Why Blog: on the act of Creation - http://erics-sandbox.blogspot.com/2009...
http://redgreenandblue.org/2009... I like solar and all, but does solar IN San Francisco make sense? SF seems a bit foggy and dense/expensive. Shouldn't we put the solar plant outside the city? Anyone have thoughts on this one?

This story puts some perspective on things. It's so easy to demonize a whole company, to blame them for this mess. But it's never that simple. - http://www.nytimes.com/glogin...
Yeah, the outrage against the bonuses had something of a feel of a witch hunt, and now one of the witches turns out to be an ordinary hard working person (albeit one that seems to be fairly well off). Like Jake, I wonder why Mr. Liddy didn't try to tell this story more clearly a week or two ago. - Evan Parker

Today's WSJ opinion section has a decent discussion of tax liability for the bonuses and why employees might be motivated to not give the bonuses back, because they may end up owing more than 100% on a bonus if they return it, as opposed to merely 90% if they keep it. http://online.wsj.com/article... Sounds like donating the money may be the best way to go. Jake says he will donate his bonus money, I wonder if he went through the same math? - Evan Parker
Well, part of the analysis notes that you aren't eligible to deduct the entire bonus if your income is above a certain threshold...with a bonus of $700K I'd bet he can't deduct all of it, and therefore would be liable for some tax on the money he no longer has; however, the final bill, if it passes, will probably make some effort to clear up that problem. My guess is that the punitive 90% won't pass, though, because ultimately they won't be able to figure out how to make it work... - Eric Hultgren
