"Li Wei, a contemporary artist from Beijing China, has been taking self portraits to new heights… literally! His gravity defying photos have been mesmerizing the world, capturing impossible looking moments of apparent extreme danger. You’ll find Wei hanging on in dangerous situations, or crashing head on into sidewalks and cars. Li Wei states that these images are not computer montages and that he works with the help of props such as mirrors, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics. He then removes the wires and scaffolding with Photoshop to create these seemingly impossible photos. “My artistic language is universal and deals with themes about contemporary politics and society using symbols understood by everyone in every part of the world. I am fascinated by the unstable and dangerous sides of art…” Here’s a collection of some of Wei’s most outstanding photos, in a unique combination of artistry and acrobatics that are sure to make you take a second look."

I've been playing around with Flickr's new people tags for the past hour or so. I like them *a lot*. The only thing is it's that much more metadata to lose when they nuke your account without warning.
I've decided I want to have fun with the people tags. I want to find as many pictures of Gary Coleman that I can, and people tag them as me.
- Adam Harrison
That sounds like a good strategy for you Adam. You do actually look like him a little bit.
- Thomas Hawk
BTW, is someone people tags an image with your name, it shows up on your recent activity, but it breaks muting, so you can't get it out of your recent activity. Freakin' annoying.
- Adam Harrison
Ah that stinks. I liked the mute feature! I don't need to know who won what sparkly gif award. So I'm gonna hafta deal with people tagging the hawk til doomsday huh?
- Ryan MacLean
i think this feature is lame - lame like mo on crytstal meth trapped in john travolta's bubble-bot bubble. thats what i think
- Cu12-13V(As,Sb,Sn,Ge)3S16
Thomas, looking at the option it does allow you to enter an email address in the text field, however I guess this would depend on the email address that the user has linked to their account... which also begs the question, does it respect the 'don't display my email address' privacy, I assume it would.
- Travis Koger
it seems like you can add an email address to send them an email, I'm not sure it will query their database though to simply find a match if they are already on Flickr but you just can't find them. That would seem better to me.
- Thomas Hawk
that's a good app plugin BTW. Digitalrhino turned me on to it

"Google CEO Eric Schmidt has resigned from Apple’s Board of Directors. Given the conflicts of interest, this is not unexpected — Schmidt had already recused himself from any iPhone discussion and now that Google is getting into the OS business, I guess that would leave Schmidt free to talk about hardware. Apple CEO Steve Jobs issued a statement confirming Schmidt’s departure as well as offering praise for Schmidt’s past work on the Board: “Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful,” Jobs said. “Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s board.”"

in Friendfeed if you check the twitter box, now they display the number of characters you wrote. smart, but they do not include the potential space left from shrunk URLs
As far as I know, it isn't necessary since Friendfeed automatically shorten URLs with ff.im. It does the job by itself, no third party needed.
- Jérôme Flipo
Most people think Friendfeed can't match the power of the Twitter ecoystem but native Friendfeed does everything. No need to look for workaround, for photo services, applications to have friends' lists, no need for friends discovery (FF has great recommendations)...

