“What's the recommended way to keep a directory of files in sync with S3?”
39 minutes ago - Link
I.e., I want to mirror a directory on my servers over to S3, so I can serve them using CloudFront. Any pointers? - DeWitt Clinton
I looked into a number of methods and never found something that I liked. I asked the Dropbox guys to let me use my own S3 bucket instead of requiring that I use theirs but got shot down. - Benjamin Golub

Finally got around to finishing the last couple of chapters. A nice sweeping tour of topics in CS, but man is it dated. The writing style and even the typography and cheap paper turned me off. I wouldn't recommend it unless you find it used. - DeWitt Clinton via Bookmarklet
Looking for recommendations for another CS book. I'm thinking something on relational database design - somewhere at or just below the level of the Dragon book, preferably. - DeWitt Clinton

In these Yahoo internal emails, the people are always talking about how they bleed -- it's like some kind of cult. - Paul Buchheit
Register.com reports that www.friendbleed.com is available, Paul. - Louis Gray
quick response :) a few times ago he was on the iab conferences to talk about internet advertising in recession - webosapien (Burcu Tüzün)
Paul, the bleeding thing predates Yahoo. At Apple, people would always say they bled 6 colors because of the logo. On one occasion, an executive got up in front of a group and told us he bled 5 colors. We always wondered if the missing color was red. - Chris White
Yeah @ Home Depot everyone was "bleeding orange" or had "orange blood". - Erica Baker
Well, I wonder what the market thinks of...oh, wait, YHOO is up 12% this morning.... - Glen Campbell

It is not about whether you like him... it is about whether he was the best CEO for them at this time or not. He was not, and he is lucky to not be sued by shareholders for this level of poor management - Ian D. Nock via twhirl

I'm sure this not so subtle critique of friendfeed may have something to do with Mashable being totally Ping.fm whores such that as just being a Blog they're actually promoted as a service; Ohhhh and that the 2nd Annual Web Awards are coming up & I'm sure they're efforts to solicit votes has nothing to do with the critique either...hmmmmmmmmm Ping this! - sofarsoshawn

CEO of Zuosa, Alex Mou, a Chinese Twitter Clone. - Robert Scoble
Wow, many, if not most, popular Web 2.0 apps are cloned by the Chinese. And they're bringing them online fast. - imabonehead
ima: yeah, and most have been cloned multiple times. Now, though, the services are innovating on their own and adding some really unique things. Micropayments, for instance, are way ahead here in China vs. the US. - Fast Company
Interesting and yet kinda scary. US tech companies definitely need to be aware, if they're not already. As for me, I probably should move to China, the land of my ancestors, to start a Web 2.0 startup. :P - imabonehead
interesting, though its surprising something like it would be around in China with the Chinese government's censorship, namely seeing as how ours has labeled twitter as a potential terrorist tool, it'd seem they would be hesitate - BCK
BCK: Interesting to me is that neither China nor Iran have blocked FriendFeed. Both block my blog. I bet both services will get blocked eventually. FriendFeed is VERY fast in China, though, while Facebook is dreadfully slow. - Robert Scoble
it's a pure surprise to see Robert Scoble in Guangzhou(Canton). What a pleasure to talk to Robert about the Chinese Twitter: www.zuosa.com - Alex Mou
I guess the chinese government doesn't have any early adopters on the staff :P - BCK
Alex; Zuosa looks great, though I obviously can't read any of it - BCK
@bck their net police force is more advanced than many people think. - Alex Mou

Contradiction
4 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
Not so much a contradiction actually. There is no proof in this picture that this person is of Islamic faith and even if so, it would be a personal opinion. Nowhere in Islamic text does it say that you should behead people for thinking that Islam is violent. Fact: Islam is NOT a violent religion. - mojay

This goes with the other thread about whether decapitated heads are conscious or not. It's a decapitation mashup! :-) http://bit.ly/eMB1 - Dave Winer
Wow. "Decapitation mashup" - one can only hope that this is the first (of very, very few) instance of this phrase ever being used. - Ladybug Heather
