@Jesse do they boot off the drives? I bet Chrome will.
- Steve Rubel
yes, usb bootables are already in existence/ Linux flavour only
- Peter Dawson
Someone on Twitter mentioned that USB drives have a limited write lifespan - so that could be an issue I guess.
- Steve Rubel
PortableApps suite has Linux and Mac OS bootables. There's alerady a Firefox Portable version. I use that stuff every day on a 2GB drive.
- Steve Lynch
from twhirl
@ Steve, yes I have the FF Portable from V1.0 days.. Long long time ago.. my Surf history always travelled around with me..nver left an auditable trail on a PC :)-
- Peter Dawson
Whoa that 256GB USB pen drive costs $924 bucks! (I have Knoppix Linux distro on an old pen drive)
- Susan Beebe
Steve, yes, they boot off the drives. It's already an option in most BIOS's - you can choose to boot from USB first. And I'll bet on Chrome booting from these, considering I believe it's Linux-based. I think I heard of Windows working on some of these as well, but don't quote me on that.
- Jesse Stay
Steve Rubel - I didn't use Mojopac for a long time. But for the time i used, it was pretty good. You should get the pro version. AFAIK, founders are from msft
- Vivek Puri
I want four of those! only then will data truly travel.
- Freddie Benjamin
My small WD passport HD holds far more than this USB stick and it is only powered by USB power also!
- Garin Kilpatrick
Steve, I love that I made a cameo in your post. I only wish my short URL was more inspired.
- Scott Gatz
Finally! Yay! Wish Twitter had this a long time ago. That's the reason I never use full links that get converted. I change the www. to w3 .website.com and that way everyone can see the full link still and copy and paste it if they want to view the site. I got annoyed at clicking on duplicate TinyURLs.
- Adam
I use the greasemonkey script tinyurl-ru at http://kapranoff.ru/friendf... but it only covers tinyurl.com and tinyurl.ru | Maybe we should do a community project that keeps updating that script with all those url-shorteners out there. | Alex, are you game?
- ĎÚβĨŐÚŚ Dod
Is this a feature that friendfeed removed? Because it's not working in Chrome.
- James Poling
I don't see any short URL's in FriendFeed anymore. all are automatically expanded.
- Rah-PM 2012
And, no, I am not talking about friendfeed.
- Robert Scoble
"My favorite underhyped company is GupShup, which stands for "chit chat" in India. They got to 20 million users in two years. Twitter took more time to reach that many users" ?
- Edwin Khodabakchian
GupShup has revenues too. 20 million people in India are getting a cell phone every month which shows why they are able to grow so fast.
- Robert Scoble
Was GupShup the service you were talking about?
- Frankie Warren
Zousa.com has something like 34 Million Users.
- Brandon Wirtz
You could probably start a Spanish twitter tomorrow and from a growth rate destroy the competition.
- Brandon Wirtz
Is there revenue a cut of the SMS or do they sell virtual goods?
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Any Second Language clone will reach market saturation faster than the original.
- Brandon Wirtz
It's either GupShup, or that one for kids that is so huge...?
- Elizabeth Good
(The realtime aspect of friendfeed is really interesting)
- Edwin Khodabakchian
FriendFeed looks alot nicer than the last time I was here.
- Paul Holmes
GupShup Spams SMS users with ads as a revenue model
- Brandon Wirtz
Most US Users would quit if Twitter used that model
- Brandon Wirtz
I bet boardgamegeek.com is growing fast from a relative perspective. It is the definitive source of information for the boardgame hobby community.
- Peter Kelley
Trust me, even Indians havent heared of it much, including me. Came to know it from Robert's post only.
- Roshan Ramachandran
BoardgameGeek.com hasn't grown in 6 months, it gets 80% of its traffic from Ad clicks, and only does about 10k uniques a day
- Brandon Wirtz
Okay Robert, we want to know...it's bedtime here in CA (you should know!) ;-)
- Elizabeth Good
he answered the question already Elizabeth. Look up.
- geoff hines
Facebook. No other service is growing faster.
- Garin Kilpatrick
Interesting that only 2 of the comments appear to be from women Amey and Elizabeth). Guess we actually just talk to one another in person and don't need artificial tools to connect?
- sherry reynolds
Garin~ I think people have heard of Facebook...if not where have they been the past year or two..
- James Armfield
Garin: I don't think Facebook got to 20 million users in less than two years. In fact, I'm pretty sure that they didn't.
- Robert Scoble
have heard good things about gupshup's scaling and relative lack of fail-whales
- Mike Chelen
SmsGupShup.com could hit 20 million users with SMS because there are 400 million cell phone subscribers in India, versus only 38 million people there with access to a computer (not to be confused with computer owners). These statistics are from a statement Vickrum Crishna made in an interview on Dawn TV last week. However, because GupShup use depends on email access, I’m skeptical of their figure of 20 million users now. Burners = dupes. Unrelated: what are Ning's numbers globally?

Does this work well with the native lens? A cursory check mentions that an additional lens for the iPhone is recommended . . .
- Peter Ghosh
Nice call Ghosh. There is a special note: "Attention: The best results when scanning business cards are achieved using an additional lens for the iPhone camera. We recommend the close-up lens of the Clarifi-case, made by Griffin Technology."
- coldbrew
Hammock, I have a 1st gen iPhone, which is a slightly different form factor though I'm unsure if the camera is in the same place. Do you know if this would cause problems?