When did the number of Twitter followers mean anything?
- Asgeir
Auto Follow & the Follow Me Follow You Back etiquette are the main sources of the problem. But no doubt the "size matters" movement will remain on twitter and few will make as bold a move as John Reese and Mike Filsaime (see http://stopautofollow.com for info) recently. Lets just hope the msg spreads - auto following will break your twitter experience.
- imrat
Have been guilty of using autofollow but not for my account though. It is just necessary since there are those out there who believe that # of followers = authority.
- Likke
Like it or not, it's still impressive to most people on Twitter. Only the most experienced get that it's at least misleading. Scoble, if it's so meaningless, why did you go out of your way to announce when you were approaching 100,000 followers? There's some meaning number of followers, just not as much as it seems on the surface.
- Chris Spizzirri
The bots do alter the numbers. More important then follower numbers is the more people who follow you that engage in meaningful conversation.
- Rob Cairns
I've been using Twitter for over a year and have found 2 things hold true. 1) The same people who say follower numbers mean nothing to them, waste half their life on fridays with that stupid #followfriday crap. 2) Twitter numbers DO impress most Twitter users as they are seen as a measure of influence and reach. I don't even know how many subscribers I have on FriendFeed; because it's no big deal here. It's one of many reasons why I prefer FriendFeed.
- Jim Connolly
Just checked and I have one tenth the number of subscribers here, that I have followers on Twitter. This place is still more valuable to me.
- Jim Connolly
One can only imagine the sales pitch: "With more than 10,000 Twitter followers, JimSmith is a recognized social media guru. Let Jim Smith help your organization win with social media". Recently posted a thought about Twitter Ratios as a measure of value "The Twitter Ratio: Listening, Telling or Dialogue?" a wordy thought on defining your followers. http://tinyurl.com/lzv6fm
- jeff hammond
They are quite meaningless consider a good half your followers couldn't care less what you say and just want you to reciprocate. I have found this holds true very much. To Twitter, having more or less followers than someone is how you are judged and how many are set on being goal-driven to reach a certain amount of followers. And now agreeing with Jim, here on FF the number of subscribers you have doesn't really matter to most users. It is the interactions that count.
- Amir
If you can map Twitter followers to linkedin or a social network that means something to you, then you can sort out meaningful follows.
- barce
from iPhone
barce: But in many cases that is impossible because some people have thousands of followers. It is to hard to give that much attention to each one. However, I see where you are going with this and maybe in the future there will be an open service to do just that.

I'm not much older than your son, but I have a twitter. Noticeably many of my friends detest twitter and compare it to facebook status messages, therefore they are unable to understand what makes Twitter great. By the time today's teens are into things they'll look upon Twitter like we now look at IRC. I'm wondering if I even still have an IRC client on my machine....

Totally agree, Chris, but more teens are into tech than people think. Not all of us are texting to our friends about useless junk 24/7.

Adults are very lazy...140 characters is tough to power through, but doable. The only people lazier than adults? Teenagers. Why bother with Twitter when their lives revolve around Facebook and it meets all their needs?

goes back to "announce" vs. "discuss", too. Fb has nice "my friends and family" feel that Twitter and FF don't yet have.

Depends on geographic area. Here it was the Myspace revolution, then slowly became Facebook. The early adopters of Facebook jumped on the Twitter ship and now the middle stage of Facebook adopters are jumping to Twitter. Does Facebook rule supreme among my group? Yes, with myspace a close second, and twitter slowly catching up. PS, i'm 16.
- Sean Quinn
I also don't think most teenagers grasp the difference between Twitter and Facebook. My friends who are content with Facebook don't see any need for Twitter and are actually puzzled by it's intended use. Over and over again I here, "Well Facebook can do that, can't it?"
- Angus Burton
It is only 5c in Canada per text, and unlimited for 5 dollars.
- Zachary TG
Yeah phone plans in Australia are really ridiculous. There are hardly any unlimited SMS plans and the ones that are you are usually paying over $80 a month. But I digress!
- Chris Lawrence
But our data plans are outrageous. $30 for only 500MB.
- Zachary TG
My 16-year-old daughter said the same thing a few months back. But she finally relented and is on Twitter now. A few weeks ago she said "I've never been more informed in my life" since joining.
- Patrick Giblin
Seeing the longtail of Twitter takes a somewhat more mature mindset. That's why some mature teens can 'get' Twitter and why some childish adults don't (and content with Facebook).
- CannonGod
I think the topic teens liking or not liking twitter topic is entertaining at best. Does anyone have any decent statistics on this? Not to mention the term "teen" is pretty loose 13 and 18 are a world apart. I would think a teen using or not using would be more based on their personal interest. My 20 and 30 year old friends that aren't in the tech industry could care less about it.
- Nicholas Fidanza
Admittedly younger generations want to talk with less ppl but more frequently, and adults want to create more connections for friendship or financial gain. Kids don't need to worry about being loved, they have mum & dad at the end of the day :-P Sad single geeks however...
- CannonGod
@Angus that was a comment concern among my friends. Where twitter began to rule was among mobile updating. Although teens can use and do use Facebook Mobile, a two-way conversation can work well among a group of friends via Twitter on mobile phones much rather than Facebook status updates/conversations on Facebook, in my experience.
- Sean Quinn
I'm 16 and me and my close group of friends use twitter-its possible to have "chat room" like conversations about things (where are we gonna go after school, etc.) if we're all hooked up on it-it works great, but admittedly some kids use twitter more than others (like me)
- Oliver Reich
My 15 year old chats on Myspace with her friends. I told here to message one of her regular chat buddies as "You Troll" today and she laughed until she almost peed her pants. :)

