Noah, it's an image bookmarking service. The only way to get in on it is to be invited and each person gets one invite to pass on.

Is the chain still going? Because I would love to join the chain...

Dude, do you see the link up there? If you're going to ask for something, you may want to follow directions or you'll get ignored. Just saying.

I will definitely invite others in the chain as soon as I get invited!!! chuckod@gmail.com

im looking for an invitation for really long. the one who invites me also gets one invitation code back. reply to fs-fill@gmx.de please

i'd be really happy if i could let the chain go on reply to fs-fill [at] gmx [dot] de

looking for an invitation too! any help would be welcome pvonier@gmail.com
- Pascale
yeah, it'd be a great idea - the first problem is there's always an asshole who'll break the chain rather than contribute. The second issue is there's no-one who has a FFFFOUND! invite ATM.

please invite me also | manishkhatri4u at gmail.com

not one person is gonna get a invite.... here what you could do to help your chances; start a tumblr or something similar and start collecting/posting pics. If your collection is awesome enough i bet you get a invite. Now I do not know this to be fact but it couldn't hurt.....
- Brian Moore
would like to be invited and to share. tnx comunic at hotmail.com

I have an idea for a google wave firefox extension (update notifications and wave editing). If anyone has an invite they could send me I'll return the favor with a beta invite to the app. Email is gabe.ragland[[at]]gmail.com
You guys should be looking at the Facebook OpenStream API (you probably are, but thought I'd mention it anyway). You could let users pull their entire FB newsfeed into friendfeed, comment, like, and push that activity back to Facebook. Huge opportunity there.
We were able to do this for a day or day but they closed down their RSS feed app due to privacy issues.
- Kol Tregaskes
Yeah, their new API allows for this, so you don't need to use RSS feeds. A user would just grant friendfeed access to their stream. There are restrictions on exposing that content to other people or making it searchable.. so this may not fit in to FF's strategy.
- grag
Quick weekend project I whipped up, using facebook connect. Not quite viral, but I haven't had to promote it at all. Looking for ideas on how I could make it a bit more engaging. I think people like the whole recruiting friends aspect. Maybe there are other fun social actions / interactions that could drive people to click?
- grag
Is this a facebook application to be added to facebook account?
- TrafficBug
It's a facebook connect website (external fb app). You login via facebook, it grabs your fb name/pic to add you to the wall, and you can send invites to fb friends from givingbutton.com
- grag
It has potential as a one stop post to multiple accounts.
- Russellreno
just tried this out & looks really interesting - worth giving a shot guys.
- Zee.
Maybe it's Friday, but I am getting Soc Net fatigue... yet another me-too aggregator?
- Sally Church
no no - not really like that. honestly. It's not a friendfeed or anything like that.
- Zee.
When I try to post from Flickr to FF it tells me I need to use the Remote Key but there is no place to input it.
- Russellreno
not for me, interesting concept and I'm sure some will love it but I don't care for the setup/intro, I've got some privacy concerns and I'm jealous about my screen real estate.

Tried it out. It looks promising. I need a bigger monitor though or my 2nd one at the office. :) Recommended.