- coldbrew
The Bulb-Sound-Speaker concept allows you to transform every lamp into a speaker. To do so, just unscrew the bulb lamp and turn your Ipod on: it will remotely send music to the speaker inside the bulb thanks to the built in Bluetooth transmitter.
- Nir Ben Yona
And how many hours are they expected to last? changing a bulb just got complicated ! :D
- Juan Pablo González
@Tyson, what do you mean "how does it get power"? Every bulb is connected to electricity source. It suppose to produce light and sound at the same time. @Toby, cool...so i guess we're close to have this product, if 2 different sources introduce the same concept. @Juan, I hope as long as possible. Changing a bulb might be more complicated - indeed.
- Nir Ben Yona
@Nir Ben Yona - It sounded like a dumb question, although it does explicitly say "...just unscrew the bulb lamp...", which at least to me, implies that you have to remove it from the fitting, and therefore lose it's electrical power supply.
- Tyson Key
You have no idea how close this is to my; lightbulb, $$, disengorge the corrupt medical complex moment, that concept is for me. And you're probably tired of advice, but Robert, let him fall asleep on you as long as he still fits. Those days are irretrievable, and the peak of life :)
- Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
LOL at MiniMage. Kids take to iPhones quick. My daughter is 5 and emailing her mom stuff from within apps and finding new features in apps ...
- Patrick Jordan
Well it's inevitable: all my kids could work the TV/DVD and even *program* them way before my mum could. And Chacha: I had heard that Robert blogged. I just wish he would try Twitter or one of the other social thingies that TechCrunch are always going on about...who knows what he could achieve then....?
- WoH: Minding her Steves
I like you ... your really sarcastic...*follow*
- Tyler (Chacha)
Wow! That's great. I love the way these new technologies are allowing us to record and remember such special moments in so many different ways
- Steven (optionshiftk)
steve: yeah, milan's first cry still gets to me. It's wacky how his first moments in life are captured for Google. :-)
- Robert Scoble
"for" Google, or "in"? Cause if it is for Google, my next question is whether or not Milan is an offering to Almighty Google? ;)
- James D Kirk
LOL hopefully he'll never be lost, but how cute if he is!
- Kat
I keep saying people underestimate kids. My cousin was a video games whiz at 3. No one sat there and repeatedly told her she would have to wait until she was older to save the princess, so she did it multiple times.
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
James: for, in, is there any real difference? :-)
- Robert Scoble
Ha. But shouldn't that be "If found ..."
- Nick in Manila
Just read this - and promptly spit my coffee all over my desk. Robert you have a great looking kid!
- Renee Hendricks
lol :) maybe you should build a website for lost children and give them subdomains
- İ. Emre Kutlu
Aww, that's just too cute! Lost a kid? First place to check would be your blog's comments..
- deepikaur
Guess it's time for the Candians to pull out the couch for Scoble!! I think you should give it a chance before fleeing the country the day after election.
- Les Zaldor
the real question is: if McCain wins, will you be allowed to get back to the US again? :)
- dario
Ok, this was actually kinda clever. I like. :)
- Rah-PM 2012
If McCain wins, I'm leaving the country! In the MORNING, TOO!!! :-) Go McCain! Down with Rev Wright's puppet
- Rocky Barbanica
Dork! Careful, they might through you in a state run start up over there ;)
- jamesdkirk
sailing to international waters then turning right around, nice.
- adolfo foronda
you wont make your flight. Incendiary items are not allowed.
- Sean Oliver
Leaving not a problem...try getting back in :)
- John Nogrady
funny, I'm planning on leaving if Obama loses!
- Luis Valdes
is this how scoble creates traffic... makes an arbitrary statement without cause or reason... then he reads all of these comments and feels better about his day? I really don't get it.
- Caleb Cherry
really? I srsly thought you were pro-Obama, technology, pro-Net Neutrality, and civil rights. In any case, I respect your choice, just honor it.
- Joe Manna
@Caleb, it's a soc-web experiment demonstrating how people don't bother to read comments
- Christopher Galtenberg
Just in case you were serious :) I sympathize...this election is a loser no matter who wins.
- Chris Rossini
It is funny how many thought this was an anti-Obama post. It is not. Also Rocky bet me $100 that McCain will win. I will collect that in the morning too. I love taking money from Republicans! :-)
- Robert Scoble
That's because you're traveling to China in the morning
- Jesse Stay
what you're not saying is if you'll come back from China if McCain wins!
- Jorge Escobar
Interesting to see who follows you closely enough to know about the China trip and who doesn't. Clever post Robert! :) Enjoy the trip... looking forward to hearing about it.
- Lucretia Pruitt
If McCain wins, were closing the border here in Canada.
- Gene Moreau
At least getting back into the country will be a breeze! Obama will remove all border restrictions! :)

Don't mess with Darth Vader. He'll getcha.
- Bryan Clark
Must say I'm slightly disappointed with his choice of transport. It might be more eco-friendly than a big ole hog, but since when did that matter to Vader?
- WoH: Minding her Steves
LOL - eco friendly vader transport vehicle FTW!
- Susan Beebe
Darth Vader started going green and saving fuel money after losing the Death Star.
- imabonehead
I would LOVE to have his force powers when the traffic in front of me is being bad. A flick of the finger and the lane opens up. YES!
