"It's down to a chemical called citrulline which is found in the juicy fruit. Citrulline is an organic compound which affects the body's blood vessels in the same way as the sex enhancement pills. It helps relax the blood vessels which means blood gets around the body more easily."

"Dr Bhimu Patil led the research. He said: "We've always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study. "Watermelon may not be as organ specific as Viagra... but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects." It's also claimed watermelons are good for your heart and immune system."
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
I wish I could find good ole fashioned seeded watermelon. The seedless are popular, but it seems the flavor has been bred out along with the seeds. :(
- Derrick
Most of the watermelon I've eaten this summer hasn't been all that juicy. Not bad, but not as good as it could be.

"Catwalk models have often been described as ‘ironing boards with legs’. Very few have been renowned for their cleavage. The newest trend emerging at London Fashion Week, however, is giving even the most flat-chested of the breed the kind of uplift and silhouette more normally acquired by a visit to the plastic surgeon. Not since Jean Paul Gaultier designed the now-legendary ‘rocket cone bra’ for Madonna nearly 20 years ago, has the brassiere been such a fashion fixation. Louise Goldin, the young designer showing under the Topshop-sponsored NewGen scheme, was directly inspired by the Madonna rocket cone to create her own ‘twin peaks’ in pastel organza and gold and silver lame, bristling with Swarovski crystals. The models wore her bras with matching organza bloomers or micro-kilts."

AROUND 11:40 a.m. every Sunday, they arrive at Foresight Studios, a rehearsal and performance space in the heart of Silver Lake, a hipster neighborhood in Los Angeles. They wear pink leg warmers, sparkly headbands and the type of tiny shorts not seen since Richard Simmons felt the burn in them in the 1980s. They are here for Sweaty Sundays, a dance class taught by Ryan Heffington, a choreographer, performance artist and designer with a soft spot for Lycra and bright pastels.

"The night of Sunday, August 30th will bring a new, pale face to HBO's True Blood. Actress Evan Rachel Wood will be vampire queen Sophie-Anne, and Bill (Stephen Moyer), the vampire in love with the telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), will come to her in despair to ask for her advice. Can't wait to see it? The episode is not too far away, but fortunately the people at HBO know how hard it is for fans to wait as long, and have released pictures that offer a first look into the powerful Sophie-Anne, Vampire Queen of Louisiana."

I finished reading "My Sister's Keeper" last night. Harrowing book. Glad I read it, but 99% sure I will never read it again. I stayed up late last night to finish it, then cried for 1/2 hour afterward. Unsure if I will see the movie.

Johnny Depp helps 'Alice in Wonderland' steal audience love from 'Tron,' 'Christmas Carol' at Disney 3D panel | PopWatch Blog | EW.com ---TRAILER FOR ALICE AT BOTTOM - http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatc...
You've never heard a room erupt until you've heard Hall H show Johnny Depp some love. As part of Disney's 3D panel, moderated by comedian and Ratatouille star Patton Oswalt, Comic-Con rookie Tim Burton -- "I haven't been here since I was a student, when it was a few people and a slide show" -- showed the trailer for Alice in Wonderland. But Burton didn't bring anything else to show off. Except for his star. Depp walked on the stage, waved to the crowd, hugged Burton, and then walked off the stage. Three minutes of Depp, tops. And then we saw the trailer for the third time, because Oswalt liked it so much. Um, okay.

Should have cross posted this to the Beautiful Women group. It's a little off-beat for that group, but there's something impressive about this photo.
- Jason Huebel
every femme is a warrior, and doesnt need a hat & blood to prove it, :/
- chaz2b
Agree with Chaz. That's too "romanticized". Women, every woman, is a warrior. especially moms - even more than men. There's an old african saying that goes like this: "The protection by a woman is stronger than the one by a man". i.e. No one will dare to harm you if a woman protects you :)
- directeur
So, the conversation suddenly went serious. Not the point of the photo, but okay... Maybe this photo is a metaphor for that. Personally, I just thought it was an impressive photo and didn't dwell on it beyond that.
- Jason Huebel
Jason, by showing an image of a strong woman you implied that women were weak. Simple symbolism.
- Alex Scrivener
So because this photo shows a female warrior, it somehow implies that women are weak? That's an awfully negative point of view. Besides, I didn't make any statements with regard to strength or weakness. I used the word "impressive". I was impressed by the subject matter and the composition of the photo.
- Jason Huebel
And this statement makes absolutely no sense: "by showing an image of a strong woman you implied that women were weak". So if you show an image of a woman who is strong, that means women are weak? How does that work?
- Jason Huebel
I was joking. My aversion to smileys might be hurting me here.
- Alex Scrivener
Ah, okay. A </sarcasm> tag would have been helpful as well. ;-) Sorry, I'm undercaffeinated this morning, so I'm a bit moody.