I just see Twitter as Social SMS. Teens like texting, so really it's just an extension of that. I can therefore see it being used more as a tool rather than an actual network per-say.

While it’s possible to make Twitter “private,” the culture of Twitter is all about participation in a large public square. It's a crime to suggest that Twitter as a whole is just a single feature of FB and has been that way since the beginning. I never understood when Twittr was demo'd to me how a single feature of a bigger app (in my case, IM status/mood messages) needed to be an app on its own. However, what the early adopter mass wants, the early adopter mass gets (until the mainstream mass shows up and it's zomg culture/class war... I LOVE watching this.)

Teens spend 6 or 8 hours a day within a few hundred feet of most of the people they know. Why would they need Twitter?
- Rob Sterling
the same reason they spend the next 8 hours glued to facebook and the internet instead of going outside to chill with those friends (no offense :)
- echostreamer
Yeah, but information on Facebook is shared the same way as in school - it's hierarchical and clique-based. Kids are more like base primates than adults. Twitter is too open, when they want to control the dissemination of information among those people they know in school.
- Rob Sterling
There are a lot of 13-15 year-olds on Twitter, just look around :) The best way to find them is to find a celebrity who might garner a teen following ... That said, Twitter is (for now) nowhere near as popular with teens as MySpace and Facebook, for sure.

Also, most kids can't afford smartphones, and using Twitter exclusively by text message is mostly a one-way affair. It's pretty lame. I bet your 15 y.o. son loves to text and spends hours on Facebook.

We can't say that Google Wave is the next Twitter, it's more instant messaging than anything (and I'd say FriendFeed relates more to it than Twitter does).

Today, Google engineers announced a technology called PubSubHubbub that makes RSS/Atom more real-time, and they deployed the technology on FeedBurner. FriendFeed also added support for the technology, so if you have a FeedBurner feed, your updates should show up in FriendFeed within seconds rather than minutes after the feed updates.
To enable it for your FeedBurner feed: go to Feedburner, click on the "Publicize" tab, and then click on "PingShot" and enable the PingShot service. That will enable PubSubHubbub and send your feed to a number of ping services.