Hi everyone, Fraser from AdaptiveBlue here - the group behind Glue. If you have any questions please let me know, I'm happy to answer anything and everything. If you want to read a great review about the product here's one from Wired's WebMonkey blog. They have an excellent line that saves me from having to describe what the service does: "Glue is the single most useful social networking tool I’ve encountered and using it is actually much simpler than describing what it does." http://bit.ly/GlueWired
- Fraser
An image bookmarking site I built using the laconi.ca microblogging software (edit: no longer built on laconi.ca, see my my most recent comment below). You can also have your favorites auto-posted to your friendfeed stream (uses the friendfeed api). Would love some feedback!
- grag
Cool Gabe...checking it out now...thanks! Just added a few pics, thanks!!
- Susan Beebe
Just signed up - will have a play & let you know. Like the idea & simplicity of it...also, i'm not really using a simple service for this kind of thing - not even flickr, so it's a nice little niche especially with the FF integration. Needs a bit of styling...but that can come in a bit. It's a great way to catch peoples eye though & show you mean business - a spanking logo, simple design & attention to detail.
- Zee.
how do i find other users? subscribe to them, etc...
- Susan Beebe
some great pics on there though have to say
- Zee.
Susan: If you click on a user's name there will be a subscribe link under their avatar.
- grag
Looks cool, Gabe, I just signed up. I'll give it the full shake down soon.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
Well, I'm back from that rabbit hole. Simple, useful - priceless.
- Russellreno
Gabe - got it! LOVE YOUR APP...this rocks!! nice work dude! :)
- Susan Beebe
I have a suggestion... is there a way that we can have things posted to FF in separate posts? Usually I post something to FF so it can have it's "own conversation". Having a bunch of random pictures I liked show up in one post doesn't give that a chance to happen... Just a thought. I like the service, just not quite thrilled with the FF integration the way it is.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
Thanks for checking out imgfave everyone! Lindsay, definitely a good suggestion. I think it might make sense to have an option to pick between an hourly rollup of all faved images (like it does now) or having every image auto-posted separately. I'll think about this some more.
- grag
Zee: Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, my plan is to keep imgfave really simple and appeal to users who just want an easy way to bookmark images and share images (and push them out to other services such friendfeed twitter, etc..). A logo and some style improvements are definitely on the todo list. Got some other cool features I'm releasing soon :)
- grag
Gabe - Notice recommendation. Strand sends a notice when I have a mutual connect with a member. That saves researching on the site. FF does not do that.
- Russellreno
Hey Russell: not sure what you mean when you say send a notice when there is a mutual connect. Could you explain that some more?
- grag
...if only FFFFound was open sign-up. (If anyone has one invite please send to SelvRya11@JCPatriot.org )
- Ryan Selvy
Gabe, thanks for leaving your comment. I like what I see in your app. :) Will signup real soon!
- Jonathan Kong
Hoping to get some feedback on the new version of imgfave. I completely re-wrote the site, added ability to organize images into collections, embeddable widget, full keyboard navigation (arrow keys, space bar to fave), facebook connect integration. Mostly I'd love some feedback on first user impression. Is it confusing at all? User growth has been okay, but hoping this new version will jump start things.
- grag
Michael, what site would you want to import your favorites from? I've been thinking about a flickr import option, simply because people have been asking for a way to organize their faves on flickr for ages.
- grag
import flickr favs, ya ya ya! I have thousands...
- Jason Wehmhoener
Do you think vi.sualize.us, ffffound, imgfave and other such image-faving/bookmarking sites infringe copyright? Sites like FriendFeed could be accused of this if you look at it this way!
I've had someone complain that I've faved an image on vi.sualize.us and that I should remove it but I replied telling them they need to contact the site owner not me. Me personally, I'm happy for my photography to be bookmarked. They are not hosting the image, they are linking directly back to the image with the appropriate notice. My site and image gets more exposure and it's not being tempered with. Isn't it like any social site, like FriendFeed. Here we must bookmark and share tons of copyrighted material in image, audio, video or text form? What do you think?
- Kol Tregaskes
I am hearing this more and more. I also ran into this soon after joining FF; I faved a photo in flickr and it showed up on FF when my flickr faves were imported. The person sent me a note asking me to remove her photo from FF. I explained how FF worked with the flickr faves, she asked that I not fave her work as she wanted control of her work and did not want anything outside of flickr linking to her work. Short-sighted in my opinion, but I removed her photo from my faves. :/
- JA Castillo
I don't see what damage it can do as long as it is properly credited. On the contrary distributing content leads to more exposure and if that is the case eventually sales, see the recent example of the official Monty Python videos available on YouTube which actually led to more DVD sales.
- M F
JA, agree with you very short-sighted. OK I'm not copyright expert but I'm happy for people to fave any og my photos be it here, on Flickr or on my photography site. If you don't want your photos faved then don't post them on sites like Flickr!
- Kol Tregaskes
I've been exchanging e-mails with this person. It's actually not a vi.sualize.us problem another site. More news later but it doesn't sound good! :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
I haven't really had any issues with imgfave. I've gotten a few requests to take down images, but people never seem to angry about it. I think most content owners are probably happy that their work is being shared. The more these sites can credit/promote the original source the better though. I noticed vi.sualize.us now shows extra info about flickr photos (the flickr user and image license). I plan on doing something similar on imgfave.
- grag
They may infringe copyright (according to strict DMCA interpretations), but most don't circumvent hotlinking protections (as far as i know) or making a Flickr feed private. It's up to the copyright owner to use the tools that exist on the host site.
- Rob Haas
Who knows until decided by a judge? That is the evil genius of lawyers. That's only half joking. :-/
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
In reality FriendFeed and vi.salize.us should respect the photo's rights, and privacy settings, the APi should be able to indicate the copyright and not grab non CC / PD photos
- Bastard Operator From FF
Ironically this scenario has just happened, FriendFeed have sent me a mail stating that posts of article about cut-out cars from artist, Yoshihiro Inomoto have been removed from here. Fair enough, no complaints from FriendFeed's point of view but the artist, to me, is silly. I said in my reply to FriendFeed but if the artist doesn't want any exposure that's exactly what I'll give them. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Strange how some people do not want free publicity. If you publish your work on the internet you want it to be seen by as many people as possible, I would think. If I link to a website, I don't claim to be the author therefore I'm not stealing anything or infringing copyright. I only share information, at least this is the way I see it.
- M F
In my experience, vi.sualize.us is very careful to make sure the author of the work is given credit. But, if I were to download a picture from Flickr and submit it as my own, their system will not catch it. I think they should check every image against a database like tineye, just so the photographers get proper credit for their work. We definitely don't profit from sharing their images here with others. I think it is the artist who gains from the extra exposure.
- Michael Fidler
Flickr provides a variety of RSS and even KML feeds : per user, pool you name it. If, for instance, I subscribe to any of these feeds and share an item in my Google Reader (or Feedly or whatever) technically do I infringe copyright? After all my shared items can be seen by other people. And what about all those sites that search and retrieve images from Flickr, even when they are not CC/PD?
- M F
A super simple rss aggregator. It's really nothing new for us tech / early adopter folks, but I think these guys are doing a great job appealing to the mainstream (I don't think "rss" is mentioned anywhere on the site). App devs could probably learn a thing or two from their approach. Traffic is growing rapidly: http://siteanalytics.compete.com/bloglov...