How I use Facebook. Log on real quick to very quickly confirm pending friend requests. Keep my fingers crossed that nobody starts chatting at me on the IM thingy. Quickly log off, whew! Made it on and off again alive -- less than 60 seconds.
Ha, you turn the chat thing off. Under the "Options", just set it to "Go Offline".
- Rafael Robayna
LOL, Thomas = FB n00b... kidding! What Rafael said...
- Jorge Escobar
but if it takes me too much time to log on and change it, they might start chatting at me again while I'm online. Might have to try to do this late at night when nobody's on there.

Cool, thanks for posting this Thomas, I've just done the same and don't need to be afraid to go online on FB anymore.

At 24, I dated a 32 year old with 2 kids (she'd been divorced for 4 years). I wound up being unable to deal with the unpredictability of her schedule and the resulting flakiness. I'm not blaming her, the lifestyle just wasn't for me. It also made me realize how far away I am from being ready to have kids of my own. Great post. Having a relationship with someone when you have kids and they don't can be tough. And is usually because of misplaced expectations. I dated a woman who made the mistake of referring to one of my daughters as "some little girl". I am under the impression that she is still surprised when I broke things off with her a little while later. And that was around ten years ago.

The only thing that immediately jumps out to me about single parents is that they are still tied in some way to the child's other biological parent. That's why I got the film was for that color effect. It's pretty insane color saturation, but I think it works for the subject here. I've got 3 other rolls shot with "realistic" color. I plan to try some of the Fuji films people have recomended
- Adrian
Incidentally, the guy at the camera shop told me this film is "professional grade". It certainly looks very different from all the other rolls I shot. My guess is with the right filters, and studio lighting, you could control the color skew and get some lovely color effects out of this.
- Adrian
Yeah, I can see how with the polarizers it would have come out different looking. But you can see I'm partial to the warmer reds. I love how the Kodak Gold 200 looked. And the HD 400 looks more "professional" to my untrained eye.
- Admiral Anika
I'm curious if I can recreate this color effect from the cheaper films in post. Probably pretty easy. In modern film production they shoot flat and color grade in post. I know... different ball game, but I'd just rather buy the cheapo film if it works.
- Adrian
I'm sure you can. I can duplicate messing around with the photos from Ilia's POS camera. And is she eating sand in those photos?

Ok, ook at the photo of Chris (guy on bike). He's not wearing any of the colors that "flare" in some of the other photos (the "Amani orange", "Alton green", "Kate pink"), and that one has "perfect" color. Check out the sky color.

Adrian, the last time I shot on film, I was using Velvia. Love it!

You know what? I'm tired of apologizing for and/or defending the things that make me who I am, both the good things and the bad (or the things that go either way depending on your perspective).
I curse when I shouldn't. I laugh a lot, often at the wrong times. I live in the south. I cry when I get mad. I'm silly and goofy. I'm strong-willed and independent. I procrastinate. I truly suck at follow-through. I'm healthy as a horse and eat like one. My house is a disheveled mess 90% of the time. I'm too big, too small, too smart, too obvlivious, too caring, and too self-centered all at the same time, depending on who you ask. The list goes on and on and on, and you know what? It's who I am. I can't control the fact that someone, somewhere is going to take it personally whether I want them to or not.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Not really even apologizing, at least not always. Sometimes it's the feeling bad or guilty for things I can't control, things that are me because of circumstances of birth and genetics. They're part of who I am but I can't really take credit for them, so why feel bad about them?
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
it took me a long time to come to that conclusion. Be yourself, fuck the rest. No use worrying about something. If you can change it, CHANGE IT if it bugs you. If you can't control it, move on, forget about it. Control what you can control. If you're happy, that's all that matters.

i think you should apologize for saying such crazy things....well? I'm waiting.....
- Morgan Haley
*GASP* You have entirely too much self esteem young lady! How dare you be happy with yourself! Fix it now! ;)
- Soup
still waiting...*hums quietly - dum dee dum dum....dee dee dum dum dah*
- Morgan Haley
a little bit of self confidence can be a very dangerous thing! :-)
- Morgan Haley
I wasted way too many years apologizing (or feeling like I *had* to) for who I am. The really stupid part was that the people who would try the hardest to make me feel guilty about some aspect of my personality, *loved* that aspect about me, as long as it suited their interests.

