean...really?!? Really? 800 lines of hidden keywords and phrases in an invisible div tag and you think no-one will find that? This sucks for Kay Bailey, because there's very little chance that she has any clue that this has been done to a site supporting her.