The new muxtape is going to be for bands to showcase their music. It's really a completely different product, as he couldn't work out deals with the major labels.
- grag
I hope it works for them ... I really liked Muxtape, but it was clear from the start that it would be only so long before it got a cease and desist.

Muxtape is back! Now, it sees itself as a minimalist platform for bands to promote their music and listeners to create mixes. http://muxtape.com/

the ui for this site is great. definitely going to keep an eye on this startup.

This would be great for a few projects I am supposed to be working on. I hope they will eventually allow groups that can collaborate on timelines, together. (that's what one of my projects is, almost 10 years of involvement & membership of 4 groups that are intertwined and contain a common bond. I am supposed to coordinate the creation of an interactive online timeline of memories & contributions of about 200+ members, to show the history of the 4 groups together)
- April Russo (app103)
Very, very cool. Could have done without the election day moment in the "about" video, though.
- Craig Eddy
April, what media will be part of your timelines?
- Bruce Lewis
We have no idea yet. The project could contain some rather odd things if we really let our imaginations go.
- April Russo (app103)
Among text, photos, audio clips, video clips, what's essential to the project and what's just a possibility?
- Bruce Lewis
Essential: text, photo, audio Possibility: software applications (a great many "hello world" things in the archive) and a few flash files (games & animations)
- April Russo (app103)
i disagree big time Gabe...i just tried it out and really it's nothing on grooveshark, favtape.com nor 8tracks in terms of slickness nor results.

