Must be nice to have the option to say screw off to about 70% of the browser market. I don't like IE anymore either but as someone who creates websites for companies that have to be accessible to the majority of people surfing the web, I have to support it. We develop on FF and I always get mad when our boss demos our stuff to management on IE since I save those lovely cross-browser bugs for last. His excuse: "It's what came installed on my computer." The RIAA needs to understand that instead of being a bully and screwing over the very fans that help musicians make a living, they should be helping sites like Muxtape flourish because they encourage music discovery. The radio model is broken. Music discovery is dead on the radio. To discover, you need to be able to share, to explore music with friends, etc. I've bought more music because I've heard friends music online or in other places than I have through any RIAA-approved method.

Lindsay: whenever sketching generic faces, the face starts as an inverted triangle and the eyes appear a third of the way down from the top of the forehead; lips and nose appear below and above (respectively) a line 1/3 up from the chin. The artist proportions were laid out by the Greeks as the perfect human, that's not being used here. This beautification engine, I think, builds on top of a previous study where some students tried to mathematically identify attractiveness. They had participants rate the attractiveness of head shots from yearbooks. What they found was there was a high correlation b/w the geometrically "average" face and high attraction. stances between the individual elements of the face and their relative sizes. IIRC the software adjusts elements so they statistically/geometrically complement each other. It's not actually working toward a golden set of proportions, but a set of proportions appropriate for the individual as defined by the masses. @Chris - I'm not tarring the whole city like this one man. Only that on this is pretty bad PR for the publicly funded/supported museum. As someone from outside the US, PR is everything and this doesn't do well to make me want to spend my money there. SFO may or may not be better. I've only ever been via LAX in the past. I'm sorry, and yes, this is bad PR, but this seems a lot of pushing the interpretation due to lack of knowledge of technical terms. As Nathan pointed out in another thread, it did say "handheld" cameras. Of course, everyone will argue that a DSLR is technically a handheld camera if you can hold it in your hand, but unless you're an idiot, you'd interpret that as a point 'n shoot. I don't expect everyone will recognize lenses. Shoot, *I* can't tell the difference and I live way more camera equipment than... - Cyndy

Also, when this stuff happens, contacting local newspapers and TV might help increase awareness...along with simply refusing to patronize entities that take this approach. Cyndy: I guess I'm an idiot, because I interpret "handheld" camera to mean a camera held in one's hand, as opposed to on a tripod. Most museums without absurd photography policies allow visitors to take photos, just not use flashes or camera supports (monopods or tripods). I've never heard of a policy where you can take as many photos as you want as long as they're crappy (because you can't use a good camera). - Gabe Schaffer
