To Disqus or not to Disqus… - http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r...
Someone..anyone Help? - Gordon Swaby
Do it. Don't look back. - Louis Gray
Obviously you guys did not read my blog post. Read it and answer my question, please and thank you? - Gordon Swaby
I read it. #1, Disqus has only gone down once that I know of, and it was for about an hour. #2, all services have some level of risk, but Disqus is looking to get strong import/export capabilities. Your comments are no more at risk with Disqus than they would be with Haloscan, Blogger, TypePad, etc. - Louis Gray
Thanks Louis - Gordon Swaby
You can keep all your existing comments in Wordpress and install Disqus for your future posts. However, there isn’t a way to export the comments back to WordPress, yet. I beleive that IntenseDebate does export comments back to WordPress. Both systems can be linked to FriendFeed. Whatever system you choose, if they go down, your comments go with them. So far I have only heard of minimal disturbances in service and nothing too serious. I also believe trackbacks are still an issue for both. You’ll need to do some research on your own before you choose one, but I do recommend that you install one of the two. It has definitely increased the amount of comments on the blog and makes it very friendly for both users and authors. - Shey
If you want a broader audience, do it. It's beneficial to me as a commenter, and it's beneficial to you as a moderator. All the blogs out there that support Disqus make it extremely easy to continue a conversation, and will keep me going back to them. Disqus is not going anywhere, and support has been on the ball. I am sure exporting is coming. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
Did you mean to say 'Disqus is not going anywhere"? or was that a mistake - Gordon Swaby
sorry, guess that could be taken either way :) I mean, it isn't going anywhere as in it's here to stay. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
I think he meant that Disqus isn't going to disappear. - Shey
Ooops my bad. I interpreted it differentl. Hahaha - Gordon Swaby
I'm feeling stupid; but what the heck is the "Disqus Forum URL: " it's asking me for it. Are they talking about here "http://disqus.disqus.com/"? - Gordon Swaby
ok i'm out of my stupid state; got it running - Gordon Swaby
If you're seriously paranoid, schedule regular backups on the comment data, they can all be exported from Disqus itself. In terms of commenting, I'm only aware of Disqus going down one. If you're running the API WP plugin, your blog reverts to the regular commenting system when it cant hit Disqus, (and presuming you've ticked the add Disqus for no-comments, new posts option). That one time it went down only affected me in that all of a sudden I had some old fashioned inline commenting again. - Duncan Riley
Thanks Anthony figured it out before i saw that though, they should have asked for subdomain and not forum name. - Gordon Swaby
@ duncan. Thanks for the add. Also that very informative. Thanks alot - Gordon Swaby
been playing around with it, i like it better than anything i've seen so far, but still having a few issues with it (that's on my end- i'm running a nucleus based blog and haven't quite figured out all the integration issues.) i've had to suspend all my comments due to trolls, even adding captcha didn't work. seems like disqus has a handle on that. hope to add disqus to future posts. - michael sean wright
Wow I didn't realize people still used Nucleus. I had a Nucleus blog a couple years ago - Shey
@Shey yeah yeah, i know- the road is dusty but i'm a believer that you should dance with the one that brung ya. it's so frustrating at times- but trying to support the open source community there (nuts!!) - michael sean wright
