These will hold operating systems and more soon. Check out Kingston’s 256GB USB Drive...
They already do - I know people that pass these around with entire Linux installs on them. (in much smaller space) - Jesse Stay
@Jesse do they boot off the drives? I bet Chrome will. - Steve Rubel
yes, usb bootables are already in existence/ Linux flavour only - Peter Dawson
Someone on Twitter mentioned that USB drives have a limited write lifespan - so that could be an issue I guess. - Steve Rubel
PortableApps suite has Linux and Mac OS bootables. There's alerady a Firefox Portable version. I use that stuff every day on a 2GB drive. - Steve Lynch from twhirl
@ Steve, yes I have the FF Portable from V1.0 days.. Long long time ago.. my Surf history always travelled around with me..nver left an auditable trail on a PC :)- - Peter Dawson
Whoa that 256GB USB pen drive costs $924 bucks! (I have Knoppix Linux distro on an old pen drive) - Susan Beebe
Steve, yes, they boot off the drives. It's already an option in most BIOS's - you can choose to boot from USB first. And I'll bet on Chrome booting from these, considering I believe it's Linux-based. I think I heard of Windows working on some of these as well, but don't quote me on that. - Jesse Stay
Jesse Stay - http://mojopac.com/ delivers virtualized windows on USB - Vivek Puri
Vivek - nice! I knew there was something out there. - Jesse Stay
holy crap. and to think that my packard hell computer from 1996 had a 2 Gb hard drive and 4 megs of RAM.....sheesh.... - Morgan Haley
Vivek have you used Mojopac? How's the speed? - Steve Rubel from email
checkout deadswap - Billy Warhol

Steve Rubel - I didn't use Mojopac for a long time. But for the time i used, it was pretty good. You should get the pro version. AFAIK, founders are from msft - Vivek Puri

Short URLs shared on Friendfeed now reveal the re-direct if you hover over them.
tinyurls.png
great find Steve - btw, would it be ok for to drop you an email? Just a short one don't worry - Zee.
Like this. +5 more points for FF. - Amani
Steve, I love that I made a cameo in your post. I only wish my short URL was more inspired. - Scott Gatz
Finally! Yay! Wish Twitter had this a long time ago. That's the reason I never use full links that get converted. I change the www. to w3 .website.com and that way everyone can see the full link still and copy and paste it if they want to view the site. I got annoyed at clicking on duplicate TinyURLs. - Adam
@Adam, Just try out the grease monkey script, it will let you see all the tiny url's. http://tinyurl.com/5wduxf - Dennis Goedegebuure
Nice feature add. Keep them coming! - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Nice feature enhancement!! - Susan Beebe
What Mohomed=genieyclo said! Thanks, FF crew. :-) - Lisa L. Seifert
One small nit. Does not work in comments. Try this link - http://tinyurl.com/5wduxf - Atul Arora
@Atul Arora Right! First thing I noticed. I also wonder with how many shortening services does it work with... - Nikos Anagnostou
This is awesome. Hopefully this can be added to twhirl too - Guy
This should be definitely exported via API - Alex Kapranoff
Finally! - Mr. Gunn
This is an awesome feature! - Nicholas James
Lovely! - Mitchell Tsai
I use the greasemonkey script tinyurl-ru at http://kapranoff.ru/friendf... but it only covers tinyurl.com and tinyurl.ru | Maybe we should do a community project that keeps updating that script with all those url-shorteners out there. | Alex, are you game? - ĎÚβĨŐÚŚ Dod
Is this a feature that friendfeed removed? Because it's not working in Chrome. - James Poling
I don't see any short URL's in FriendFeed anymore. all are automatically expanded. - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Robert Scoble
What service is growing faster than Twitter but that most Americans have never heard of? Answer here:
I met the CEO this week and he was being praised by many at the Charles River Ventures Summit. - Robert Scoble
Friendfeed - Varun Mahajan
And, no, I am not talking about friendfeed. - Robert Scoble
"My favorite underhyped company is GupShup, which stands for "chit chat" in India. They got to 20 million users in two years. Twitter took more time to reach that many users" ? - Edwin Khodabakchian
redhat - ;) - LPH™ and his dog P™
Zimbio? - Paul Holmes

