Crap. I accidently clicked "ignore" on an invitation from someone in Google reader, but I actually wanted to follow. How do I fix it so I can follow that person??
you can get that person to add you again, or you can search for them by name or add them by email address.
- Jenna Bilotta
you can also look at the list of your followers, find that person and follow them back. you can get to your list of followers from the "sharing settings" page.
- Jenna Bilotta
I didn't get a chance to ignore you, so I'll unfollow and see...

Group comments that refer on a single Feed Entry? Avoid duplicates in streams? With us soon, but yet there as a masked superhero: Google Sidewiki, soon there also your Google Reader comments, and is all bread for Wave. Blog's comments are dead. What do u think?
Several weeks ago I noticed an item shared from Google Reader that displayed only the one item, although that person's shared item feed was active, and that item was displayed further down the list ( chronologically ). This function has potential. Check out this test share; http://www.google.com/reader... and then click on the link to my shared items. There's a difference.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Google Contacts has been disconnected from Google Reader. I've been able to follow several people since this problem started, but their names only show on my contacts page. I do get their updates as new comments in my Google Reader, but I have no name to attach to groups. I can like their shared items, and also comment on their shared items and my 'comments' label turns to bold text whenever someone updates ( including myself ).
- Wallace
Maybe you're right. I can't even get to the people I follow list, since the "You are following..." message is not visible.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
All data about followed and followers has disappeared from Contacts. It was there yesterday so I suspect Wallace is right about the disconnect.
- Polly Potter
Well, it's bedtime here in India and I'm all done for the weekend. Let's see how Google Reader behaves tomorrow morning!
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Mahendra, I'm having similar problems, and now I can't add any notes or see my own shared items.
- Kamilah Gill
Kamilah, the latest shared item of yours that I can see is from two days ago. Have you shared since then?
- Wallace
Shares are showing up, but with no profile pictures. Also, my follow list is empty.
- Harrison Powers
I'm definitely experiencing "people you follow" being empty. Much angst here. Well, maybe not really. Virtual angst, maybe? Much else on google reader seems fine. :D
- Rob Schieber
Wallace, I might not have shared anything else in that time span. Can't really remember, I post in so many places. Gr definitely is messed up for me now

I see no avatars and no comments in mobile, though comments view has items. I hope thus means some fixes we've wanted are on the way, but some notice would be good. Why are we always being notified after the fact?