Peter: most blogging platforms ping Feedburner when you post a new entry, Feedburner pulls down the feed, Feedburner then pings the hub, then the hub notifies FriendFeed :)
- Benjamin Golub
Thanks Benjamin. Alas, my feeds are not that sophisticated.
- Peter
We're still working out kinks so if you have any issues please send me a message!
- Brett Slatkin
You lost me at "Today" I shall now just smile and nod politely
- Steve C
If I understand correctly this essentially turns any site with a feedburner feed into a real time publisher? But to read it in real time you need what?
- BryanSchuetz
Since this is a Google thingie, does it work on Google Reader already?
- Tarmo Aidantausta
FriendFeed can receive the pings *RIGHT NOW*
- Brett Slatkin
guys, how long are we really talking before it should appear here? Seconds or minutes?
- Zee.
The Reader integration is a prototype; more to come soon!
- Brett Slatkin
no way, so Google Reader could technically go real time??
- Zee.
is that SUP's role take up by those rss accelerator? or SUP is losing a chance to propagate in this field?
- huixing
Huixing: we plan to support all widely adopted real-time standards to make FriendFeed better. We are not tied to SUP only.
- Bret Taylor
from iPhone
Brett, why didn't you use the weblogs.com ping protocol? Your comment there about RSS, right up front, really captures the whole philosophy -- right? Let's just reinvent stuff that already works, so... Why? To break everything that already works? It won't happen that way. It'll only make your adoption curve steeper.
- Dave Winer
Is this working for anyone else? Anyone getting near real time publishing to Friendfeed with feedburner?
- Zee.
from iPhone
Would you ping me (dave dot winer at gmail dot com) when I can use RSS with this system. I'll be happy to evaluate it and provide feedback if necessary, and endorse it if it works. Thanks in advance.
- Dave Winer
Alright we've fixed in the spec Dave. Sorry for the mistake. Followed up.
- Brett Slatkin
I had enabled from way before, let's see if the post I'm about to publish works. I'll DM you Zee if it does!
- Jorge Escobar
can someone please let me know if they've managed to get this working?
- Zee.
There's also a WP plugin I wrote that does the same thing. This might be a good option for anyone who's not using feedburner. http://wordpress.org/extend...
- Josh Fraser
Zee, I set this up for my Empoprise-BI blog, wrote a blog post (using Blogger), and six minutes after posting I haven't seen anything in Google Reader or FriendFeed yet. So if you're not getting advertised response, you're not the only one. I'll test again at a later time.
- John E. Bredehoft
cool...just want to be sure it isn't me alone
- Zee.
Update - seven minutes after posting, the post showed up on FriendFeed (both in my feed, and in a group that receives the blog feed). Nothing in Google Reader yet.
- John E. Bredehoft
John: The Reader integration we demo'ed was a prototype; more to come in the future!
- Brett Slatkin
yeah, it seems 7 minutes is about how long its taking me for too (to arrive in friendfeed)
- Zee.
Could you DM me the feed URL? I'll look into the details and figure out the issue. Like I said before, we're still working out a few kinks (the FeedBurner integration is initial support right now). So thanks in advance for your help in making it super fast!
- Brett Slatkin
If you're looking for another implementation of PubSubHubbub, I'd suggest you give a look to our http://superfeedr.com ;) Thanks for your time and feedback!
- Julien
Heh, what's the idea behind the crazy name? ;)
- Tyson Key
does self hosted wordpress natively ping feedburner?
- Tyler Gillies
Nice to see XMPP more and more used on the web! It's a nice environment, also for cloud computing!
- Egon Willighagen
Nice tech, strange name though. Wonder if Google has a projectname generator, feeds it some foundation words, and then watches it spew out 1,835391 suggestions in 20-sized chunks? Too bad they didn't pick up PubSubBuzz instead, rhymes better. Also, what was EVER WRONG with PubSubHubris? (fresh and full of promise).
- ianf ⌘
This tech has been around for ages. It's getting much needed promotion right now, but it's not new. The name comes from XMPP's pubsub mechanism, with hubbub on the end. The option for PingShot has also been in Feedburner for months.
- Marlin Forbes
I think that unless you have installed the pubsubhubbub plugin for wordpress, that feedburner still polls your content. It pushes your content out to other interested parties using the new mechanism, but it will still poll your feed. Correct?
- Marlin Forbes