zimbo has huge growth, we "study" them a lot :) - sean percival
Edwin: bing! - Robert Scoble
orkut :P - Dave Mora
Installation of Purell dispensers in all public spaces. - Gregg Scott
On the Edwin note, what's that relative percentage wise penetration in the India market vs. Twitter in the USA? - Chris
Geocities? :-P - Amit Morson
GupShup has revenues too. 20 million people in India are getting a cell phone every month which shows why they are able to grow so fast. - Robert Scoble
Was GupShup the service you were talking about? - Frankie Warren
Zousa.com has something like 34 Million Users. - Brandon Wirtz
You could probably start a Spanish twitter tomorrow and from a growth rate destroy the competition. - Brandon Wirtz
Is there revenue a cut of the SMS or do they sell virtual goods? - Edwin Khodabakchian
Any Second Language clone will reach market saturation faster than the original. - Brandon Wirtz
It's either GupShup, or that one for kids that is so huge...? - Elizabeth Good
Robert: What is their revenue model? - Joe Lima
(The realtime aspect of friendfeed is really interesting) - Edwin Khodabakchian
FriendFeed looks alot nicer than the last time I was here. - Paul Holmes
GupShup Spams SMS users with ads as a revenue model - Brandon Wirtz
Most US Users would quit if Twitter used that model - Brandon Wirtz
I bet boardgamegeek.com is growing fast from a relative perspective. It is the definitive source of information for the boardgame hobby community. - Peter Kelley
Trust me, even Indians havent heared of it much, including me. Came to know it from Robert's post only. - Roshan Ramachandran
BoardgameGeek.com hasn't grown in 6 months, it gets 80% of its traffic from Ad clicks, and only does about 10k uniques a day - Brandon Wirtz
Okay Robert, we want to know...it's bedtime here in CA (you should know!) ;-) - Elizabeth Good
he answered the question already Elizabeth. Look up. - geoff hines
Hmm.....? sorry.... - Elizabeth Good
Ok, I'm out. Indian Clone of Twitter that uses phone spam as a revenue model is far from exciting. - Brandon Wirtz
Oh, I see, it was "bing" lol. Missed that! G'night all. - Elizabeth Good
What service are you talking about? - Pedro Remedios
Pedro: GupShup in India. Got to 20 million users in two years. Took Twitter about three years to get to that level. - Robert Scoble
Brandon: you care to tell us how you know this information? - Peter Kelley
Brandon knows the Internet intimately. He understands where traffic comes frommore than anyone I have met. - Robert Scoble
You ask me that same thing again after a year or two and my answer would be http://www.blogpandit.com ..... my blog ;) - Amey Palyekar
Fitness Centers! - Chris Poulson
Interesting to know the info then. I haven't heard Derk Solko or Scott Alden disclose any of it before - Peter Kelley
Laconi.ca methinks - Dermot G
Facebook. No other service is growing faster. - Garin Kilpatrick
Interesting that only 2 of the comments appear to be from women Amey and Elizabeth). Guess we actually just talk to one another in person and don't need artificial tools to connect? - sherry reynolds
Garin~ I think people have heard of Facebook...if not where have they been the past year or two.. - James Armfield
love the mix of spam, txt spk & cricket updates on the featured list http://www.smsgupshup.com/ - Ian Crocombe
WashroomSeXXX - Billy Warhol
Garin: I don't think Facebook got to 20 million users in less than two years. In fact, I'm pretty sure that they didn't. - Robert Scoble
have heard good things about gupshup's scaling and relative lack of fail-whales - Mike Chelen
SmsGupShup.com could hit 20 million users with SMS because there are 400 million cell phone subscribers in India, versus only 38 million people there with access to a computer (not to be confused with computer owners). These statistics are from a statement Vickrum Crishna made in an interview on Dawn TV last week. However, because GupShup use depends on email access, I’m skeptical of their figure of 20 million users now. Burners = dupes. Unrelated: what are Ning's numbers globally? - A Mitchell

do people still use business cards? - Bob Sonin
yes, they do - Roberto Bonini
so steve - when can i buy you breakfast to get your feedback on my business card startup? - Allen Stern
This looks awesome. - Bill Romanos
Does this work well with the native lens? A cursory check mentions that an additional lens for the iPhone is recommended . . . - Peter Ghosh
Nice call Ghosh. There is a special note: "Attention: The best results when scanning business cards are achieved using an additional lens for the iPhone camera. We recommend the close-up lens of the Clarifi-case, made by Griffin Technology." - coldbrew
I have one of the Clarifi-cases. Thumbs up on it. - Rex Hammock
Griffin must buy this software and bundle with Clarifi-case! - Burak "cyrus" Bayburtlu
Hammock, I have a 1st gen iPhone, which is a slightly different form factor though I'm unsure if the camera is in the same place. Do you know if this would cause problems? - coldbrew

The Bulb-Sound-Speaker concept allows you to transform every lamp into a speaker. To do so, just unscrew the bulb lamp and turn your Ipod on: it will remotely send music to the speaker inside the bulb thanks to the built in Bluetooth transmitter. - Nir Ben Yona
Eh? And how exactly does the speaker get power, if it's disconnected from it's sole electricity source? Or does it have batteries inside? - Tyson Key
Seems much closer to production than this http://friendfeed.com/e... - Toby Graham
Does this thing produce light, too? - Tyson Key
And how many hours are they expected to last? changing a bulb just got complicated ! :D - Juan Pablo González
@Tyson, what do you mean "how does it get power"? Every bulb is connected to electricity source. It suppose to produce light and sound at the same time. @Toby, cool...so i guess we're close to have this product, if 2 different sources introduce the same concept. @Juan, I hope as long as possible. Changing a bulb might be more complicated - indeed. - Nir Ben Yona
@Nir Ben Yona - It sounded like a dumb question, although it does explicitly say "...just unscrew the bulb lamp...", which at least to me, implies that you have to remove it from the fitting, and therefore lose it's electrical power supply. - Tyson Key