This is what is happening to me (http://ff.im/7JFoG).. Be careful about using it when it is having problems.. hopefully it is JUST a front end issue!! Kol I'm seeing the same thing!! Anyone else getting javascript errors?
- Chris Myles
not working for me, cannot open sharing settings and do not see people I am following
- Gerald Hildebrandt
Still the same. Thanks everyone - when I first reported the issue I got swamped with a 'works fine for me' response on Twitter. Now I feel much better. :)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Google Reader seems to be working great for me. If there are any issues with slowness, I had assigned them to our hotel's network. But yes, you can see I am still sharing items.
- Louis Gray
Louis: Many people have reported the issue, so it may be a load distribution problem affecting only some.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Harrison: that's a brilliant idea! Works like a charm. :) I just discovered there are a dozen new people following me after my article on Feedly yesterday.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
I love the internet! Always find an answer somewhere!
- David Slater
hmmm doesn't work for me .. hopefully I'm not totally screwed!!
- Chris Myles
Lot's of people have been trying to use GR as their new social network... this outage (with silence) does not bode well. I fear we'll lose many we gained. It's one thing to be buggy or lack some functionality, but a different thing all together to lose almost all functionality and not keep your users informed. Have we learned nothing?
- Vince DeGeorge
Oh, except I can add new RSS which goes through because I can access the subscription page.
- Myrna
That's a quick way to ruin my day. I use Google Reader soo much.
- Hunt
from FreshFeed
Hunt, same here. Myrna: did you try using the German version? Worked for me.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Thanks Harrison, the German version seems to work for me! Now maybe I can shut the working window down without fear...oops never mind....I'm stuck with the open window..
- Wallace
Yes, I went through most of everyone's items already. So are we in German from now on lol
- Myrna
Actually - Norwegian & Polish version is working here, too - thanks for the info, Harrison. And well, 'long live open communication!' ;) :)
- Hanna Wiszniewska
German localized version is also working for me (in Germany ;-) ), but not English UI
- Gerald Hildebrandt
Hmm, I continue to have the same problems everyone has mentioned with Reader after almost 24 hours now. The German version will work, but I don't read German. Is there a way around the language barrier?
- John Ladd
John, you don't have to read German really if you know GR. The posts are in English. If you use the German page you will see how familiar it becomes..mostly! :)
- Myrna
What about Jenna. I will message her on fb. She is one of the GR staff.
- Myrna
Mine is working; I'm in US. Google Contact info still missing but shows in GR.
- Polly Potter
Actually, Reader's working for me although not consistently. I'm often having to mark read a number of articles several times before they're actually marked as such.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, wonder why its working for some and not for others. Most of the people I follow now are working on the German page.
- Myrna
I've set up a new Google Account ( wallace.lockhart2@gmail.com ) to try and solve this problem on my end. My new profile page ( http://www.google.com/profile... ) is up, and I've imported all my contacts from my old account ( wallace.lockhart@gmail.com ). My followers/followees are viewable now in my GR so far comments are functional. If someone could visit the new profile, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
- Wallace
Thanks, Myrna. I suppose I should have thought of that! Thanks for pointing out that I was missing the obvious. :P
- John Ladd
Wallace, I subbed to your new GR but it is not showing up yet.
- Polly Potter
I got it Polly, thanks! It seems to be working now. I'll leave a comment on your latest shared item.
- Wallace
Now the English version is busted; can still read subs but people I follow is empty. Can see them in the German version.
- Polly Potter
Myrna/Wallace: Think so. Because in order to comment, the user should have added you to a group.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Myrna, I have removed everyone from groups on my old page. I still have links to those contacts in GR, and periodically try to add them. No success yet. This may be link rot. Rapid link rot. Here's my new shared items link; http://www.google.com/reader... Until Google gets this straightened out, I"ll be sharing from one page and pushing feeds out of the other. Oh well, it's free. Thanks for your concern, patience and help folks.
- Wallace
Wallace, can't you just go to the French or German page and continue from there. It's the same and I can comment and like everything.
- Myrna
I tried the German and Polish pages, and both behaved as the English (US) page. But never mind that! I just discovered that I can follow my old tagged feeds that I push out of my old account and continue to post in my new account! That means I don't need two accounts! Woo hoo...!
- Wallace
UPDATE FROM GOOGLE: The GR team says "We've rolled out a workaround for this problem, reloading Reader should enable you to see your friends list (and other functionality) correctly again." Everyone, please sign out of Google Reader, restart your browser, login again. It should work. (From GetSatisfaction: http://getsatisfaction.com/google_...)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Yep, we just rolled out a workaround. If you're still having problems after reloading, please reply in the GetSatisfaction thread.
- Mihai Parparita
It worked for me without signing out of google and without reloading. Just changed the settings from French to English.
- Myrna
Chris, thanks for the update! I wonder if yours was an extra-special case though, since if the specific use case of someone you're following adding their "Like" stream to Google Profile was the issue, then folks like Louis Gray would also have been affected, since he follows the same people and many more (I believe) than all of us who had the problem.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Yeah I'm not sure but I am glad they came back with a response.. I'll be even happier when I can get my comments out to back them up or use externally.
- Chris Myles
Just lost access to ALL my @googlereader followers, shared items, notes AND comments WTF? @scobleizer at least you had a *chance* to backup your data. Closed systems without access to your data and EFFORTS suck!!
"Oops...an error occurred. Please try again in a few seconds". Does 151,200 count as a few? I tried logging in and out, clearing my cache.. a different browser, even a different machine. I KNOW they are still there, because I can see them from my other account (thanks to Louis Gray's fantastic follower management). So what gives? (http://groups.google.com/group...)

I'm not sure if this is a good sign.. the Oops message went away.. now it wants to know if I want to follow Louis. hmm. I'm not touching a thing until I hear from Reader (@scobleizer I feel your pain). BTW Facebook.. - Wallace
Chris - you were the one that wouldn't stay "followed" last night - now we're all three in the same boat -- I wonder if it's just us?
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
Wallace.. yeah I got screwed because I closed my window to try and reset it. I had two windows up testing a like view when I noticed the strange side effect!! Hopefully it is just an update!!
- Chris Myles
Richard.. no worries.. I'll see how it settles out naturally. Nothing against Louis, but it certainly isn't his problem to solve. We were JUST having a Google support discussion last night. If the Reader team isn't going to help me, I'll gladly go somewhere else!! I'm sick and tired of Google's lack of support/feedback!!
- Chris Myles
Upgrade to the error message at 10 800 sec. "Sorry, an unexpected condition has occurred which is preventing Google Reader from fulfilling the request." it also said I had "No comments.. would I like to learn more?".. Yes Please.. I want to learn how to get my old ones back!!...
- Chris Myles
When/If this gets resolved you might want to read of this before you decide to respond (or not).. ".., but to answer a serious outage with silence doesn't fill me with pleasure." http://www.louisgray.com/live....
- Chris Myles
Chris, I was only hoping Louis could make the greader team aware of the problem in case they weren't already. As an emergency measure.
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
Richard, I understand.. trust me I tried to do the same thing about general Google support, then I realized it's wrong. Louis is "just" a popular blogger, dumping on him isn't going to help Google's problems (i.e. they should know about it). Louis is doing a great job fostering open communication and the sharing of ideas, dumping on him will only hurt this effort. Goggle needs to hear from more than one source. Anyway thanks for clarifying, I hope you understand my position!
- Chris Myles
Chris and Richard, I'm not deaf to your situation, just busy (away from the computer for much of the last two days). Have you seen improvements?
- Louis Gray
Yeah just came back up.. and BTW I think you *should be deaf*.. Google's the one that needs to be listening!! Thanks for the check in.. hope you enjoyed your (much needed) break!!
- Chris Myles
We all know Google's deaf, as far as we peons can tell - and Louis, I actually did expect you to be unavailable - The long weekend and all that. Apparently Google goofed, and then fixed the problem. The other bug-lets I know of are still there, at least for me.