[SteroidFeed]: Here is my new way of watching feeds on FriendFeed. I call it SteroidFeed but it is also a "Multi-Talk" style interface ... the file sits locally and allows me to view multiple topics. I've attached a copy of the simple html. Feel free to modify the html but please leave attribution and share your changes. Leave a URL if on Internet.
Of course, the version I uploaded does not include my own entries but instead has the iPhone entry as an example. My local copy uses "from:lph" so I can see my entries and add comments quickly. (e.g., this comment is added through steroidfeed.html and not through the site.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
I've changed this file a bit so that a fourth column is available, and this holds a rowspan of my own entries. This makes tracking easier.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
I should state that the fourth column is an embed so that I can add comments, photos, files, etc. - That code is similar to the one on my personal blog: http://www.layneheiny.com
- LPH™ and his dog P™
Trying this on a 1024 x 768 resolution, 12-inch notebook - and it is fine with all four columns.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
OK - so are you asking - can I span this across multiple monitors? -- because Elvis used to watch multiple t.v.s at the same time.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
Svartling - yes - your setup is nice. I've gone back and forth between 3 and 4 columns. My desktop setup can handle 4 but the notebook (1024x768) can only handle 3. Therefore, http://www.steroidfeed.com is only sitting at 3 right now. I'm also missing the instructions on how to make changes for anyone not familiar with FF.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
Yes I was thinking of make 3 columns but I decided to make it 4 because my web stats shows that most visitors have a resolution at 1024x768 or higher. Maybe I will change to 3 columns. Hmm..
- Svartling
Really appreciated man, one of the best things for my following attitude
- Amiroo ™
or maybe he's got a double life, daytime geek nighttime the big oscar winner LOL. That would be interesting if we have Apple WWDC and Oscar at the same time.
- Amiroo ™
I get this all the time! He's my stunt double!
- Robert Scoble
We should chart the number of times this old chestnut appears. Or something. Amusing thing is it always seems to be exactly the same pics used for the example, lol
- Slippy "Threadsbane" Lane
I always thought that Seymour Hoffman was Scoble's alter ego. I bet they have never been photographed together. Coincidence? I don't think so!
- Keith Beucler
Pretty close. :) Seymour Hoffman maybe underrated but he's a superb actor.
- jan geronimo
not that you don't get star treatment already ;) but you could walk into anywhere channeling PSH - best tables and autographs baby!
- BEX
Huh? I thought "Robert Scoble" was just PSH's on-line alter-ego...
- Adrian
I have thought that for a long time. Nice.
- Ben Hanten
It's Philip Seymour Hoffman's biggest role to date!
- Joshua M
Ok, to disprove the conspiracy... I propose that this *Robert Scoble* shave his head and appear in public. Although, I suppose PSH could just wear a wig.
- Adrian
Hehe... I've mentioned that to my wife several times. If they ever make a movie about Scoble, Phillip Seymour Hoffman it is (or vice versa).
- LionelatDell
Congrats on the Oscar Scoble your work in the last M.I film was unbelievable how do you blog and act at the same time your freaking amazing.
- Luke Jeffrey Smith
OMG, congrats to Robert Scoble, you have won the Media Master Award for being a FriendFeed cheerleader. LOL.
- Zachary TG
the report goes on to note that Apple will be one of the companies who will implement Foxlink's mobile projector in an upcoming model of the iPhone. While the report suggests that Apple will include such a feature by the end of 2009, Apple seems pretty intent on maintaining its strategy of upgrading the iPhone once a year, during the Summer months. That does, however, open up the possibility of the iPod Touch receiving such functionality before the iPhone, but Apple seems intent on putting its latest and greatest features into the iPhone first, and then migrating them over to the Touch.
- Joshua Schnell
from Bookmarklet
That seems way out of line with how Apple does things. I'd be surprised to see it happen and less than enthusiastic about using it or ever seeing it used in bars and restaurants.
- Christopher Harley
No way is this true. ah, fantasies... good once in a while but I wish people tag them so, when writing them.