Jump in and swim straight down. 3.8 meters isn't much, and the shark would be more interested in the seal-looking kayak than the weird smelly thing sinking to the bottom...
- Chris Hollander
"Although we had extensively tested the shark’s reactions to an empty kayak and had observed no signs of aggression, this gave us little comfort as we eyed a great white heading straight for us, albeit slowly. Just a metre or so from the craft it veered off, circles and slowly approached from behind. It did this several times, occasionally lifting its head out of the water to get a better look. Then it lost interest, and as it continued on its way we were able to follow a short distance behind."
- Neil Bernhart
oh god. I obviously hate myself because I actually clicked on that shark link and I am now officially scared out of my mind. Do not like sharks at all.
- ♥patricia♥
I picture the shark falling for the "Grant Fitzgerald" and then thinking to himself, "Well played, sir"....

I'll be kayaking in SW Alaska for two weeks next July. Thanks for the nightmares between now and then :)
- jcunwired
oops, sorry Jody...but take solace in the fact that the shark in this picture is well away from Alaska and you now know how to utilize the "Grant Fitzgerald" in dangerous situations...
- Live4Emma (L4S)
This is the main reason I'm hesitant grabbing an ocean kayak for fishing in the Monterey Bay.
- Rodfather
but it just flows (no pun intended) as a chess move or ship name..."The Ballad of the Grant Fitzgerald" or " I beat Gary Kasperov with the Grant Fitzgerald Gambit...in this case, it stands for bowel evacuation as a distraction when being hunted by a 20' Great White...semantics, really...

Save it to imgfave lol. I just joined up with imgfave and immediately saved 11 images.

I'd ask the guy taking the photo from the obviously large boat to get me the hell out of there.
- Rob Sterling
Stop! LOL - well at least it provided the opportunity for the community on FF to come together and create a wonderfully rich selection of options should any one of us happen to find ourselves in this situation. Though, for Grant Fitzgerald, there is the added bonus of now having their name forever synonymous with the involuntary evacuation of ones bowels. Well played, sir......I'm still laughing....!

That's interesting most of you said Friendfeed. I didn't think FriendFeed could be defined as a web app. I guess to answer my own question I'd say friendfeed, gmail, google reader, and sites like imgfave.