Hey Chris - The bug occurred due to an edge case where if a user you were following added their "like" stream to their Google Profile, the friends' feeds feature threw some errors which resulted in taking down your friends list, which basically means all of your social features disappeared. Be careful, I just spent 42 hours without access to all my Reader shares, notes, comments etc (http://ff.im/7JFoG) .. kept getting "please try again in a few seconds"..151,200 is a lot of seconds to be waiting.. & still no official word from the Reader team, will it happen again? For more efficient curated content we need more people to tag their Google Reader items and make the tags public, and a place with a catalog of Reader public tags, where you can find them and subscribe to them- and ideally, a TagFeed that works like FriendFeed - http://friendfeed.com/google-...
""cool" via Recommendations" is a Google Reader feed that pushes out all sorts of wacky stuff. I'm thinking 'cool' is the tag that 'Recommendations' uses in their Google Reader. The question is, "Who is Recommendations, and do they have any 'serious' feeds published in Google Reader?"
- Wallace
yes, i think that is the case. I looked up at the url. it is https://www.google.com/reader...: I think someone who calls himself "Recommendations" tags his shares as cool and has made that tag public- if everyone does this- i think we can enjoy the reader much more.
- nat bas
I subscribed to 'Conciousness', looks good! I push about 50 feeds out of Google Reader, tagged by topics that I'm interested in.
- Wallace
50 feeds? That is amazing! How do people like me get to know where your feeds are? I have just ten- and they are public as a Google Doc- http://docs.google.com/View...

Now I'm subbed to your hacks feed, Wallace. Thanks for sharing.

@Wallace- Thanks for jottit. Seems a good place. Subscribed to "armenia notes" and "armenia" (What's the difference?). Ever since I read william saroyan, i've been interested in armenia. Glad to get feeds about it through you. Thanks, again.(minutes later)- I've trouble subscribing to it. They don't show up in my Reader. Will try again later this evening.
- nat bas
nat bas; armenia notes was my first effort, where I tagged items in the Google Reader window. At that time Armenia was suffering a full scale media blackout following a controversial election. Some posts where full page, others were not. Armenia notes is items tagged with the Google Reader bookmarklet and mostly full page posts directly from the source. I checked both, and they seem to...

Who says RSS is dead? @scobleizer could use @googlereader to get his lost blog post's html back. RSS as backup.. don't forget to use the full feed option.
I'm not exactly sure how to link Disqus back, maybe it's as simple as re-adding the old posts with the same title/date i.e. Url (I don't use it or wordpress). Yet another reason to use FULL RSS feeds (instead of summary).

CAUTION: georss information gets stripped from the feed so Reader is NOT a complete database, there may be more!! I would LOVE to know if the Reader team plans to fix this. MF/Kol = I live in Kingston on Thames. It's OK apart from the traffic (continually gridlocked) and the shops (girls just lurve them). Handy for getting into London both airports and out to the Thames Valley for work type things. Richmond Park and the river in walking distance is great too.

"With the news that Friendfeed was being sold to Facebook for an undisclosed sum, people have started flocking over to Google Reader, which shows you how fickle the internet can be. One minute they are all in Friendfeed professing their love for it and the next they are moving over to Google Reader just because they may not agree with the future direction of the other site. I have always been more of a Reader person than a Friendfeed person. I don’t know why but I feel more comfortable with Reader. Maybe it’s because it is tightly integrated with Gmail so I can email things to myself, maybe it’s because Reader has a really nice user interface so I can whiz about from post to post. I can’t pin it down but Reader has always been my preferred app. Say what you like about Google but they always instinctively seem to know what is good for the general net user and what works / doesn’t work. As a result, they have built an app which is primed to benefit from any disgruntled Friendfeed users if Facebook messes too much with it."

Since I joined Friendfeed 14 months ago, Google Reader has been my Friendfeed client. Maybe because I'm more a "reader" person than a "comment" or "like" one?

Why does Google Reader say I am "Acharya Hector Ramos"? I keep receiving e-mails directed to the real Acharya Hector Ramos, who has another Gmail address, so it seems like Google also assumes I am him and is now using it as my Google Reader name? My Google Profile is correct, so I don't know why Google Reader is mistaken.