The first comment sorta reminded me of the lyrics to a song. Threads like this and the other sorta make me wonder whether people had thicker skin years ago or people were just generally less offensive. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle? Maybe nothing's changed? Or maybe it's because they had to ask themselves "If I say this, will I get stabbed?" D=
- Jered Hofker
Jered, I think 100 years ago our worlds were small enough that almost all the people you would come in contact with were going to be like you in almost every way. You didn't have to think about how you (or the people around you) were different and take it into account, so it was a non-issue. I came into contact with more nationalities on my way to lunch today than people in my area...

Congratulations... you are a human! :) Welcome to the club
- The Catz Meow
i agree that you should be proud of you. I am proud to even be affiliated with you this tiny bit here on friendfeed. i agree with Mike's comment of 'if you can change something and it bugs you, change it'. As long as people aren't hiding self doubt behind the "I am Proud of Me" cloak.. I am a big fan of you being proud of you!
- Cody Heitschmidt
If you can't be yourself, who can you be? :)
- ha3rvey (Ho)^3
I gotta say I can be an insensitive lout on a regular basis. I, too, often laugh at inappropriate times. But, as the saying goes, I yam what I yam, so, tough twinkies.
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
Wait, twinkies can get tough? I thought that was a chemical impossibility...
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Amen! I have been saying the same thing a *lot* lately. :-/
- David Cook
That's kinda what I was getting at, Tina. "You didn't have to think about how you (or the people around you) were different and take it into account." I think you're right to an extent, but there have always been cliques, teasing and bigotry and, whether it's "Those Bratty Hofker Boys" or "Those Crazy Catholics" or anything more inflammatory, it seems like people managed to get past it...

@Tina, They go stale (although not always hard assuming they keep their wrappers) after 7 years. Hence the mostly-American tradition of passing out twinkies to PhD candidates following the completion of their comprehensive examinations. Most programs allow for a maximum of 7 years between completing the exams and completing the dissertation. If your twinkie goes stale so do you (and then you have to retake all the classes usually, oof!)

i am thinking about the heated debates, unpleasant scenes with opinionated women who blame me for being negative, since they are always convincing themselves of positive, winning, uplifting mantras, and they just cannot stand it when people are not seeing the wonderful potential there is for miracles, wishful thinking, etc.. they just don't want to see that we are stumbling into a...

Personally, I love the drama of talking about the drama and how people don't want to be part of said drama anymore. Or don't care about the drama. ;)
- CAJ, somewhere else
Luckily Curtis, this post wasn't about drama, FF or otherwise. It was just me figuring out something about myself and sharing it. Maybe someone read it and decided they'd get a little more comfortable in their skin too.

Years ago my first husband used to tell me all the time that I "laughed too much and too loud" I remember how good it felt to dump him and how much I laughed and how loud! Go Tina :D
- martha
And that was exactly my point!! I love that you feel this way!! People are way too wrapped up on stereotypes or what they are "suppose to be" instead of what they are. I usually just tell people, I'm just me, no more, no less, and frankly I don't really need to be anything else.
- Nimabeckie
Tina, my comment was a groggy attempt at humor. :/ I wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying. Often times we (and I really mean I, in this case) have been trained to be "PC", or our interpretation of it. We become afraid to say or do the very things that make us...well, us. I'm really picking up what your putting down and appreciate you including us on your journey. :)
- CAJ, somewhere else
No worries, Curtis: that was my groggy attempt at a terse yet polite response and it may or may not have been so. I think we've both learned a valuable lesson about groggy FFing </silliness>
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
This is kind of the "live out loud" mantra. Enjoy life, stop being self-conscious, and all that. Not that I'm telling you what to do, of course.
- anna sauce
Tina - your description sounds like a mirror image of me...but I'd add one more. No - I don't want your self-help book so I can change my faults! Without "faults" how would we recognize our strengths?
- Robyn Hawk
Totally agree. Be you. Be you, better - when you can. But always be you.
- Anthony Citrano
@chaz2b, that leash is actually ferret :) We only got two leash and those were already in use so needed to have something so the little one got outside too. It worked out fine with that. @Jemm, sure does :) @Yolanda <3<3