Jolicloud is a netbook OS built around social networking, but now that everyone will hang out waiting for Google's effort his system is going to find it tough to get traction. At least that's my theory. http://www.jolicloud.com/ is the web page for Jolicloud.
- Robert Scoble
Wonder if anyone disagrees with my thesis?
- Robert Scoble
i just told that to my roommate. you are right.
- mehdi
Pretty logical conclusion I'd say. But who knows, crazier stuff has happened.
- Geoff Schultz
Hate to see that happen, what if he's is the next "one"?
- James Hunter
my only problem signed up months ago still waiting for an invite I have 2 netbooks and have been looking for a good os for them
- zac_in_ak
Better question -- knowing that Google OS was an inevitability, was the hope for any real traction for Jolicloud realistic?
- Tony Hung
Nope :) It's now going to inflate the valuation of his company as investors recognise they can jump into this early new market. You only lose when no one is talking about you.
- Elias Bizannes
...unless m$ buys out the company to compete in the netbook OS wars.
- imabonehead
Jolicloud is in a good place - acquisition by another big player?
- Matt Mastracci
If it is a truly amazing product it will find a way to succeed.
- Geoff Schultz
I'll have to give it a try. I don't like Ubuntu Remix
- Peter Warnock
His favorite letters might be I,P and O
- James Hunter
interesting with this Google OS thing. so many alternatives. I so want to write my own OS/distro like this Jolicould when I have extra free time.
- Zac Bowling
OUCH - that will surely cause pain for Jolicloud ... 1st to market is soooo key for success
- Susan Beebe
I can see smaller/lighter netbooks, specifically smartbooks running snapdragon & linux, running Google OS
- Rodfather
Susan, counterpoint: look at Classmates vs. Friendster vs. Facebook
- Matt Mastracci
i am not into the netbook market, just thinking to build my own little netbook from old laptop when its getting older.
- polou/indigo_bow
I do not think we are ready for a Cloud OS. I think a cloud workspace maybe but not a full os.
- Dave Mora
Susan: I thought Google OS won't come until second half of 2010. Jolicloud will get here earlier. By the way, being first isn't always a good path to success. Being a fast follower often means more success.
- Robert Scoble
google OS netbooks will come out in 2010 os will be available sooner
- zac_in_ak
I started to say I've already gotten my netbook, but then I remembered I'm waiting for the one from Asus.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Everyone is honestly a little netbook crazy. under powered pieces of crap that annoy the hell out of me. I agree with Apple with not targeting this area.
- Zac Bowling
There will be at least comparison with jolicloud. And this is a good point for him.
- Frédéric Sidler
from iPhone
Sory I do not know both products but, both Google OS and Jolicloud are open source? Whoever convince more HW manufacturers to bundle on their netbook than wins (probably Google). Than there is a clear loser here Microsoft. If alternative devices get traction over PC/notebook, MS monopoly on desktop may erode. Well this may well take 10-15 years :)
- Kaan Bingol
Well once us normal people can get our hands on it... he has at least a year or so until we can touch Google's OS.
- Dean Clark
Some of the apps are social in nature, but enough aren't (WINE, VLC, DropBox, etc.) that it doesn't feel like the social aspect is all Tariq is going for. I think he's (wisely) targeted the most popular web apps that just happen to be somewhat social in nature. Who knows? There may be room for both. Just because it comes from Google doesn't mean it'll be a hit (*cough*ORKUT*cough*)
- Brian Baggett
SaaS_OS comes in and derails M$ desktop consumer marketshare.
- C. Jason Mancebo
Tariq Krim will probably need to refocus his efforts and figure out the niche for Jolicloud.
- Loren
Maybe Google should buy Jolicloud and rename it as Chrome OS? They did it with doubleclick and others in the past, why not now?
- Hans Kainz
That's assuming Google Chrome OS will take off ... remember Google Notebook, Google Answers etc ;)
- Nicholas James
I seriously doubt the world is going to breathlessly wait around well into 2010 for Chrome. Sounds like another Linux Dist. put out by a co. that keeps products in beta for years.
- JimmyJet
JimmyNet: Its another Linux dist by the biggest online company out there...using Linux. That's something Ubuntu and Canonical cannot achieve. It also depends on how Chrome OS develops. Right now, it seems to be basically a way to get into the browser and use web-apps, nothing more. That's nothing like current Linux big boys Ubuntu/Fedora who are more like Windows/Mac OS in their structure. Google Chrome OS lives and dies by web-apps, so it seems and that is a double-edged sword.
- Manuel Mas
Was intrigued by Jolicloud and wanted to find out more.....but as soon as I heard about Google Chrome OS, I have to admit I totally forgot about Jolicloud!
- Bonnie Foster
