I'd really like to see Leo Laporte do a talk-soup type show, that summarizes the best of all the TWiT network shows, doing clips, with banter in between by one of the producers who's putting it together. It could be called This Week At TWiT.
I generally don't like montage-type things like that, but it actually sounds kinda like an ingenious idea. I'd watch/listen to it, and I'm sure many, many, many others would too.

Need a geeky comedian to host this. I'd suggest MDV and Glen Campbell for this. Both of them are very funny and mildly geeky enough to pass it off.

Anyone share this with Leo yet? Cause he always likes ideas about new shows. This would be easy to do to with a wrap up of shows that were done that week with a fresh face that wants to get into podcasts. Easy to do and fun. Did I mention easy to do?

Leo, if it's in the offing somewhere, you should grab the URL .tv for it. I bet it would quickly be the top search result when you type in that title!

you are right! that is what i like about this feed and it is GENUINE, but is so new that is not so fun yet, but the more we post things that wake us up to what we knew with intuition already that friend feed will be THE tool, but until then i will support it too

Jannifer, hopefully never, hopefully they decided to do a pure talent grab and allow the service to remain independent, under the FB umbrella but funded by Paul and fellow FriendFeeders, since we don't know the terms this seems unlikely.

Maybe Twitter now creates their own FriendFeed platform that sits between the current Facebook and Twitter model. I'm always looking for the "what's next" platform that gives me more control and capabilities. Any new players / platforms on the horizon?
- Dave
Personally, I'd rather Friendfeed be bought by Facebook instead of Twitter for 2 reasons: 1> The FB guys know how to run a social network *infrastructure*. Tell me how many times has FB failed this year? Now tell me how many times has Twitter failed? 2> They both start with the letter F... as in "F.U" xD

Tech discussion and feed importing on Facebook FAIL. Yet another reason why I prefer FriendFeed - I don't have to cover old ground trying to explain what the heck Twitter is to people...
This is not a fault of the technology, but your Facebook friend circle. There are tons of techies on Facebook. Regarding RSS feeds, I hope that Facebook's newest employees help to make improvements in this area.

Hint - go to your favorite FriendFeed users, see which of them are feeding a Facebook account, and add them as friends on Facebook. I've added a bunch of FriendFeeders on Facebook.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
Sure, I chose to import all my feeds there, to make it look as if I'm somewhat active, given that I hardly ever use Facebook, but I wasn't sure what I'd be up against. Oh well.
- Tyson Key
Still, there are only so many hours in the day, and I feel that FriendFeed and Twitter are more "productive" ways of utilising my time than fringe networks that I only joined, just to have some sort of presence...
- Tyson Key
FB isn't all that great, as far as serendipitous discovery of people with similar interests goes, either. Their model assumes that you've previously met someone, and have existing contact information for them, which supposedly works for the majority of their userbase, but completely breaks down for a tiny subset...
- Tyson Key
Maybe they'll eventually implement a shoddy knock-off of FOAF.
- Tyson Key
Yes, exactly, serendipity is the key. FF has it. FB and even GReader don't. They're too closed in.
- Kamilah Gill
I get a lot of, "Mike what's all this stuff you're sharing? It's seems awfully technical. You must be here all the time, because I always see new stuff from you". I've written the same reply 20 times now saying" I'm not here, in fact, I rarely spend any time here unless I get an email from one of you which needs answering. These are RSS feeds from other services I use on the web.etc, etc, etc....I can never see using Facebook like friendfeed, and I'm not talking about it's technical features either!
- Michael Fidler
Heh, I originally signed up just to use something on their Developer Wiki, and test out Facebook Connect, for what it's worth.
- Tyson Key
I don't remember why I signed up, but I'm glad I did. It reconnected me with a lot of people I had lost touch with over the years. Here's the funny part; When I realized that RSS feeds go in, but don't come back out, I used it for the longest time as a termination point for all my RSS traffic, At the time, it was becoming a mess. It solved all my problems which I was having from too...
- Michael Fidler
I don't think I've ever used the Networks feature on it, although I have also reconnected with a few people that I haven't heard from for a long time, accidentally whilst I was still at college. (i.e. I mentioned to a friend that I came across that I had an account briefly, and then added her to my contact list, only to find someone else later and add him, before I received a cascading set of friend requests over a week or so, afterwards)...
- Tyson Key
Of course, there's a lot of "artificial" noise in my feed there, since I import FriendFeed, Twitter, Identi.ca, last.fm, YouTube, and a couple of other services, have connected a fair number of applications (thankfully not of the mindless sheep-tossing and "Which "Which Quiz Are You" Quiz Are You?" variety), and sometimes join fan pages and groups, if they sound somewhat interesting (e.g. I follow some of the Symbian groups over there).
- Tyson Key
Since I have an open/accessible to "Everyone" feed, it works somewhat as an ersatz lifestreaming service, too, although I couldn't imagine myself using it as a FriendFeed replacement any time soon.
- Tyson Key
In my case, I joined FB at the request of a high school classmate who was organizing a reunion. You're right in noting that FB isn't really designed to meet new people. My Facebook friends fall into 4 groups - people I knew IRL long ago (eg the classmate), people I know from business, people I know from MySpace that have migrated to FB, & people I know from FriendFeed or blogging.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
I'm surprised by how many people in my contact list are from FriendFeed, for what it's worth. The rest seem to be from secondary school (many years ago now), and college, and there are one or two folks from FreeNode there, too. I haven't properly organised anyone into lists though, other than as a lightweight tagging system.
- Tyson Key
(I consider it to be a practical free-for-all, similar to FriendFeed, with the proviso of not befriending family members (for personal reasons) as a general rule. For what it's worth, I'm more selective with who I follow on Twitter though.

