When I first came on to ff today, this is what I saw at the top of the feed. As I leave, it is at the top again. Thus, I both start and end the day smiling.

It looks just like Derrick is about to say "Goo goo ga ga"

I'm just gonna go ahead and let this be my embarrassing photo meme entry.
- Derrick
OMG. This actually ended up in my dream last night.
- Victor Ganata
Okay, this is weird...I'm listening to Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" on last.fm and the alien is throbbing in precise time with the beat.

gonna withdraw her from the old school at lunch so she gets some closure and then do the transfer paperwork and pay the fee at the new school after.
- Joe "Bad Guts" Silence
anticipating some serious waterworks from her when we're leaving her old school. we did tell her we were going to try to get her in to this other school and why, so this won't be a surprise. still, the reality of it will likely be shock enough. feeling like both a good parent and a cruel one right now.
- Joe "Bad Guts" Silence
we wanted to do this early on in her time at school, rather than in first or second grade. we tried to get her a transfer to a better school BEFORE the beginning of the year, but the district succeeded in screwing it all up for nearly everyone. :P
- Joe "Bad Guts" Silence
i sure got loads of stink eye from various staff at her old school when i was put on the spot (repeatedly) about why she was transferring. :P
- Joe "Bad Guts" Silence
close. my response was along the lines of "I love the teachers at your school, i think they're great. But everything else?" ...and then i gave TEH EYE ROLL.

"It’s a retread of the Vanilla Roasted Pears with Amaretto Mascarpone I made earlier in the year, but made this time with the courage of my convictions. And let me tell you, espresso cream is in no way a bad (or overpowering) thing."

I can already feel it. I'm going to need lots of water, but this should get me though my time on the desk. #bzzt#twirl
- Derrick
Uhm D... Caffeine and water?... uhm... Maybe not if you're going to be sitting for a long while. #justsayin
- MoTO #TeamMonique
I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but I can tell I'm going to drink lots of water to dilute this. The buzz I'm feeling now is enough. Unless there's something I don't know. *shrug*
- Derrick
Okaaayyyy... hope there is a rest room nearby. or in proper PeteSpeak... "I hope you can get yer arse to the toilet in time."
- MoTO #TeamMonique
This is pre-baked. Made it a couple of hours ago, and am on my way to Caitlin's for din-din. I hope it's a worthy addition to your makeshift potluck.
- Derrick
"I cut out strips and placed them on a lightly- oiled sheet, then baked them for 20 minutes. The resulting fries were crispy on the outside and super creamy in the middle. No deep-frying or pan-frying necessary. And no cheese or loads of butter required!"

Ok Derrick - give me some ideas for using polenta. We have a huge bag of it as I use it for a lemon polenta cake which is gorgeous, but I still have lots left. I'm not altogether comfortable with dollops of polenta (like mashed potato) but open to other suggestions ;-)

Oh, yum - what a great way for the leftovers to be used! (or as a primary.....)

I started HP1 last Saturday and am about to start Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 today. Hope to see the final installment maybe next week, if I can tackle all my homework.

The sad thing is, nobody gets laid either. Rowling knows squat about teen angst. *nerdrage*

@D: I bawled over it when it happened in the books even though I'd been saying it would happen since book 3. And then when I actually saw it on the screen, I was quite ok, until they all do they wand-raising, and then I was just a terrible wreck. Fuckin' a, there goes my reputation.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Anytime you have people doing something in solidarity in the face of adversity, I'm a mess. See Dead Poets society and the collective desktop standing. The swirl of emphatic music (usually strings) doesn't help either. #kleenexmoment
- Derrick
tinypants, I totally cried too. i was all "dammit, self, you knew this was going to happen! what is your problem?!" :)
- holly #ravingfangirl
OMG D, that scene makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. And Holly, that's why I actually didn't go see HBP in the theater. I knew I would end up a wreck. I mean, shit, we knew who was going to die in Order of the Phoenix and I still cried like a bitch in the middle of the theater filled with 10yr olds who WEREN'T crying, so. LOL I played it safe. With the last two films, I might be best staying home and seeing them there.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Tinypants, there were at least 2 girls sobbing last night at the midnight premier. I heard a lot of quiet sniffling, but those girls were audible for at least 30 minutes. There was also a girl outside the theater being held as she cried. I cried a bit during the movie, but I cried more on the drive home explaining things from the book to Chris.
- Heather
My roommate asked me to just tell him who dies (like me, he doesn't care about spoilers) and I couldn't do it. I kept choking up. Which is funny because I only cared about 3 of the deaths anyway (Teddy's parents and the HBP). The rest were just filler to me. But I guess it was just the buildup of it all.

Chapman Stick - New-to-me Instrument of the Day. I've probably heard it being played before without knowing what it was. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
"The Chapman Stick (the Stick) is an electric musical instrument devised by Emmett Chapman in the early 1970s. A member of the guitar family, the Chapman Stick usually has ten or twelve individually tuned strings and has been used on music recordings to play bass lines, melody lines, chords or textures. Designed as a fully polyphonic chordal instrument, it can also cover several of these musical parts simultaneously."

guy i've been in a couple of bands with started playing this around 1989. he moved on to another touch instrument called a Warr Guitar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... which is similarly organised, but can also be plucked and strummed.
- Joe "Bad Guts" Silence
btw, the Warr Guitar shown in that article stub is a VERY old version that hasn't been made since the '90s.

I've decided to be nicer to myself, SAM, so I bought a (digital) piano and have been playing around a bit. Very excited, even if I have to wait seven more days.
- Derrick
Neat. I dig it. I contemplate taking guitar lessons from time to time but just haven't. Perhaps one of these days. Wouldn't it be so cool to be able to stroll into some dark smoky NO bar and just sit down to the keys and belt out a song.
- SAM
I just played around for an hour, getting familiar with the keyboard and learning some basic chord progressions. I can't wait to start learning how to read music, etc.