Palin might've had an advantage except for the fact that what little executive experience she does have is fraught with corruption and abuses of power. Shitty executive experience = FAIL.
- Victor Ganata
And nothing says "guilty" like not showing up for your subpoena.
- Victor Ganata
I'm sure that her experience up in Alaska is great for a state like Alaska. But I'd love to see how she'd do in a city like Detroit.
- ::Kristen::
Good video. Thanks. As for Palin=FAIL, that's kinda my point. Everyone pokes fun at and attacks Palin, and no one makes good solid points as to why Obama is a better candidate than McCain. If you are just having fun, then thats great. If you are trying to make a point I don't see it. Its McCain that running against Obama- that should be (imho) where people focus their attention. If we're comparing VP candidates, then I'm sorry but I'll take Palin over Biden any day but I'm not basing my decision on the VP's
- Russell Holliman
One point though about the video and the resumes of the past VPs: they seem to *all* have more experience than Obama.
- Russell Holliman
I hear you can see Russia if you stand in the lobby and look out the window ;-)
- Jeff P. Henderson
I think people are concentrating on Palin's qualifications because McCain is so old.
- Gabe
And the hits just keep on coming... that's cool. Just remember, her limited experience negotiating with Canada (yes, Canada) again gives her more real foreign policy experience than Obama. Keep going after Palin and that's whats going to come back.
- Russell Holliman
Wow. Of course, I'm open-minded that a future president could come from humble beginnings. But I'd expect any potential future president to at least sound intelligent when they talk. And proximity to Russia doesn't count as foreign policy experience.
- Mike Reynolds
So no one is worried that, given what little power she's wielded, she's abused it as much as she could? I'd rather have someone who was right than someone who was experienced.
- Victor Ganata
Victor: that's far from proven, or even a provable statement.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
I'll definitely take her over Biden and she is more experienced than Obama. Between the outright falshoods circulated as "fact" about her, the chopped up transcripts and the general "hate Palin" meme it's not a shock that the FF / Twitteratti hate her (lets face it, she hurt Obama, she must me stopped) but that isn't important to the world at large.
- Soulhuntre
It's mind boggling that anyone thinks Palin should be the VP of our country. How can people overlook her corruption? Do we want a leader who cares more about helping her friends careers than actually doing what's right and serving our country?
- grag
Palin, and McCain's real sin in the eyes of many is that they refuse to feel liek they are bad people or that the USA is a bad puppy who must humble itself at the feet of European public opinion. These days pride in the USA simply will not be tolerated. As for her abuse of power? Every supposed case of this so far has turned out to be overblown or outright fabricated. Whereas Obama's acceptance of huge sums of lobbyist money and requests for earmarks is a actual fact. Glass houses and all :)
- Soulhuntre
Gabe: the same way people will overlook Biden's lies and racism I suppose.
- Russell Holliman
@Gabe - a good point, now go point that microscope at Obama's time in Chicago and you'll be surprised at what you find.
- Soulhuntre
Victor: you'd rather have someone that is right? Is that Biden? He's been contradicting Obama's policy statements all week. So who is right?
- Russell Holliman
Point that microscope at Obama and you'll see someone who has abused power and tied his fate to special interests and lobbyists in order to trade money for votes and support. But, Obama is a good person who occasionally does bad things for the cause, whereas McCain and Palin are bad people, no matter what they have done, or do. It's just that simple in the eyes of the Left.
- ComicList
Palin has been governor for not even two years, and she's already being subpoenaed? I'm too cynical to believe that Obama is clean, but c'mon. There's something fishy up there in Alaska, and I ain't talking salmon.
- Victor Ganata
If we refuse to admit that America is in trouble, then how the hell can we possibly fix it? The collapse of the banking industry and of the housing market, the quagmires in both Iraq *and* Afghanistan, the continuing disappearance of the middle class. I don't know about you, but these are not my definitions of a successful nation. Do I think Obama has all the answers? Of course not. But at least he's willing to talk about the problem, unlike certain other people.
- Victor Ganata
It's the Alaska School for People Who Want to Learn How to Govern Good and Do Other Stuff Good Too
- Kevin Bondelli
Russell: re: Biden contradicted Obama, can I get a source?
- Victor Ganata
@Victor: Well said. I don't understand how Mccain could stand up there and tell everyone "the fundamentals of our economy are still strong". Not even the Bush administration has the audacity to say that. I want a president who will be honest about the problems we face and not underplay them to make us feel better.
- grag
Victor: quick link http://www.youtube.com/watch... Biden talking about *not* supporting clean coal, not supporting coal at all in American. Contradicts what Obama has publicly been saying for a while.

Newspond is the ultimate hub for the latest tech, science, and gaming news. I still think that Newspond has the most stunning UI for a news hub site.
- Jonathan Kong
from Bookmarklet
Remember seeing this site on Techcrunch awhile back. It has a great UI and obviously someone put a ton of work into it.. but somethings not working. Look at their traffic: http://siteanalytics.compete.com/newspon... If I were them I'd consider shifting my focus to a specific niche, such as gaming. Or possibly open up the platform so others could create their own news aggregators. Their technology seems to be pretty good.
- grag
@Gabe Ragland I concurred. The site is really stunning looking and the self-run technology is interesting but because of the latter, it lacks the social element. It's probably the social element that will drive and increase traffic. Users will like to have some control in news they submit but newspond is somewhat mechanical and some might say 'cold'.
- Jonathan Kong
@Jonathan yeah, i think the design could work really well for more vibrant media like images and videos.. but it just overpowers plain text and makes it hard to focus on the actual content.
- grag
I like the design, too, but I think it is also the problem: I can see only 3-4 headings on the frontpage while I'd like to see much more at a glance (like at TechMeme). -> vertical layout should be more compact to fit more items.
- Jemm
You guys are funny! OK this is easy - those 2 pics have NOTHING in common! ha, ha! I just "faved" them back to back...thus the feed generated this output together.. elephant one is really cute!!!

