Not surprised by that - a well-developed villain is usually more interesting than a hero. In fiction, I think we like our heroes to be 2D stereotypes, without the flaws normal people have, so that we can look up to them. But a villain with redeeming features, that's interesting and captivates our attention.

I totally agree, villains will always be the stronger characters, therefore giving more impact and making more of an impression on our psyche. Add that together with redeeming features and it does capture our attention.

The evil supervillain is simply the gumption-enabled one among the bland masses. Of course we are more interesting.