Not sure. If Tariq delivers on the Jolicloud promise, he only needs a couple of telco/operator deals to get bootstrap. Operators are probably happy to have something that can compete with Windows 7 because it will help them negotiate lower license prices. Plus tariq has room to innovate by through better integration with all the best of breed services users/operators really care about. They just raise 4.2M so I would not call them dead until they had the chance to fully launch Jolicloud.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
My company was in the same kind of trouble when Microsoft decided to deliver a product which was doing the same as ours. Microsoft did not sell a single license of it in France, but a lot of our historical partners shifted their attention to Microsoft product. It took them 2 years to discover the product was so flawed that even Microsoft shops would not buy it ... It has hurt us but we survived the storm and are still a proud Microsoft partner :)
- Christophe Pierret
The bottom of FriendFeed's page should have a "Best of day" link. That way people who scroll to the bottom of the page would be offered something new to do to stay on FriendFeed instead of leaving.
Why not just click on Older Items, and then you can see he same items you just saw (i.e. whatever items now have numbers 31-60) in a different order?
- j1m
j1m, at least the way I do FF is scan the page to see what's going on now, then scan the best of day if I want to read more. I had never clicked on Older Items until you mentioned it, and have to say I probably won't again. But if you had a "best of day" link at the bottom of the page, I would stay on FF longer.
- Matt Cutts
high engagement, poor recirculation. i imagine (hope) this will change in the future.
- sean percival
how about a shortcut key that automatically brought you to the top of the page... thats where the freshest content would be plus scrolling can be terrible if youve opened a thread with lots of comments
- Frankie Warren
pageless scrolling is nice too :) let them go all the way down this river.
- sean percival
they should at least integrate a button to jump to the top of the page?
- Hans Kainz
Fwd: We just launched Appsfire (for mac only for now) A new iPhone service that allow you to share easily iPhone apps with your friends. Try it on http://appsfire.com (1000 first arrived first served) (via http://friendfeed.com/applero...)
Couple questions: why does it need to install as a service rather than just a standard app? Why does Firefox not like your site's security certificate?
- Patrick Jordan
Exactly Patrick. Kind of scared me away as well. That, along with the lack of any clear explanation about what I was getting into, sealed the 'no deal' for me.
- Dan Dashnaw
Downloaded it too although I'm not sure of it's utility, meaning I'm not sure exactly what it does. Is it actual app sharing or is it designed to simply tell people what apps you're using? Some clarity would be helpful as would some comfort about security and privacy. thanks.
- David Hall
from BuddyFeed
Has anyone tried this out since? I've been holding off until some of the questions above are addressed.
- David Hall
from BuddyFeed
I installed, did one test list to share here, saw it was a service and saw Firefox certificate error, asked questions here, saw no answers, uninstalled for now.
- Patrick Jordan
Hi All, it is not possible to just list your purchased iPhone app without a third party program that does that. We ll soon have a native iPhone app in complement but still you ll need to install the app on your computer (it is a one time set up).
- Ouriel Ohayon
We had an issue with the security certificate (that protects your data). Now solved. Let us know if any issue (contact at appsfire dot com)
- Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Utility. The main purpose, today of appsfire, is to help users (and pubilshers) create and share simply their favorite iPhone apps. instead of manually doing the job, specially when you are asked for a recommendation, you can just point them to a link and also help your friends install faster the apps (they just have to click). Soon we ll allow users to make money out of this by sharing revenues with any app purchased via Appsfire
- Ouriel Ohayon
@ Ouriel - why does the app need to be installed as / run as a service? If I want it to re-check my set of apps, I'll ask it to. I don't feel a need for it to continually be running, and do not like the concept of that either.
- Patrick Jordan
@patrick you are in control. if you don't want an automatic update, just uncheck the box in the preference pane and when you want go there and rescan. We really focused on giving 100% to users
- Ouriel Ohayon
@ Ouriel - I noticed the checkbox to turn off automatic updating. That's fine, but that wasn't my question. My question was why does it need to run as a service, especially if I do not want auto-updates? Why does it not just install as a normal app, that I launch when I want to look at sharing iPhone apps?
- Patrick Jordan
Hi Patrick . really sorry for the long delay. i answered you privately by email
- Ouriel Ohayon