it has seemed quieter lately Zee... the beginning of the week was impacted by the confessions room... I think the weekend is impacted by foodball now.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
yeah, the friendfeed "passionates" are engrossed in the confessions room - it's a shame because it doesn't he;p with keeping new users on here. I'm a little concerned about the lack of new passionate users to be honest - there doesn't seem to be all that much.
- Zee.
Wait till Tuesday Zee, I think it will pick up. Agreed the Confessions room is a user sink though
- Mo Kargas
I hope so Mo, because if we're not careful this place could quite easily die down and back into what everyone thought it just was originally - an aggregator
- Zee.
There could be a lot new users and discussions happening on friendfeed right now, but just amongst groups of friends (not in rooms). I'd imagine most users aren't that interested in interacting with strangers or meeting new people.. so that may be why things seem slow..
- grag
if not in rooms & not in the main feed area, where are these discussions happening Gabe?
- Zee.
I would posted more tonight but I've been engrossed in my iPod, watching videos.
- Colide81 (James)

You know what it is -- Twitter has gotten healthy, and people trust it again. At least that's what it is for me.

Zee :) well not so for me at least. Had few really long political and science-related discussions yesterday and had been posting bunch of stuff on FF days before. Didnt have time to even properly check the Confessions room.
- Hayk H.
it's a strong possibility Dave no doubt and as much as I love it - I still feel it's leagues behind friendfeed in terms of organization, community & discussion...but heck, that's a different discussion altogether! :)

Hayk, hmmm seems like it's not just me that feels this way though
- Zee.
Nope definitely not just you Zee. I thought it was because of the weekend & everything. Hope it picks up tonight :-)
- embee
weekend. Particularly around this time, very quiet
- Duncan Riley
It is rather ironic and telling sign that FF is quite considering what happens in the financial world. Leman goes Chapter 11, Merryl Lynch is being bought by Bank of America and AIG is facing huge problems.. WS has never been in such a turmoil since the end of Great Depression.

From the blog: "We moved the sidebar to the left-hand side to make navigation easier for those with wide screens." But having a wide-screen actually makes the right-hand sidebar less obtrusive. And distance of mouse-movement is not a serious argument.
- Christopher Galtenberg
errr ... I have a wide screen ... two of them
- Deepak Singh
Yeah, I liked the bar on the right side better. Also miss the info about rooms (new posts/comments).
- grag
Whoa, when did that happen. Agree: Lame-O. Why change that but they haven't changed the bold black fiasco yet?
- Laura Norvig
sucks. need to change all room names to something shorter
- Noah David Simon
This is a terrible change, particularly in how rooms are handled.
- Neil Saunders
yep -- I like the sidebar on the right better too and agree with nav vs. filter argument. Aesthetically, sidebar on the right helps keep focus on the feed.
- Marko Bon
after some more usage HATE the left sidebar.
- Deepak Singh
The sidebar must NOT remain on the left side. English is read from left to right, and making users visually filter out auxiliary information to get to the main content is a bad design decision. And in terms of design creativity, the design of the sidebar is several steps back. In fact, not to harp on pessimistically, the new beta design is so much worse than the old beta design (which was pretty near perfect) it renders the web interface of FF unusable for me.
- Gregory Pittman
These responses are a measure of how good FF design *usually* is. I follow the feedback rooms and haven't seen any complaint about the right sidebar - certainly way less than the left. It's enough to make me drop the beta, for now.
- Neil Saunders
the only reason I aint sayin' I hate it is because I expect em to move it back to it's happy place on the right any minute now.
- Marko Bon
Well I'll be the odd one in the bunch, I like it on the left side - so far anyway.
- ChaCha Fance
best would be for us to pick an option, but why can't they make the left work like the right?