Web advertising is broken - http://www.winextra.com/index...
you-cannot-afford-the-dog
I have had the same problems. Getting companies to see the value here is difficult. Seagate saw it and I will forever be grateful. The way I look at it is like the Demo Conference. They get 1,500 people to pay more than $1,000 each. Then they get 60 companies to pay $18,000 each to speak to that audience. One problem is many bloggers are willing to sell ads for $500. Makes making a case pretty difficult indeed. - Robert Scoble
This year is going to be difficult for everyone except Leo Laporte. He just closed a nice ad deal. - Robert Scoble
I fail. I didn't notice there was a blog post attached to it. Just the cat - Tyler (Chacha)
@Robert I realize that you can't probably say much but I have wonder what with the CEO out of the picture how that is going to affect your sponsorship deal with Seagate .. as well how easy will it be for even someone of your stature to find a replacement sponsor. .. just curious as well if you agree with my basic supposition that ad networks and companies are going to have to seriously reconsider how they move forward ad wise and if we could see more sponsorship type deals for smaller blogs? - Steven Hodson
@Chacha102 well you can always rectify that failure :) - Steven Hodson
I've already read it. Your in my Google Reader :) - Tyler (Chacha)
One of the side results of this issue is that those who have the revenue today will get increasingly aggressive to protect and expand their space, so if you're in any way threatening to their income, expect blood. Should be fun to watch unless you're caught in the crosshairs. - Louis Gray
Oh and Robert - for $500 per month I'd happily give the prime spot on WinExtra to a company that I felt would be a good fit with WinExtra and it's readers but both you and I know that any number of the top 100 would see that offer before I will :) - Steven Hodson
Steven: I am sponsored through March. Like I said this year is a tough one to be in the media business. Luckily Fast Company has a brand big advertisers know and love. It is pretty difficult for everyone big and small this year. I wish I had better news. It is a buyer's market right now and advertisers will go to those who have the biggest and most engaged audiences. You should watch the video I did with Josh Reynolds, though, for some hope at http://www.fastcompany.tv (VP at big PR firm - they influence). - Robert Scoble
Google Adsense that knows ad loyalty readers and display accordingly? - Lasker
Here are some of my opinions on the digital marketing sphere: Many companies set aside 10% of their turnover for marketing communications. Of that 10%, 90% is spent on media and 10% goes to creative work. So if you are in the media buying you just make 2.5% of the 9% spent on media and you end up addressing .2% or .3% of every marketing dollar spent, while your creative ad agency... more... - Asfaq

Chacha: because he wouldn't stand still and that's the way I shot it with my iPhone. Sort of eye catching, though. - Robert Scoble
Like Gatorade's "G" commercials today, he has to make us work to figure out what the hell the marketing message is about. - James D Kirk
Robert has a website? - WorldofHiglet
But...how long will it take for Milan's pa to stop reading FF and see the comment? ;) - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Yep, made me look at it :) - Tyler (Chacha) from IM
You have no idea how close this is to my; lightbulb, $$, disengorge the corrupt medical complex moment, that concept is for me. And you're probably tired of advice, but Robert, let him fall asleep on you as long as he still fits. Those days are irretrievable, and the peak of life :) - Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
WorldofHeight... Where have you been? - Tyler (Chacha) from IM
WorldofHiglet: he'll be on friendfeed soon enough. He already knows how the iPhone works. :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert, I'm sure you have made him a twitter account already. - Steven (optionshiftk)
Shouldn't Milan have to create his own accounts? No spoon-feeding! - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Milian will need to come up with his name, I doubt Milianizer is going to work.... - Tyler (Chacha) from IM
steve: the first thing Milan did was tweet: http://scobleizer.com/2007... - Robert Scoble
LOL at MiniMage. Kids take to iPhones quick. My daughter is 5 and emailing her mom stuff from within apps and finding new features in apps ... - Patrick Jordan
Well it's inevitable: all my kids could work the TV/DVD and even *program* them way before my mum could. And Chacha: I had heard that Robert blogged. I just wish he would try Twitter or one of the other social thingies that TechCrunch are always going on about...who knows what he could achieve then....? - WorldofHiglet
I like you ... your really sarcastic...*follow* - Tyler (Chacha)
Wow! That's great. I love the way these new technologies are allowing us to record and remember such special moments in so many different ways - Steven (optionshiftk)
steve: yeah, milan's first cry still gets to me. It's wacky how his first moments in life are captured for Google. :-) - Robert Scoble
"for" Google, or "in"? Cause if it is for Google, my next question is whether or not Milan is an offering to Almighty Google? ;) - James D Kirk
LOL hopefully he'll never be lost, but how cute if he is! - Kat
I keep saying people underestimate kids. My cousin was a video games whiz at 3. No one sat there and repeatedly told her she would have to wait until she was older to save the princess, so she did it multiple times. - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
James: for, in, is there any real difference? :-) - Robert Scoble
Ha. But shouldn't that be "If found ..." - Nick in Manila
Just read this - and promptly spit my coffee all over my desk. Robert you have a great looking kid! - Renee Hendricks