"It has changed the way I consume and share content, and the coolest thing is that Feedly supports the SUP methodology that FriendFeed uses, so that things that you react to on Feedly are immediately posted to your FriendFeed page. You can even “like” and comment right from the application and see the conversations around the posts back on FriendFeed."
- Jorge Escobar
from Bookmarklet
I first became addicted to feedly then I discovered friendfeed. It's a great together, love the way when surfing the web you can see whether a certain page has been discussed or is being discussed on ff.
- Jacob
Jorge, I think Feedly is fantastic. I would absolutely use it if it ran native in Safari. Also, as I like to be "first" to stories, I still tend to use the Google Reader interface and power through. So I am a Feedly fan even if I don't use it every day.
- Louis Gray
I agree, too :) I have not used GReader since I discovered feedly.
- Roberto Bonini
Feedly also helps me to know what to share, as it tells me if a blog post or news article is already being shared by others. At that point I can just 'like' it, instead of cluttering FriendFeed with more repetitive stuff. Love it!
- Jorge Escobar
Thanks Jorge. We are indeed very big Friendfeed fans. More integration points soon.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Feedly was the magic bullet that convinced me to switch back from Safari. I really miss Safari's speed, but I can't live without Feedly.
- cecily
Come to think of it, Firefox should invest in them (at least) ;)
- Jorge Escobar
For those of you interested in Chrome and Safari support, please send me an email to edwink@devhd.com and I will see if we can give you early access to something we are working on (Louis you are already on the list)
- Edwin Khodabakchian
I like Feedly. It doesn't make me feel bad for not powering through all my GReader posts. It feels more natural somehow: like reading the paper instead of, er, a bunch of RSS feeds.
- David Young
If one is using FriendFeed as one's primary Feed aggregator/filter/reader, is Feedly still necessary?
- Alex Schleber
@Alex I think there is a different need for both. Consuming RSS feeds via a reader is something that some people prefer. I certainly tried to use FF as my reader, but there was something missing.
- Jorge Escobar
I use an love Feedly, I have tried to use FF as my feed aggregator but I agree with Jorge Escobar, there is something missing, maybe its the ability to save for later or the layout, but what ever it is I keep going back to Feedly.
- Kim Landwehr
When you share to FF using feedly, is there a way to make it show the picture?
- Alix Whitmire
any images on the post you share will be post in FriendFeed automatically
- Jorge Escobar
from IM
Hmm, I tried that and it didn't work.
- Alix Whitmire
Hi Alix, if you post the description of the problem you are seeing at getsatisfaction/feedly, we can try to help you troubleshoot it.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
works for me... maybe the image on the post you are sharing is not standard
- Jorge Escobar
from IM
Sorry...did not see the previous post about what was not working... Yes. to share a picture, before you click on the friendfeed share, ALT+click on the image you want to share. This will create an annotation using that image. Then click on the friendfeed share icon. Similarly, you can highlight snippets of texts and click on annotation in the popup menu. (We are working on making this a little more intuitive)
- Edwin Khodabakchian
I used Google Reader but never cared for it. Then I found Feedly and I love it! Thanks Edwin, I did not know myself how to share a picture in a story.
- Bonnie Foster
I love feedly, and the only reason I still open Firefox is to use it. I can't wait until they have an addon for Chrome!
- Michael Fidler
When I used to use Firefox, Feedly was essential. Now I use Safari so no more Feedly for me.
- Akiva Moskovitz
After installed, my GMarks stop working. I had to uninstall it. :(
- Burçak Çubukçu
Burçak Çubukçu: you are correct. There are incompatibilities with gmarks.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
That's some good news Edwin. now I feel more compelled to use FF (Firefox not friendfeed) quote: "Then click on the friendfeed share icon. Similarly, you can highlight snippets of texts and click on annotation in the popup menu. (We are working on making this a little more intuitive)"
- Bicentennial (Franc)
at this point yes, Rasheen. Chrome version is under development, though.
- Jorge Escobar
from IM
Somehow feedly isn't reading my Google Alerts feeds correctly from the latest tabs. How can I fix that?
- Amani
LOVING feedly. But how does it decide which FF conversation to link to when it says "join the conversation." Also, is there a way to share on FF from the feedly mini thing?
- Ted Roden
Jorge, thanks for highlighting this wonderful Feedly feature. I tried using it and gave it up, and now realize that I didn't really use the Friendfeed integration at all. Sigh! (Back to installing Feedly)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Edwin, any reason why my saved items page never loads anymore? Its been like this for about 3 days now.
- Amani
