Re: Doctors’ group says marijuana regs should be relaxed for research - http://newmexicoindependent.com/41566...
"Just the fact that cannabis is described by the Feds a a "narcotic" belies their unscientific prejudice. Opium and its derivatives are narcotics, marijuana is a cannabinoid. But whoever said the Feds believe in science." - Rachel Cogent

Re: More medical marijuana providers will be needed soon, Drug Policy Alliance says - http://newmexicoindependent.com/41511...
"And you can bet that Big Pharma hates what is happening. I would support any legislation to localize economies. In fact, let's have some state-imposed tariffs on luxury consumables like sugar and alcohol. Give the in-state producers some incentive." - Rachel Cogent

"I'm really hyped about this being a local sustainable "green" (LOL) economy rather than pharmaceutical dollars funneling to giant multinational corporations. Let's have more such legislation!" - Rachel Cogent

Re: RNC mailer posing as Census Mailer appears in NM - http://newmexicoindependent.com/41218...
"Not too surprising really. The Census is a truly democratic institution that identifies minority populations and socialistically funnels resources to them. An accurate census has been the bellwether of democracy for generations of distrustful immigrants. In the historical past, new immigrants had to be lubricated with promises that the government had their best interest in mind, because immigrants had learned to lie to the government every chance they had. Bachmann's fear of census taking is a throwback to a century ago." - Rachel Cogent

Re: Dustup over Taos hotelier goes national - http://newmexicoindependent.com/40414...
"Well it's obvious, if you were an Indian working for some American corporation at the call center you would call yourself Patty instead of Padma. So this ex-Marine sees Taos as being colonized by himself. The foreigner works for him, so his name should be called Martin rather than Marteen. The 3rd world in being conquered by Texas. Just like Iraq." - Rachel Cogent

Re: State medical marijuana patients get good news, but still run legal risks - http://newmexicoindependent.com/...
"Someday terminally ill people will wax nostalgic for the good old days when cannabis smokers would just get thrown in prison and spend their dying days safely behind bars. I guess they will have to find another minority to fill our ubiquitous prisons with, and finally offer actual medical care to HIV patients." - Rachel Cogent

Re: News organizations should help us decipher health care reform - http://newmexicoindependent.com/39372...
"Yeah. I listen to a lot of conservative (AKA "omnipresent") talk radio and all I hear is nonstop hysterical lies. I just wonder why the publicly owned electromagnetic spectrum is allowed to be used as a propaganda channel for despotic corporations to attack democracy. This is possibly the most ironic aspect of capitalism. Our government, which owns the airwaves, has allowed economic warlords to seize the resource and use it against its owners. It would be like if we gave our enemies our weapons to use against us. Very weird situation." - Rachel Cogent

Re: Dems vs. Insurance Industry, Round II - http://newmexicoindependent.com/39286...
"If you took away the US Postal Service, what do you think would happen to postal rates? With only FedEx and UPS "competing with each other", you would have despotic turf wars and rampant price gouging. So... think of the USPS as a regulatory agency that operates at a loss. We should have the same system for internet access, and telephone, and all sorts of required services. It would set the floor, and anyone wanting "Cadillac Services" could just pay for it. That would end all these corporate monopolies." - Rachel Cogent

"LOL, the modern government will be staffed by religious fundamentalists who believe in THE RAPTURE. That is to say, Jesus will return and all things will be made whole. So what is the point of NOT borrowing? After all, money will be irrelevant during Armageddon. Might as well borrow up the yinyang and party hearty!" - Rachel Cogent

Re: Throw enough money at Johnny and surely he’ll read - http://newmexicoindependent.com/...
"Why do we need Big Government meddling in local education? For the same reason we need laws agains cellphone talking while driving. Without regulation, people behave recklessly endangering the public. Without standards and regulation, school districts push their own parochial theocratic racist political agenda, resulting in the long-term decline of democracy. True that our educational is not ideal, even with Big Government. But without government intervention, we would still be stuck in the 1950s with racial segregation and publicly funded religious schools." - Rachel Cogent

Re: PNM to drop out of Chamber of Commerce over climate concerns - http://newmexicoindependent.com/37442...
"This is very good news, PNM must have figured out that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the world's most egregious polluters. I salute PNM for the decision, and encourage ALL local (meaning NOT transnational) businesses to do the same." - Rachel Cogent

""Sign this release before you die". Big Pharma already has total immunity from lawsuits resulting from “Swine Flu” vaccines. Doctors who decide in a dire emergency that someone should die so a less severe case can use their equipment can be sued. What's wrong with this picture? Why are our expectations of Big Pharm so much less than doctors who try to save lives while performing the difficult decisions of triage? Well it's obvious. Big Pharm is a corporation, who by definition have no personal liability (even though they have all the bribery rights of persons). Doctors by now must find it so difficult to practice medicine that they may refuse to treat disaster victims altogether." - Rachel Cogent