friendfeed is where I find great stories, links and conversations. Facebook is where the girls I knew in highschool talk about their sick kids. So, yeah, not really thrilled with this move, BUT it will either work or all the friendfeed users will just find another service that better meets their needs (and isn't inside a walled garden). Friendfeed users are much more likely to just leave if the service doesn't do what they want.
- John
Leo, do you understand our concerns regarding the ToS? Seriously. That's why I'm worried/concerned. This isn't a new interface. This isn't a new login procedure. This is whether I own my FriendFeed data or is it now Facebook's.
- Bwana ☠
I see this, if anything, as a good thing for FF. It wasn't mainstream enough, but that may change now.
- Mario
I agree with John Hayes' comment above. I think most FF users do not want to muddle the two spaces and will find another service that fills their needs.

I doubt they are interested in friendfeed.com. Facebook wants the realtime search technology and expertise.

i like that friend feed was more artistic, intelligent and not too main stream. If they keep the two independent, fine. If all things Friend Feed are linked to or integrated into Facebook, and I have to hang out with all those Facebook drones............well, we'll see. Also as some one who moved to Friend Feed to escape all the celebrity giberish and nonsensicle self promotion, I really hope that FB serves as a parent company and does not try to integrate them too closely
- echostreamer
the change most anticipate with Facebook buying out Friendfeed does not sound too good for the future of Friendfeed. People do not scream for nothing. Now same screamers may be proved wrong in the long term, up to Facebook to make it so.
- lelapin
Okay, okay, Leo. Be the voice of positivity. Someone should, anyway. But here's my 2 cents. I spend most of my time daily on Friendfeed. Facebook is only a small portion of what I share here. Most people fear of course that FB will absorb FF and make it more of what they are providing, rather than what we are already getting from FF. I hope you're right, as does everyone. But based on what FB has shown me, I, like the others, have little hope of this.
- Fleagle
I fear no good will come of this. But, you have to understand: I'm biased because I really, really hate F-Book.

- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Here's my biggest issue with Facebook buying FriendFeed: I use the two services very differently. I only add people I know IRL as Facebook friends, but I follow a larger variety of people on FF. If FF gets sucked into Facebook, that's going to be hard to reconcile.
+1 Matt on "it just happens". Of course, this is all speculation. Maybe FF will remain a seperate entity. I just doubt it, since Facebook tends to consume the services they acquire.

George Costanza said it best, "Worlds are colliding!" I'm already trying to wean down my FB friends to actual folks I know, went to school with, etc.... In FF, I'll add anyone that has something interesting to say or share. How to manage this going forward, I have no idea. Even worse: my Palm Pre syncs with my Facebook friends. I don't want it to pull in all of my FF contacts since I'll likely never call them.
- Kevin C. Tofel
I started added people on FB that I didn't know IRL after FB improved the privacy settings. Now I can group and choose what people see. Works pretty well, but takes a little time to setup.
- Kenley Neufeld
from iPhone
@Kevin, I'm trying to avoid words like "worse" and the like. Like Kenley says, there are flexible privacy settings on FB. And considering the good engineering choices the FF guys have made so far, hopefully they'll continue to influence FF positively as it is integrated into FB.
- Jason Huebel
Me too. There's no one on Facebook I haven't known for over a decade. I keep it very simple and clean, and don't share much at all there because I hate (no, that's not too strong a term) Facebook's model. Plus, FB's UI is not geared to handling hundreds of people effectively.
- LogEx
Yeah, I'm even worse off...I've done a lot of work to subscribe to quality people here, whereas on Facebook I subscribe to anyone who's a gamer, so it's very high noise to signal. Going to be very difficult to reconcile.
- Alex Scoble
I agree that FB isn't geared toward managing a mass audience. Frankly, I find FB's interface cumbersome. It's why I enjoy FF so much. It's simple, gets the job done and gets out of your way. Hopefully it will stay that way.
- Jason Huebel
from IM
It's too early to tell how Facebook/Friendfeed integration will work. Wouldn't worry about it now.
- Alex Knight
Jason, what I did was created a "FriendFeeders" list, and unchecked the "show in my home feed" when adding a FriendFeed friend on Facebook. That's about the simplest way to import your FF friends at the moment so that they don't mix & mingle with your "real life" friends.
- Nathan Chase
What about the cap FB has on subscriptions though? There are bloggers I'd like to follow so I can see updates, but won't be able to because they're maxed out. Guess I just have to keep an eye on Twitter and Google Reader more?
- Matthew Horton
from iPhone
Exactly! Facebook is a very personal boring service that I keep to close friends. Friendfeed is my worldwide community of interesting people
- Keith - @tsudo
Well put Jason. Only similar functionality on FB is FB Groups, but those are so SLOW moving compared to FF, more "under the boot" of the moderator, and of course are missing all of the discovery elements like Likes/Cmts pushing items back up, aggregation into notification lists (Friend Lists), asf. Well, let's pray that the good stuff from FF gets transferred over into FB Groups.
- Alex Schleber
Facebook wants to be FF - no more "privacy" -- get rid of that misconception now. Zuckerberg will rip that layer off of Facebook. FB will be open like FF, just watch - that's gotta be on the roadmap. Walled Gardens are so 1999. Everyone copy FF and move on.

