my mom taught me this long ago when she had a Needlepoint store on the East side of Cleveland. A competing store was on the West side. Rather than worrying about competition they would work together to share the costs and profits from, "trunk shows" or sell each other inventory if the other store had something a customer needed that wasn't in stock. It worked out well for both of them. Since then I've made many friends who do Web work. We have lunch, we share ideas, and when it makes sense we can work together. It's a win-win.

Great reasons why companies should at a minimum be using social media to monitor brand/product mentions. A little listening could have prompted some quick responses that would have led to great PR with more reach and less cost than advertising.

It's interesting to watch the world through someone else's eyes. And while we can't always do this with our Web sites and other projects, I think this is a good reminder that we should (if nothing else) try to image our Web sites, blogs, Tweets, etc. through the eyes of our visitors. Are they seeing what we're seeing? How does their perspective change things? Naturally we can do this with user testing, but when budgets are tight, perhaps just a little imagination can help us begin to see from their point of view.

G-captain shares pictures and information about this incredible sail boat concept that would allow one to position the sails in previously unimagined ways. Very cool.

I don't think I've ever seen someone cram so much nonscience babble into 10 minutes. She even tries to second guess Einstein. Freaky. Thankfully the post also includes the scientifically accurate lecture from Prof. Krauss as a remedy to keep your brain from exploding.

Terry Border border makes photographic cartoons from bits of objects and small wire, illustrating everything from Zombie Peanuts and Murderous Candy Corn to a tube of dramamine feeling sick. Amusing imagery.

Thankfully the other Heidi Cools that I've found online seem to be in Belgium, and if Babelfish Dutch/English translator is correct, they're upstanding citizens...I believe one does environmental work.

Transparency is a dirty word, often wielded by people who have something to hide. Or at least that's the way I often see it used. It's right up there with "social media expert" as a term that should be avoided. Yet the meaning behind it is quite reasonable. Amber gives us a good overview of what it really should be.

Interesting early versions of social media, though I bet one could find even earlier examples. I'm also surprised they didn't spend more time on Usenet particularly in terms of pre-Web usage. I was dialing into things like the Cleveland Freenet and telneting to other places to use Usenet before I had an ISP.

This is one of the most in-depth posts I've seen about blog commenting strategies. Gloson has taken note of what makes certain comments stand out then translated his observations into very clear and easy to apply tips. Great read.

Many change their copyright dates to show that a site is current, but that's not it's proper use. This is a good reminder that the copyright should show the earliest date of creation rather than the latest.