"Developer Phil Crosby had this to say on Apple's approach to the software: "We were rejected for objectionable content. They provided screenshots of the words 'shit' and 'fuck' showing up in our dictionary's search results. What's interesting is that we spent a good deal of time making it so that you must type vulgar words in their entirety, and only then will we show you suggestions in the search results. For instance, if you type 'fuc', you will not see 'fuck' as a suggestion. This is in contrast to all other dictionaries we're aware of on the App Store (including Dictionary.com's application), which will show you 'fuck' in the search results for 'fuc', 'motherfucker' for 'mother', etc." In essence, you would have to already know the word in order to be able to look it up in the app -- your mind would have had to be already poisoned with the sinful idea. After three rejections, the forced removal of a number of "illicit" words (many of which are common and innocuous -- "ass" for...

This is ludicrous! Especially since there are other dictionary apps in the iTunes app store that contain these 'objectionable' words. More proof that Apple's app screening is completely arbitrary! I hope that the FCC's investigation rattles some cages over on Infinite Loop in Cupertino and forces Apple to publish and FOLLOW a reasonable set of rules for app screening and approval.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Apple have every right to decide what gets sold in their app store, even though their decision seems stupid. What we really need to for Apple to allow apps to be installed outside of the iTunes platform.
- Paul Grav
Paul, I agree that Apple is allowed to have control of what is sold in their store. The problem is that their screening process is undocumented, varies from day to day and is completely arbitrary. Presently the only way to install apps outside of the iTunes store is to jailbreak your phone.
- Jeff P. Henderson
I think as long as the only way to legitimate way to install apps is via the iTunes store, then as users and developers we have every right to be upset. Apple can solve it by allowing devs to host, sell and distribute their own apps. Who would care if about Apple's rejection of Google Voice if it were available directly from Google?
- Paul Grav
from IM
That is the exactly the problem, Apple is keeping the iPhone in a tightly controlled walled garden. I really doubt that Apple will completely open their phone platform unless they are forced too. They make too much money controlling what is installed on the device and who you buy it from (them). This is the reason that Flash has not been allowed to run on iPhones. In it's current configuration, Flash would allow apps to be run from web sites, which Apple does not want to let you do.
- Jeff P. Henderson
I disagree about Flash. Flash is junk and I'm completely happy for Apple to ban it. But, Adobe should be allowed to distribute Flash themselves if they want.
- Paul Grav
Paul, the problem is that many web sites post content that requires Flash to be able to view it. Adobe was already to release Flash for the iPhone, but Apple squelched it. I have heard through the grapevine that Adobe is working on a version of Flash for the iPhone that will allow you to view video, but not execute applications. If they do this, it is possible that Apple will approve it.
- Jeff P. Henderson
The trouble is that Apple would be very happy for Flash to die. Not having Flash available on the iPhone forces website owners to reconsider their use of Flash and this is exactly what Apple wants. I bet that we're more likely to see websites supporting the HTML5 video tag than we are to see a Flash video player on the iPhone.
- Paul Grav
I'm pretty sure that most web sites that use Flash will continue, regardless of what Apple does with the iPhone. iPhone's have been around long enough now that we would have seen lots of sites dump Flash by now. As far as I know this has not happened. The exception would be a site that caters to mobile users, in which case they probably are not using Flash now anyway. Apple's beef with...

Chris, really? I love It's Blitz far more than any of their previous albums. Fever to Tell is a bit too angry for me most of the time, and I've only listened to Show Your Bones a few times - never end up going back through it. But I fell in love with It's Blitz on first listen.
